KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Thomas J. Henson, 58, of 229 Heather Lane, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at his home. He was a native of Cleveland County, and son of the late the Rev. Jesse C. Henson. He was also preceded in death by his son, Bryan Henson (twin to Ryan); and brother, Paul Henson. He was a former employee of Commercial Intertech in Kings Mountain and member of First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Williams Henson of Kings Mountain; two sons, Ryan Henson and Christopher Thomas Henson and wife, Holly, all of Kings Mountain; his mother, Bertha A. Henson of Kings Mountain; and a brother, Bobby Henson of Kings Mountain. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Don Williams officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Charleen Harrelson Martin, 80, of 111 Croft Drive, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital in Kings Mountain. She was a native of Cleveland County, and daughter of the late Boyd and Ella Mae Pasour Harrelson. She was the wife of the late Edwin D. Martin. She was also preceded in death by a son, Richard Wayne “Dickie” Harrelson; and a sister, Doris Curtis. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of El Bethel United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. She was a volunteer at the Shelby Senior Center and was voted Senior Volunteer of the Year. She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Hampton, Va. She is survived by three daughters, Marsha Bristow of Kings Mountain, Ella Mae Hendricks of Fallston and Ann Stefl and husband, Jim, of Stafford, Va.; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Harrelson of Kings Mountain; a sister, Peggy Baird of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Hobson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall. SHELBY — Mr. Stacey Paul Parrott, 48, of 109 Maple St., died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at home. A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Randolph and Mary Stewert Parrott. He worked for many years with the Shelby City School system and worked with the Shelby High School varsity football team for many years. He was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Parrott. He leaves to cherish fond memories two brothers, Randolph Parrott Jr. and Harold Parrott, both of Shelby; eight sisters, Minnie Rudisill of Shelby, Rosa Rose of Upper Marlboro, Md., Robbie Lee of Lawndale, Deborah Howell, Staria Littlejohn and Mary Ross, all of Shelby, Cheryl Parrott of Lattimore and Karen Bonner of Lanham, Md.; a devoted friend, Jeffery Knotts; and many other relatives and friends. The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Dr. S.A. Raper officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns. ‘Fan’ Brooks
SHELBY — Mrs. Susan “Fan” Fannie Gertrude Bost Brooks, 85, of 804 Charles Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She graduated from Startown High School in 1933 and Women’s College of North Carolina in 1937. She taught at Mills Home Orphanage and was a teacher one year for Elizabeth City Public Schools. She was an active member of First Baptist Church and in church classes and groups in North Carolina and Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Palmer Brooks; her father, Thomas Garlen Bost; and her mother, Della Cansler Bost. She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Susan and James Pike of Chapel Hill, Jane and Jeff Sanders of Aurora, Colo., Rebekah Brooks and Polly Brooks, both of Shelby; a sister, Edith Jenkins; five brothers, Wayne, Donald, Vann, Floyd and Benne Bost; three grandsons and a spouse, Ben and Marsha Pike, Andrew Pike and James Sanders; three great-grandsons, (triplets), Tyler, Logan and Ryan Pike; five sisters-in-law, Edith Hoffman, Clara Lowe, Margaret Brooks, Gladys Boroughs and husband, Lewis, and Reba Tapy and husband, George; and two brothers-in-law and spouses, Dennis and Jo Brooks and C.J. and Joan Brooks. The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Chapel with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Burial will be private. He was employed at Anvil Knit and was previously employed by Kings Mountain Hospital and Century Care of Shelby. He was a member of Roberts Tabernacle Church. He was preceded in death by a brother, Loy B. Sweezy; and a sister, Carolyn Thompson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Donice Murdock Walls; a son, Reginald Demarest Ford of Hickory; two daughters, Charity Lee Roberts of Shelby and Regina Donice Walls of the home; two brothers, Sidney Brown and Pete Brown both of Kings Mountain; six sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice and Taft Borders of Shelby, Deborah Foster-Smith of Charlotte, Kimberly Denise and Kenneth Lewis of Shelby, Patricia Brown of Kings Mountain, Jackie Brown of New Jersey and Joydonna Phillips of Shelby; two granddaughters, Ivorie Ford of Hickory and Kaleah Roberts of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Annie Cleo Murdock of Kingstown; a sister-in-law, Beverly Murdock of Shelby; and a godson, Jaylon Scott of Shelby. ELLENBORO — Mr. Ray Junior Swafford, 63, of 1847 Tiney Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Rutherford Memorial Hospital. Born in Buford, Ga., he was a son of the late J.H. and Essie Mae Stephen Swafford. He retired from L&K Co. after more than 20 years and attended Open Arms Baptist Church. SHELBY — Mrs. Kay Lee Noblitt, 67, of 910 E. Main St., died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover. Born June 28, 1935, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar Owenby Lee Sr. and Sallie Gantt Lee. She retired from James Love School as secretary. She was a member of Shelby First Church of the Nazarene. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Edgar Douglas Lee; three sisters, Sara Virginia Lee, Louise Lee Wellmon and husband, Billy Dwight Wellmon, and Jo Ann Lee Crowder and husband, William Alan Crowder; and two brothers-in-law, S.M. Weathers and Johnnie C. Smith. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Gilbert Noblitt of the home; a son and daughter-in-law. Doug and Diane Noblitt of Salem, Ohio; two granddaughters, Amy Blakeman and husband, Travis, of Leetonia, Ohio, and Lindsey Noblitt of Salem; a brother and sister-in-law, E.O. Walter Manley Jr.
LINCOLNTON — Mr. Walter Harris Manley Jr., 80, of 4279 Highway 150 E., died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2002, at Lincoln Medical Center. Mr. Manley was born March 15, 1922, in Greenville County, S.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ethel McFerrin Manley; his wife, Betty Joyce Manley; and daughter, Betty Joyce Manley. Mr. Manley retired after working for the N.C. Division of Highways after 53 years of service. He served in the Army during World War II, member of Post 240 in Maiden, was a member of Oasis Temple, A.A.O.M.J. of Charlotte and member of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.J. USA of Charlotte. Survivors include three sons, Walter H. Manley III of Nashville, Tenn., Louis Ross Manley of Kings Mountain and David Todd Manley of Fort Erwin, Calif.; and two daughters, Becky M. Holman of Shelby and Beverly M. Garris of Gastonia; one brother, Jack Manley of Charlotte; friend and companion, Inez Cloninger of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Born in Spindale, he was a son of Ada Vera Green Mace of Shelby and the late Earl Mace Sr. He attended Clemson University and served in the Air Force in the Korean Conflict, retired from Binswanger Glass Co., and a member of First Baptist Church of Mauldin. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa M. and Steve T. James of Simpsonville; one son and daughter-in-law, Alan R. and Beverly Mace of New York City; one sister, Jessie M. Shytle of Rock Hill, S.C.; two brothers, Earl Mace Jr. of Shelby and Jerry Mace of Gaffney, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Tyler James and Kacy James of Simpsonville and Jazz Mace and Kai Mace of New York City.
