WILMA LOREE BROWN
Mrs. Wilma Loree Brown, of Ellenwood, GA, a former Social Worker and retired Educator of 40 years for the Atlanta Public School system, passed June 18, 2009.
Celebration of Life Service was held on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 11 a.m. at Salem Bible Church, 2283 Baker Rd. NW (404) 792-0303. Pastor Jasper W. Williams, Jr., Senior Pastor. Interment was in Westview Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Charles (Suzette) and Victor (Tahiera) Brown; brother, Rev. Mansel P. McCleave; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

MARY LEE CHEEK POLLOK
Mary Lee Cheek Pollok, 81, of Greensboro, NC, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing Center in Greensboro, NC.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at George Brothers funeral service Chapel.
Following her graduation at Hillsborough High School, Mary Lee continued her education at Cross Business School. She then went to work for Wright Machinery Company until she went to work for Clyde Rudd and Associates where she retired. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Gardner Pollok.
Mary Lee is survived by her son, David Pollok; daughters, Jeannie Malcolm, Phyllis Matheson; grandchildren, Mary Faucette, Eian Malcolm, Stephanie Matheson; great-grandchildren, Gavin Jess and Berkley Faucette; sister, Margaret Miller; brothers, Donald, Leonard, and John Cheek.
The family received friends from 1 to 2 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home prior to the service.

ROBERT DOUGLAS REED
Robert Douglas Reed, 53, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday (06-09-09) at NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (06-12-09) at Apex Funeral Home,
Mr. Reed was born in Asheville, the son of Alfred Douglas Reed of Cullowhee and the late Joyce Freeman Reed. He attended Western Carolina University and was an alumnus of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was employed with SAS Institute in Cary, where he was one of the first recipients of the SAS President’s Award.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Teresa Jessup Reed; daughters, Emily Margaret and Erin Jessup, all of the home; brothers, Rick of Phoenix, David of Richland, MO, Tim of Durham, and Joe of Pittsboro.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made the to the Woods Charter School Foundation; or to the trust for Emily Reed and Erin Reed at any SunTrust bank.
WILLIAM EDGAR SPELL, SR.
William Edgar Spell Sr., 90 of Sanford, died Friday, (06-12-09) at Central Carolina Hospital.
A graveside service was held Monday, (06-15-09) at Lee Memory Garden with Rev. Greg Davenport officiating. The family was presented a flag in recognition of Mr. Spell’s military service.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Spell of Sanford; daughter, Kathy S. Blackwelder of Sanford; sons, William E Spell, Jr. of Aiken SC, Danny Dinkins of Sanford, Thomas Earl Dinkins of Bangkok, Thailand, Billy Dinkins of Winterville; sister, Lola Odom of Erwin; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Spell served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was the owner and operator of the Furniture Mart of Sanford, and past president of the Civitan Club.

ROY MICHAEL McMAHON
Roy Michael McMahon, 68, of Sanford died Saturday, (06-13-09) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Graveside service and burial will be Monday, (06-15-09) at 11 a.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.
Mr. McMahon was the son of Michael and Ethel Evans McMahon, a native of Olyphant, PA., an Air Force Veteran and a self employed truck driver. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Ray, brother, Rex and a step-son, Michael Stone.
Survivors include his wife, Ruey Brown McMahon; daughter, Melissa Moltenbrey of Sanford; sister, Mary Rowkoski of Spring Lake; step-son, Phillip Stone of St. Petersburg, FL; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

