CHARLES M. “DICK” YORK
Charles Marcus “Dick” York, 95, of Ramseur, died Thursday (05-21-09) at VA Hospital in Durham.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (05-27-09) at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Lindquist officiating.
Mr. York was a Randolph County native, a retired building contractor, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Marietta Lodge #444, Ramseur, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner. He was a WW II Army Veteran and a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Pamela Y. Apple of Myrtle Beach, SC; son Nick York of Seven Lakes; two grandsons, and six great-grandchildren.

BRUCE LUCIEN PARADIS
Mr. Bruce Lucien Paradis, 63, of Siler City, died Thursday (05-21-09) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Services were held at 9 a.m., Tuesday, (05-26-09) from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pittsboro Branch, with President Timothy M. Hester officiating. Graveside rites were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Lawn Memorial Park in Kinston.
Mr. Paradis was born in Presque Isle, ME, the son of Lucien Maurice Paradis and Artheline Theriault Pardis. He served in the US Marine Corps for over ten years, and was retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pittsboro Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Shelly Paradis of the residence; his mother, Artheline T. Paradis of Bristol, CT; brothers, Gary Joseph Paradis of Pittsboro and Jeffrey John Paradis of Bristol, CT.

JACKIE D. McCOY
Jackie D. McCoy of Ramseur died Friday (05-22-09) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (05-24-09) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur, with Rev. Eddie Hill officiating. Burial followed at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Liberty, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. McCoy was a native of Tazwell County, VA, a US Army veteran serving in Vietnam, and had been employed with Goodyear.
Surviving is hie wife, Glenda McMasters McCoy of the home; daughter, Elizabeth Lowe of Silk Hope; son, Richard Darrell McCoy of Asheboro; mother, Mary Ball McCoy of Ramseur; sisters, Margaret Ledbetter, Loretta Ashworth, both of Ramseur, Brenda Hoover of Seagrove; brothers, Arthur McCoy, Larry David McCoy, Ronnie McCoy, all of Ramseur; and six grandchildren.

RUBY GOINS PHILLIPS
Ruby Lee Phillips, 74, of Bear Creek died Saturday, (05-23-09) at her residence.
The funeral was held Monday, (05-25-09) at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Garner and Rev. Troy Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was the daughter of Harvey Lee and Myrtle Chrisco Goins. She was a native of Randolph County, a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and retired from Collins & Aikmans. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Coleman Phillips.
Survivors include son, Steve Allen Phillips of McLeansville; daughters, Catherine Stone of Sanford, Carol Moore of Linden, Lee Martin of Bear Creek; sixteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

MALCOLM CORNELIUS “Cotton” INGOLD, JR.
Malcolm Cornelius “Cotton” Ingold, Jr., 85, of Snow Camp died Saturday (05-23-09) at the Hospice Home of Alamance.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (05-26-09) at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Pastor Kenny Black officiating.
Mr. Ingold was the son of the late Malcolm Cornelius Ingold, Sr. and Ida Powell Ingold. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Cornelia Blanchard Ingold; sister, Nellie Stout; and brothers, Elmer and Gurney Fogleman.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine Brafsher, Penny Johnson; bother, William C. “Bill” Ingold; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM RONALD “BUDDY” COCKMAN
William Ronald "Buddy" Cockman, 72, of Siler City died Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Cockman was born September 1, 1936, the son of Atlas Franklin and Lizzie McIver Cockman. He was a native of Chatham County, a diesel mechanic with Welford Harris Ford for 37 years, and a member of Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, where he served as an usher. He loved children and loved to give away bubble gum to the children at church. William R. loved people, his family, his church and the Lord Jesus Christ. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Paoiwath Ung and his staff at Pinehurst, Dr. Davis, his cardiologist in Pinehurst, and the First Health EMT.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty Wicker Cockman, one son, Larry Wayne Cockman of Siler City; a very special friend of the family whom we all love, Karen Loya of Siler City; two sisters, Frankie C. Mueller of Siler City, Mary Cockman of Chico, CA; granddaughters, Alicia and Jessica Cockman; grandson, Will Cockman; great-granddaughter, Ada; great-grandson, Noah, and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Thursday, May 21, 2009 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral was held Friday, May 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Tyson's Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott Walker and Rev. Randy Hand officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

