JANE HACKNEY COLQUITT
Jane Hackney Colquitt, 69, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2010, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Jane was born in Siler City July 26, 1940, to Alfred and Dorothy Hackney. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, David "Nip" Colquitt; sons, David Colquitt (Sheri) of Raleigh, Joe Colquitt (Lynn) of McDonough, GA; daughter, Beth Dowell (Gary) of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Caroline Colquitt, Chrissy Colquitt, Austin Colquitt, Adam Dowell, Cate Dowell; brothers, Al Hackney (Betty) of Whiteville, and Bill Hackney of Mooresville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Duke Raleigh Cancer Center for their extraordinary care and support, as well as her many friends for their thoughtful visits and letters during her illness.
Visitation with the family was held Friday, January 8, 2010 from 1 to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. funeral service was held Friday, January 8, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Siler City, 1101 W. Raleigh Street, where she was a long-time member and where all three of her children were married. Reverends Clyde Denny, Kim Lamb and David Clift officiated. Burial was in Chatham Memorial Park.

LUCILLE ANDREWS MOFFITT
Lucille Andrews Moffitt, age 92, of Staley, died Sunday, January 10, 2010 at her residence.
Mrs. Moffitt was born April 17, 1917 the daughter of Richard Worth and Cora Bell Vestal Andrews.
Mrs. Moffitt was a native of Chatham County, a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church and also a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel E. Moffitt
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Moffitt Scarlette and husband, Tommy of Staley; grandson, Lynn Scarlette and wife, Marie of Bear Creek; granddaughters, Cathy McLeod and husband, Robert of Staley, Tammy McPherson and husband, Eric of Snow Camp; great grandchildren, Holly and Lindsey Scarlette, Christopher, Braysen and Allie McLeod and Abby McPherson.
The family received friends Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Road, Siler City with Rev. Scott Faw and Rev. Ken Harris officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MRS. THELMA BEATRICE YARBOUGH
On Saturday, December 5, 2009, Mrs. Thelma Beatrice Yarbough departed this earth to be with her heavenly father, ending her life’s journey. “Aunt Bea” as known to most, was many things to many people – a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a teacher, a minister, a mentor, a friend. She was a woman of God and served Him with all her being. She taught her children and those who she came into contact with to love unconditionally, always forgive, and never hold grudges. She always spoke of serving God first and how love supersedes all. She always made you feel like you were part of the family. She was a “Good Woman”.
Born Thelma Beatrice Headen, the sixth of seven children on January 26, 1947 in Goldston, NC, to the late Clifton and Leola Reaves Headen. Preceding her in death is her sister, Kay Francis Lattimore.
Aunt Bea graduated from Horton Senior High School in Pittsboro, NC in the class of 1965. She received her Bachelors Degree in Religious Education from the York Pastoral and Evangelist School of Ministries in Hillsborough, NC. She was a faithful member of Deliverance Tabernacle Fellowship Church in Hillsborough, NC where she served as Director of the Children’s Church Ministry, a member of the Voices of Deliverance, The Mothers Board and several other committees within the church. She also worked with several outreach ministries. Always aimed at introducing children to Christianity, her work was tireless and always ongoing in the community. She helped fighting to keep drugs out of the community because she knew that it destroyed. She worked along with members from Abundant Life Church to help form the Fairview’s Children Bible Club which always met on Thursdays.
She worked in Orange County and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Systems where she worked with special needs children. She tutored and taught numerous children over her twenty-plus years in the school system. She also was the founder of the Greater Voices of Northern Orange.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, James Yarbough III of Pittsboro, NC. From this union, three children were born: Tonya D. Yarbough of Burlington, NC, Cherlyn L. Cash of Hillsborough, NC, and James A. Yarbough of Mebane, NC; three adopted daughters, Bernice Yarbough McAdoo of Hillsborough, NC, Zena Yarbough of Chapel Hill, NC and Catherine Mebane of Baldwin City, Kansas; god-daughter, Crystal Hatley of Norfolk, VA. She was also a foster mother for several years for several children. Two sisters, Ethel Jones (Edward) and Emeline Grissom of Durham, NC; three brothers, Clifton Headen, Jr. (Frances) of Rockville, Maryland; Sylvester Headen (Barbara) and Thomas Headen (Vanessa) of Durham, NC; a half-sister, Beatrice Taylor of Chatham County; eight grandchildren, Damien, Dynasty, Valente’, Devante’, Alisha, Nolan, Trevon and Blake; best friends, Eileen Williamson, and caregiver, Jacqueline Mayo; in-laws, Kathleen Monroe (Bernard) of Clarkston, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
JOSEPH EDWARD LOWE
Mr. Joseph Edward Lowe, 92, of Pittsboro, died Tuesday, (12-29-09) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, (12-31-09) at Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham with Rev. Forrest Gale presiding. He was entombed in the mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Lowe was a native of Durham County, born July 5, 1917 to Edward and Lila Durham Shipp Lowe. He was a member of Lowes Grove Baptist Church, served in the US Army during World War II, and retired from Exxon-Mobil.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Buck Lowe; daughters, Jo Ann Mason of Pittsboro, Kay Rierson of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
ROMIE REID POE
Romie Reid Poe, 77, of Bear Creek died Tuesday (12-29-09) at his home.
