EMMA RUE WOMBLE YANCHURAK
Emma Rue Womble Yanchurak, 91, surrounded by family passed away peacefully Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Eastern Star Home in Bridgewater, NJ.
A native of Siler City, Emma Rue moved to Metuchen, NJ as a bride in 1944. The family later moved to North Brunswick in 1957 where she resided for the next 37 years. She was a member of both the Eastern Star where she was a Past Matron at Mt. Zion Chapter 116, and Post 65 of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an active member of the Georges Road Baptist Church where she was Benevolent Fund Treasurer while residing in New Jersey. While living in North Carolina, she was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church. She especially enjoyed participating in the church women's activities. Emma Rue spent many years as a Cub Scout leader serving as both a Den Mother for nine years and a Den Mother Coach for many additional years. She excelled at teaching young boys activities and crafts. She traveled to New Mexico and Norway while engaged in scout training activities. She also shared in her husband's activities as Scoutmaster where she made many thousands of Christmas bows supporting Troop 50 over the years. She retired after 15 years in 1994 from the Medical Records Department of St. Peter's Hospital, at which time she returned to Siler City for the next eleven years. She spent her final six years back in New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband John, who died in 1974; her parents, Floyd E. and Dillie Ward Womble; her brother, Lloyd Womble; sisters, twin, Mary Sue, Burdine and Leisel Womble.
She is survived by three sons, Peyton (Ellen) of Middlesex, NJ, John Floyd (Pat) of Freehold, NJ, Eugene (Karen) of North Brunswick, NJ.; one grandson, John Yanchurak of North Brunswick, NJ; brother, Lynton Womble of Siler City; sisters, Nancy Dunn of Bonlee, Lila Brewer, Irma Beal and Nadine Short all of Siler City; sister-in-law, Louise Womble and several nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and at other times at the home of her sisters, Nadine Short and Irma Beal, 401 North Fir Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, November 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Boyd, Rev. James Jones, Jr. and Dr. Earl R. Beal officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
LARRY EDWARD SUTTLES
Larry Edward Suttles, 58, of Surf City, NC passed away Saturday, November 12, 2011 at his home. He was born January 16, 1953 in Marion, NC, the son of Joyce Epley Suttles and the late Raymond Suttles of Pittsboro.
Surviving are his children, Megan Suttles and husband Mike Beck of NY, Christopher Suttles of Raleigh and Madison Thomas of Hampstead; brothers, Ray Suttles and wife Kaye of Snow Camp, BJ Suttles and wife Laura of Surf City, Stuart Dixon and wife Jenny of Durham; and sister, Ann Suttles of Wilmington.
Larry had a tremendous love for water and enjoyed boating and fishing. He had a zest for life and treasured the friendships he made with members of the Surf City community and the loyal patrons at the Brass Pelican. He was a kind gentle soul who would give you the shirt off his back. He will be sadly missed by all and particularly by his beloved pets, Figaro, Lucy, Ricky, and Dusty.
Visitation was held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 11:30 - 12:30 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
Services were held Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 1 p.m. at the Bynum United Methodist Church Cemetery
MARY JOAN O’SULLIVAN
Mary Joan O’Sullivan, 88, of Pittsboro died at her home Monday, (10-31-2011).
A memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date.
Mary was born in Chicago IL, July 13, 1923, the daughter of William and Mary Burke.
She is survived by her husband, John O’Sullivan.
ROBERT “BOB” CHARLES WENTWORTH
Mr. Robert “Bob” Charles Wentworth, 64, of Thomasville died Tuesday, (11-01-2011) in Forsyth Medical Center.
A graveside service was held Friday, (11-04-2011) at 10:30 a.m. at Old St. David’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Cheraw, SC.
Mr. Wentworth was born November 7, 1946 in Manchester, NH, a son of the late Frank James Wentworth and Gertrude Louise Robinson Wentworth. A former resident of Siler City, he was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, retired from Ryder Trucking Company and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Thomasville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Mills Wentworth.
Surviving is his daughter, Sarah W. Davison of Lutherville, MD; sister, Nancy Brooks of New Hampshire; brothers, Richard Wentworth of Laurinburg, David G. Wentworth of San Francisco, CA; and three grandchildren.
JOHN HENRY TRIPP
John Henry Tripp, 78, of Siler City died Wednesday, (11-02-2011) at the Chatham Hospital, Inc.
A memorial service was held Saturday, (11-05-2011) at 3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating.
Mr. Tripp was born in Chatham County, August 20, 1933, the son of Robert Henry and Mildred (Bowling) Tripp. He was a retired deputy with the Chatham County Sheriff's Department. He later worked with Wyser Security and retired from Lankford Security Company. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Robert Wayne Tripp.
He is survived by his wife, Jane (Womble) Tripp; daughter, Diane Tripp Lassiter of Chapel Hill; son, John H. Tripp, Jr. of Chapel Hill; sisters, Joyce T. Roberson of Chapel Hill, Betty T. Bunker of Salisbury; brother, Donald Tripp of Chapel Hill; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
JEAN VONCANNON PHILLIPS
Jean Voncannon Phillips, 56, of Bear Creek died Tuesday, (11-01-2011) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Graveside services were held Saturday, (11-05-2011) at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.
Mrs. Phillips was born October 21, 1955, the daughter of William Jenkins and Dorothy (Ferguson) Voncannon, Sr. She was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, she attended CCCC and had been a nurses aide. Jean attended Hickory Grove Baptist Church,. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony W. Phillips, and a granddaughter, Gabrielle N. Phillips.
