AARON WESLEY HUDSON
Aaron Wesley Hudson, 16, of Silk Hope was born August 16, 1993 and was taken to be with his Heavenly Father on December 24, 2009.
A loving son, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, Aaron was raised on the family home-place in Silk Hope. He was a junior and an honor student at Jordan-Matthews High School where he was a member of the baseball team. Aaron was one of the strongest, most passionate, responsible and kindest young men and he had a contagious smile for everyone he met.
Everyday for Aaron was full of life as he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the lake and working on the farm with his cows and horses. He also loved riding four wheelers and dirt bikes, go-cart racing, snow boarding, playing baseball, basketball and football.
Aaron was preceded in death by his grandfather, George A. "Toby" Hudson, Jr. He is survived by his parents, Debralee and Danny Hudson; his sister, Mikaela and brother, Brandon Andrew, all of the home; his grandparents, Rachel C. Hudson of Siler City, Ronnie and Hazel L. Moon of Snow Camp; aunts and uncles, Melodye Hudson and Craig Barth of Silk Hope, Donna and Jamie Harris of Snow Camp, Gina and Gary Causey, Stephen and Kris Moon, all of Snow Camp; special companion, Allison Lindley; numerous cousins and great-aunts and uncles.
The family received friends Monday, December 28, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 2 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting with Pastor Ricky Sessoms and Rev. Eddie McClure officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
VIRGINIA HOUGH
ASHEBORO - Virginia “Ginny” Brown Hough of Asheboro passed away Christmas morning, 2009, at Randolph Hospital.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at the First United Methodist Church in Siler City. Interment will follow at a later date. The family received visitors in the fellowship hall following the service.
Ginny was born September 4, 1926 in Robbins, to the late George Washington Brown and Sarah Jane Garner Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Hough, two sisters, Maty Smith, Mazie Burke, and four brothers, John Brown, Lester Brown, Lacy Brown, and Beecher Brown.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Muse; one sister, Mearl Bruner of Lakeland, FL; her beloved nieces and nephews, and step-grandson, Chris Morton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

GRACE LOFLIN
Mrs. Grace Daniel Loflin, age 92, of NC Hwy #109S, Denton, died Saturday, December 26, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Lineberry United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Derald Smith and Rev. Kelly Creekmur. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Loflin was born May 10, 1917 in Davidson County to Cleveland Lee Daniel and Nora Alice Myers Daniel. She graduated from Denton High School in the class of 1934 and was a homemaker and member of Lineberry United Methodist Church. She was married to Fletcher Loflin who died May 3, 1960. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lena Bean, Betty Davis, Effie Abee and a brother Paul Daniel.
She is survived by daughters, Daynese Loflin Loflin and husband Jerry of Dentonm Faydene Loflin of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Teresa L. Flowers and husband Todd of New London, Amy Loflin of Winston-Salem, Jerry Loflin of Denton, Lt. Jason Nunn and wife Kristin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and a great grandchild, Katelyn Grace Flowers.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Briggs Funeral Home and other times, at the residence.
Mrs. Loflin was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed the outdoors, where she loved working in her yard, flowers and vegetable garden.

LOUIS “CHUNK” HICKS
Louis "Chunk" Hicks, 73, of 511 Elk Lane, Siler City died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Hicks was born April 30, 1936, the son of J. Claude and Minnie Jane Stanley Hicks. He was a native of Chatham County, a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church and the Siler City Moose Lodge, where he served on the Board of Governors. He drove the fuel oil truck for Central Carolina Farmers Exchange and later operated Riverside Auto Sales. Chunk enjoyed Nascar racing and working on old cars. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Hart Hicks.
He is survived by one son, Randy L. Hicks; granddaughter, Melody Jean Hicks of Pendleton, OR; and a niece, Linda Hicks Dhanens of Bennett.
The family received friends Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City; and other times at the home of the son, 614 East Finch Street, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Ed Lowder officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery, Bear Creek.
JIMMIE THOMAS
Jimmie Thomas, 85, passed away at his home on December 26, 2009, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Chatham County on December 18, 1924, Jimmie spent most of his life in Pittsboro. He was the son of the late Eva Hearn Thomas and George Newton Thomas.
During World War II, Jimmie served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Italy. Upon returning home, he was employed by Chatham Mills, where he worked for 27 years. He then opened Thomas Brothers Furniture Company with his brother Julian. After leaving the furniture store he opened Jim’s Antiques, where he sold old coins, used books, furniture, and antiques. After closing the store he worked for Allied Chemical Corporation until he reached retirement.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Sue Partin Thomas; one daughter, Dana Thomas Barnes and her husband, Bobby Barnes of Cary; grandchildren, Meghan Barnes Thornton and her husband, Samuel Thornton of Carrboro, and Kaitlyn Barnes of Cary. He was predeceased by his brothers, George, Julian, and Dewey Thomas, and by his sister, Annie Bett Mendenhall.
Jimmie will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his wonderful sense of humor, love for animals, the pride he took in his yard, and his dedication to the Hanks Chapel community and church, of which he was a member for 58 years.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Reverend Bob Wachs at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Hanks Chapel Christian Church in Pittsboro, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to either Hanks Chapel Christian Church, PO Box 366, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to UNC Hospice, PO Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

