HOYT W. CLARK
Hoyt Winford Clark, 90, of 204 Holly Hill St., Ramseur, died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
Funeral Services were held at 6 p.m. Sunday, at the First Baptist Church of Ramseur, with Dr. Charles Fleshman and Rev. Gene Burris officiating. Burial was at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church, Siler City.
Mr. Clark was a Chatham County native, a 1947 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and later in life became part owner and operator of Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur from 1972 until 1989, where he served as secretary and treasurer until his retirement. He was a former employee of Smith and Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington and Coble Funeral Home in Wilmington. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a member of the American Legion, a former member of the Ramseur Lions Club and also, former board member at First Citizen's Bank. He was a member for many years of the First Baptist Church in Ramseur, where he served as a Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erie Clark and Nella Marshall Clark and his brothers, Banks Worth Clark, Marshall Bernice Clark and Clarence Edward Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Cara Straughan Clark, of the home; daughter, Louise Hargett of Ramseur; grandchildren, Martha Walkup and her husband, Richard, of Charlotte, Amy Poole and her husband, Jeffrey, of Thomasville, Sarah Jordan and her husband, Alex, of Monroe, Rachel Moore and her husband, Matthew, of Huntersville; great grandchildren, Madison Clark Rogers and Jacob Alexander Jordan, both of Monroe, Christopher Dale and Justin Daniel Poole, both of Thomasville.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur, and other times, at the residence.

MARY RUTH WEBB RICHARDSON
Reidsville– Mary Ruth Webb Richardson, 87, of 1101 Gaddy Street, Reidsville, died on Thursday, May 8, 2009 at her children’s home.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 11, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Reidsville Alliance Church, with Pastor Norm Davis officiating. Interment followed in Dan View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Guil, Mat Willams, Lewis Williams, Wayne Billingsley, Kenneth Billingsley, David Halbrook, George Jordan and Tim Warner. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Morrow, Don Chester, John Ross, J.T. Billingsley and Jon Shrive.
Mrs. Richardson, a native of Rockingham County, was born to the late John Luther and Lena Moles Webb and was a member of Reidsville Alliance Church for over 50 years. She was a former owner of New Laundry and Cleaners, a member of Forest Hills Ext. Homemakers Club, former charter member of the Rockingham Gun Club. After retiring, she attended Rockingham Community College for continuing Educational Classes in art. In addition of her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Richardson, brothers, John Luther Webb, Sr., Luther B. Stanley, and sister, Wavie W. Tew.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Ann Reid and husband, Pete; son, Michael Webb Warren and wife, Jerri; grandchildren, Michele Johnson, John Michael Warren and wife, Lisa, Melody Gwynn Yates and husband, Russell, Ron Kimrey and wife Rhonda, Roger Reid and wife, Marie, Kimberly Johnson and husband, Todd, Kim Gwynn: great grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Cole Johnson, Hunter Gwynn, Christian Reid, Nichole Reid, Luke Kimrey, Ashton Kimrey, Samantha Johnson, Erik Johnson, Chandon Warren, Caleb Gwynn, Daniel Lawrence, Helen Gwynn; Lindsey Yates and Justice Yates; brother, Sherman Webb and wife, Edith; sister, Hattie W. Smith.
The family received friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, May 10 from 7-9 p.m. and other times at her residence, 1101 Gaddy Street.

CLOYCE PICKARD POE
Cloyce Pickard Poe, 80, of Siler City died Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Poe was born March 5, 1929, the daughter of Carl and Sally Lowe Pickard. She was a native of Chatham County, a retired homemaker, and attended Loves Creek Baptist Church. Cloyce was preceded in death by her husband, William Joseph (Joe) Poe; brothers, Jerry, Howard, Doug, Butch, and a sister, Edith.
