Miss Elizabeth Lee Smith, 86, of Pittsboro, died Sunday (08-16-09) at UNC Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (08-19-09) at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jeff Babajtis presiding.
Born in Chatham County, she was a daughter of Walter and Laura Dowd Smith. Miss Smith attended Bynum School, was a member of Bynum United Methodist Church, and retired from Odell Manufacturing.
There are no immediate survivors.

BEULAH KECK DONALDSON
Mrs. Beulah Keck Donald-son, 75, died Sunday (08-16-09) at the residence of her son in Pittsboro.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, (08-21-09) at Hanks Chapel Church, with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Ray Gooch presiding.
Born in Chatham County, Mrs. Donaldson was a daughter of Gordon and Hattie Jones Keck. Before retiring, she was a CNA II, who worked for Dr. Westmoreland, then at both Laurels and Carolina Meadows. She was a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Dave Donaldson; son, Mark Donaldson of Pittsboro; brother, James Keck of East Point, GA; sisters, Doris Jackson, Pat Weeks, both of Pittsboro; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents, and siblings Geneva Harris, Lib Sykes, Bill Keck, and Roy Keck.
Friends may visit with the family from 6-8 p.m.Thursday (08-20-09) at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Griffin Chapel; and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Donaldson, 452 Powell Place.

MARSHALL “MARK” GLENN BLANTON
Marshall “Mark” Glenn Blanton, 46, died Saturday (08-15-09) at his home.
A private memorial service will be held Thursday (08-20-09).
Survivors include a son, Casey Martin Blanton of Michigan; mother, Viola F. Blanton of Siler City; brothers, James Blanton of Michigan, Jason Blanton of Raleigh, Matt Blanton of Wilmington; sisters, Sharon Stanley of Raleigh, Holly Fulcher of Siler City. He was preceded in death by his father, Byron Blanton and brother, Ted Blanton.
LINDA POE ELLIS
Linda Poe Ellis, 68, of Siler City died Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.
Mrs. Ellis was born December 7, 1940 the daughter of Lewis and Saddie Hall Poe.
Mrs. Ellis was a native of Lee County and retired from Brower Furniture in Staley. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Billy S. Ellis and son, Larry Keith Ellis.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Brewer and husband, Nelson of Siler City; son, Billy Lewis Ellis and wife, Bonnie of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Billy Joe Ellis, Ashley James, Marsha Torres, Ben and Lindsey Sharpe, Bridget Ellis; great-grandchildren, Mason Tyler Sharpe, Abigail James, Lilliauna Torres and Kadence James.
The family received friends Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Friday, August 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Herbert Lowry Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
CARA S. CLARK
Cara Straughan Clark, 93, of 204 Holly Hill St., Ramseur, died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church in Ramseur, with Dr. Charles Fleshman and Rev. Gene Booker officiating. Burial followed at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church, Siler City.
Mrs. Clark was born and raised in Silk Hope in Chatham County and retired from Randolph County Schools where she worked as a teacher’s assistant. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was active in various book clubs and garden clubs. She loved her flowers, especially her day lilies. Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her husband Hoyt W. Clark, her parents, Henry Jerome Straughan and Ila Ferguson Straughan, her sisters, Louise Straughan, Mary Lois Latta, Aline Tate, Lina Straughan, her brothers, Alfred Straughan, Vesta Straughan, and Sadie Straughan.
Survivors include a daughter, Louise Hargett, of Ramseur; grandchildren, Martha Walk-up and her husband, Richard, of Charlotte, Amy Poole and her husband, Jeffrey, of Thomasville, Sarah Jordan and her husband, Alex, of Monroe, Rachel Moore and her husband, Matthew, of Huntersville; great grandchildren, Madison Clark Rogers and Jacob Alexander Jordan, both of Monroe, Christopher Dale and Justin Daniel Poole, both of Thomasville.
Visitation was held from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, Ramseur and other times at the residence.

