‘Bill’ Bridges Jr.
SHELBY — Mr. William Howard “Bill” Bridges Jr., 47, of 604 E. Sanders Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of Betty McDaniel Bridges of Shelby and the late William Howard Bridges Sr. He retired as a lieutenant in the patrol division of the Shelby Police Department after 13 years of service due to health problems. He served honorably and distinguishably. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, National Rifle Association and former member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Bill was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He always enjoyed spending time with his many friends. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Angie Riley Bridges of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Gary Floyd of Shelby; a niece and husband, Julie and Scott Crotts of Shelby; a nephew and wife, Jason and Lynne Floyd of Shelby; a great-niece, Jada Hayes of Shelby; a great-nephew, Allen Crotts of Shelby; and very special friends, Mike Drake of Shelby and Barbara Hirschy of Blacksburg, S.C. The funeral will be Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Revs. Glenn Davenport and David Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one and half hours before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of his sister, 1692 Crestland Drive, Shelby. CASAR — Mrs. Betty Pruett Blankenship, 51, of 438 Parker Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 8, 1951, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Bessie Hoyle Pruett of Casar and the late Bryson Julius Pruett. She retired as rubroom worker, finisher for Drexel Heritage Furniture Co.. She was a member of Pisgah Baptist Church. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Melvin Blankenship; and a brother, Clyde J. Pruett. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Amanda Blankenship of Casar; three brothers, Carl Pruett and Julius Pruett, both of Casar, and Bill Pruett of Lenior; and two sisters, Rosie Simpson and Arlene Pruett, both of Casar. The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Sanford officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Bruce Ridgway Cadwallader, 54, of 244 Dillon Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at home. He was born in Scott Air Force Base, St. Clair County, Ill. He was the son of the late Ave Schroff Cadwallader. He was employed at CA Short Co., Shelby, for 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Darlene Short Cadwallader of Kings Mountain; his father, Col. John S. Cadwallader of Salisbury; a son, Joe Shull of Kings Mountain; a daughter, LaChrista Shull of Kings Mountain; a brother, Craig Cadwallader of Hermosa Beach, Calif.; and a sister, Janice C. SHELBY — Mr. Pink Littlejohn, 88, of White Oak Manor, departed this life Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 29, 1914, he was the son of the late June and Ada Logan Littlejohn. He attended Washington Missionary Baptist Church and retired from Marvin Beam Ford of Cherryville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ester Smith Littlejohn; a daughter, Callie L. Allison; three brothers, Jacob Esau, Odell and Lawson Littlejohn. He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Betty L. Little of Cherryville, Ann and Lenny Alexander of Ontario, Calif., and Christine L. and Nathaniel Sweat of Kings Mountain; five sons and three daughters-in-law, John Thomas and Margaret Littlejohn of Gastonia, Charles Littlejohn of Los Angeles, James and Doris Littlejohn of Cherryville, J.C. Littlejohn of Shelby and Melvin and Sadie Littlejohn of Bun Level; 31 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The funeral will be today at 2:30 p.m. at Genesis Chapel with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns. LAWNDALE — Mr. Michael Douglas Maynard, 51, of 6409 Fallston Road, died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born Feb. 27, 1951, in Chattanooga, Tenn., he was the son of Sarah Bentley Maynard-Johnson and stepfather, Earl, and the late Joe Douglas Maynard. He was a retired software engineer. In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by his wife, Carol Lynette Tanner Bodrogi-Maynard; a son, Joseph Maynard, a daughter and son-in-law, Allison and Eddie Bass, all of Orlando, Fla.; a stepson, Kevin Bodrogi of Deer Park, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Nichole and Dawn Bodrogi, both of Deer Park, N.Y., and Melanie House of El Paso, Texas; and a sister, Debby Stull of Rutherfordton. SHELBY — Mrs. Dessie B. Justice Richards, 99, of 134 Hillside Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ann Newton Justice. She was a homemaker and member of Eastside Baptist Church, WMU, longtime member and secretary of Golden Circle Sunday School Class. She loved gardening and was devoted to her family and to her church family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Raymond Richards; one son, Gerald Richards; one brother, Joe Justice; and one sister, Adele Justice. She is survived by a son, Bobby E. Richards of Lattimore; a daughter, Martha Ann Whisnant and husband, Dean, of Shelby; four sisters, Minnie Garver of Shelby, Vada Garver and Bruna Richards of Lawndale and Thomas Willis of Fallston; seven grandchildren, Debbie Crutchfield of Charlotte, Kristy Whisnant of Raleigh, “Richie” and Donnie Richards of Shelby, Johnny and Ricky Richards of Lattimore and Gary Richards of Boone; and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Revs. Frank Garver and Troy Harris and Dr. Leland Kerr officiating. Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late A.J. Grigg and Ms. Geraldine Briscoe on Sept. 27, 1950. He was employed by Cleveland Regional Medical Center. He attended First Baptist Church of Lawndale in Lawndale. In addition to his mother, he leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 32 years, Lois Byrd Briscoe; two sons, Frank Briscoe Jr. and wife, Javona, and Nicolas Gerod Briscoe and fiancée, Leandra Petty, all of Shelby; one daughter, Nicole Jennings and husband, William, of Shelby; five grandchildren, Xavier Jennings, Frank Briscoe III, Deidra Harrison, Anthony Harrison, and Lamar Harrison; one brother, Jesse Briscoe and wife, Mary, of Shelby; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Odessa Byrd; three uncles, L.C. Briscoe and wife, Alma, and G.W. Coates and wife, Bertha, and Louis Briscoe, all of Lawndale; a very special cousin, Georgia Briscoe and spouse, Bobbie, of Clinton, Md.; and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
