BESSEMER CITY — Mr. Frank Hill, 84, formerly of 103 E. Louisiana Ave., died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville. SHELBY — Mr. Travas Deshon Smith, 25, of 301 Broad Street, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He was the eldest child of Ms. Pamela Denise Smith and the late James Atkins Jr. He was a 1999 graduate of North Shelby School, formerly employed by Cleveland Vocational Industries and was a member of the Palmer Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid fan of the WWF wrestler, “The Rock,” loved by all he met and had great love and admiration for his entire family. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Pansy Lee Smith and Eli Black Sr. and paternal grandfather, James Atkins, Sr. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his mother, Pamela D. Smith and a devoted uncle, Minister Sherwood Smith of the home; a sister Phebbie Renee Smith of Shelby; a brother, Chad Smith of Bunter; his grandmother, Mrs. JoAnn Atkins of Shelby; a special niece, Rasjah Jamison of Shelby; 14 devoted aunts, four uncles, seven great-aunts, Mrs. Myrtle Ellis, Rosa Woods, Earlene Baxter, Rosa Smith, all of Shelby, Jessie Smith of Blacksburg, S.C., Mary Smith of Lincolnton and Etta Smith of Asheville; a great-uncle, Bobby Smith of Lincolnton; a foster aunt and godmother, Vivian Smith and two foster uncles and their wives, the Rev. Frankie and Wilma Smith and Jimmy and Myrtle Smith, all of Shelby; a step-brother, Joshua Atkins and a step-sister, Tiara Atkins both of Shelby; a best friend, Reginald JuWarren Reid of Lawndale; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Palmers Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. James L. Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. CHERRYVILLE — Mr. Julian Lee Morehead Sr., 87, of 144 Kester Drive, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at home. A native of Shelby, he was born Oct. 13, 1914. He was the son of the late Torrence Morehead and Viola Blanton Morehead. He retired from J.G. Dudley Plumbing Co. and served in the Navy. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and the V.F.W. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, J.L. Morehead Jr.; two brothers, James Morehead and Gorman Morehead; and a sister, Bertha Canipe. He is survived by his wife, Vernie Morrison Morehead, of the home; a daughter, Ann Morehead Hicks, of Anderson, S.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Evelyn Morehead, of Lattimore; a daughter-in-law, Janice M. Morehead; granddaughters and husbands, Angela M. and David Williams, of Morganton, Nickie M. and Paul Wright and Jennifer B. Morehead, all of Shelby; grandsons and wives, Lt. Troy C. and Janis Hicks, of Whidbey Island, Wash., Lee M. and Sheila Hicks of Greenville, S.C.; a great-granddaughter, Sarah C. Williams, of Morganton; a great-grandson, Justin A. Williams, of Morganton; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Sue and Gene Beam, New Ellenton, S.C.; and a sister-in-law, Georgia Lee Morehead, of Shelby. RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Margaret Wilson, 69, of Rutherfordton, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at her residence. She was born May 1, 1933, in Caldwell County. She attended Brittain Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond H. Wilson, and her parents, Yodel and Clara Edmonston Deal. She is survived by two daughters, Gail Webber of Summerville, S.C., and Janet Wilson, of Rutherfordton; two sons, Raymond Wilson of Lenoir, and Steven Wilson of Rutherfordton; three sisters, Betty Grant and Bobbie Rogers, both of Lenoir, and Ginger Luper of Portsmouth, Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons, Michael Campfield and wife, Vickie, of Forest City and Eddie Campfield and wife, Sissy, of Ellenboro; two daughters, Rita Campfield of Greenwood, S.C., and Janet Houser and husband, Mike, of Mooresboro; four sisters, Louise Toney of Ellenboro, Reba Ford and Libby Henson, both of Forest City, and Murial Short of Spartanburg, S.C.; her stepmother, Elsie Henderson Luckadoo of Ramseur; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
