GARLAND EUGENE TISDALE

Garland Eugene Tisdale, 71, of Siler City died Sunday, (01-24-2010) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

The graveside service will be Wednesday, (01-27-2010) at 2 p.m. at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mark Hurt and Brother Green officiating.

Mr. Tisdale was born March 25, 1938, the son of Leon G. and Dixie Jacobs Tisdale, Sr. He was a native of Richmond County and a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was retired from Basic Machinery and a member of Calvary Holiness Church in Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leon G. Tisdale, Jr., and sister, Mary Bryant.

Survivors include his wife, Faydine Ellis Tisdale; daughter, Wendy Tisdale; sons, Mark Tisdale, Chris Tisdale all of Hawaii; sister, Vera Helen Moody of Rockingham; step-sons, Thomas Edward Foushee of Southern Pines, Clarence Eugene Foushee of Pittsboro, Kenneth Ray Foushee of Ramseur; step-daughter, Linda "Susie" Moody of Siler City; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday, (01-27-2010) from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, 1414 E. Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

REV. JAMES FRANK PERRY

Rev. James Frank Perry, 79, of Hampstead, died Sunday (01-24-2010) at the home of his son in Sanford.

Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday (01-25-09) at Bethany Springs Church of the Bride Cemetery.

Rev. Perry was born January 7, 1931 in Cook County, IL, to the late William Perry and Dorothy Mae Bugbee Perry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Kae Ellerman Perry; sons, Marcus Shawn Perry of Albuquerque, NM, Michael Quinn Perry, Christopher Kirk Perry, both of Sanford, James Nathan Gross of Graham; daughter, Rebecca Trull of Sanford; brother, William Perry of Texas; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to U.N.C. Hospice, PO Box 1007, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

MISS CYNTHIA J. MOFFITT

Miss Cynthia J. Moffitt, 60, of Sanford died Wednesday (01-20-2010) at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (01-25-2010) at First Missionary Baptist Church, Siler City, with Rev. Barry R. Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Miss Moffitt was a graduate of Chatham High School.

Survivors include her children, DeBorah Moffitt, Leander Moffitt, both of Siler City, Tamekia Watson of Sanford, Whitney Jones of the home; sisters, Linda Siler, Juanita “Kim” Wiley, both of Siler City; brothers, Walter Moffitt of Ramseur, Dalton Moffitt, Thomas Darise Wiley, both of Siler City; and five grandchildren.

MARTHA COTTON CRAVEN PEOPLES

Mrs. Martha Cotton Craven Peoples, 54, of Bear Creek died Saturday (01-23-2010) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (01-29-2010) at Lambert’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 12 noon at the church, prior to the service.

MARY FRANCES HAMMER HALL

Mary Frances Hammer Hall, 71, of Asheboro died Wednesday (01-20-2010) at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday (01-23-2010) at First Baptist Church with Dr. John S. Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Hall was a native of Chatham County, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Asheboro.

Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Hall of Raleigh; sons, Glenn Hall of High Point, Philip Hall of Asheboro; mother, Kathleen Hammer of Siler City; brother, Charles Hammer of Chattanooga, TN; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 133 North Church Street, Asheboro, NC 27203; or Community Home Care and Hospice, 147 MacArthur Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.

JEAN MARION VANBENTHUYSEN

Miss Jean Marion Vanbenthuysen, 105, of Pittsboro, died Saturday (01-23-2010) at Pittsboro Christian Village.

Graveside rites were conducted by Mr. Gerald Baker at 10 a.m. Wednesday, (01-27-2010) at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.

Born in Newark, NJ, May 13, 1904, she was the daughter of Robert Seaward and Jenny Smith Vanbenthuysen. She was a retired insurance clerk.

No immediate survivors.

ROSIE CULBERSON TYSON

Rosie Culberson Tyson, 70, of Siler City died Monday, (01-25-2010) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services will be held Friday, (01-29-2010) at 10 a.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. with a graveside service in Lakeland Memorial Park, Monroe.

Mrs. Tyson was born May 25, 1939, the daughter of William Delacy and Grace Jennings Culberson. She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Glendale Hosiery and attended Siler City Gospel Hall.
Survivors include sons, Gary Tyson of Monroe, Dennis Tyson of Alexandria, VA;
sisters, Pauline Odell of West End, Jane Eubanks of Pittsboro, Naomi Beal of Siler City; brothers, Tommy and Jerry Culberson of Siler City; step-sons, Don and David Tyson of Monroe; step-daughters, Linda Mullis of Monroe, Cathy Smith of Monroe; one granddaughter and fifteen step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, (01-28-2010) from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home..
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to West Chatham Relay for Life, % Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

RUSSELL CECIL DILLARD

Russell Cecil Dillard, 74, of Moncure died Monday (01-25-2010) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday (01-28-2010) at Moncure United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mike Clements officiating.

