WILLIAM BIGE KIDD, JR.

William Bige Kidd, Jr., 71, of Staley died Sunday, (11-22-09) at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The memorial service will be held Saturday, (11-28-09) at 2 p.m. at Staley Wesleyan Church, with Rev. Alvin Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after that service at the church.

Mr. Kidd was the son of William B. and Bertha Lambert Kidd, Sr. He was a native of Chatham County, a retired farmer and member of Staley Wesleyan Church.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Phillips Kidd; sister, Mary K. Stanley of Thomasville; brothers, W. A. Kidd of Randleman, L. M. "Bud" Kidd Archie Kidd, both of Liberty; step-children, Sue B. Melton of Summerfield, Steven C. Bristow of Siler City; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Staley Wesleyan Church, P O Box 6, Staley, NC 27355.

EDWIN CHAPIN BURNS

Edwin Chapin Burns, 86, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009.

Ed was born in Pittsboro, NC on April 17, 1923 and was preceded in death by his parents, William David and Mary Arlena (Turrentine) Burns, and his first wife Jean (Hackney) Burns of 46 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of North Carolina State University majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Ed worked as an engineer at Western Electric, was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, attended Faith Missionary Church, and volunteered at Community North Hospital for 19 years. Ed loved to play bridge, was an avid golfer, and enjoyed spending time with friends.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 10 years, Evelyn (Hawkins) Burns; a daughter, Susan Elizabeth (Mitch) Lecrone; a son, Michael Edwin (Pamela) Burns; a step-daughter, Constance Marie (Steven) Staley; a step-son, Craig Richard (Susan) Courtney; four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one great grandchild; two step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Mattie Lee (Jack) Miller.

Visitation was held Friday, November 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Harry W. Moore Funeral Care, 8151 Allisonville Rd. The Memorial Service was held at Faith Missionary Church, 9125 N. College Avenue at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, with Pastor Tom Macy officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Ed’s name to ALS.

SALLIE HILL WILLIAMS

Sallie Hill Williams, 88, of 180 Lakey Siding Road, Robbins, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at her home.

funeral service were held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 23, 2009 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Rev. James Stalnaker and Rev. Clarence Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Van Williams and her parents, John and Flora Jones Hill. She was church treasurer for sixteen years, taught Sunday School, was a member of the United Methodist Women, and sang in the church choir.

Surviving are daughters: Elizabeth Ritter and husband, Avery of Robbins, Brenda Beane of Robbins, Vanlene Nelson and husband, Keith of Robbins; sister, Evie Reynolds of Robbins; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Kennedy Funeral Home, all other times at the home.

MARY MANESS WESLEY PAYSEUR

Mary Maness Wesley Payseur, 93, of 410 Greenhill Drive, Siler City, died Thursday (11-19-09) at the home of her daughter in Siler City.

She was a native of Randolph County, a retired teacher and missionary of many years. She was born September 19, 1916, the daughter of Frank and Emmer English Maness.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Browns Chapel United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Keith Nanny. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Surviving are her daughter, Carol Davidson and husband Tim of Siler City; son, James Payseur and wife Daisy of Charlotte; grandchildren, Cecelia Payseur, Dustin Payseur, Kara Davidson Dawson, Daniel Dawson and James Davidson.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hall-Wynne, Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro.

Arrangements were under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service – Griffin Chapel of Pittsboro.

DOROTHY ANDREWS HALL

Dorothy Andrews Hall, 86, of Graham, died Wednesday (11-11-09).

Funeral services were held Saturday, (11-14-09) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Hospice Chaplin, Carolyn Burris officiating. Burial followed in Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Hall was a native of Burlington, a member of West End United Methodist Church, and attended the First Wesleyan Church in Burlington. She was a member of the Eastern Star Ruth Chapter 7, Hyattsville, MD. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie M. Hall; grandson, Bobby Lee Donald, Jr.; sister, Irene Fagg; brothers, Weldon Andrews, James Andrews; mother, Ava Maness Andrews Murray and father, Thomas Weldon Andrews.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Andrews Hall Glenn of Yuma, AZ and Lakebay, WA; sister, Myrtle Andrews Switzer of Seabrook, MD; three granddaughters, ten great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Hospice Chaplin, Carolyn Burris officiating. Burial will follow in Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance and Caswell Counties, P O Box 2122, Burlington, NC 27216.

ANNIE REBECCA GIBSON

Annie Rebecca Gibson, 89, of Franklinville, died Sunday, (11-15-09) at Randolph Health & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday (11-18-09) at Brush Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Jeff Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gibson was the daughter of Alexander M. and Lela M. Green Dixon, and a native of Randolph County. She graduated from Bennett High School, was a home maker and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Gibson.

Survivors include a daughter, Dianne G. Presnell of Franklinville; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

MARY CATHERINE CROSS GUNTER

Mary Catherine Cross Gunter, 92, of Moncure, died Monday (11-09-09) at Cambridge Hills in Pittsboro.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday (11-12-09) at Buckhorn United Methodist Church in Corinth with Rev. Janet Balasko officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gunter was a native of Chatham County and the daughter of the late James Evrette Cross and Yula Dickens Cross. She retired as a bookkeeper from Heileg- Meyers Furniture and also worked for Sprott Brothers Furniture. She was a member of Buckhorn United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the U.M.W., choir, and was church pianist for 67 years. She was also a member of the Cape Fear Community Club, Rainbow Club, and the Moncure Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxilliary. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Gunter; son, James Donald Gunter; and brother, James E. Cross, Jr.

