EDNA GREGSON TAYLOR
Myrtle Beach, SC – Edna Gregson Taylor, 91, wife of the late Joseph Miller Taylor, died Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Covenant Towers in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
She was born April 25, 1918 in Siler City, NC, a daughter of the late Julius Clarence and Mabel Hadley Gregson. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Gregson Cooper, Nancy Gregson Perry; and two great nephews, Winder Josephus Edwards, Jr., and Joel Kirk Budd, Jr.
Ms. Taylor attended Greensboro College, and graduated from Kings College in Raleigh, NC. She and her husband were the former owners and operators of Taylor Drug Store in Siler City. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Siler City.
Survivors include three nieces, Irene Cooper Edwards of Siler City, Nancy Perry Haywood of Concord, Julia Perry Budd of Wrightsville Beach; two great nieces, Rosemary Edwards Ericson of Ft. Myers, FL., Elizabeth Haywood Drucker of Bethesda, MD; and one great nephew, Joseph Taylor Budd of Pittsboro.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Siler City.

DAVID WARREN PHILLIPS, SR.
David Warren Phillips, Sr., 89, of 2992 Arthur Teague Road, Siler City died Sunday, January 31, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Phillips was born January 3, 1921 the son of David Franklin and Mattie (Andrews) Phillips. He was a native of Chatham County, a farmer and construction superintendent. He was an enlisted Navy veteran of WW II, assigned to the USS Albemarle, a seaplane tender that served in both the European and Pacific theatres. He was promoted to Aviation Chief Boatswaim Mate Gasoline Aviation and was made Chief Petty Officer. He was involved in underwater detonation to test for the effect of the atomic bomb on naval vessels. David enjoyed telling war stories, wood working, gardening, traveling and reading. He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher, former church superintendent and had held several offices. He had served as First Captain in the Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Davis Phillips and a daughter, JoDeane Phillips Coombs.
He is survived by two sons, David W. Phillips, Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Oak Island, Stephen D. Phillips of Siler City; grandchildren, Charles Glenn Phillips and wife, Laura of La Belle, FL, Jeremy Andrew Phillips of Oak Island, Evelyn Leigh Coombs of Wilmington, Charity Phillips White and husband, Jason of Siler City, Justin Davis Phillips of Siler City; son-in-law, Richard B. Coombs of Wilmington, and daughter-in-law, Pamela Clark Phillips of Siler City.
The family received friends Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, February 4, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City with Rev. Brian Wellborn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

PHOEBE LOUISE LINDLEY
Pheobe Louise Lindley, 61, of Center Church Road, Pittsboro, died Sunday January 31, 2010 at the Hospice Home of Burlington after battling breast cancer for 18 years.
Miss Lindley was born November 22, 1948 in Chatham County. After graduating from Burlington Business college, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Elon College. Pheobe retired from the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC, Chapel Hill. She served as pianist, organist and choir director at Center United Methodist Church, Snow Camp for over 40 years.
Survivors include brothers, Charles H. Lindley and wife Judy of Graham, Winfred E. Lindley and wife Gail of Alexandria, VA; sister Lou Crutchfield and husband Benny of Graham; many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and grandnephews, who all adored her.
Miss Lindley was proceeded in death by he parents, Charles H. Lindley and Evelyne Thompson Lindley.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Center United Methodist Church with minister, Reverend John Varden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m.

SIDNEY ROGER “SID" PROPST, SR.
Sidney Roger “Sid” Propst, Sr., age 74, of Mt. Juliet, TN, died Saturday, January 30, 2010.
Mr. Propst was an avid outdoorsman. He was the son of the late Levi Lee and Ella Mae Simmons Propst, and was also preceded in death by his brother, Odell Propst and sister, Gladys Holcomb.
Survivors include sons, S. Roger (Robin) Propst, Jr. of Mt. Juliet, TN, L. Wayne Propst of Lewisburg; brother, Zannie (Erna) Propst of Columbus, GA; sisters, Jeannie Propst of San Diego, CA, Hazel Jones and Mary Shumate, both of Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Heather (David) Conklan, Pamela Propst, and Elizabeth Propst.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Bond Memorial Chapel.
Visitation was scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bond Memorial Chapel, N. Mt. Juliet Road and Weston Drive, Mt. Juliet, TN (615) 773-2663.
MARTIN “MARTY” ALLEN LOFLIN
Martin “Marty”Allen Loflin, 34, of Bear Creek died Tuesday, (01-19-2010) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (01-22-2010) at High Falls Friends Church, with Pastor Ben Hurley, Rev. Kenneth Bouldin and Rev. Robert Kidd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Loflin was a Moore County native, a Chatham Central High School Graduate, had an Associate Degree in Poultry Science from N. C. State and a Bachelor’s Degree from Appalachian State University. He was assistant manager of Mountaire Farms Feed Mill in Candor, and a member of High Falls Friends Church.
Survivors include his wife, Tabatha Bouldin Loflin of the home; daughters, McKinley and Sophie Loflin of the home; parents, Ennis and Becky H. Loflin of Bear Creek; brother, Matt Loflin of Raleigh; grandparents, Bobby and Virginia Upchurch Hill of High Falls.

