HOWARD LEE GILLILAND, SR.
Howard Lee Gilliland, Sr., 88, of Siler City died Friday, November 4, 2011 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation, Siler City.
Mr. Gilliland was born November 22, 1922, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Mary Lila (Dixon) Gilliland. He was a lifelong resident of Chatham County and retired owner-operator of Downtown Phillips 66 Service Station. He was a member of Oakley Baptist Church, a Deacon, former Sunday School Superintendent, Lou Clark Recreational Park Director and was very active for many years in the church. Howard was an avid sportsman and loved gardening. After retirement he worked for the D.O.T. roadside mowing and later became a foreman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Ruby Coble Gilliland, and a daughter, Patricia Ann Gilliland.
He is survived by a son, Howard Lee Gilliland, Jr. and wife, Janice of Cary; a daughter, Pam G. Henson and husband, Greg of Siler City; three sisters, Mozelle G. Fields of Siler City, Shirley G. Edmisten of Siler City, Allene G. Amos of Monticello, GA; a brother, Ray Gilliland of Siler City; grandchildren, Emily Henson and Jack Henson of Siler City; Leslie Gilliland Lynette and husband, Chris of Garner; great granddaughters, Haley, Hannah and Hayden Lynette.
The family received friends Monday, November 7, 2011 from 9:30-11 a.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, 2300 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City, and other times at the home of Pam and Greg Henson, 296 Howard Gilliland Road, Siler City.
The funeral was held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Brian Sandifer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

JOHN DAVID KINTON
John David Kinton, 74, of 2253 Flint Ridge Road, Siler City died Friday, November 4, 2011 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Mr. Kinton was born August 15, 1937, the son of Little John and Janie (Evans) Kinton. He was a native of Granville County and a retired mechanic for the D.O.T. David was a member of Rocky River Baptist Church, a past Deacon and an Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Faye Moon Kinton of the home; a daughter, Patricia K. Brown of Siler City; three sisters, Eloise K. Edwards of Ramseur, , Jackie K. Honeycutt and husband, Darrell of Randleman, Rhonda K. King and husband, Wayne of Bennett; grandsons, Derek and Cody Brown.
The family received friends Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Monday, November 7, 2011 at 3 p.m. at Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City with Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

WILLIAM “BILL” JOHN ESAU
William “Bill” John Esau, 82, of Pittsboro passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Bill was born in Chicago, IL and had lived in New York, Chapel Hill, and most recently in St. Cloud, Florida.
His surviving family includes children, Michael Esau and wife, Peggy, of Terre Haute, IN, Bob Esau and wife, Carol of Pittsboro, and Judy Esau of Charlottesville, VA; grandchildren, Schuyler and Kate Esau, Morgan Esau Roberson, Grant and Maggie Barnes; and great-grandchildren, Megan and Lucy Esau, and Jocelynn Roberson. He also had a special caregiver, Tabitha Cook, of Pittsboro.
Bill was a veteran of the Korean War and earned the purple heart during his service. He spent his career in sales before retiring to Florida. Bill loved magic and enjoyed his Friday lunches in Cary with fellow magicians. He also enjoyed visiting with his friends at Wentworth and Sloan Jewelers in Chapel Hill.
MYRTIE ELLEN OLDHAM CLARK
Myrtie Ellen Oldham Clark, age 95, died at Big Springs Specialty Care Center in Huntsville, Alabama where she was residing, Friday, November 4, 2011 following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Clark was born in Chatham County on December 26, 1915. She worked for Chatham Mills as a Label Inspector until retiring in 1981. Myrtie was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two brothers, W.C. Oldham Jr. of Bear Creek, Joe Earl Oldham of Bear Creek; her sister, Mrs. Elbert Barbara Cook of Siler City; and her nieces and nephews.
Myrtie is preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Clark and her parents, Willis and Lula Oldham.
Services were held Tuesday November 8, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Services were followed by visitation at Emmaus Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall.
FRED THOMAS PUGH, JR.
Mr. Fred Thomas Pugh, Jr., 69, of Pittsboro, died Monday, October 31, 2011 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 4, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Born October 30, 1942 in Randolph County, Fred was the son of Fred T. Pugh, Sr., and Ruth Moffitt Pugh. He was a graduate of NC State in beef cattle management. He retired from Burroughs Wellcome as a purchasing agent, and was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by a brother, David Pugh.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Clark Pugh; sons, Andy Pugh of Pittsboro, Fred T. Pugh, III and wife Mary of Charlotte; and one grandson, William Thomas Pugh.