Survivors include daughters, Nancy Gunter Walden fo Sanford, Mary Ann Gunter Perkins of Moncure; son, Gerald “Jerry” Wayne Gunter of New Hill; sisters, Hazel Cross Palmer of Moncure, Madge Cross Brison of Madison, WI, Helen Cross Honeycutt of Spring, TX; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Buckhorn United Methodist Church, c/o Susan Poe, 3503 Corinth Road, Moncure, NC 27559.

JOHN ROSS DOWDY

John Ross Dowdy, 86, of Goldston, died Sunday (11-08-09) at his home.

A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Friday (11-13-09) with burial in Lee Memorial Gardens in Sanford.

A native of Chatham County, Mr. Dowdy was the son of Morton and Jossie Dowdy. He was employed by Alton Elkins Lumber for more than 50 years, and was a member of the Siler City congregation of Jehovah’s Winesses. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Elmus, Lucille, Liddell, Raphael, Edward, Paul, Linwood, Max and Hazel Wicker.

Survivors include his wife, Larzell Tysor Dowdy; children, John Ross, Jr, Wallace, Jean Brown, Sylvia Dowdy, Patricia Hicklen, Kathy Dunlap, Susan Medlin; sister, Levoina Wicker; 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

CHARLES JORDAN

Mr. Charles Jordan of Siler City died Saturday (11-14-09) at the V.A. Hospital in Durham.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (11-18-09) at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jordan was a member of Lambert Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a trustee, steward, and held other positions. He worked for Horney Brothers for over 39 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jessie S. Jordan of the home; children, Linda Wade, Darell Jordan, both of Greensboro, Jimmie Jordan, Gregory Jordan, Sandra Jordan, all of Siler City, Johnny Jordan, Richard Jordan, both of Atlanta, GA, Sharon Johnson of Williamsboro, NJ; sisters, Carol Spinks of Sanford, Mary Spinks of Coleridge, Wilma NcNeil, Nancy Spinks, both of Asheboro, Martha Taylor, Lautor Alamba, Maxine Patterson, all of Liberty, Edna Caviness of Rochester, NY, Mildred Brooks of Siler City; brothers, Rev. Arlene Cheek of Coleridge, Richard Green or Rochester, NY, Everette Tysor of Siler City; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

DORIS GOODE WHITE

Doris Goode White, 83, of 160 SS Edwards Road, Siler City died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Chatham Hospital, Inc.

Mrs. White was born October 26, 1926, the daughter of Julian L. and Annie Walton Goode. She was a native of Guilford County, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Siler City, and co-owner of the Siler City Hardware Store.

She is survived by her husband, Robert R. White, Sr.; two sons, Robert "Ronnie" White, Jr. and wife, Hilda of Siler City, Steve White and wife, Jill of Lake Lure; two sisters, Annie Laurie McCommons of Albemarle, Peggie G. Dunn of Siler City; one brother, James L. "Jimmy" Goode and wife, Katherine of Longview, TX; granddaughters, Erin White Carter and husband, Eric of Wilmington, Tiffany White Whitt and husband, Jamie of Bear Creek; great-grandchildren, Sawyer White, Cody Whitt, Tanner Whitt, Campbell Carter; and special friend, Sarah Smith.

The memorial service was held Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City with Rev. Clyde Denny officiating. The family received friends, immediately following the memorial service at the church and other times at the home of the son, Ronnie White, 914 West Sixth Street, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P O Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344; or to a charity of donor's choice.

MARION LOUISE HARLEY MANDUSIC

Marion Louise Harley Mandusic, 84, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (11-04-09) at her home. She was born in New York City, NY the daughter of the late William and Margaret Hackett Harley.

The funeral Mass was held Friday, (11-06-09) at 11 a.m. at St. Julia Catholic Parish with Father Jim Fukes officiating. Burial was in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mandusic was a native of Manhatten, NY, a member of St. Catherine Parrish in New York and had worked as an accounts payable clerk.

Survivors include sons, Nicholas Mandusic and William Mandusic, both of Pittsboro.

FLOYD McKINLEY ELLIS

Floyd McKinley Ellis, 81, died Friday, (10-30-09) at his home in Chatham County.

Graveside service was held Tuesday, (11-10-09) at 1 p.m. at Elk Run Cemetery in Elkton, Virginia.

Mr. Ellis was a native Virginian, the son of Clarence McKinley Ellis and Ana Sanderson Ellis. A graduate of the University of Virginia, he attended graduate and law school there. He retired as an insurance executive. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club, and mayor of Elkton, Va. in the 1950’s.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Ellis; daughters, Melanie Rantala of Seattle, Wa., Julie Ellis-Safriet of Wake Forest; son, Brian Sanderson Ellis of Atlanta, Ga.; and one grandchild.
