BOBBY JAMES PARKER
Bobby James Parker, 65, of Durham, died Sunday (08-31-2008) at Duke University Medical Center.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (09-04-2008) at Bynum United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dr. William H. Garris and Rev. Jeff Babajtis, officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Friends visited with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday (09-03-2008) at Griffin funeral service in Pittsboro, and other times, at the residence of Clair Wilson on Parker-Herndon Road in Pittsboro.
Mr. Parker was a native of Chatham County, a veteran having served in Korea, and retired from C I I T, formerly the Hamner Institute, where he was a machinist lab technician and fabricator.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Swain Parker; son, Owen Parker of Fort Mill, SC; daughters, Claire Wilson, Susie Clark, both of Pittsboro; brother, Donald Parker of Pittsboro; and three grandchildren.

WILLIAM PAUL JOHNSON
William Paul Johnson, 81, of Siler City, died Friday, (08-29-2008) at his home.
The graveside services were held on Sunday (08-31-2008) at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson was a native of Alamance County and was retired from Collins & Aikman after 38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Jones Johnson of the home; one son, Billy Johnson of Bonlee; daughters, Jean Loflin of Asheboro, Paulette McLaurin of Pittsboro; brother, Marion Johnson of Siler City; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MARY JANE BANKS
Mary Jane Banks, 62, of Siler City died Sunday (08-24-2008) at her residence.
Services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday (08-28-2008) at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She was a native of Chatham County and a member of Evans Chapel AME Zion Church.
Survivors are son, Terry D. Banks of the home; sisters, Victoria Ford of Liberty, Gertrude Caviness of Julian, Marie Alston and Annie Lane both of Greensboro, Regina Buchannon of Durham; brothers, Roscoe Johnson of Liberty, Leroy Johnson and Paul Johnson of Staley; two grandchildren.
WILLIAN WRENN “RICKY” HICKS
William Wrenn “Ricky” Hicks of Thomaston, GA died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held Friday, August 29, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Southview Cemetery, with Rev. Warren Killingsworth and Rev. Teddy Hardeman officiating.
Mr. Hicks was born November 14, 1953 in Siler City to the late James Otis and Margaret Louise McBride Hicks. He worked for the Upson County Road Department for several years. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Hicks.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Johnson Hicks; daughter, Kayla Stephanie Hicks; son, Travis Wrenn Hicks, all of Thomaston, GA; brothers, Ronnie Hicks and wife Jean, Lynn Hicks and wife Rhonda, Mike Hicks and wife Elizabeth, Jimmy Joe Hicks, all of Siler City; sisters, Sybil Warren and husband Jimmy, Debbie Marley and husband, David, Sandy Maness and husband Mike, all of Siler City, and Becky Vess and husband, Harold of Rock Hill, SC.
CHRISTINE “COWGIRL” DIGGS GILLILAND
Christine "Cowgirl" Diggs Gilliland, 65, Siler City died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Wilmington. Mrs. Gilliland was born April 27, 1943 the daughter of J. D. and Belzora (Greene) Diggs.
Mrs Gilliland was a native of Mecklenburg County and a retired truck driver with Central Feed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (Wormie) L. Gilliland.
She is survived by two sons, Dennis Ryals and wife, Sandra of Laurinburg, Michael Binkley of Lexington; daughter, Laura Ryals Loflin of Wilmington; her mother, Belzora Greene Diggs of Putnam; two brothers, Thomas L. Diggs of Chapel Hill, Earl Diggs of Carlsbad, NM; sisters, Rebecca Walters, Sandra Powers and Martha Jo Ivey all of Putnam and seven grandchildren.
The family received friends Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City and at other times at the home on 506 West Fourth Street. The graveside service was held Sunday, August 31, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Scott Faw officiating.