VERNON RHODES PHILLIPS
Vernon Rhodes Phillips, age 91, of 16457 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek died Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.
Mr. Phillips was born June 13, 1918, the son of Richmond and Virginia Hunter Phillips. He was a native of Black Mountain, NC, and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he was a former Sunday school teacher and deacon. Mr. Phillips loved hunting and wood-working. He was a retired construction worker and farmer. Vernon was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Mae Phillips; brothers, Coleman, Clifton, Coolidge, Eugene and Marion Phillips; sisters, Cora Lou Owens, Virginia Burton, Lucy Tally and Effie Rose.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Tally Phillips; four daughters, Betty Ruggiero and husband, Novello of Watertown, CT, Marie Gaines of Bear Creek, Nancy Fields and husband, Philip of Chesapeake, VA, Judy Councilman and husband, Harold of Bear Creek; one sister, Mamie Reese of Dallas, TX; seven grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren, eight step- grandchildren, eight step- great-grandchildren and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Monday, August 17, 2009 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, August 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
MRS. JEAN FULLER
Mrs. Jean Fuller died Monday August 17, 2009 at her home in Pittsboro, surrounded by her family.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 22 at 7354 US Highway 64 West, Pittsboro at the home of Mrs. Fuller.
Mrs. Fuller was born on August 8, 1934 and was a native of Pleasant Garden.
She is survived by her loving husband Charles Fuller; brothers, Jess Willard of Apex, W.O. Willard of Greensboro; her children, Charles Wicker and wife Dana of Siler City, Cindy Little and husband Tony of Albemarle, Steve Marlowe and wife Donna of Pittsboro; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and an abundance of friends.
LEROY “BUTCH” BOCHETTE
Leroy “Butch” Bochette, 58, of Bear Creek died Wednesday (08-05-09) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (08-07-09) at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors.
A native of Monrovia, CA, Mr. Bochette was the son of the late Foster Leroy Bochette and Susan Adkins Bochette. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was an electrician for Gregory Electric, and attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Bochette of Bear Creek; sons, Tommy of Bear Creek, Michael of Sanford; daughter, Crystal of Bear Creek; brothers, Mike Bochette, Tommy Hudson, both of Orangeburg, SC, John Hudson, Jesse Hudson, both of Sumter, SC; sisters, Henrietta Smith, Katherine Kraft, Rosalee Mosklano, all of Sumter, SC; and six grandchildren.

AILENE PHILLIPS GLASS IBARAKI
Mrs. Ailene Phillips Glass Ibaraki, 92, of Gulf, died Friday (08-07-09) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
No services are planned at this time.
Mrs. Ibaraki was a native of Chatham County, the daughter of the late James Alton and Rosa Jane Brafford Phillips. She was preceded by a son, Edward Pinckney, her husbands, Charles Pinckney, George Lee Glass, Larry Ibaraki, two brothers and five sisters.
Survivors include sisters, Effie P. Poe of Gulf and Thelma P. Thomas of Powder Springs, Ga.

EARL “PUNK” HOLT
Earl "Punk" Holt, 72, of Siler City, died Monday, (08-10-09) at his residence.
Graveside service was held Wednesday, (08-12-09) at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. Rodney Hellard officiating.
Mr. Holt was the son of Wade and Dorothy Willett Holt. He was a native of Chatham County and retired from Glendale Hosiery. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Cynthia H. Thomas and brothers, Dotty and Rabon Holt.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Smith Holt; sons, Andy Holt of Siler City, Mike Holt of Goldston; four sisters, Kathryn H. Powers, Barbara H. Boone, both of Siler City, Sandra H. Moody of Sanford, Brenda H. Duncan of Charlotte; brothers, Wink Holt and Buddy Holt, both of Siler City.
MARY ELIZABETH FLIPPIN CAVINESS
Bennett - Mary Elizabeth Flippin Caviness of Asheboro, formerly of 325 James Caviness Road, Siler City, died Friday, August 7, 2009 at Clapp’s Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2009 at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Mark Strickland, Rev. James Caviness, and Rev. Rob Shelton officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Caviness was born December 12, 1921 to the late Robert and Rosa Chilton Flippin in Randolph County. She lived all her life in Randolph and Chatham counties. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, James W. Caviness, Sr., and her brothers, Ivory A. Flippin and Robert L. Flippin.
Elizabeth treasured the times she spent with her family, especially those with her children and grandchildren. She had a lifelong appreciation for reading, history, poetry and writing. Family and friends will long remember the handwritten correspondence sent over many years. She helped complete a booklet for Coleridge High School Reunion group. She was instrumental in writing the church history for Pleasant Grove Christian Church where she served many roles in the Women’s Missionary Group and as a Sunday School teacher.
She is survived by her children, Rev. James W. Caviness, Jr. and wife Jackie of Siler City, Edward E. Caviness, Sr. and wife Martha of Danville, Va., Linda C. Rudd of Durham, Beth C. Hampton and husband Gerald of Franklinville, Raymond N. Caviness and wife Jane of Siler City, and Sarah L. Caviness of Fuquay-Varina. There are 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

NAZARIA JOAQUIN MUNOZ
Mrs. Nazaria Joaquin Munoz, 70, of Siler City, died Tuesday, (07-28-09) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held from 6–9 p.m. Friday (07-31-09) at Iglesia Bautista Misionera Roca Fuerta, in Pittsboro. The graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (08-01-09).
Born in Mexico, she was the daughter of Julio Munoz and Nicolasa Joaquin.She was a homemaker, and a member of Iglesia Bautista Misionera Roca Fuerta in Pittsboro.
Survivors include her husband, Calixto Hernandez; sons, Jose Luis, Cruz, Sual, Amatias, Javier, Gerardo Hernandez; daughters, Elena, Estella, Graciela, Marta, and Alna Hernandez; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and eleven brothers and sisters. Her son, Javier, preceded her in death.
