JUDY ANN WELCH PRESLAR

Bennett – Judy Ann Welch Preslar of 827 N.C. Highway 22 went home to be with her Lord and Savior early on the morning of December 31, 2010 after a seven-month long battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Fall Creek Baptist Church 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett, with Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe, Rev. Danny Jarrell, and Rev. Mike Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Preslar was born September 20, 1941 to the late Carl and Pearl B. Welch of Siler City and was a 1960 graduate of Bennett High School. Judy, a native of Chatham County, was well known and much loved in her community and in Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she was a charter member. She worked most of her life in various forms of food service, having owned a grill at Harper’s Crossroads, serving as head dietician at Brian Center, and for the last several years, as what she called “the head nut in the nut kitchen” at Southern Supreme. Her cooking skills were cherished by her friends and family who especially delighted in her homemade biscuits and wonderful chocolate pies. Although she had never taken a music lesson, amazingly, Judy could play the piano with incredible skill and when asked how she could do such a thing, she would always say it was just a talent that the Lord had blessed her with.

Judy was a wonderful storyteller and had a delightful sense of humor, but to those who knew her best, Judy’s faith in Jesus was her most admirable trait. She exercised that faith to the very end, and shared it even with her caregivers in the hospital. Judy would have told you that she was a very simple person, but she was indeed extraordinary and enriched the lives of all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Waylon Preslar, who also served as her most loving caregiver and strongest supporter; two children, Ginger Teague and husband Brian of Siler City, Rodney Preslar and wife Lisa of Bennett; one precious granddaughter, the apple of her eye, Cori Teague; three sisters, Carol Perry and husband William Earl of Silk Hope, Nanci Evans and husband Ron of Siler City, Carlene Stevens and husband Jimmy of Garner; one brother, Johnny Welch of Siler City; a special cousin, Sue Perry of Siler City and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family would like to extend very special thanks to Moore Regional Oncology Clinic nurses and to Dr. Robert Pohlmyer, as well as Margaret and the other hospital nurses, all of who provided Judy with excellent, loving care.

The Preslar family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011 at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

Memorials should be directed to Fall Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett, N.C. 27208.
