SHELBY — Mrs. Britt Wood Hager Welch, 83, of 1316 Barbee Road, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Pennimon, Va., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd H. and Emma G. Dills Wood. She was a retail sales associate with Belk Department Store, Charlotte, and a charter member of Topsail Baptist Church in Hampstead. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin R. Hager; her second husband, Lloyd Excel Welch; and a sister, Georgia Green. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Loyd Gregory and Sybile Hager of Conover; one daughter and son-in-law, Vicky H. and Joe E. Turner Sr. of Lawndale; and one stepdaughter, Nancy H. Boggs and her husband, Kenneth, of Fallston; one brother, Billy B. Wood and wife, Loraine, of Franklin; one sister, Geneva J. Boyd of Flat Rock; five grandchildren, Brian and Leslie Hager, Joe E. Turner Jr., Sandy Turner and Cynthia Hord; and five great-grandchildren.. The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Neil Efird officiating. Burial will be in Concord United Methodist Church in Bessemer City. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of Joe and Vicky Turner, 132 Rustic Road, Lawndale. Memorials may be made to Topsail Baptist Church in Hampstead.

Nancy Limerick
SHELBY — Mrs. Nancy Allen Limerick, 90, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Altera Sterling House. Born April 11, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Bess Borders Allen, longtime residents of Cleveland County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Paul Limerick, who headed the Shelby Chamber of Commerce for many years. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Pauline Allen Poston, Mable Allen Owens, Pat Allen Willis and infant, Sarah Faye Allen; and three brothers, James C. Allen, Bill F. Allen and Dan B. Allen. Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church in Shelby and belonged to the Women’s Circle. She was also a member of the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Nancy will be missed, never forgotten. She is survived by two sons, Douglas Limerick and wife, Robin, of Fairfax, Va., and Dan Limerick and wife, Wendy, of Marietta, Ga.; one sister, Jessie Allen Elliott of Mount Holly; three granddaughters, Leigh Alice Limerick of Morgantown, Va., Leslie Limerick of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lauren Limerick of Fairfax; two grandsons, Paul and Blake Limerick, both of Marietta; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Nancy’s name to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

SHELBY — Mr. Gary Ray Mitchell, 44, of 3009 Waco Fallston Road, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at home. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Carpenter’s Funeral Home of Cherryville.

Eula Hill
FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Eula Brown Hill, 96, of 401 Dunmore Road went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002. She was born Jan. 17, 1906, daughter of the late Anthony and Syvilla Brown in Winnsboro, S.C. She and her family lived in South Carolina for several years. Then they moved to Lincoln County where she met and married Willie T. Hill on Dec. 23, 1923. From this union came one child, Nellie Belle Hill Jones. They lived in the surrounding areas of Shelby until 1942, then moved to Philadelphia. They returned to North Carolina in 1971 and resided in Lawndale until 1986. Eula was a homemaker and an active member of First Baptist Church of Lawndale. She was also a member of the Eastern Star Elizabeth Chapter Order No. 3 and the St. Mary’s Court Herroids of Jericho No. 4. In 1986 she moved to Florida and joined Beulah First Baptist Church in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., until 2001, when she moved to Fayetteville. She was preceded in death by her husband in December of 1986; and her daughter in November of 2001. She leaves to cherish her loving memories a son-in-law, J.D. Jones of Asheville; a grandson and spouse, Gregory and Gwendolyn Jones of Fayetteville; a granddaughter, Beverly Jones of Asheville; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Jones of Fayetteville; a great-grandson, Eric Jones of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawndale. Burial will be in White Oak Springs Baptist Church in Ellenboro. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Dockery’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BOSTIC — Mr. Dana Michael Henderson, 27, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be today at 5 p.m. at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home. SHELBY — Mrs. Pauline “Polly” Wyatt Bruyn, 81, of 1219 Starlite Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover. Born in Hot Springs, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Taylor and Eula Hassie Pangle Wyatt. She was a homemaker and member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and making blankets for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. Polly loved to have her friends visit her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wein Bruyn; and a son, Robert Dale Bruyn. She is survived by a daughter, Starla Lovelace of Shelby; a special niece, Kaye Tallcott of Brevard; a brother, Edward Wyatt of Waynesville; two sisters, Evelyn Simpson of Locust and Blanche Fowler and husband, Arthur, of Hot Springs; three grandchildren, Elisa Lowery and husband, Chuck, John Magness and Sher Bruyn, all of Shelby; and five great-grandchildren, John Michael Magness, Brandon Magness, Charlie Lowery, Luke Galloway, all of Shelby, and Chris Bruyn of Athens, Ga. A graveside service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Bryan Glisson officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, 1146 County Home Road, Shelby, NC 28152; or to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