She is survived by three sisters, Ruby Blair of Siler City, Frances Robbins of Siler City, Aline Lambert of Charleston, SC; one brother, Jack Pickard and wife, Josie of Bonlee; niece, Jackie Wilson and husband, Mike of Bear Creek; nephew, Mark Pickard and wife, Missy of Cary; great nephews, Eric Wilson, wife, Heather and son, Michael Allan of Bear Creek, Alex Wilson of Bear Creek, Chase Pickard of Charleston, SC; great niece, Mallory Pickard of Durham; numerous special nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Saturday, May 9, 2009 from 5-7 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held Sunday, May 10, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Siler City, Siler City with Rev. Bob Boyd officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
ROBERT LEE WATTS
Robert Lee Watts, age 74, of 110 Sunview Drive, Siler City died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at his home. Mr. Watts was born August 30, 1934. He was a native of Asheville, a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a retired medical technician from Chatham Laboratories, Inc.
He is survived by a very dear friend, Olga Phillips of Bear Creek; one daughter, Diana W. Meacham and husband, Frank of Greensboro; two sons, Jim Liner of Seagrove, Bradley Watts of the home; grandchildren, Zach Watts of Siler City, Tracy Liner of Miami, FL, Dax Liner of Seagrove, Tiffany Liner of Asheville; and two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Friday, May 8, 2009 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC. A celebration of life was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ROY S. KEY, JR.
Swansboro – Roy S. Key, Jr. passed away on May 11, 2009 at Carteret General Hospital.
Roy is survived by his wife, Donna and two sons, Mike of Lewisville, and Steve of Raleigh. He has three brothers, Ron of Duluth, GA, John and Tom, both of Woodland, CA. He also has three grandsons, Ben, Adam and Caleb, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Roy was born November 16, 1927 in Herkimer, NY. His family later moved to Colfax, where he grew up. Roy left school in November 1944 and joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Philippines during World War II. Upon returning home he entered High Point College and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
He was past owner of Key Tire and Appliance in Siler City. After selling his business, he became editor of the Chatham News. In 1989, Roy and Donna bought Baker Limestone Company and operated it until 1994 when they sold it and moved to Swansboro. Roy was two-time past president of the Siler City Rotary Club and was a ranger at Star Hill Golf Club. He was a member of Swansboro First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be Thursday night at Jones Funeral Home in Swansboro from 6 until 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Seaside Memorial Park in Swansboro at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15.
JACK CHARLES POLSON
Jack Charles Polson of Pittsboro died Friday (05-01-09) in an auto accident in Orange County.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (05-04-09) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church
Survivors include his wife Linda; daughters, Andrea Akin, Maggie Polson; sons, Gabriel, Cody, Ethan Polson; sister, Zina Sears Cannon; and one granddaughter.
ZEBULON “JOHNNIE” ALLISON
Zebulon “Johnnie” Allison, 78, of Seagrove, died Saturday (05-02-09) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday (05-05-09) at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Boulding and Rev. Gerald Jussey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Allison was a native of Macon County, retired from Martin-Marietta, and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Annie Mae Hussey Allison of the home; step-daughter, Peggy W. Gallimore of Robbins; step-son, Gary Ward of Asheboro; sister, Jerlivee Peyton of Georgia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
DONALD ASA MANESS
Donald Asa Maness, 60, of Robbins, died Saturday (05-02-09) at First Health Montgomery Hospital in Troy.
Graveside service and burial was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (05-05-09) at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Kenneth Bouldin officiating.
Mr. Maness was a native of Moore County, formerly employed with Ramtex, and attended Flint Hill Christian Church.
Survivors include sisters, Betty Maness Owens of Robbins, Kathy Cox of Bennett, Eva Luck of Seagrove; brothers, Alton Maness of Asheboro and Bobby Gene Maness of Ramseur.
CATHERINE PIKE NELSON
Ms. Catherine Pike Nelson, 70, of Burlington died at her residence Sunday, (05-03-09).
