GERALD EARL THOMAS
Gerald Earl Thomas, 76, of 654 Center Church Road, Pittsboro, died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Thomas was born August 8, 1934, the son of Earl Reid and Neva (Fuquay) Thomas. He was a native of Chatham County, a dairy and poultry farmer, a member of the Silk Hope Fire Department and the Silk Hope Ruritan Club. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church where he was a trustee and a member of the Jasper Braxton Sunday School Class. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean (Lindley) Thomas of Pittsboro; one daughter, Gina Thomas House and husband, Gary of Dunn; one son, Dennis Craig Thomas and wife, Jean B. of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Travis Thomas, Kayla and Tyler House; step-grandchildren, Logan and Sarah Thomas.
The family received friends Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church, 9204 Center Church Road, Snow Camp with Rev. John Varden officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

KATHLEEN MARLEY HAMMER
Beatrice Kathleen Marley Hammer, 92, of 112 North Sixth Avenue, Siler City died Monday, April 11, 2011 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Hammer was born December 22, 1918, the daughter of Lon and Flora (Murray) Marley. She was a native of Chatham County, retired from Boling Chair Company and a member of West End United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newby Hammer, a son, Donald E. Hammer and a daughter, Frances H. Hall.
She is survived by one son, Charles W. Hammer and wife, Millie of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren, Greg Hammer and wife, Kim, Eric Hammer and wife, Leeann, Lisa Hall and friend, Cheryl Earl, Glenn Hall and wife, Cindy, Phillip Hall and wife, Tracy; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany, Lauren, Haley, Jarred and Daniel Hammer, Jason and Meredith Hall; special friends, Doris DiMeo and husband, Tony, Doris Hammer and Daffy and Faye McLaughlin.
The family will receive friends Thursday, April 14, 2011 from 10-11 a.m. at West End United Methodist Church, 1104 North Chatham Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. at West End United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to West End United Methodist Church, 1104 N. Chatham Ave., Siler City, NC 27344.

FLORENCE WICKS PAYNE
Florence Wicks Payne of Bynum died Tuesday, (03-29-2011) at Laurels of Chatham.
A private memorial service for friends and family will be set at a later date by her family here. Another will be planned in Jacksonville, Fl.
Mrs. Payne was born July 13, 1924 in Elizabeth, NJ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Payne, father James Wicks, mother, Alice Wicks, and sisters, Eleanor Jones and Dorothy Brugger.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Payne of Bynum, Patricia Parrish of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Ruth Copeland of Jacksonville, FL; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Charles House Elder Care Center, 109 Hillcrest Avenue, Carrboro NC 27510-1415.
ALICE RUTH COLE
Alice Ruth Cole, 83, died Saturday, (04-02-2011), at her home in Pittsboro Christian Village.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, (04-06-2011) at Pittsboro Brethren Assembly on the grounds of Pittsboro Christian Village with Rev. Gerald Baker, Jr. presiding.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Edgett Horton, mother, Petronella Wolf Horton, and sister, Lois Horton.
Mrs. Cole was born July 15, 1927 in Angola, Africa. She devoted her life to being a missionary.
Survivors include her husband, Calvin Cole; sons, John Cole of Holly Springs, Paul Cole of Massachusetts; daughters, Deborah Bourque and Rebecca Bennett, both of Massachusetts; brothers, Frank Albert Horton of Switzerland and Robert Paul Horton of Illinois.

BRENDA GLOVER WOODS
Mrs. Brenda Glover Woods of Siler City died Sunday, (04-03-2011) at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, (04-08-2011) at Pine Hill United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
EARNEST “STEVE” BARBEE
Earnest “Steve” Barbee of Chapel Hill died Monday, March 28, 2011 at his home.
Mr. Barbee was born October 11, 1953 and is from Chapel Hill. He loved golf, his community, and his family. Steve was well known for being a handyman.
Steve is survived by his wife Doris Barbee; his mother Ruby Estelle Barbee; his daughter Stephanie Mueller and husband Jason; his sister Melba Barbee; and his two grandchildren, Jaxson Mueller and Reagan Mueller. He was preceded in death by his father Earnest Paul Barbee.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Hall Wynne funeral service, Pittsboro. The funeral was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 31, at Merritts United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Westwood Cemetery. Pastor Danny Creech conducted the service.

MEREDITH WRIGHT “BUDDY” JOHNSON
Meredith Wright "Buddy" Johnson, 81, of 3800 Silk Hope Road, Siler City died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Buddy was born in Chatham County on June 6, 1929, the daughter of Rollin and Eva (Hadley) Wright. She was a member of South Fork Friends Meeting where she was a member of the William Penn Sunday School Class, Circle of Hope Missionary Society, past clerk of the Elders, sang in the choir and served as a class teacher. She was known as an excellent cook, especially her caramel cakes. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and was an accomplished seamstress. Buddy was a farm girl and a great poetry writer, avid Tar Heel and Atlanta Braves fan and the matriarch of the family she loved. She is now reunited with family, a son, Danny Reid Johnson, her parents, Rollin and Eva Hadley Wright and a sister, Madge Wright Culberson.
Family left behind, husband of 65 years, Hugh H. Johnson; one daughter, Sandra Johnson Pickard and husband, David of Silk Hope; two sons, Richard Hugh "Dickie" Johnson and wife, Rebecca "Becky" of Ramseur, Dennis Johnson and wife, Pat of Welcome; three sisters: Myrl W. Johnson of Pittsboro, Flora "Pud" W. Jordan of Snow Camp, Frances W. Cheek of Bennett; grandchildren, Sherry Norfleet and husband, Robert, Danielle Cockrum and husband, James, Annie Mae Pickard and friend, Tyler Paulson, Kristin Johnson and friend, Bo Dickerson, Danny and Blake Johnson, Olivia and Cari Johnson; great- grandchildren, Heather, Davey, Ashley, Faith and Abigail "Abby" Meredith.

