TERRY LYNN POE
Terry Lynn Poe, 61, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, (11-12-2013) at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, (11-19-2013) at Staley Baptist Church, with Rev. Clifford Williams and Rev. Andrew Hurlburg officiating. Burial followed in Staley Cemetery.

A native of Randolph County, he was a graduate of Asheboro High School. Terry has served as organist at Trinity U.M.C. for over 35 years. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University and a member of the American Guild of Organists. He was a retired educator/mentor and teacher, having served the Wake County Public schools for 34 years. He was named “Secondary Teacher of the Year” by the Wake County PTA Executive Council in 1988. He served as Chapel Organist at St. Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh for 5 years and as Accompanist/Associate Director of the Raleigh Boy Choir for 20 years.

Surviving is his sister, Cheryl Poe Sechrest.

Memorials may be made to, Staley Baptist Church, 440 W. Railroad Street, Staley, NC 27355, or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 824 North Bloodworth Street, Raleigh, NC 27604.

WESLEY BRYANT PARRISH
Mr. Wesley Bryant Parrish, Sr., 89, of Sanford, died Thursday, (11-14-2013) at his home.

A graveside service was held Friday, (11-15-2013) at 11 a.m. at Shallow Well Cemetery with Chaplin Joel Cameron officiating.

Mr. Parrish was born in Lee County on August 29, 1924 to the late Alton Lee Parrish and Lydia Jane Dalrymple Parrish. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by brothers Gordon, Stanley, Alton, Ernest Parrish and sisters Gerline McNeill, Nettie Reid Smith and Leola Calcutt. Bryant was a self-employed plaster contractor. He served our country in the US Army during WW II.

Survivors include sons, Wesley Bryant Parrish, Jr., Dwight Lee Parrish; daughter Debbie Parrish Allen; sister Almeta McNeill all of Sanford; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

DENNIS STEPHEN MASON
Dennis Stephen Mason, 72 of Sanford died Thursday, (11-14-2013), at Parkview Retirement Center.

The funeral was conducted Saturday, (11-16-2013), at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gilbert W. McDowell. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mason was born in Morehead City on November 27, 1940, to the late Clyde Mason and Hester Davenport Mason. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jencey Leonard and a half-brother, Clyde Mason, Jr. Mr. Mason served his country in the US Army. He was an insurance adjuster by trade in Roanoke, VA and in Charlotte, NC.

Surviving relatives include his wife Patricia Ann Pierce Mason of the home and a brother Joseph Van Mason of Havelock.

Memorials may be made to The St. Andrews Manse Remodeling Fund, 5422 St. Andrews Church Road, Sanford, NC 27332.

ROBERT “BOBBY” EARNEST McGHEE
Mr. Robert “Bobby” Earnest McGhee, 57, of Chapel Hill passed away Wednesday (11-13-2013) at UNC Hospitals.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (11-17-2013) at Merritt’s Chapel United Methodist Church, with Dr. Richard Tysinger presiding. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. McGhee was the son of Frances Markham McGhee and the late James Robert McGhee. He worked at UNC Facilities and Services for 30 years before retiring. He also served as a volunteer fireman and First Responder for North Chatham Fire Department for 25 years. Bobby served on the Board of Directors for many years until his death.

Survivors include his mother, Frances McGhee of Chapel Hill; brothers, Ray McGhee of Mebane and Chris McGhee ofChapel Hill.

Memorials may be made to the North Chatham Fire Department, 45 Morris Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312; and also to Merritt’s Chapel UMC Cemetery Fund, 1090 Farrington Point Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27517.

SEYMOUR LEWIS KUNIN
Seymour Lewis Kunin, 88 of Pittsboro died Thursday, (11-14-2013).

Arrangements are being handled by Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation in Pittsboro.

Cheryl Ann McNew, 52 of Pittsboro died Monday, (11-14-2013).

Arrangements are being handled by Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation, Pittsboro.

ROBERT FRAZIER
Mr. Robert Frazier, 80, passed away Sunday, (11-17-2013) at the Randolph Hospice Home in Asheboro.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, (11-20-2013) at 2 p.m. at Gees Grove AME Zion Church, with visitation from 1 to 2 at the church.

Survivors include sons, Keith Frazier, Tyler Frazier; daughter, Virginia Jones; brothers, Willie Frazier, Buddy Frazier, Roy Earl Frazier, all of Siler City, Roy Lee of Raleigh; sisters, Nannie Mae Alston of New York, Martha Brower, Ola McClenon, Ella Horton, all of Siler City; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

WALKER FRANKLIN WHITE
Mr. Walker Franklin White died Thursday (11-14-2013) at Hospice Home, Burlington.

Funeral services were held Sunday (11-17-2013) at 2 p.m. at Burnette Chapel Church in Graham.

Survivors include his children, William F. White of the home, George White of Silk Hope, Julius White of Seagrove, Kenneth White of Charlotte, Joseph Glover, and Helen Dark of Snow Camp; brothers, Tommy White, Joseph White, both of Graham; sister, Francis Alston of Graham; 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

ALLENE BARKER HART
Allene Barker Hart, 80, of Old Plank Road, Siler City died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Burlington.

