JOHN HENRY “JAY” ALLEN
John Henry “Jay” Allen, 73, of Snow Camp, died Sunday (04-05-09).
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (04-08-09) at Cane Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating.
Mr. Allen retired from the North Carolina Forestry Service with 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Allen and Ocie Henry Allen and brothers, Thomas “Tom” Allen and Jack Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Laura Vaughn Allen of the home; daughter, Kim Wilson of Burlington; son, Todd Allen of Snow Camp; sisters, Faye Dark of Pittsboro, Mary Florence Stout of Snow Camp; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

JOAN LORRAINE O’BRIEN
Joan Lorraine O’Brien, 79, of Fearrington Village died at the home of her daughter on Monday (04-06-09).
A funeral mass will be conducted at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Thursday (04-09-09). Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. O’Brien was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William F. O’Brien.
Survivors include daughters, Cheryl O’Brien of Bridgewater, NJ, Barbara Koruda of Chapel Hill, Kathy DiPippa of Centreville, VA; sister, Dorothy Coleman of Manasquan, NJ; and ten grandchildren.
The family greeted friends at Walker Funeral Home in Chapel Hill Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.

JOE ALLEN STUTTS
Joe Allen Stutts, 76, of 897 Bonlee School Road, Bear Creek died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst.
Mr. Stutts was born March 16, 1933, the son of William T. and Cora Maness Stutts. Mr. Stutts went home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was a retired truck driver, a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and a veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Scott Stutts and one son, Larry Joe Stutts and wife, Beth of Sanford; two sisters, Bessie Nall of High Falls, Mary Coye of Albany, NY; step-son, Jeff Jackson and wife, Alice of Siler City; grandsons, Ryan and Daniel Stutts; step- grandsons, Jeffery and Steve Jackson; special friends, Bob Kidd and Ronnie Brady.
The family received friends Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 396 NC Hwy 42, Goldston with Rev. Don Daniel and Rev. Wayne Bryson officiating. Burial follow in Hope Cemetery.

JASON HUBERT CLARK
Jason Hubert Clark, 28, of Siler City died Friday, (03-27-09).
Funeral services were held Tuesday (03-30-09) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Wyatt Coley and Rev. Troy E. Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Clark was a native of Chatham County and employed with Walk Softly, LLC. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Chatham Central High School.
Survivors include his parents, Melvin and Joyce Ellis Clark of Siler City; daughter, Amy Elizabeth Clark of Goldston; brothers, Alan Clark and wife Phyllis of Bear Creek, Larry Clark of Siler City; grandmother, Mary Lee Klass Ellis of Goldston; and nephew, Casey Duckworth of Bear Creek.
HOWARD LOUIS SMITH
Mr. Howard Louis Smith, 81, of Durham, died Wednesday (03-25-09) at Durham Regional Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (03-28-09) at C.E. Willie Funeral Chapel in Pittsboro.
Survivors include sisters, Geneva Smith of Waterbury, CT, Helen Farrar of Pittsboro; and brother, Harry Lee Smith, Sr. of Pittsboro.

BOBBY HOWARD RITTER
Bobby Howard Ritter, 74, of Robbins, died Friday, (03-27-09) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (03-30-09) at Smyrna United Methodist Church with Rev. Tal Madison and Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Ritter was a native of Moore County and an Army Veteran. He was retired from Ramtex, a retired farmer, and a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine McNeill Ritter of the home; sons, Stanley Howard Ritter, Rickey Lee Ritter; brother, Eli Ritter; sister, Myrtle Ritter, all of Robbins; and two grandchildren.