ISAAC “JUNIOR” MINTER FERGUSON
Isaac “Junior” Minter Ferguson, Jr., 83, of 1206 Jessie Bridges Road, Siler City died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at E. Carlton Powell Hospice Home in Lillington.
Mr. Ferguson was born February 12, 1926, the son of Isaac Minter and La Baron Teague Ferguson, Sr. He was a native of Chatham County, a Navy veteran of WW II, and retired from Kellwood Company. Junior was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Tookie” Ferguson.
He is survived by three sons, Murphy Ferguson and wife, Cynthia of Bear Creek, Jack L. Ferguson of Siler City, Isaac “Ike” M. Ferguson, III and wife, Kathleen of Hillsborough; three sisters, Nancy F. Harris of Siler City, Isabelle Fowler of Nashville, Nell Decker of Being, NY; one brother, Tommy Ferguson of Siler City; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family received friends at the family home. A memorial-graveside service was held Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, with Rev. Herbert Lowry, Jr. officiating.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Hoffman and Hospice for the care and support shown to us in this difficult time. The visits from his friends during his illness will always be remembered.
DOROTHY SESSOMS CRAVEN
Mrs. Dorothy Sessoms Craven, 55, of 2883 River Road, Robbins, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at High Falls Friends Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Craven was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Dorothy Tillman Sessoms, was a native of New Hanover County and was retired from Ramtex in Ramseur.
Survivors include her husband, Henry B. Craven of the home; daughter, Amanda Burns and husband Chris of Charlotte; son, Benjamin C. Henline and wife, Debbie of Statesboro, GA; step-son, Brian Craven and wife Jenny of Robbins; sister, Barbara Seawell of Carthage; brothers, Robert Sessoms, Jr. and wife Connie of Wilson, Ricky Sessoms and wife Sheila of Ramseur, Alan Sessoms and wife Rhonda of Robbins, James Sessoms and wife Rhonda of Haw River; grandchildren, C.J., Molly, and Patrick Burns, Amanda Garner and Andrew Craven; great-grandchildren, Austin Garner and Lacey Garner.
Visitation was held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

THADDEUS F. GARRETT
Thaddeus F. Garrett, 73, of Fayetteville died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville.
Mr. Garrett was an Air Force veteran and the founder of Garrett Trucking. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Lilly Garrett; brothers, Collins, Eugene, Tom; and a sister, Mildred Page.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at 1 p.m. in Adcock Funeral Home Chapel in Spring Lake, with Rev. Dr. Bruce Martin officiating. Interment followed in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Surviving is his wife, Lois Gibbs Garrett; four sons, Randy Garrett of Wilmington, Robert, Reggie, Rodney Garrett, all of Fayetteville; two brothers, Marine Garrett of Raleigh, Ted Garrett of Durham; three sisters, Janet McLaurin of Pittsboro, Thelma O’Daniel of Chapel Hill, Glynda Roberts of Myrtle Beach, SC; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family received friends at Adcock Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 27, 2009, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
MYRTLE GARNER CHEEK NOAH
Mrs. Myrtle Garner Cheek Noah, 87, of 6912 Cheek-Purvis Trail, Bennett, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Randolph Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Rowland and Rev. Billy Chrisco officiating.
Mrs. Noah was born July 3, 1921 in Lee County, to William Bradley Garner and Hassie Maness Garner. She retired from B. B. Walker Shoe Company. She cherished the time she spent with her pastors, family, friends and neighbors. She especially loved the time spent in her flower garden and developed a hobby of bird watching. Most dear to her heart were the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with anticipation of the birth of three more great-grandchildren this year.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Henry Roe Cheek, and later, by her second husband, James Noah and by ten siblings.
Survivors include her daughters, Irene Cheek Davis of Seagrove, Clara Cheek Lucas and husband, Darrell of Asheboro, Ruby Cheek Moore and husband, Eugene of Siler City; son, Herman Cheek and wife, Barbara of Bennett, ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lucille Rodgers of Florida and Dorothy Medlin of Sanford.
RUBY FOWLER COX
Mrs. Ruby Fowler Cox, 69, of Bennett died Friday (05-15-09) at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (05-18-09) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Pastor Mark Strickland officiating, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was a native of Richmond County, an employee of Randolph Hospital in the commons food service area, and had previously worked for B.B. Walker Shoe Company.
Survivors include her husband, Melvin Lee Cox of the home; daughters, Sandy Surratt, Lisa Hunt, Johnnie Elliot, Patty Willard, all of Asheboro; step-sons, Melvin Cox, Jr. of Savannah, GA, William Mitchell Cox of Bennett; step-daughter, Susan Thomas of Asheboro; brother, Dewey Fowler or Loris, SC; sisters, Mary Ruth Wilkens of Leland, Lucille Clemmons of Wilmington, Maggie McCullom of Elizabethtown; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
RACHEL SMITH BOTTOMS
Rachel Smith Bottoms, 85, of Oak Island, formerly of Siler City, died Sunday (05-17-09) at the home of her daughter.
The graveside services were held Wednesday (05-20-09) at 12 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City.
Mrs. Bottoms was the daughter of Herbert and Sallie Foust Smith. She was a native of Chatham County, a retired homemaker and attended the Siler City Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest T. Bottoms.
She is survived by one daughter, Teresa B. Mabe of Oak Island; sons, Jeff Bottoms of Bennett, Charlie Bottoms of Oak Island, Tommy Bottoms of Bladenboro, Kevin Barnwell of Siler City; sister, Barbara Norris of Hillsborough; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