She is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Phillips of Graham; son, Daniel Phillips of the home; brothers, William J. (Billy) Voncannon, Jr., of Siler City; Greg Voncannon of Talbott, TN, Tommy Voncannon of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters, Anne Voncannon of Dunedin, Fl., and Linda V. Swartout of St. Petersburg, Fl; and one grandson.
BERYL WADE BEAL
Beryl Wade Beal, 91, of Gibsonville died Sunday, (11-06-2011).
Funeral services were held Wednesday, (11-09-2011) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Huggins officiating. Burial followed in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Beal was born April 18, 1920, the daughter of Wade Hampton and Annie (Bradshaw) Siler. She was a native of Bladen County and a homemaker. A member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Beal, Sr., daughter, Reba Stevenson, and sisters, Amey Siler and Christine Usher.
Survivors include daughters, Amey B. Shepherd of Gibsonville, Darlene B. Mitchell of Franklinville; sons, John L. Beal, Jr. of McLeansville, Butch C. Beal of Kernersville, Timothy L. Beal of Randleman; sister, Mary Alice Hancock of Bonlee; brothers, Winfred Siler of Ft. Meade, FL, C. K. Siler of Greensboro, Henry Siler of Homeland, FL, Wayne Siler of Frost Proof, FL; thirteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

FLOSSIE BROWN SMITH
Mrs. Flossie Brown Smith, 99, died Monday, (11-07-2011) at The Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Mrs. Smith was born in Moore County, March 17, 1912. She was retired from Chatham Mills and was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Smith, Sr., and several siblings.
Survivors include a son, William E. “Bubba” Smith, Jr. of Pittsboro; daughters, Frances Cooper of Pittsboro, Lois Paschall of Grant Pass, OR; sisters, Ruby Jackson of Dunn, Katie Heath of Fayetteville. three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. No formal services will be held.
MARGIE ANN NEWBY
Ms. Margie Ann Newby, 73, of Siler City died Wednesday, (11-02-2011) at her home.
Funeral services were held Sunday (11-06-2011) at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity United Holy Church with burial following in Chatham Memorial Park.
Ms. Newby, the daughter of the late David and Pauline Newby was born February 23, 1938. She attended Chatham County Training School and was a graduate of N.C. AT&T State University. She retired as a contract supervisor at the Naval Federal Reserve. A member of Holy Trinity Church, she had served as president of the Pastor’s Aide Auxillary, chairperson of the finance committee, and a member of the Missionary Department. She was a contributing member of the NAACP, served as an elections official and was on the Board of Directors for Chatham Trades.
There are no immediate survivors.
ANGELINA TERESA ALAIMO GRASSI
Mrs. Angelina Teresa Alaimo Grassi, 77, died Saturday, (11-05-2011) at Pittsboro Christian Village.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (11-09-2011) in the Chapel at Pittsboro Christian Village. Private interment was in Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City. Friends visited with the family from 1 – 1:45 p.m. in the parlor adjacent to the chapel.
Born in Yonkers, NY on September 22, 1934, she was the daughter of Gasper Alaimo and Theresa Ranellone Alaimo. Mrs. Grassi was a retired administrator in the telecommunications industry. She was a member of Pittsboro Bible Congregation at Pittsboro Christian Village.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Grassi of the home; son, Joel Grassi of Bronx, NY; and a sister, Antoinnette Ciccarone of Yonkers, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents.
FLORA VIRGINIA WILLIAMS GRIMES
Virginia Williams Grimes passed away Saturday, November 05, 2011, at Universal Health Care in Ramseur after several months of declining health.
Mrs. Grimes is survived by her son, John and wife Cecilia Grimes of Siler City; daughter, Kathy and husband Jim Januzelli of Lawrenceville, Georgia; five grandchildren, John Thomas and wife Alysia Grimes of Clemmons, Stephen and wife Marcia Grimes of Siler City, Jason and wife Jennifer Januzelli of Norcross, GA. Jamye and husband Joe Giametta of Lawrenceville, GA. and Josh and wife Jessie Januzelli of Canton, GA.; nine great-grandchildren, Alaina, Jonathan, Abigail, Tucker, Sophia, Carter, Elliott, MiMi, Addyson and many nieces and nephews.
Virginia Grimes was born on May 4, 1923, and was the ninth child (and sixth daughter) of eleven children born to Henry Sylvester and Flora Mae (Morton) Williams of Spencer. She grew up in a railroad family with her father and brothers, Cayce and Henry, serving as engineers on the Southern Railway. Her father was a Primitive Baptist preacher with pastorates in Stanly County and in Denton.
She lived most of her life in Davie County, where she raised her family, but moved to Siler City in her later years when her health was in decline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.F. Grimes, Jr.; her parents; and all ten siblings, Leona, Quintina, Roy, Beatrice, Glenna, Cayce, Juanita, Henry, Ruth, and Peggy.
The graveside service, led by John Thomas Grimes, her oldest grandson, was held at Rowan Memorial Park on Sunday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. where she was laid to rest by her husband of forty-eight years. Chad Gaines provided music. Pallbearers were Jason Januzelli, Josh Januzelli, Jim Januzelli, John Thomas Grimes, Jonathan Grimes, and Stephen Grimes.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kind and compassionate care by her many caregivers, especially Liberty Homecare and Hospice in Siler City and later Universal Healthcare and Hospice of Randolph County. The family is especially grateful to Diane Beal, Angelia Taylor, Sally Parker, and Krista Welch who were exemplary in their attentiveness to her care and comfort.