SAMUEL TEDDER MORGAN III
Mr. Samuel Tedder Morgan III, 70, of Liberty, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2008.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 30 at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel of Liberty.
Mr. Morgan was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. He worked for the Highway Department of Illinois for 2 years and retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 43 years.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his daughter, Elisa M. Barnette of Burgaw; sons, Sam Morgan and wife Debra of Goldvein, VA, Cam Morgan and wife Angie of New Bern; sister, Adele Whitaker and husband Worth of Waxhaw; aunt, Colleen Furr of Charlotte; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
JIM DAWSON
Jim Dawson, 60, of Emerald Isle, died Wednesday (08-20-2008) at Carteret General Hospital.
Memorial services were held at 1 p.m Friday (08-22-2008) at Emerald Isle Baptist Church with Rev. Freddie Braswell officiating.
Mr. Dawson was a native of Bynum and he served in the US Army during the Vietnam War for which he received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. He was owner of Jim’s Handyman Service.
Survivors include his son, Donald Jason Dawson of Burlington; and brother, Rodney Dawson of Emerald Isle.

DALLAS LYNWOOD GOODSON
Dallas Goodson, 52, of Franklinville died Tuesday (08-19-2008) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (08-24-2008) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Goodson was a native of Forsyth County, and a volunteer firefighter.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Fox Goodson of the home; daughters, Tammy, Tasha; son, Michael; parents, Johnny and Letha Atkins Goodson; sister, Debbie Jablonski; and four grandchildren.
ROBERT HIGGINS GURNEY
Robert Higgins Gurney, 89, of Pittsboro died Tuesday (08-19-2008) at UNC Hospital.
No service has been scheduled at this time.
Mr. Gurney was a native of Hartford, CT, a graduate of Colgate University and worked for Harper & Row Publishers in New York and Chicago for 38 years.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Fowler Gurney; sons, Craig Gurney of Enka, Lloyd Gurney of Hailey, Idaho; and one grandson.
NATHAN ISAAC TEAGUE
Nathan Isaac Teague, 4 month old son of Maurice and Christina Teague of Bennett died Thursday (08-21-2008) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (08-25-2008) at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Craven and Rev. Darrin Ballard officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Surviving in addition to parents are a sister, Michelle Teague of the home; grandparents, Julian and Jane Teague of Bennett, Michael and Lois Brady of Bennett; great-grandparents, Mrs. Myrtle C. Teague of Bennett and Mrs. Georgia Dunn of Troy.
LACY A. WELCH
Lacy A. Welch, 83, of Bear Creek died Tuesday (08-19-2008) at his residence.
Graveside service and burial was held at 3 p.m. Friday (08-22-2008) at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.
Mr. Welch was a native of Moore County, a retired employee of Klopman Mills-Ramseur Plant, and a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Welch of the home; and one grandson.
CLARENCE WILLIE MASON
Clarence Willie Mason, 83, of Newark, New Jersey, died Friday (08-01-2008).
Funeral services were held at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Saturday (08-16-2008), with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Mason was a native of Siler City and a Veteran of the U. S. Navy. He was employed with Shay Chevrolet in New Jersey for 35 years before his retirement. He was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Siler; one sister, Omega Paige Foxx; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren.
BEULAH HAYES JONES
Mrs. Beulah Hayes Jones, 81, of Bennett, died Friday, (8-22-2008) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (8-24-2008) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rowland and Rev. Don Daniels officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker and member of Mt. Zion UMC.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Sue Maness, Dorothy M. Phillips, both of Bennett; brother Walter Hayes of Seagrove; sisters Daphne Martindale, Mittie Nall of Robbins, Lillie Kennedy of Aberdeen; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
G. SAMUEL “SAM” PARKS
G. Samuel “Sam” Parks, 80, of Ramseur, died Friday (8-22-2008) at the Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday (8-25-2008), at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bruce Dickerson and Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial followed at Parks Cross Roads Christian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Parks was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramtex Inc. and a member of the Fayetteville Street Baptist Church.
Survivors are son Michael S. Parks, of the home and sister Mary Allen of Staley.