NADINE SNYDER BRADY
Nadine Snyder Brady, 70, of 138 West Dolphin Street, Siler City died Sunday, November 6, 2011 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill. Mrs. Brady was born September 21, 1941, the daughter of Virgil T. and Swannie Mashburn Snyder.
Mrs. Brady was a native of Chatham County and retired from A. J. Schneierson and Sons. She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former member of the church choir. Nadine loved interior decorating and crafts. She was preceded in death by her father, Virgil T. Snyder and a brother, Roger Snyder.
Survivors include two sons, Todd Brady and wife, Trisha of Denton, Mitchell Brady of Siler City; mother, Swannie Mashburn Snyder of Siler City; a sister, Linda S. Marsh and husband, Charles of Siler City, three brothers, Earl Talmadge Snyder of Greensboro, W. Tony Snyder of Snow Camp, Jerry M. Snyder of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. A graveside service will follow Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, N. Chatham Ave, Siler City with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating.

KATHLEEN GOLDSTON STOUT
Kathleen Goldston Stout, 90, of 503 Hillcrest Avenue, Goldston died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Stout was born April 18, 1921, the daughter of Albert W. and Mary (Moses) Goldston.
Mrs. Stout was a native of Chatham County, retired owner of Kat's Korner in Goldston and co-owner of Goldston Lumber of Pittsboro. She was a member of Goldston United Methodist Church, the UMW, Goldston Women's Club, Goldston Rescue, Sanford Quilting Guild, and the Home Extension Club in Pittsboro. Kathleen was very active in her church and community. She attended Peace College, majoring in Business. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Roy Stout, two brothers, Talmadge and Earl Goldston, and son-in-law, David Talley.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Stout Talley and fiance, Michael Fox of Carthage, Brenda Stout Cook and husband, Jerry of Sanford; other surviving members, Jonathan Talley of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; Kramer Talley of Carthage; Mary Kathleen Talley of Goldston; Ashley Beals and Whitney Beals of the home; and three great-grandchildren, Katie, Sabrina and Dasie.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 9, 2011 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2011 at 4 p.m. at Goldston United Methodist Church Cemetery, 185 Hillcrest Avenue, Goldston with Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating.
Memorials may be directed to Department of Social Services of Chatham and Lee Counties to buy Christmas presents for foster children. The family wishes to thank Liberty Hospice for their loving care and also, thank Rufus Restaurant "Jane Owens" for all the food and care given to Kathleen and the family.

CLYDE BROWN, JR.
Clyde Brown Jr., 73, of 5187 Lewis Brown Road, Bennett died Saturday (10-29-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday (11-01-2011) at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Brown was a Randolph County native and retired from Energizer in Asheboro. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, where he served on the cemetery committee, as an usher, and was a member of the Adult Sunday School class.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pugh Brown of the home; daughter, Penny Rigney of Bennett; son, Timmy Lee Brown of Bennett; sister, Louise Womble of Siler City; brothers, Ernest Brown, Frank Brown, both of Siler City, Vernon Brown of Ramseur, Richard Brown of Pittsboro, Bobby Brown of Bennett, Jimmy Brown of Knightdale, and four grandchildren.

ANNIE MAE HUSSEY WARD ALLISON
Annie Mae Hussey Ward Allison, 79, of Seagrove died Friday (10-28-2011) at Randolph Hospice House.
Funeral services were held Sunday (10-30-2011) at 3 p.m. at Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Bouldin officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Allison was the daughter of the late Eli and Annie M. Hussey. She retired from the textiles industry, was a homemaker, and a member of Riverside Baptist Church..
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Gallimore of Robbins; son, Garry Ward of Asheboro; sister, Marie Garner of Robbins; brother, James Hussey of Seagrove; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

OLLIE C. BURNETTE
Mrs. Ollie C. Burnette, 98, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (10-26-2011) at her home.
Funeral services were held Sunday, (10-30-2011) at Evans Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth Swann officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Burnette was a native of Chatham County. She was a member of Evans Chapel Church where she was a member of the usher board, the senior choir and the lay council.
Survivors include a daughter Rever Burnette of the home; ten great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
VENISHEL WALDEN
Venishel Walden, 65, of Bennett died Sunday, (10-16-2011) at Peak Resources Pine Lake Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (10-20-2011) at Glovers United Church of Christ with Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, she was a member of Glovers Church of Christ and a retired U.S.D.A. inspector.
Survivors include mother, Josie Walden of Siler City; daughters, Amy Alston, Angela Alston, both of Goldston, Debra Perkins of Siler City; sons, Charles Diggs of Charlotte, Henry Lee of Franklinville; sister, JoAnn Dowdy of Carthage; and 16 grandchildren.
