JOHN BASCOMB ANDREWS, III
John Bascomb Andrews, III, 61, of Bear Creek died Thursday (09-18-2008) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held Sunday (09-21-2008) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, Siler City, with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
He was a native of Alamance County and worked as a cattle farmer and teacher at CCCC Chatham County campus. He attended Meroney United Methodist church.
He is survived by four daughters; Cedar Starr Buffington of Portland, Or, Jessica Wrenn Andrews, Jenna Alyss Andrews, Kendall Mae Andrews, all of Bear Creek; grandson, Miles Buffington.

BOBBY ROSCOE WILSON
Bobby Roscoe (Bob) Wilson of Damascus, VA, died Saturday (09-20-2008).
At his request, there will be no memorial service.
Born in Chatham County, Mr. Wilson worked as a field geologist exploring gas and oil fields throughout the West, later starting his own firm. He returned East and joined the Virginia Dept. of Mines, Minerals, and Energy’s Division of Gas and Oil, where he worked until his death.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Damascus, VA; daughter, Joanna; son, Adam; grandson, Liam of Atlanta, GA; sister, Joan Frazier of Chatham County.
Donations may be made to the Sierra Club, Heifer International, or to their local blood bank.
K. C. WHITE
Mr. K. C. White, 85, of Chatham County went to be with his Lord on September 22, 2008. He was born September 5, 1923, near Bonlee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Atlas and Grace Murray White; his wife, Luta Self White; son, Kenneth Charles; brother, Layton; and sister, Lidia “Pie” Malone.
K. C. is survived by his sister, Lucille Parnell; half-brother, Nathaniel Murray, Jr. of Siler City; half-sister, Arburtis Page of Robbins; son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Carol White; grandson, Kevin White and wife, Danielle; great-grandsons, Cameron, Morgon and Payton.
K.C. was a lifelong farmer, furniture worker and NC Department of Transportation employee. He was retired from Boling Chair Company. He was a faithful member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. K. C. was a founding member of the Silk Hope Ruritans and Fire Department. He loved to sing the old country music of Earnest Tubb, Will Rodgers and Gene Autry. K.C.’s nurses and caregivers at Universal Healthcare loved to hear him sing his favorite songs and hymns.
He will be missed by his friends and family.
A funeral service and interment is planned for Thursday, September 25, 2008, 3:00 PM, at Sapling Ridge UMC in Silk Hope. Family will receive friends after services in the fellowship hall of Sapling Ridge UMC.

EDWARD ELLIS
Edward Ellis, 85, of Goldston died Thursday (09-18-2008) at his residence.
Mr. Ellis was born June 2, 1923, the son of Hubert and Daisy Leona (Jones) Ellis.
Mr. Ellis was a native of Chatham County, a member of Goldston United Methodist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a retired carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee (Klass) Ellis; two daughters, Joyce E. Clark and husband, Melvin of Siler City, and Verna Ellis of Goldston; son, James Ellis; sister, Mozelle Bright and husband, Curtis of Bonlee; grandchildren, Alan Clark and wife, Phyllis, Larry Clark, Jason Clark, Kevin Ellis, Krista Ritter and husband, John, andMichael Pister; great-grandchildren, Amy Clark, J.C. Ritter, and Cody Ritter; step-great-grandchildren, Casey Duckworth.
The family received friends Saturday (09-20-2008) from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held at 3:00 PM Sunday (09-21-2008) at Goldston United Methodist Church, Goldston, NC with Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
FRANCES DORSETT HUNTER
Frances Dorsett Hunter, 98, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City, died Wednesday (09-10-2008) at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation. Mrs. Hunter was born October 1, 1909 the daughter of Vet M. and Mary Dorsett, Sr.
Mrs. Hunter was a native of Chatham County and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Greensboro College where she majored in music.
Frances spent most of the last few years of her life as a resident of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation of Siler City.
She is survived by two sons, James D. Pete Hunter of Siler City and Bill Hunter of Chapel Hill; three grandchildren, Mike Hunter, Ann Rubio and Brian Hunter; four great-grandchildren, Kyle Hunter, Jared Hunter, Stuart Buck and Rachel Buck; special friend, Shirley White.
Funeral services were held Friday (09-12-2008) at 11:00 a.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC.

