PEARL E. GLADWELL
Pearl E. Gladwell, 100, a longtime resident of Chippewa Falls, WI, died Monday, September 9, 2013.
She was born August 22, 1913, in Stanley to William W. and Ella Mae (Tinker) Tusken.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Thompson of Siler City, N.C.; a brother, Lewis (Sally) Tusken of Oshkosh; a sister, Janet Domiano of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and a sister-in-law, Mae Ryan of Chippewa Falls. She is further survived by three grandchildren, Cynthia (Terence) Harper of Snellville, Ga., Steve (Vivian) Thompson of Cadott, Ellen Hutchison of Siler City, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Katherine and Hayden Thompson and Eric Harper.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin on March 5, 2000; a brother, Earl Tusken; a sister, Josephine Frion; twin brother and sister, Ray and Ruth Tusken in infancy; a half-brother, John Tusken; and a half-sister, Marjorie Adler.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, September 13 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel & Cremation Services, Chippewa Falls, WI is serving the family.
ARCHIE QUINTON SHIELDS
Archie Quinton Shields, 87, of High Falls, passed away Wednesday, (09-04-20130, at his home.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m Saturday, (09-07-2013) at Beulah Baptist Church with Dr. Neal Jackson and Rev. Jamie Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Mr. Shields was a Moore County native, and was born September 16, 1925. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Aggie Shields, brothers, Lynn and Edgar Shields, sisters, Dorothy Garner, Eula Phillips, and Marie Maness. He was a retired Supervisor from Burlington Industries in Ramseur, and was an Army Veteran where he served in World War II. He was a member and former Deacon at Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Era Mae Shields; daughters, Vickie S. Inguanti, of Kennesaw, GA, Kathy S. Austin of Charlotte: son, Greg Shields of High Falls; sisters, Beatrice Hill of High Falls, Lucy Wallace of Bennett; and two grandchildren.

KATHLEEN FOX SMITH
Kathleen Fox Smith, 89, formerly of Siler City, died Wednesday, (09-04-2013) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living Center in Pittsboro.
Funeral services were held Friday, (09-06-2013) at 4 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, with Pastor Bobby Shutt and Dr. Harold Venable officiating. A graveside service followed at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith was born December 19, 1923 in Alamance County, to Charlie Jasper Fox and Nora Belle Thompson.
A homemaker, she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Heiskell Ernest Smith and sister, Mary Fox Patterson.
Survivors include daughters, Margaret Smith Young of Reidsville, Carolyn Smith Handley of Siler City; sons, Ernest, Ronald, Mike, Donald, all of Siler City, Randy of Bear Creek; brother, Charlie Franklin Fox of Alamance County; 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

GARRETTE EARLE PHILLIPS
Garrette Earle Phillips, of Bear Creek, died Wednesday, (09-04-2013) at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Saturday, (09-07-2013) at Fair Promise United Methodist Church, with Rev. Tony Baurichter officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was born July 24, 1940, the son of the late W. Barringer and Velma Jones Phillips. He graduated from Bonlee High School and enjoyed a career in radio announcing. Later, he was an installer for AC Corporation and delivered papers for the Courier Tribune. He was a life-time member of Fair Promise UMC, where he was church organist for several decades. He gave many hours of volunteer work advocating for people with chemical sensitivities. He was awarded a proclamation from the governor recognizing “Multiple Chemical Awareness Week” in the state of North Carolina
Survivors include a son, Gary Phillips of the home; and a brother, Gerald Phillips of Siler City.

DOUGLAS MacARTHUR HAITH
Mr. Douglas MacArthur Haith died Friday (09-06-2013) at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, (09-10-2013) at Rock Creek AME Church.
Mr. Haith was born April 27, 1943, to William and Cora Beatrice Martin Haith in Rock Creek. He attended schools in Alamance and Chatham Counties. He was a brick mason and was a member of Rock Creek Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William, James, Royzell, Leon, Hilliard, Herbert, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Hedgepeth.
Survivors include daughters, Shanra Haith Young, Christy Haith, both of Greensboro; sister, Yvonne Whitmore of Mebane; and brother, Johnny Haith of Pittsboro.
FLORENCE THRIFT
Florence Hicks Thrift, 83 of Asheboro, formerly of Siler City died Friday (09-06-2013) at the home of her daughter.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Thrift was born May 20, 2930 in Chatham County, the daughter of Charlie and Elizabeth Ann (Yow) Hicks. She worked 30 years for Hadley Peoples. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Thrift, son, Arliss Eugene Thrift, two brothers, Mack and John Hicks, and two sisters, Marandy Hicks Jones and Nancy Hicks Ellis.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth“Lib” Jones of Asheboro; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
The family will be at the home of her daughter at 202 Westbury Drive, Asheboro.

