Ms. Elizabeth Marie Lee, 92, of Baltimore, Maryland died Friday (09-30-2011).
Funeral services were held Saturday (10-08-2011) at Mt. View A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Laura Headen officiating. Burial followed in the Bryant family cemetery.
Survivors include brothers, Lincoln Lee and Tyrone Lee.
ALLIE G. FLETCHER
Allie Grey Fletcher, age 80, passed peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at home in Stuart, FL. She was born December 25, 1930 in Richlands, VA, the daughter of O.D. Altizer and Mae Lowe Altizer. Allie graduated from Richland’s High School, Longwood Women’s College, and Radford University. A long time resident of Siler City, she taught for 32 years at Jordan-Matthews High School. She was a member of the National Education Association, ADK Professional Sorority, and Siler City Presbyterian Church.
Allie is survived by Leslie Fletcher, husband; Leslie F. and Stephen Bolte, daughter and son-in-law of Jupiter, FL; Christin and Brian Benton, granddaughter and grandson-in-law of Palm City, FL; Matthew Bolte and Rebecca Ramey, grandson and fiancée of Louisville, KY; sisters, Glenda Little and husband Bob of Keene, TX, Sue Stimmel of Natural Bridge, VA, Beulah Peterson of Miami, FL and Carol Hasselbrack and husband Wally of St. Helena, CA.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Siler City Presbyterian Church in Siler City with Rev. Sue Flippin officiating.

DIXIE ELKINS ROSE
Dixie Elkins Rose, 67, of Sanford, Florida died September 15, 2011 after a battle with leukemia.
A former resident of the Antioch Community, she was a 1962 graduate of Chatham Central High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mollie Elkins and her youngest son, Roy Rose.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Wayne Rose, Sr.; son, Wayne Rose, Jr.; daughter, Gina Rose, all of Sanford, FL; brothers, Oren Elkins, Raeford Elkins, both of Goldston; four granddaughters, Brittney Rose, a senior at Campbell College, Buies Creek, Keleigh Rose, Kourtney Rose, Keara Thomas; two grandsons, Corey Rose, Travis Rose; two great-grandsons, Dontae Rose, Antonio Rose; and one great-granddaughter, two-year old Dixie Rose, all of Sanford, FL.
FAYE SCOTT WILKIE
Faye Scott Wilkie, 80, of 3078 Robert Chapel Road, Goldston died Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Mrs. Wilkie was born September 25, 1931, the daughter of Arthur J. and Zuma (Vansickle) Scott. She was a native of Grant County, Oklahoma. Faye was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a life time member of WMU. She was retired from Kayser-Roth, and had a passion for yard work, loved the fall season and going to the mountains. She is preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Wilkie and grandson, Kenny R. Lester.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jack Wilkie of the home; daughter, Diane Wilkie Lester and husband, Lynn of Goldston; son, Robert Dean Wilkie and wife, Phyllis of Liberty; brother, Russell D. Scott and wife Deanna of Stinnett, TX; grandson, Brad Wilkie and wife, Dana; granddaughter, Lindy Lester; great grandchildren, Kenny Lester and Kobe Flynn.
Visitation was held Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith and Buckner Funeral Home. The funeral was held Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 3825 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston with Rev. Barry Lawrence officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MARY LOU JOYCE COOPER
Mary Lou Joyce Cooper, 82, of Pittsboro died October 7, 2011 following prolonged health related problems. She was born in Mt. Airy on November 15, 1929 to Sam and Elma Cook Joyce.
Mary Lou was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 60 years, John Cooper. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Steve Cooper and wife Mary Campbell Cooper of Pittsboro, Sam Cooper of Pittsboro, Vann Cooper and wife Harvi Collins Cooper of Cary; four grandchildren, Mary Cooper of Pittsboro, John Cooper and wife Becca Cooper of Lumberton, Will Cooper and wife Andi Cooper of Durham, Wes Cooper of Cary; two great-grandchildren, Max Cooper and David Cooper of Durham. Mary Lou was also survived by two sisters, Rachel Joyce Church of Lenoir, Alice Joyce Armfield of Mt, Airy; as well as numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and dear friend and caregiver, Donna Loyd. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Louise Joyce Edwards of Mars Hill.
Growing up in Surry County, Mary Lou later graduated from Mars Hill College and Furman University. She taught in public schools located in Sparta and Pittsboro. Mary Lou spent most of her life in Chatham County where she faithfully served her church and community, exemplifying service to others throughout her life. Many enjoyed her friendship and gracious hospitality. Through her efforts, love, care, and family, her “life well lived” leaves the world a better place. She leaves us with wonderful memories to cherish and share.
A service celebrating the life and faith of Mary Lou Joyce Cooper was held Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 2 o’clock at Pittsboro United Methodist Church. Friends visited with the family from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Pittsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial contribution be made to the Pittsboro United Methodist Church or to a local charity.
MABEL TALLY PHILLIPS
Mabel Tally Phillips, 92, formerly of Bear Creek, died Thursday, (09-29-2011) at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.
The funeral was held Saturday, (10-01-2011) at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Phillips; daughters, Marie Gaines, Clara Mae Phillips; parents and siblings, Victor Tally, Marjorie Gaines and Alene Beck.
Survivors include daughters, Betty P. Ruggiero of Fort Pierce, FL, Nancy P. Fields of Chesapeake, VA, Judy P. Councilman of Bear Creek; sister, Nellie Gaines of Siler City; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
TIMOTHY BRUCE SAUNDERS
Timothy Bruce Saunders, 48, of Robbins, passed away Friday (09-30-2011) at his home.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday (10-03-2011) at the Saunders Family Cemetery with Rev. Gary Melchin officiating.
Mr. Saunders was a Ran-dolph County native and a sawyer for Brady Sawmill in Coleridge. He attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Parks Saunders of the home; sons, Douglas Saunders of Bennett, John Saunders of the home; parents, Clyde and Clara B. Saunders of Robbins; brothers, Randy Saunders, Steve Saunders, both of High Falls, Billy Saunders of Robbins; sisters, Sandra Hall of High Falls, Becky Medlin of Waynesville; and one granddaughter.
FRANCES DELANO PRESSLEY HESS
Mrs. Frances Delano Pressley Hess, 77, formerly of the Bear Creek community died Saturday, (10-01-2011) at the Laurels of Chatham.
A memorial gathering was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, (10-05-2011) at Hall - Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro with Pastor Bob Wachs presiding.
A native of Yazoo, MS., Mrs. Hess was born February 3, 1934, the daughter of Charlie Franklin Pressley and Ethel Mae Butler Pressley. Mrs. Hess was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Louis W. Hess, Jr.; sons, Donald Blaine Hart of Pittsboro and Charles Muril Hart of Hillsborough.