CHARLOTTE — Mrs. Bessie Rhea Turner Woods, formerly of Shelby, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Mercy Hospital. The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church. Alexander Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Mullinax
BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Charles Lee Mullinax, 65, of 592 Dravo Road, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was a son of Floyd Mullinax of Blacksburg and the late Viola Dover Mullinax. He was owner and operator of Charles Mullinax Logging Company. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Lee Mullinax; and a brother, Carlton Mullinax. In addition to his father, he is survived by a daughter , Lori Ann Mullinax Hoyle and her husband, Jeff, of Casar; five sisters, Margie Hamrick, Faye Pruitt and Mabel Pruitt, all of Shelby, Shirley Emory of Grover and Geraldine Dover of Blacksburg; a brother, Bobby Mullinax of Blacksburg; and three granddaughters, Danielle Mullinax of Shelby, Nicole Hoyle and Jodi Hoyle, both of Casar. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Goodman, Norris Willis and Buster Griffin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Faith Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home of Floyd Mullinax, 1047 Dravo Road, Blacksburg, S.C.

Nicole Getz
LINCOLNTON — Mrs. Sabrina Nicole Beal Getz, 31, of 710 S. Grier St., died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at home. She was the daughter of Scott and Sara Beal Myers of Lincolnton. She was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Beal; grandparents, Sadie and Mason Beal and Elizabeth and Earl Palmore; and her aunt, Johnnie Gilbert. Nikki was a 1989 graduate of East Lincoln High School, attended New Life Christian Fellowship Church and was a homemaker. She was best known for being Super Mom to five angels. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Charles Getz of Cherryville; four daughters, Candace, Catherine, Christa and Samantha, all of the home; one son, Alexander, of the home; grandparents, Carl and Gale Meyers Justus of Shelby; aunts and uncles, Lisa Myers Leal and Oscar Leon of Shelby, Duke and Louise Beal, Joe Beal, Donald and Catherine Beal, Darryl and Pat Beal, Bessie and Ernest Leigh, Willie Howard, Jean Saunders, and R.B. and Marcene Beal, all of Lincolnton. She is also survived by extended family members Peggy and Marty White, Vickie and Dale Ivester and Michael and Connie Vaughn, all of Mooresville. The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Petro officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Nicole Beal Getz Children’s Fund, care of Carolina Trust Bank, P.O. LINCOLNTON — Noah Nixon, infant son of Crystal Nixon and Phillip Byers, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Duke University Medical Center. Woody Blanton
SHELBY — Mr. Woodrow “Woody” Blanton, 88, of 1109 Hardin Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. A native of Cleveland County, he was a Master Sgt. in the Army in World War II and was an instructor at Camp Blanding, Fla. and in Japan as a Peacekeeper. He was retired after 47 years at Dover Mill Co. He was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe. E. and Mary Alice Hardin Blanton; a wife, Orpha Heafner Blanton; three brothers, Eura Blanton, Joe E. Blanton Jr. and Truman Blanton and six sisters, Essie B. Ledford, Blala Blanton, Vera B. Hamrick, Alma B. Spangler, Edna B. Grigg and Lama B. Kilpatrick. He is survived by a son, Steven Blanton of Elkhart, Ind.; a brother and a sister-in-law, Marshall and Glennie Blanton of Shelby; a sister, Azelea Brydges of Shelby; two grandchildren and their spouses, Steven and Michelle Blanton of Plano, Texas and Hope and Ken Brackin of Cocoa Fla and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Daggerhart and Mr. Barry Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Ross Grove Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home. Paul Jaynes
SHELBY — Mr. Paul Edwin Jaynes, 44, of 715 Cherryville Road, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of Herbert and Ruth Clontz Jaynes of Shelby. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1976 and attended Cleveland Community College. He was former industrial maintenance for Industrial Fabricators, Kings Mountain, and prior to with Southco Industries, Shelby. He was a Baptist, loved riding and working on motorcycles and was a member of the Independence Motorcycle Club. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Dennis Jaynes and wife, Lee Ann, of Shelby and Gary Jaynes and wife, Pat, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; uncles and aunts, Billy Ray and Mary Clontz of Marion and Faye and Cy Cook of Coco Beach, Fla.; one niece; and four nephews. The funeral will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Eng officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friend one hour before the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Liver Foundation, 75 Maiden Lane, Suite 603, New York, NY 10038-4810.