Graaveside services were held at 3 p.m. Friday (01-01-2010) at Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bear Creek.
Mr. Poe, a native of Chatham County, was the son of the late Romie Wilson Poe and Maggie Beal Poe. He was a residential construction carpenter, and a member of Meroney United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by brothers James Poe and Clarence Poe, sister, Beva Lee Poe Thomas, and a nephew Louie Thomas.
Survivors include two sons, Dexter Poe of Siler City, Lee Poe of Maitland, MO; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

ANNE LAMPHERE WILLIAMSON
Anne Lamphere Williamson, 82, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (12-26-09) at her home.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (01-02-2010) at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill with Rev. Steve McElroy officiating.
Mrs. Williamson was born August 10, 1927 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Col. Theodore and Elsie Krokus. She was a graduate of Ft. Hamilton High School, Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing, and was active in University United Methodist Church and Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, the Garden Club of Chapel Hill, and the Swim & Croquet Club of Fearrington Village.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Alton J. Lamphere, Dr. Richard Williamson, and brothers, John Charles and Theodore.
Survivors include her children, JoAnn of Bethesda, MD, Jeffrey of Fuquay-Varina; brother, Robert Krokus of Arlington, VA; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, University United Methodist Church, or the NC Botanical Garden.
PEGGY HUNT TULLIS
Mrs. Peggy HuntTullis, 75, of Pittsboro, died Friday (12-25-09) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pittsboro Seventh-day Adventist Church conducted by Pastor Ken Blake and Pastor Louis Badehorst. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
Born in Marion, IN, she was raised by her mother and step-father, Dorothy Houston Stinson and Marion Stinson. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in of Pittsboro, holding various offices over the years. She was preceded in death by her mother, step-father, and a grandson, William Hoffman.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy C. Tullis; daughter, Lucinda Hoffman of Pittsboro; son, Dennis Tullis of Pittsboro; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
ALFRED R. McNEILL
Alfred Ray McNeill, 71, of Ramseur, died Tuesday (12-29-09) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday (01-02-09) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel in Ramseur with Dr. Rodney Otwell officiating. Burial followed at Union Grove Baptist Church in Seagrove.
Mr. McNeill was a native of Randolph County and a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Brown McNeill of the home; daughter, Lessie McNeill of Siler City; sons, Ronnie McNeill, Roy McNeill, both of Ramseur; sister, Linda M. Rich of Greensboro; brothers, James C. McNeill and Alton T. McNeill, both of Ramseur.
KALEB JOSHUA BRIGMAN
Master Kaleb Joshua Brigman, infant, of Moncure, was born and died Tuesday, (12-29-09) at UNC Hospitals.
The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (01-03-2010) at Chatham United Methodist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Micah and Wanda Whitford Brigman of Moncure; a brother, Cody Brigman; grandparents, Jim-my and Cheryl Wolfe of Moncure, David and Christy Whitford of Sanford, Donna Whitford of New York; great-grandparents, Eileen Westbrook of Burlington, Mac Westbrook of Florida, Jack and Marie Wolfe of Moncure, Tommy and Louella Wilson of Sanford, and Louwanna Jones of New York.
HUBERT EDWARD TANT
Hubert Edward Tant, 78, of Pittsboro, died Friday, (01-01-2010) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Memorial services were held Monday, (01-04-2010) at 3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Tant was born January 31, 1931, the son of Charles E. and Addie White Tant.
He was a native of Wake County and was previously employed as a security guard with Townsend's. He was of the Baptist faith and a Marine veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Holleman Pope Tant; daughter, Sonja Ruth Huff of Fayetteville; son, Hubert E. Tant, Jr. of Willow Springs; step-daughter, Jill Pope Cagle of Pittsboro; step-sons, Michael A. Pope of Knightdale, Victor L. Pope of Sanford; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren, three great- great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
JIM GARRETT
Jim Garrett, 80, of Liberty died Friday, (01-01-2010) at his home.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, (01-05-2010) at 11 a.m. at Liberty First Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Harrington officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Garrett was the son of the late George Thomas and Joy Cook Garrett. He was the owner and operator of Garrett’s Florist and Greenhouse. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Thomas Edward Garrett and one sister, Edith Arrington.
Surviving is his wife, Roberta Forsyth Garrett; and one sister, Doris Pugh.
JASON TODD MORRIS
Jason Todd Morris, 30, of Siler City died Monday, (01-04-09).
The funeral will be Thursday, (01-07-2010) at 2 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church, with Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Morris was born July 5, 1979, the son of Donnie and Wanda Thrift Morris. He was born in Orange County, and was the owner of A Clear Choice Glass Company. He enjoyed going to the beach, riding four wheelers and snow skiing. Jason loved to build and had built his own home.
He is survived by fiancée, Cecile Teague of Siler City; one daughter, Kelsey Morris of the home; mother and step-father, Wanda Thrift Ellis and husband, Luke of Siler City; father and step-mother, Donnie Morris and wife, Penny of Siler City; one sister, Haley Morris of Siler City; brothers, Michael, Joey, Nicholas Morris, Jeremy Ellis all of Siler City; and grandmother, Vivian Thrift of Siler City.