GERALD “DOTTIE” THOMAS HOLT
Gerald "Dottie" Thomas Holt, 64, of Siler City died Saturday, (06-13-09) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Graveside service and burial was held Monday, (06-15-09) at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating.
Mr. Holt was the son of Wade and Dorothy Willett Holt, and a native of Chatham County. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Rabon Holt.
Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Holt of Asheboro; four sisters, Kathryn Powers Barbara Boone, both of Siler City, Sandra Moody of Sanford, Brenda Duncan of Charlotte; brothers, Wink Holt, Punk Holt, Buddy Holt, all of Siler City; and two grandchildren.
COL. JOHN ROBERT DOPLER, USMC (Retired)
Col. John Robert Dopler, 79, USMC (Retired), died Monday (06-08-09) at his home in Pittsboro.
A memorial service will be held at the Gathering Place, Fearrington Village, at 2 p.m. Thursday (06-18-09) with Rev. Mindy Adams and Rev. Peter Thomas presiding. Masonic rites will be observed. Col. Dopler’s remains will rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
A native of Ohio, Col. Dopler was the son of Harold E. and Anncille Minerva Mc- Daniel Dopler. He was a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, OH. He was in the US Marine Corps, served in Vietnam and retired as a Colonel He was a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a member of the Pittsboro Kiwanis Club, and involved in Masonry for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Maxine Fleming Dopler; son, John Charles Dopler of Raleigh; and one grandson.

JANIE BROOKS DORSETT
Mrs. Janie Brooks Dorsett, 90, of Snow Camp died Wednesday (06-10-09) at Careview Rest Home.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday (06-15-09) at the First Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Dorsett was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by sons James Dorsett, Kelly Dorsett, and grandson, Scottie Degreffenriedt.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Degreffenriedt of Siler City; eleven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
MAX PARKER SEARS
Max Parker Sears, 80, of 701 North Glenn Avenue, Siler City died Monday, June 8, 2009 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Sears was born August 15, 1928, the son of Dr. Carson R. and Kate Phillips Sears. He was a native of Chatham County, retired from Kellwood, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City. Max enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters and going with them to the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Isley Sears; daughter, Kathy Sears Hubbert and husband Bill, of Greensboro; and granddaughters, Sara and Anna Hubbert.
The family received friends Friday, June 12, 2009 from 10-11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Ave., Siler City. The funeral was held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

RUTH PERRY MINOR
Ruth Perry Minor, 85, died at Coventry House of Siler City, Tuesday June 9, 2009. She was a Chatham County native.
Ruth was a retired homemaker, a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aycock and Annie Perry, her sister, Marlene Davis and her husband, Kirk Minor.
Ruth is survived by one sister, Joyce Clark of Greensboro; brother, Clyde Reid Perry of Silk Hope; daughter, Missy Cherry of Ahoskie; and one son, Jody Minor of Siler City. She leaves behind two granddaughters, Hannah Cherry in Ahoskie, Amanda Phillips, living in Bear Creek and great-granddaughter, Sheridan Phillips.
The family received friends at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home on Friday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. A private burial will be held in Ahoskie.
CLAIRE “JENNIE” DOSS SHAW
Claire (Jennie) Doss Shaw, 68, of 780 Old Rustburg Road, Lynchburg, VA, formally of Bear Creek, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Shaw was born September 27, 1940, the daughter of Charlie G. and Alease Johnson Doss. She was a native of Lynchburg, VA, a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Lynchburg and a restaurant manager. Jennie was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. Shaw.
She is survived by three daughters, Maggie Ann Shaw of the home, Shelby Smith and husband, Vincent of Rustburg, VA, Wanda Simmers and husband, David of Lynchburg, VA; one sister, Nancy Hardy and husband, Dallas of Goldston; three brothers, Charles Doss and wife, Shirley of Rustburg, VA, Willie Doss of Rustburg, VA, James Doss and wife, Brenda of Appomattox, VA; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two grand dogs.
The graveside service was held Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.
The family was at the home of the sister, Nancy Hardy, 1027 Goldston-Glendon Road, Goldston.
DONNA ANNE CARLE
5/4/1954-6/5/2009
Donna was lost to this world recently after a brave week- long battle in the ICU unit at UNC Hospital.
The family wants to thank all the angels present who comforted her during this difficult period.
Donna is survived by her husband of fifteen years, Jeffrey Hassler, and her kids…four dogs and six cats. She is also survived by her mother, Virginia Johnson of Battle Creek, MI; two brothers, Steven Carle of Battle Creek, MI and Albert Carle of West Palm Beach, FL.
Donna was a resident of Chatham County for the past 16 years. She gave much of her time and energy caring for others, and volunteering for many local organizations. She was perhaps best known as the manager of the Pittsboro Farmers’ Market. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her for her incredible loving spirit and drive.