ERIN BRETT LINDSAY-CALKINS
Erin Brett Lindsay-Calkins, 26, of Efland, NC died Tuesday December 22, 2009 following a car/train collision. Her son Nicholas Aedon Lindsay, 5, was also killed. Her four month old daughter, Aven Brooke Lindsay-Calkins, survived the accident.
Born November 16, 1983 in Raleigh, NC, Erin attended Fuquay-Varina Elementary, West Lake Elementary and Middle Schools, and was home-schooled high school. She earned an associate degree from Central Carolina Community College in Pittsboro, NC and a BA in Women’s Studies from UNC-Chapel Hill. Erin recently took maternity leave from work as a research assistant at Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health, Duke University Medical Center.
People meeting Erin were always struck by her physical beauty. Those who knew Erin saw her inner beauty as far more striking. Erin practiced compassion in her daily life, always ready to listen to anyone troubled or to save an injured animal in need. She volunteered as a crisis hotline responder with Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center and with her family’s animal rescue program. Growing up, Erin was active in the 4H horse program. She was a talented writer and artist. She loved the simple things of nature. Erin was totally devoted to her son Nicholas and newborn daughter Aven. She found joy in her life with husband Mike, her true soul-mate. Her sister Brittany remembers Erin as the “best sissiepoo” ever.
Survivors include husband Michael Curtis Lindsay-Calkins of Efland, NC, formerly of Manteca, Ca.; daughter Aven Brooke Lindsay-Calkins of the home; parents, Steve and Nadean Ferguson Lindsay of Chapel Hill; sister, Brittany Megan Lindsay of Chapel Hill; grandparents, James and Gerry Lindsay of Vass, NC; parents-in-law, Curtis and Diane Calkins of Mocksville, NC; sisters-in-law, Sarah Calkins and Christina Redfearn and husband Nick of Mocksville; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. Preceding her in death were grandparents, Thomas and Mildred Ferguson of Florence, SC.
Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29th, at United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 MLK Blvd./Historic Airport Rd, Chapel Hill. Friends and family were invited to fellowship following the service at the home of parents, Steve and Nadean Lindsay, Chapel Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center, PO Box 1105, Pittsboro, NC 27312; or to a benevolence fund set up at State Employees Credit Union which will be used for a scholarship and care for surviving daughter Aven.

NICHOLAS AEDON LINDSAY
Nicholas Aedon Lindsay, 5, of Efland died Tuesday, December 22, 2009 following a car/train collision. His loving mother, Erin Brett Lindsay-Calkins, was also killed. His four month old sister, Aven Brooke Lindsay-Calkins, survived the impact.
Born January 18, 2004 in Chapel Hill, Nicholas lived a full life during his five short years, touching many hearts and making many friends along the way. He found joy in nature, collecting leaves to paste everywhere and rescuing insects and small animals from harm’s way. A vegetarian by age three, Nicholas would only eat “plant meat”. He proudly said his role in the family’s dog rescue program was to teach rescued pups about kids.
Nicholas loved superheroes, Sponge Bob, Carolina Tar Heels, beach trips, and being a big brother to Aven. He was inseparable from his mother. Nicholas experienced other places in the world on some great family vacations. Upon returning from Hawaii, Nicholas concluded he was part Hawaiian as he loved the islands so much. He attended Amity Methodist Church Nursery School and was enrolled in kindergarten at Central Elementary, Hillsborough, NC.
In addition to his sister, Nicholas is survived by his father Michael Curtis Lindsay-Calkins of Efland, formerly of Manteca, Calif.; maternal grandparents, Steve and Nadean Ferguson Lindsay of Chapel Hill; paternal grandparents, Curt and Diane Calkins of Mocksville, NC; plus loving great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29th at the United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 MLK Blvd/Historic Airport Road, Chapel Hill. Following the service, friends and family were invited to fellowship at the home of grandparents, Steve and Nadean Lindsay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a benevolence fund for surviving father and sister through any State Employees Credit Union branch. Funds will be divided between a college fund for Aven and daily needs.
A deep thinker for his young age, Nicholas treasured what’s important in life – family, friends, and God’s creations. Treasure what really matters. Life is too short.

RUTH J. ZAUMSEIL
Ruth J. Zaumseil of The Arbor at Galloway Ridge died Wednesday (12-16-09)
Survivors include four children and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.
BOBBY JOE FRAZIER
Bobby Joe Frazier, 52, of Chapel Hill, died Tuesday, (12-15-09).
Graveside service was held Friday, (12-18-19) at 2:30 p.m.. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Dale Morgan officiating.
Mr. Frazier was the son of Clyde Thomas and Lois Brown Frazier. He was a native of Chatham County, and attended the Church of God in Hillsborough. He was employed as a CNA for 20 years with Amedisys Home Health and worked for 12 years with Residential Services, Inc.
Survivors include a daughter, Lois Marie Frazier of Chapel Hill; son, Bobby Lee Frazier of Cape Coral, FL; parents, Leroy and Lois Brown White; sisters, Linda F. Smith of Siler City, Judy F. Beal of Bear Creek; brother, David C. Frazier of Bear Creek.
AVA LEE SPIVEY
Ava Lee Beal Spivey, 83, of Siler City died Tuesday, (12-15-09).
The funeral was held Friday, (12-18-09) at 11 a.m. at Meroney United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Spivey was the daughter of Percy and Grace Moore Beal. She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Meroney United Methodist Church, and retired from Chatham Hospital after 30 years of service as a CNA.
Survivors include her husband, Archie Spivey; sons, Archie Donald Spivey of Myrtle Beach, SC, Kermit F. Spivey of Siler City; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren
RICHARD (ANDY) ANDREW JOHNSON III
Richard (Andy) Andrew Johnson, III, 19, of Siler City died Friday, (12-18-09) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
The funeral services were held Tuesday (12-22-09) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson was the son of Angela Renee Johnson and the late Richard “Ricky” Andrew Johnson, II. He was a native of Siler City and employed as a construction worker.
Survivors include his mother, Angela Renee Johnson of the home; sisters, Ashley Johnson, Hannah Johnson of the home; brothers, Kaelan Johnson, Brandon Johnson of the home; grandparents, Marvin and Betty Manness and Georgia Rogers, all of Siler City.