IDA MOZELL DeGRAFFENREIDT
Ida Mozell DeGraffenreidt, 85, of Pittsboro died Thursday (03-19-09) at Duke Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Wednesday (03-25-09) at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsboro with Rev. Kenneth M. Brooks officiating. Burial followed in Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery.
Ms. DeGraffenreidt was a native of Chatham County, and was educated in Chatham County Schools. She was a member of Mitchell Chapel Church where she was a member of the usher board, and the ECH Club.
No immediate survivors.
MARGARET PEOPLES JOHNSON
Margaret Peoples Johnson, 89, of Carthage, formerly of Sanford, died Sunday, (03-29-09) at Pine Lake Health and Rehab Center, Carthage.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (04-02-09) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, with Josh Conrad officiating. Burial will follow in Sapling Ridge United Methodist Cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of James Henry and Hannah Paschal Peoples, was a native of Guilford County and a homemaker. She was a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church and the Alpha and Sunshine Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Johnson; daughter, Brenda Joyce Andrews; two sons, Marion Frank and Steve Johnson.
He is survived by one son, Richard G. Johnson of Sanford; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

CAROL LOUISE MOORE
Carol Louise Moore, 42, of Siler City died Monday (03-30-09) at Chatham Hospital.
A memorial service will be held Sunday (04-05-09) at 3 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Sandifer officiating.
Ms. Moore was a native of Randolph County, a former fast food restaurant manager, and attended Oakley Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Moore of Siler City; son, Christopher Barnwell of Oak Island; mother and step-father, Linda M. and James Hill of the home; father and step-mother, Thomas and Louise M. Hill of Sophia; and sister, Alesia Presnell of Denton.
BENNIE (JIMMY) PAIGE, JR.
Bennie (Jimmy) Paige, Jr., 82, of Siler City died Sunday (03-29-09) at the Hospice Home in High Point.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lamberts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Paige was a native of Wayne County, Michigan and a member of Lamberts Chapel where he was a member of the senior choir and male chorus.
Survivors include sons, Robert L. Paige of Fayetteville, Grover E. Paige of Siler City; sisters, Shirley Kearney, Christine Raye, both of Siler City; brothers, Alcana Paige of High Point, Graphel Paige, Henry Paige, both of Siler City; and three grandchildren.
BETTY SUE NORTHERN BARDILL
Betty Bardill of Sanford, went home to be with Jesus on March 24, 2009, at the age of 76. She was born on August 24, 1932, in Harriman, Tennessee, where she was raised and eventually met her husband, Charles (Curly) Bardill, of 53 years. They were married on July 2, 1955. Charles and Betty left Tennessee in 1967; they have lived in Puerto Rico, Idaho, and North Carolina, where they retired.
Betty is survived by her husband, Charles, and their two children. Their son is Chuck Bardill and his wife, Wanda. Their daughter is Angela Bardill Maynard and her husband, Stuart Maynard. She had two grandchildren, Jason Turner and Faith Bardill, and a great grandson, Trae Turner. She is also survived by two brothers and their spouses, Bill and Carol Northern, Fred and Darlene Northern, and a brother, Jim Hall, all of Kingston, Tennessee, and several special nieces, Janice Britt, Debbie Ladd, Linda White, Lana Giannella, Rebecca Northern, and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Northern, Jr., two sisters, Virginia Northern Hall, Norma Northern O’Donnell, and a brother, Charles Northern.
The family received friends on March 26, 2009, beginning at 5:30 p.m., with the funeral following at 7 p.m. at New Life Praise Church located at 2398 Wicker Street in Sanford, North Carolina. Reverend Joshua Dickinson officiated. Betty was buried in Tabor City, North Carolina.

CLETUS CHEEK
Cletus Cheek, 90, of 438 Bish Road, Staley, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Cheek was born September 8, 1918, the son of George Dewey and Nancy Myrtle (Ellington) Cheek. He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Stout Chair Company and a member of Kildee Wesleyan Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Cletus enjoyed farming. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Barker Cheek; his parents, George Dewey and Nancy Ellington Cheek and a brother, Robert Cheek.
He is survived by one daughter, Phyllis C. Beal of Staley; step-daughter, Dixie B. Kivett of Liberty; grandchildren, Daniel Beal and Chandra Lafone; great grandchildren, Tyler Sauls and Melissa Lafone; one sister, Mary Ellen Hedrick of Elon; and one brother, William G. Cheek of Siler City.
The family received friends Friday, March 27, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of the daughter, Phyllis Beal, 456 Bish Road, Staley. The graveside service was Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Kildee Wesleyan Church Cemetery, with Rev. Blair Lyseski officiating.