MICHAEL PATRICK CREADOR
Michael Patrick Creador, 44, of Broadway, died Saturday, (09-07-2013, at Central Carolina Hospital.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, (09-11-2013) at 11 a.m. at Broadway Town Cemetery with Pastor Ruth Holder and Rev. Hilda Rosser presiding
Mr. Creador was born on March 22, 1969, in San Jose, California.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Michael Joseph Creador and Martha Allene Haire Creador; his wife, Katherine Allen Creador; a son, Michael Medaros Creador; a brother, Marshall Anthony Creador of Sanford; and two grandchildren.
MARY ANN BULLINGTON
Mary Ann Bullington, 74, of Pittsboro died Sunday, (09-01-2013).
Her remains were donated to the UNC-Chapel Hill Medical School.
A native of Graham, she was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Bullington, her parents, Victor and Lena King, a brother Wilson King, sisters, Patricia King Haley and Grace Cruse.
Survivors include a daughter, DeAnn Chandler of Richfield; sons, Steven Bradshaw of Pittsboro, Michael Coble; and several grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Council on Aging in Pittsboro.
GLENDA SAUNDERS JOHNSON
Glenda Saunders Johnson, 60, of Siler City died Saturday, (09-07-2013) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
The family will receive friends Thursday, (09-12-2013) from, 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at Meroney United Methodist Church,. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Johnson was a native of Cabarrus County and was born on February 11, 1953. She was the daughter of Calvin and Bobbie (Almond) Saunders. She was employed by Robins & Ghant and attended Meroney United Methodist Church. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Elbert Johnson and a brother, Gerald Saunders.
Survivors include sons, Tommy Johnson and Christopher Johnson, both of Siler City; sister, Linda S. Pendergrass of Siler City; brothers, Eddie Saunders of Asheboro, Randy Saunders, Jackie Saunders and Darryl Saunders, all of Greensboro; and one granddaughter.
Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the Johnson family.

FAITH ANN EVANS DOVE
Mrs. Faith Ann Evans Dove, 49, of Sanford, died Tuesday, (08-27-2013), in Goldston, following an auto accident.
A memorial service was held Saturday, (08-31-2013), at Bethany Baptist Church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Leslie Puryear officiating.
She was born in Webster, PA on November 22, 1963, to Robert Harold Evans of Sanford and Barbara Beear Evans. She was preceded in death by her mother and a brother, Robert Evans, Jr. Mrs. Dove served our county in the United States Army, and was a school cafeteria employee.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Derick Keith Dove, Sr.; a son, Derick Keith Dove, Jr. of Sanford; and a brother, Dan Evans of PA.
JACK BROWNE
Mr. Jack Browne, 80, of Pittsboro, passed away Sunday, (08-25-2013) after a long illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, (09-02-2013) from St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Fr. James Labosky will offer the mass. Cremation will follow, and inurnment will be held at a later date in Ireland.
Jack was born in NY City and worked for General Electric Credit Co. for 35 years. He retired to Fearrington Village in 1993. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Catherine Browne of Knockerra Co. Clare Ireland; his brother, Tom; sister, Eileen; and twin sister, Rita.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Claire; son, Michael Liam; one grandson; and his sister, May.
JAMES THOMAS STONE
James Thomas Stone, 86, of Sanford, died Sunday, 09-01-2013), at Central Carolina Hospital.
The funeral was held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel, Wednesday, (09-04-2013) at 3 p.m. with Dr. Rudy Holland and Rev. Royce Baker presiding. The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m., prior to the service. Burial followed at Grace Chapel Church Cemetery.
Mr. Stone was born in Chatham County, on June 13, 1927, to the late James Edgar Stone and Gertie Melton Stone. He was preceded in death by brothers, Caley Ray Stone, Guy Stone; sisters, Cornelia Gonella and Faye Eads. He was a member of Grace Chapel Church and retired from Beach Ford Car Dealership. Mr. Stone served his country in the US Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jewell Coggin Stone of the home; son, James Thomas Stone, Jr. of Sanford; daughter, Joy Stone Barnes of Sanford; and five grandchildren.
EMILY CHEEK CARTER
Emily Cheek Carter, 82, died Sunday, (09-01-2013) at Coventry House of Siler City.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, (09-04-2013) in Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Folks officiating.
Emily was born June 8, 1931 to William and Ethel Carter. She graduated from Women’s College (UNCG) and taught school for many years in North Carolina and Virginia. She attended Piney Grove Church and First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by parents and a brother, William “Bill” Oliver Carter, Jr.
Surviving is a sister, Louise C. Ivey.
Memorials may be made to Chatham County Animal Rescue.
MONNIE HOLDER SULLIVAN
Mrs. Monnie Holder Sullivan, 90, died Saturday, (08-31-2013), at Central Carolina Hospital.
The funeral was held Monday, (09-02-2013), at 2 p.m. at Barbecue Presbyterian Church where she was a member, with Rev. Sandy Williams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Sullivan was born on October 25, 1922, in Harnett County to the late Andrew Jackson Holder and Sarah Margaret “Maggie” Thomas Holder. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Richard Sullivan, a son, John Richard Sullivan, Jr., and a brother, Clayton Holder. She worked thirty-five years at Wenger’s Restaurant.
Survivors include daughters, Ruby Sullivan Campbell of Sanford, Margaret Sullivan Holder of Nags Head; son, George Andrew Sullivan, Sr. of Sanford; sister, Zula McIver of Olathe, Kansas; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and eleven great-great grandchildren.
