NELLIE McCORMICK HOLDER
Nellie McCormick Holder, 79, of X Campbell Road, Pittsboro, died April 13, 2010 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City after a brief illness. Mrs. Holder was born in Chatham County on Sept. 6, 1930, the daughter of Charles Francis McCormick and Katie Smith McCormick (Pattishall).
She worked for years as an accountant at Webster Poultry and later assisted her husband in real estate. Mrs. Holder loved a good cup of coffee, reading, taking care of the hummingbirds and other birds around her home, and also performing discreet, random acts of kindness for others. For ten years she enjoyed winters in Florida with her husband. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, M.E. “Bud” Holder of the home; son, Gene Holder of Archdale; daughters, Gaynelle Knight and Sharon Shehdan and her husband Lin, all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ian Holder and Meredith Shehdan; one brother, James McCormick of Delaware; two special nieces, Nadine Overby and Carmane Honeycutt; and many other nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holder was preceded in death by her parents, grandson, Christopher Holder, and six brothers and sisters.
A graveside funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 at Hanks Chapel Church cemetery with the Rev. Ray Gooch presiding. Friends visited with the family from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

The family would like to thank the staff of Chatham Hospital for their excellent care and all the kindness shown to Mrs. Holder and her family during her illness.

IDA M. SNIPES
Ida M. Snipes, age 77, of Pittsboro, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010. She was a long time employee of the UNC Hospital System as an Environmental Services Housekeeper.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband, Ward Snipes, and her parents, Allen and Hazel Sears Money.
Survivors include her daughters, Dale Kersey, Diane Dean, Teresa Snipes; sister, Lib Farrell and husband Jim; grandchildren, Kevin Copelan, Ashlee Copelan and two great-grandchildren.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2010 at Hall-Wynne funeral service, Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, 2791 Jones Ferry Road, Chapel Hill.
Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service in Pittsboro.
SUZANNE JERNIGAN PROCTOR
Suzanne Jernigan Proctor, 82, of New Bern and formerly of Pittsboro, died April 16, 2010 at Carolina East Medical Center.
Mrs. Proctor was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. She taught school at Moncure and Pittsboro and retired in 1986 atfer 37 years. Suzanne was a former member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church until she moved to New Bern in 2002. After retirement, Ms. Proctor volunteered with the school systems.
She is survived by two sisters, Helen J. Shine of New Bern, Peggy J. Hawks of Raleigh; one nephew, James F. “Jamey” Shine, III of New Bern; her nieces, Mary S. Williams and husband Ernie of New Bern; Elizabeth S. Peele and husband Bo of Chapel Hill, Cynthia J. Rice and husband Steve, Susan Jackson, and Sharon Jackson, all of Raleigh; grand nieces and nephews, Katelyn Williams of New Bern, Amanda Peele of Chapel Hill, Steven Walker and wife Kay and Matthew Walker, all of Raleigh, her great-great-niece, Elizabeth and great-great-nephew, Jackson.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Christ Episcopal Church. The family received friends following the service in the Parish Hall.