DEANNA FAYE TYNER CLAYTON
Deanna Faye Tyner Clayton, 66, passed away on Sunday evening, September 21, 2008, at Wake Medical Center in Cary. Born on July 1, 1942 in Siler City, NC; she was the daughter of Ruby Pickard Tyner and James Coryl Tyner.
Deanna was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and grandmother. Over the years she enjoyed bowling, square dancing and bridge club. She attended Mitchell’s Hairstyling Academy and ran her business in her home for some years. Cooking was always her passion. Her love of cooking for her family was exceeded only by her family’s love of her cooking. Their favorites ranged from her Shrimp Egg Foo Yong to her Blue Ribbon Award Winning Brown Stone Cake at the 1981 NC State Fair.
Including her mother, Deanna is survived by her husband of 48 years, Michael P. Clayton, Jr.; by her children: Lisa Gayle Britton and husband Jeff; Michael Scott Clayton and wife Mendy; and Ashley Jackson and her husband David, all of Fuquay-Varina; by her grandchildren: Chris Cotton and wife Molly, of Apex, Toni Currin and husband Dustin, and Sami Britton, all of Fuquay-Varina; great-grandchildren: Austin Currin and Mac Cotton;
sisters: Becky Parrish Pharr and husband Bo, of Siler City and Cathy Smithson and husband Gary, of Murfreesboro, TN; by her brother-in-law: Tony Clayton and wife Frances Ann, of Greensboro; and by her niece and nephews and their families.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 2 PM in the Mitchell Funeral Home Chapel, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family received friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM at Mitchell Funeral Home.

BERNICE M. UPCHURCH
Bernice M. Upchurch, 82, of Shelbyville died Tuesday (09-09-2008) at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma.
Funeral services were held Friday (09-12-2008) at Hillcrest Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby McGee officiating. Burial followed at Willow Mount Cemetery.
Mrs. Upchurch was a native of Robbins and was retired from Uniroyal. She was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters, Gail Goodwin of Tullahoma, Chris “Missy” Forham of Wartrace, Terry Sue White of Pittsboro; two sons, David Upchurch of Bell Buckle, John D. Upchurch of Shelbyville; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
ANNIE MARIE DEGRAFFENRIEDT CRUTCHFIELD
Annie Marie Degraffenriedt Crutchfield, 97, a native of Chatham County, died Friday (09-12-2008).
Funeral services were held Wednesday (09-17-2008) at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church at 2 pm.
Mrs. Crutchfield was a member of Evans Chapel AME Zion Church.
She is survived by two sons, Perry T. Crutchfield of Raleigh, and Waddell H. Crutchfield of Greensboro; two daughters, Lorraine C. Ratliff of Graham, Nannie C. Emerson of Siler City.
MINNIE BELLE HENDERSON SIRLS
Minnie Belle Henderson Sirls, 78, of Pittsboro died Thursday (09-11-2008) at The Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held Sunday (09-14-2008) at 3 pm at Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ray Gooch. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Sirls was a graduate of Hardbarger Business College and worked for both the Chatham County Register of Deeds and Edward S. Holmes, Attorney. She was retired from NC High School Athletic Association where she worked for more than 20 years. Mrs. Sirls was a member of Brown’s Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Lyanne Spangler of Pittsboro; sons Doug Sirls and Jamie Sirls, both of Pittsboro, Randy Sirls of Hampstead; five grandchildren; brother, Walter Henderson, and sister, Lois Lane, both of Graham.

KENNETH WAYNE POE, JR.
Kenneth Wayne Poe, Jr., 28, of Siler City died Sunday (09-14-2008).
A memorial service will be held Thursday (09-18-2008) at 1 pm at the home of his mother, 304 Kirkman Ford Road, Siler City, with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.
Mr. Poe was a native of Chatham County and had worked laying cable and in construction.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Dickerson Poe; children, Taylor, Tyler and Connor Poe; mother, Denise Poe of Siler City; two sisters, Kendra P. Oldham of Bear Creek and Kim P. Smith of Jamestown; and grandmother, Jean T. Thomas of Snow Camp.

ETHEL A. ALSTON
Ethel A. Alston, 98, of Siler City died Wednesday (09-10-2008) at her residence.
Funeral services were held Sunday (09-14-2008) at 3 pm, at Evans Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth Swann officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Alston was a native of Chatham County and a retired homemaker.
She is survived by five daughters, Yvonne Johnson of the home, Dorothy Crutchfield and Barbara Green both of Siler City, Carolyn Stroud of Cameron, Helen Alston of High Point; five sons, Grady Johnson of Graham, Henry Johnson and Leon Johnson both of Siler City, Joe Daniel Johnson of Snow Camp, and Cedell Johnson of Pittsboro. There are forty grandchildren, eighty-seven great-grandchildren, sixty great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