The funeral was held Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp with Billy Britt, Andrew Needham and Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MRS. JESSIE MAE SANDS CLARK
Jessie Mae Sands Clark of Siler City passed away Saturday, April 02, 2011 at her residence.
She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
A funeral service was held Monday, April 4, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Rocky River Friends Meeting with David Hobson and Jimmy Hill officiating. Burial followed in the meeting-house cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty.
Mrs. Clark was the daughter of the late Jessie Limuel Sands and Nanny May Rierson Sands. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Shelby Jean Rogers and brother, Gilmer Sands.
Surviving is her husband of 60 years, Clyde E. Clark; sons, Eddie Clark (Teresa) of Siler City, Mark Clark (Candice) of Siler City; brother, LeRoy “Bud” Sands (Betty) of Asheboro; five grandchildren, Logan, Rhen, Mason, Chad Clark and Tonya Williams; and two great-grandchildren, Reid and Eliza Williams.

MRS. SYLVIA “FRANCES” FIELDS ROJAS
Lexington – Mrs. Sylvia “Frances” Fields Rojas, 80, a resident of 6460 U.S. Highway 64 East, died Saturday morning, April 2, 2011 in the Hospice Home at High Point. She was born April 28, 1930 in Chatham County, NC, a daughter of the late Rev. Charles William Fields and Lessie Tripp Fields. She was a retired employee with Thomasville Furniture Industries with twenty-five years of service.
Mrs. Rojas was a member of Amity Hills Baptist Church, the church choir and the adult ladies Sunday School class. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Brenda Craven and Hazel Ellis and a brother, Larry Fields.
Surviving are her husband Jose Gonzales Rojas of the home; daughters, Rose Hill Moore of Hillsborough, Hope Hogan of Randleman, Stephanie Branson Hinkle and her husband Paul Hinkle, III of Thomasville, Jewel Branson Espinosa and her husband Isaul of Denton; sons, J. W. Hill and wife Barbara of Burlington, Stuart Hill and wife Connie of Jacksonville, FL, Darryl Hogan and wife Kristin of Randleman; brother, Milton Fields and wife Sammie of Columbus, Ohio; 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Amity Hills Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Wall officiating. Burial followed in Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Bynum. Mrs. Rojas remained at the J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service.
The family received friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

ANNA MILDRED MITCHELL KILGORE
Anna Mildred Mitchell Kilgore, 81, of 141 Kilgore Hill Road, Siler City died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. Kilgore was born April 29, 1929, the daughter of George and Lillie (O'Quinn) Mitchell. She was born in Pike County, Kentucky, but lived most of her life in Siler City. She was a member of Community Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Preston Kilgore.
She is survived by three daughters, Faye Kilgore of Siler City, Mary Church and husband, Charles of Pittsboro, Debbie Medlin and husband, Mel of Garner; three sons, Robert Kilgore and wife, Sandy of Prichard, W.Va, Roger Kilgore and wife, Susan of Cincinnati, OH, James Kilgore and wife, Melinda of Siler City; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 8, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. Burial will follow in Chatham
CECIL LEE KELLY, JR.
Cecil Lee Kelly, Jr., 55, of Siler City died Saturday, (03-19-2011).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, (04-02-2011) at 3 p.m. at the Siler City Moose Lodge.
Mr. Kelly was born August 23, 1955, the son of Cecil Lee and Joyce Alice (McLaughlin) Kelly. A native of Chatham County, he had worked with A. J. Schneierson and Perfection Equipment. He attended Brookdale Baptist Church, and was a member of the Siler City Moose Lodge having served as Governor.
He is survived by one daughter, Shawn Kelly of Siler City.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been set up at RBC Centura Bank, 100 N. Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.
VELNA YORK
Mrs. Barbara Suitt “Velna” York, 72, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (03-23-2011) at UNC Hospitals.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (03-26-2011) at Bynum United Methodist Church with Rev. David Abbott and Rev. Gina Barrow presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
The daughter of Julius Jackson Suitt and Mary Marine Fowler Suitt, Velna was born July 1, 1938 in Chatham County. She was a graduate of Pittsboro High School, and retired from the UNC School of Nursing. She was a member of Bynum United Methodist Church, where she had served on the UMW Administrative Council, and she was a member of the NC State Employees Association.
Survivors include her husband, William G. “Billy” York; son, Timothy Reynolds of Pittsboro; daughter, Sherri Ann Reynolds of Pittsboro; step-daughter, Donna York Meacham of Wilmington; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