JUNE THOMAS SMITH
June Thomas Smith, 80, of 1682 Silk Hope Road, Siler City died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at his home. Mr. Smith was born June 2, 1929, the son of Javan R. and Annie Bare Smith.
Mr. Smith was a native of Chatham County and retired owner-operator of Chatham Electric Company, Inc. after 37 years. June was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, the church choir and held numerous offices within the church. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He served as past president of the Silk Hope Ruritan Club, a member of the VFW, and the Barber Shop Chorus, Greensboro Chapter. He loved playing golf, music and was devoted to his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Javan R. and Annie Bare Smith, infant twin sons, and two infant daughters, brothers, Jesse Earl and Robert D. Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Maness Smith; one son, Dwaine Alan Smith and wife, Rachel of Siler City; grandchildren, Jason Smith and wife, Megan of Greensboro, Jessica Smith Thorn and husband, Ryan of Siler City, Jaron Smith of Siler City; one sister, Betty Smith Crews of Kernersville; one brother, Joe Smith of Siler City; and three great-grandchildren.
The memorial service will be held Sunday, April 25, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory-Mountain Road, Siler City with Rev. Brian Wellborn officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
LARRY H. ALSTON
Mr. Larry H. Alston, 61, of Pittsboro died Monday (04-05-2010) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday (04-08-2010) at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Delois Alston; daughter, Lorita A. Lawson of Sanford; son, Larry “Tony” Alston of Louisville, KY; mother, Virginia Thomas of Pittsboro; brothers, Raymond Alston of Pittsboro, Albert Alston, Robert Alston, both of Siler City, Steven Alston of Greensboro; sisters, Jean Headen of Siler City, Ada Alston of Pittsboro, Diane Burton of Fuquay-Varina; and two granddaughters.
JAMES LEWIS “JIM” GADDIS
James Lewis “Jim” Gaddis, 66, of Bear Creek died Wednesday (04-07-2010) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday (04-09-2010) at Joyce-Brady Chapel with Rev. Jeff Looney officiating.
Mr. Gaddis was a Haywood County native, a retired mechanic and dairy farm employee.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne Carlton Gaddis of the home; sons, Ronald “Bo” Gaddis of Bear Creek, Robert Gaddis of Birmingham, AL; daughters; Pamela Gaddis of Bennett, Linda Staley of Bear Creek; brothers; Tom Gaddis of Silk Hope, Robert Gaddis of Kelly, Bill Gaddis of Julian; sisters, Barbara Jean Martin of Liberty, Peggy Norris of Burlington, Phyllis Stout of Asheboro; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
JAMES HUDSON COTTEN
James “Jimmy” Hudson Cotten, 72, of Pittsboro died Sunday (04-11-2010).
Funeral services were held Tuesday (04-13-2010) at 2 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Dan Robinson, Chris Gambos, Val Chadwick, and Wesley Thomas officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Cotton retired from Bellsouth after 34 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hudson S. and Dallie Cotten; and brothers, Hoyle Cotten, and E. Elmo Cotten.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Jones Cotten; daughter, Kimberly Cotten-West; brother, H. Wayne Cotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1414 East 11th St., Siler City, NC 27344.
ALMA THOMAS CRUTCHFIELD
Mrs. Alma Thomas Crutchfield, 91 of Pittsboro, died Friday (04-09-2010) in Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Pittsboro Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Tripp Harmon and Rev. Ray Gooch. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Chatham County December 15, 1918, Mrs. Crutchfield was the daughter of Frank and Kate Thomas. She was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church and retired from UNC Hospital.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Crutchfield; sisters, Mary Clark, Hazel McDonald; and brothers, Bernice Thomas and Raymond Thomas.
Surviving is her husband, Talton Crutchfield; daughter, Faye Crutchfield of Charlottesville, VA; and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions maybe made to UNC Hospice.
ROBERT LEE HARPER
Robert Lee Harper, 88, of Burlington, died Saturday, (04-10-2010) at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Siler City to the late Arlie Lee and Angie Robbins Harper and was married to the late Merruim Louise Harper. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his son Robert Lee “Bob” Harper, Jr. of California; sister, Helen Brown; brother, Winfred C. “Ook” Harper; half-sister, Peggy Kernodle, all of Burlington. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a brother, Ruble Harper.
MARY ALENE CULBERSON STOUT
Mary Alene Culberson Stout, 92, of Siler City died Monday, (04-12-2010) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, (04-15-2010) at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church, with Rev. Ken Spivey and Rev. Gregg Burriss officiating. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Mrs. Stout was born February 26, 1918, the daughter of Wade C. and Eula Beavers Culberson. A native of Chatham County, she was a homemaker and a member of Plainfield Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Stout.
She is survived by one brother, Hoyle Culberson of Siler City.
MIRIAM WINONA BRASINGTON CHUNN
Miriam Winona Brasington Chunn, died at her home in Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday, (04-01-2010). She was a former resident of Bynum.
A memorial service was held on Friday (04-09-2010) at The Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.
Survivors include a daughter Tammy Trimble of Atlanta; son, Bobby Chunn of Atlanta; sister, Dathalene Mullis of Chapel Hill; brothers, Marion Brasington of Adairsville, GA and Layden Brasington of Graham.

RETA PRICE MARSH
Mrs. Reta Price Marsh, 89, of Pittsboro died Friday (03-26-2010) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (03-30-2010) at 2 p.m. at Centennial AME Zion Church with Rev. Marcus Williams officiating. Burial followed at T.C. Marsh Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Marsh was a member of Centennial Church where she served as an usher, deaconess, and on the missionary board.
Survivors include daughters, Joyce Alston of Sanford, Martha Cooper, Hemingway; son, Steve Marsh of Bear Creek; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