Funeral services will be held at Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington, Friday, (05-08-09) at 1 p.m. with a graveside service to follow at 3:30 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City.
A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of Daniel Pike and Ollie Harris Pike, both deceased. She retired from AT&T and Lucent Technologies. She was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Pike.
There are no immediate survivors.
DOROTHY PHILLIPS ANDREW
Dorothy Phillips Andrew, 86, of 1680 Devils Tramping Ground Road, Bear Creek, formerly of Siler City, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at Hill Forest Rest Home, Bear Creek.
Mrs. Andrew was born August 5, 1922, the daughter of Jessie and Mary Bessie Sizemore Phillips. She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She vaccinated chickens for 10 years and was employed with A. J. Schneirson and Sons for five years. Dorothy was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene R. Andrew and a son, Albert Wayne Andrew.
She is survived by one brother, Alton M. Phillips of Siler City; granddaughters, Tonya A. Moore and husband, Dexter, of Bear Creek, Angie A. Blackmon and husband, Dale of Glendon; great-grandchildren, Victoria Stover and husband, Charles, Matt Andrew, Rebecca Moore, Seth McCoy and Ricky Moore; great-great grandchildren, Jacob and Madelynn Stover.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 10-11 a.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church, 1745 East 11th Street, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MURIEL JONES MILLSAPS
Muriel Millsaps, 87, of Siler City, died Sunday, May 3, 2009.
Mrs. Millsaps was born October 7, 1921, the daughter of the late Wade H. and the late Ruth Applegate Jones. Mrs. Millsaps was a native of Harnett County and a graduate of the class of 1939 of Siler City High School. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church and worked as a bookkeeper for the Jones Department Store, which was family owned. She and her husband Steve, founded the Friendly Florist in Siler City in 1947 where she was co-owner and manager. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewing (Steve) Millsaps, Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Millsaps and wife, Wanda of Greensboro, Sam Millsaps and wife, Angela of Siler City; one daughter, Mindy M. Brown and husband, Curtis of Siler City; and one grandson, Spencer Millsaps.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Mike Sykes officiating. The family received friends immediately after the funeral service at the First United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

MARY LEE HART BROOKS EDWARDS
Mary Lee Hart Brooks Edwards, 84, of Burlington Manor, Burlington died Friday, May 1, 2009 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, Burlington.
Mrs. Edwards was born May 12, 1924, the daughter of Willie E. and Janie Andrews Hart. Mrs. Edwards was a native of Chatham County, a retired homemaker and a member of Andrew's Memorial Baptist Church of Graham. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred Paul Brooks. The family would like to thank all the folks at Burlington Manor and the Hospice Home of Burlington for their care, love and support.
She is survived by four daughters, Linda B. Greeson of Whitsett, Janice B. Moser and husband, Daryll of Burlington, Jean B. Stinson and husband, Dan of Bear Creek, Exilee B. Dowd and husband, Steve of Pittsboro; three sons, Dennis P. Brooks and wife, Rebecca of Climax, David Roe Brooks and wife, Sue of Bear Creek, William Dean Brooks and wife, Judy of Goldston; seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, seventeen step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Sunday, May 3, 2009 from 2-3 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, NC. The funeral was held Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Willis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
CHARLES DEWITT HICKS
Charles Dewitt Hicks, 70, Siler City died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hicks was born July 2, 1938, the son of Ernest and Mildred Elizabeth Coggins Hicks. He was a native of Chatham County, attended Western Carolina University and was plant manager of Stout Chair Company. He was a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, the men's senior adult Sunday School class and served as church treasurer. Charles worked in the pro-shop at Siler City Country Club and was a retired Siler City Fireman. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid UNC Tarheel fan.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Heilig Hicks; daughters, Denise H. Suits (John) of Staley, Gay Hicks, Cathy H. Fields, both of Siler City; grandchildren, Cassie Suits, Chris Suits, Matt Phillips and Brandon Fields.