Mr. Dillard was born August 11, 1935 in Blakeley, WV, the son of the late Frank W. Dillard and Myrtle Johnson Dillard Huddleston. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hattie E. Dillard; sister, Bernice Huddleston, and brother Grover Dillard. He was a retired plumber.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan D. Cotten of Moncure, Marsha Pettys of Raleigh, Pam Smith of Sanford, Vanessa Mills of Sanford; step-daughters, Janet Reece of Sanford, Gail Brown of Southern Pines; sisters, Naoma Williams of Bell, WV, Louise Rucker of Pond Gap, WV; brothers, Burt Dillard, Ira Dillard, both of Pond Gap, WV; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home, 164 Jones Street, Moncure, following the services.

RET. COLONEL (USAF) THOMAS EDISON IVEY

Sumter, SC - Ret. Colonel (USAF) Thomas Edison Ivey, 87, husband of Mary Frances Rumley Ivey died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at his home.

Born in Bear Creek, NC, he was the son of the late June Jackson Ivey and Mary Etta Dunn Ivey.

Colonel Ivey was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church in Bear Creek. He was a retired U. S. Air Force Colonel with 32 years of service and served in World War II and Korea. He was also a member of the Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association, the Air Force Association, and the Shepherd’s Center of Sumter.

Surviving are his wife of Sumter, SC; one son, David Jackson Ivey and wife Lea Lea of Oxford; two daughters, Linda Foshee and husband Randy of Manassas, VA, Barbara Gail Harris and husband Harry of Sumter; one sister, Joan Tillman of Siler City; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Neil Ivey and a sister, Kathleen Morrow.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday (01-24-2010) in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on March 8, 2010.

The family received friends following the service in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305; or to the Air Force Aid Society, 241 18th Street South, Suite #202, Arlington, VA 22202.

ELIZABETH OVERBY MARSHALL

Elizabeth Overby Marshall, 88, peacefully passed away in her sleep at the Golden Living Retirement Village in Marietta, Georgia on January 19, 2010.
She was born in Brickhaven, North Carolina, raised her two children with her husband Woodrow Marshall in Norfolk, Virginia and spent her last years in the care of her son in Marietta, Georgia. She was a registered nurse and a lifelong member of Moncure United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and reading.

She was preceded in death by her daughter June Marshall Bryant. Her survivors include a son, John Marshall and wife, Kendra; a brother, Don Overby and wife, Nadine; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be at Moncure United Methodist Church on February 6, 2010 @ 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Moncure United Methodist Church.

TESSIE ABBOTT ELKINS HOOPER FOLEY

Tessie Abbott Elkins Hooper Foley, 90, of Siler City went home to be with the Lord Thursday, January 21, 2010.

Mrs. Foley was born March 28, 1919, the daughter of Rufus and Lula Mae Mabe Abbott. She was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was a good Christian lady and of the Baptist faith. Tessie was preceded in death by her husbands, Leroy Elkins, Paul Hooper, Robert Foley and an infant son, Earl Lynn Elkins.

She is survived by two sons, Clay Lee Elkins of Greensboro, Clyde S. Elkins and wife, Margaret of Pleasant Garden; step-daughter, Sylvia Stanley of Simpsonville, SC; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

The graveside service was held Sunday, January 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 1278 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. The family received friends immediately after the graveside service.

EARL FRANKLIN PARKER

Earl Franklin Parker was born December 13, 1915 in Chatham County, and died January 22, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnson and Elector Parker, brother Clifton and sister, Ola Mae. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Copeland Parker; sons, Earl F. Parker, Jr. and wife Christie Staley Parker, Terry Copeland; sister, Johnnie P, Carpenter; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Parker served in Germany during WW II receiving a Bronze Medal and Good Conduct Award. He was a member of Bells Baptist Church in Apex, where he served as teacher of the Men’s Fellowship Class from 1949-1993, and was a deacon and past chairman of the same. He was a trustee, and chaired the building committee when the new church was built.

Mr. Parker farmed until his property was acquired for Jordan Lake. He was a chairman of the New Hope Homeowner’s Association. He also served as Chief Magistrate and president of the NC Magistrates Association from 1978-1980. He served on the Chatham County School Board. He was a member and Master Masonic Lodges in Pittsboro. He has been a resident of Croasdaile Village Benevolent Fund.

Memorial services were held Sunday, January 24, 1020 at Croasdaile Village Retirement Community in the William Preston Few Chapel on campus. In lieu of flowers, gifts should be made to the Croasdaile Village Benevolent Fund.

Arrangements made by the Cremation Society of the Carolinas.
