JANICE JOHNSON HOLT
Janice Johnson Holt, 67, of Winter Garden, Florida died Tuesday (10-27-09) at Colonial lake Healthcare.
A private memorial service was held Friday (11-06-09)
Mrs. Holt was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank D. Holt and her parents, L.D. and Cornelia Johnson.
Survivors include daughters, Kim King, Simone Lambe, both of Apopka, FL; brother, David Johnson of Kissimmee, FL; sisters, Edwinta Staley of Siler City, Selena Parks of Ramseur; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
KENDRICK R. McKOY
Kendrick Roy’El McKoy, 31, of Goldston died Friday (11-06-09) at his home.
Services were held at 12 noon on Tuesday (11-10-09) at Gethsemane-Mt. Sinai United Holy Church with Bishop Roy McKoy and Elder Curtis Boykin officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Sanford.
Survivors include his parents, Bishop Roy and Alice Jean McKoy; sister, Pamela McKoy; and grandmother, Elizabeth McKoy.
LEO “CLARENCE” CAVINESS
Leo “Clarence” Caviness, 81, of Robbins, died Sunday, (11-08-09) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (11-11-09) at Beulah Baptist Church, with Rev. Gene Booker and Dr. Curtis Barbery officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Caviness was born in Guilford County, was for many years employed by Robbins Mill and later was a driver for Klopman Mills. He also worked for Moore County Schools and was a bus driver for 11 years. Mr. Caviness was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he was a deacon. He played upright bass in High Country Bluegrass group.
Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Comer Caviness; sons, Windell F. Caviness of Concord, Leo E. Caviness of Robbins; daughters, Lois Ann Cockman of Robbins, Evelyn Lorraine Leonard of Timberlake; sisters, Inez Hussey, Uznia Garner, Lorette Cain, all of Robbins; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

DOUGLAS L. WARNER
Douglas L. Warner, of Pittsboro, formerly of Petersburg, VA, died Sunday, (11-08-09).
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, (11-13-09) at Pittsboro Christian Village Chapel with interment following in Chatham Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 1:15 – 1:50 p.m. Friday in the parlor adjacent to the Village Chapel.
Educated in the Winsted, CT school system, Mr. Warner served in the Medical Corps of the US Army in Korea. He was a life underwriter in his insurance business, Investor’s Planning Service. Mr. Warner served in his church affiliation as an Elder over many years and served with the Gideon’s in Bible distribution.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Betty Dancy Warner, also of Pittsboro; children, Susan Warner Crawford of Huntsville, AL, William Douglas “Buddy” Warner of Graham; sister, Sylvia W. Cain of Prince Edward Island; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard V. Warner; mother, Leah R. Warner, and father, Richard Warner.

VIOLA NEASE PRICE
Viola Nease Price, 96, of Goldston died Sunday, (11-08-09) at her residence.
The funeral will be Thursday, (11-12-09) at 1 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with Rev. Bobby Shutt and Rev. Harold Fletcher officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park, Greensboro on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
Mrs. Price was the daughter of Darius H. and Ida Watkins Nease. She was a native of Guilford County, retired from Vick's Chemical, and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Price; two sisters, Swannie Wright, Louise Ramsey; brothers, E. H., Carl, Walter and Buddy Nease.
Survivors include sons, Paul W. Price of Goldston, Gary L. Price of Archdale, James L. Price of Lenoir; brother, Leroy Nease of Carrboro; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday, (11-11-09) from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

VIRGINIA FOWLER GURNEY
Mrs. Virginia Fowler Gurney, 89, Pittsboro died Friday (11-06-09) at the Arbor at Galloway Ridge.
Mrs. Gurney will be cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Mrs. Gurney was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Arthur H. Fowler and Emily Williamson Baisley Fowler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Higgins Gurney.
Survivors include sons Craig Gurney of Enka, and Lloyd Gurney of Hailey, Idaho.
VIRGINIA BRANTON TEE
Mrs. Virginia Branton Tee, 85, of Pittsboro, died Thursday (11-05-09) at Durham Regional Hospital.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, (11-14-09) at Church of the Holy Family, with Rev. Michelle L. Robertshaw and The Rev. Peter Thomas presiding.
Mrs. Tee was born in Meridian, MS, a daughter of Marion Luther Branton and Tera Brila Evans Branton. A homemaker, she was active in various community activities including the Chatham Habitat for Humanity. She attended Church of the Holy Family in Chapel Hill.
Survivors include her daughter, Mia Munn of Pittsboro; son, Steve Tee of Austin, TX; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donn Myron Teel.