LEON JACKSON GOODWIN
Leon Jackson Goodwin, 80, of Apex died Tuesday (01-19-2010).
A memorial service was held Friday, (01-22-2010) at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Goodwin was born February 28, 1929 in Wake County to the late Lawson and Hallie Goodwin. He served in the US Navy, attended UNC-Chapel Hill, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and choir member.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie Mae Wilson Goodwin; brothers, Wallace Goodwin, Edward Goodwin, Harold Goodwin, Wilbur Goodwin; and sister, Frances Goodwin.
Survivors include his wife, Daphine Goodwin; daughter, Diane Goodwin, of Cary; son, Douglas Goodwin of Siler City; sister, Dorothy Taylor of Raleigh; brothers, John Goodwin of Jamesville, Norwood Goodwin of San Diego CA; four grandchildren; step-sons, John Murray of Raleigh, Kenneth Barnette of Fredericksburg VA, Alan Barnette, Paul Barnette, both of Durham; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

ALFRED WALLACE DAVIS
Alfred Wallace Davis, 89, Goldston died Wednesday, (01-20-2010) at Laurels of Chatham, Pittsboro.
The funeral was held Sunday, (01-24-2010) at 2 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, with Rev. Womack Keck officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Davis was born May 15, 1920, the son of Leonidas and Delcie (Oldham) Davis. He was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a veteran of WWII having served with both the Army and Marines. Alfred had worked as a heavy equipment operator in both logging and construction.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela D. Hart of Sanford; sons, Robert Davis of Sanford, Daniel Davis of Gulf; one sister, Virginia D. Lynch of Pittsboro; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
SARAH BROOKS MILLIGAN
Sarah Brooks Milligan, 74, of Siler City died Thursday, (01-21-2010) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
The funeral was held Sunday, (01-24-2010) at 4 p.m. at Brookdale Baptist Church, with Rev Christopher St. Jean and Rev. Randy Queen officiating. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Milligan was born November 6, 1935, the daughter of Charlie L. and Jessie Belle Branch Brooks, Sr. She was born in Moore County, was of the Baptist faith, and retired from the Chatham Hospital as a unit secretary.
She is survived by one daughter, Darlene Johnson of Siler City; sons, Arthur Milligan, Jr. of Asheboro, Charles Milligan of Evansville, IN, Dean Milligan of Maysville; sisters, Mary Maldonado of Siler City, Jeanette Carol Powers of Burlington; brother, Charlie L. Brooks, Jr. of Siler City; eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

FLOYD LEONARD MORRIS
Floyd Leonard Morris, 73, of Bennett died Friday (01-22-2010) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday (01-25-2010) at Joyce-Brady Chapel with Rev. Terry Warren officiating. Burial followed in Pine Mountain Friends Church Cemetery.
Mr. Morris was a Rowan County native, and a retired bridge foreman with the City of Richmond, VA. He later operated Bennett Bicycle and Variety shop and was a former member of Coleridge Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Brady Morris of the home; daughters, Gail Kimble, Rebecca Compton, both of Statesville; sons, Terry Scott Morris of Statesville, Victor Boger of Mechanicsville, VA; brother, James Morris of Chesterfield, SC; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
HELEN LAYTON McCLURE
Helen Layton McClure, 85, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday (01-19-2010) at Best of Care Assisted Living.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday (01-22-2010) at Whitley’s Funeral Home Main Chapel with Dr. Glenn L. Myers, Jr. officiating. Burial followed at Carolina Memorial Park.
Mrs. McClure was born April 14, 1924 in Cabarrus County, the daughter of the late Charles Olin Layton and Ruth Roland Layton. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Concord and retired from K&W Cafeteria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Worth McClure; brothers, Robert Layton, Archie Lay-ton, Craig Layton; sisters, Marie Sapp and Myrell Furr.
Survivors include sons, Mark W. McClure of Kannapolis, Rev. Dr. Edward Lee McClure of Siler City; brothers, R.C. Layton of Concord, Hoy Layton of Gainesville, GA, Terry Layton of Winston-Salem; and two grandchildren.

LUEVINIA MORRIS JOHNSON
Mrs. Luevinia Morris Johnson, 83, of Bynum, died Saturday (01-23-2010) at her home.
Graveside service were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (01-27-2010), at Bynum United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jeff Babajtis officiating.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Montgomery County, December 2, 1926, the daughter of William G. and May Clark Morris. She was a graduate of Pittsboro High School, attended Ashmoore Business College and was a member of Bynum United Methodist Church. She worked in various jobs including textiles, the Chatham County jail, NC Memorial Hospital and the Chatham County schools.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Paulette Bryant of Sanford; brother, Libron “Sam” Morris of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas “Prate” Johnson; sister, “Birtie” Harris; brothers, Marvin Morris and W.H. “Dub” Morris.