WILLIAM ALBERT PIGGIE
Mr. William Albert Piggie, 76, of Pittsboro died Monday (09-26-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Thursday (09-29-2011) at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Chalmers officiating.
Mr. Piggie served his country during the Korean Conflict and worked 30 years for Safeway.
JOHN DAVID BROWN
Mr. John David Brown, 68, of Chapel Hill died Monday (09-05-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday (09-10-2011) at Staunton Memorial CME Church, with Rev. Albert S. Williams officiating. Burial followed at Pittsboro Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was a member of Staunton Memorial Church and a graduate of Chatham County Schools. He had worked at Belk Leggett and Horton Insurance Company.
Surviving is his mother, Nannie Brown Boldin of the home; one son, Christopher David Brown of Cedar Grove, sister, Claire Boldin; brother, Elonzo Boldin of Chapel Hill; and three grandchildren.
CHARLES L. SPIVEY
Charles L. Spivey, Sr., 73, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011 after a valiant fight with cancer.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Ellen Stamey Spivey of the home; sons, Chuck (Kim) of Siler City, Eddie (Jeannie) of Asheboro; and two granddaughters; siblings, David, Peggy, Faye, Janice, Linda and Nancy, all of Buncombe County. He was preceded in death by his parents, W. A. and Annie Pruett Spivey.
Charles was a loving husband, father and granddad. His family was the love of his life. He was a faithful member of the Pittsboro Church of the Nazarene, a U.S. Army veteran, and retired from Acme-McCrary in Asheboro,. After retirement, he enjoyed farming and traveling.
The family received friends Monday, October 3, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, and other times, at the family home.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Ward officiating. Burial was held at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte.

BEN STROUD FOUST
Ben Stroud Foust of Siler City died Monday, October 3, 2011 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mr. Foust was born April 24, 1923, the son of Eugene Harris and Arabella (Stroud) Foust, Sr. He was a native of Chatham County and a member of Siler City Presbyterian Church. He was retired from Boling Chair Company where he was the chief financial officer. He was an avid golfer. Ben was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy W. Foust; his parents; brothers, Jack and Charles Foust.
He is survived by one son, Michael Foust and wife, Donna of Siler City; sister, Sarah Smith of Siler City; brother, Eugene H. Foust, Jr. of Siler City; granddaughters, Tiffany Stephens and husband, Riley of Fayetteville, Nancy Foust of Siler City; great-granddaughter, Rylee Anne Stephens; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral will be Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Siler City Presbyterian Church, 720 W. 3rd Street, Siler City with Rev. Sue Flippin and Rev. Garry Arnett officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, Siler City.