ROSCOE WOMBLE
Roscoe Womble, 80, of Greensboro died Wednesday (11-04-09) at his home.
Services will be held Sunday (11-08-09) at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church, Greensboro, with internment at Carolina Biblical Gardens of Guilford in Jamestown.
Mr. Womble was a native of Siler City and the son of the late Juanita Womble Siler and Bill Alexander. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, receiving the Bronze Service Star. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, was a member of St. James Baptist Church, a member of the Old North State Elks Lodge #87, and Past Exalted Ruler of Council #101. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leola Jones Womble.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Lenora Brindle; sisters, Maxine Bakeman, Rosa Purcell of Greensboro, Joyce Flowers of New York; brother, Samuel Alexander of Atlanta, GA; step-sister, Sylvia Morris of Baltimore, MD; step-brother, Fred Siler of Siler City; and two step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday (11-08-09) at Percy J. Brown Funeral Home with family visitation at 2 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church.

ALICE TILLMAN FIELDS
Alice Fields, 94, of 120 Clint Fields Road, Bear Creek died Monday, November 9, 2009 at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
Mrs. Fields was born August 2, 1915, the daughter of Giles N. and Mary Alice Phillips Tillman. Mrs. Fields was born in Moore County and worked as Post Master for 18 years in Bear Creek. She was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church with perfect attendance for 29 years. She formerly taught the women's Sunday School class, was a past member of the Training Union, and had served as church hostess and worked with the young adults. Alice enjoyed reading, gardening and working in her yard. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her black Labrador, Midnight. She was the last of eight siblings and preceded in death by her husband, Clint Fields.
She is survived by two daughters, Ruth Sapp Stamey and husband, Joel of Bear Creek, Debbie Brady and husband, Melvin of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Mary Alice Brady Christman and husband, Monte of Sanford, Mike Sapp and wife, Lori of Mebane, Pam Sapp Whitaker and husband, Roy of Carthage, Pam Sapp Bullard of Fayetteville; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; special friends, Mary Burke, Marcelle Coble, Wanna Mae Fields and special friend and caregiver, Eula Burns.
The family received friends Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the family home. The funeral was held Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Wall and Rev. Scott Walker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JOHN W. BROWN
John W. Brown, 81, of Pittsboro - A memorial service was held at the North Atlanta Bible Chapel at 2 p.m., Sunday, (11-01-09).
Mr. Brown was a native of Calhoun Falls, SC. He graduated from Nancy Hart High School and served in the U S Navy at the end of World War II. He was the president of Artistic Ornamental Iron Company, Artsteel, and was the founding president of the National Ornamental Metal Manufacturer's Association. He was an elder and the assembly's treasurer at the North Atlanta Bible Chapel for over 50 years, as well as president and trustee of the Stewards Foundation, a national Christian service organization.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Dickson Brown; brothers, Billy Ray Brown, Sherman Brown; sisters, Nita Hill, Vicky Johnson; children, Sharon Sherrer, Susan Rubin, Carolyn Talley, Dickson Brown; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

RAYMOND EARNEST LILLY
Raymond Earnest Lilly, 69, of Siler City died Sunday, (11-01-09) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
The graveside service was held Wednesday, (11-04-09) at 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Rev. Bewey Shaver officiating.
Mr. Lilly was the son of Lacy Lewis and Goldie Sizemore Lilly. He was a native of Raleigh County, West Virginia, attended Cornerstone Baptist Church, and was a self-employed taxidermist.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Stone Lilly; sons, Stephen Lilly of Siler City, David R. Lilly of Mooresville; sister, Zonia Williams of Siler City; one granddaughter, three step-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