Mrs. Hart was born in Chatham County, June 16, 1933, the daughter of Johnie Henry and Dena (Hicks) Barker. She was employed by A J Schneierson for over 30 years and had also worked in the cafeteria for the Chatham County Schools. Allene was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rachel Barker and brother, David Barker.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Junnie Hart; daughter, Cheryl Garrett and husband, Stephen of Liberty; son, Terry Hart of Siler City; grandchildren, Ashley and Jonathan Garrett; sisters, Juanita Richardson, Virginia Justice, Frances Gilmore, all of Siler City, Christine Harris of High Point; brothers, Johnie Barker, Jr. of Bennett, Earl Barker of Sanford and Virgil Barker of Siler City.

The family received friends Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

The funeral followed at 2 p.m. in the Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Shelly Dial offering. Burial followed in Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Bear Creek.

LOVIE THOMPSON

Mrs. Lovie Thompson, affectionately known as Daughtie, died on Sunday, November 17, 2013 at NC Memorial Hospital of Chapel Hill.

For the previous three years she had resided at Twin Rivers in Pittsboro. Lovie was 94 years old. We would like to give a special thanks to Debbie Morris, LaDonna Moody, Pat Ellis, Karen Davis, and Katie Hudson who so lovingly cared for Lovie the past year and a half. We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire staff of Twin Rivers for all the kindness and love they gave Lovie the past three years.

Lovie is survived by her nephew Richard Bradley and his wife Lee of Pittsboro, their daughter Rebecca, and son-in-law Stephen of Apex. She had many nieces including Joy Anderson and her husband Walt and daughter Scarlet of Rocky Mount and Cindy of Hawaii, Marie (Zooda) Harrell of Williamsburg, Va., Dinah Pitts of Toano, Va., Faye Boyd of Timberlake and her daughter Kim of Rougemont, Sheila Moose and her husband Ed of Kernersville and daughter Sherri of Rocky Mount, and Gladys Flemming and Wyoming Irving both from Leggett, North Carolina.

Anyone who knew Lovie knew how she loved gardening. At ninety years old, you could have found her many days out in her garden chopping weeds. Her other passions were her church (Williams Primitive Baptist Church ), her family, sewing (which was also her occupation), quilting, and visiting with friends. Lovie was treasurer of her beloved Primitive Baptist Church for approximately 60 years.

The family will receive visitors on Friday, November 22nd from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 396 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312. The funeral will be held on Saturday, November 23 at 2 p.m. at Williams Primitive Baptist Church at 1868 White Oak Swamp Road, Whitakers, NC 27891 with Elder Johnny Ray Gardener officiating. Burial will be in Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro.

HENRY ALEX BAXTER
Mr. Henry Alex Baxter, 91 of Bennett, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Asheboro. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 8, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church in Bennett, with Rev. Tim Strider and Rev. Edwin Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Baxter was a native of Chatham County, son of the late Huey Alexander Baxter, and Gladys Kyle Smith Baxter. Henry served in the US Navy in World War II. He owned and operated Baxter Service Station in Bennett for over 50 years. He served on the founding board of the Bennett Fire Dept., Bennett water line, as well as building the Bennett Speedway. He loved to deer hunt, fish, watch baseball, and bush hog with his tractor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Colleen Moore Baxter, son-in-law Mike Fields, and several brothers and sisters.

Mr. Baxter leaves two loving daughters, Karen B. Fields of Bennett, Sherree B. Menius and husband Ed of Asheboro; grandchildren, Chad Fields and wife Lauren of Cary, Chuck Fields and wife Ashlea of Raleigh, Carmen Fields of Vienna, VA; step-grandchildren, Katie Lagos and husband Will of Richmond, VA, Elizabeth Wilson and husband Tim of Fuquay-Varina; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Claire, and Brady Fields of Cary, Brooke and Caleb Fields of Raleigh, William, Sam, and Annalise Lagos of Richmond, VA; and his special companions, grand dogs, Zack and Zoie.

Visitation will be held Thursday evening, November 7, 2013, from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham St., Bennett, NC 27208, and other times, at the home of his daughter Karen Fields in Bennett. You may.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bennett Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 91, Bennett, NC 27208.

Arrangements are entrusted to Joyce-Brady Chapel.

PAMELA PETTY CHAMPION
Pamela Petty Champion, of Lake Orion, MI, went home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2013 at age 55. Beloved wife of Mark Champion, loving mother of Doug and Rachel Collins. Step-mother of Nicole Cohn, Carly Fleming and Evan Champion. Step-grandmother of Xander and Sophia Grillo. Dear daughter of Barbara and the late George Petty. Sister to Jennifer (Terry) Stokes and the late Jeff Petty. Aunt of Alyssa and Thomas Stokes. Pam was the Music Administrator at Kensington Community Church. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service was held Saturday, November 16 at 11 a.m. at Kensington Community Church in Troy, MI, with burial at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Silk Hope, NC at a later date.

GLYDERLEEN “GWEN” PANDORA GRIFFIN THOMAS
Mrs. Glyderleen “Gwen” Pandora Griffin Thomas, age 91, of Sanford, died Tuesday, (11-05-2013) at Liberty Commons of Sanford.

A graveside service was held Friday, (11-08-2013) at 4 p.m. at Buffalo Cemetery with Rev. Robbie Gibson and Pastor Kevin McHarg officiating.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Nash County on April 17, 1922 to the late Solomon David Griffin and Sallie G. Griffin. She was also preceded in death by siblings, Teaco Pickard, Odez Gaines, Ferice Johnson, Algora Griffin, Kurg Griffin, Diarous “D.D.” Griffin and Solomon David “S.D.” Griffin. Mrs. Thomas was a member of Rocky Fork Christian Church and a homemaker. She had earlier worked at Efirds Department Store.

Surviving are sons, Dale Thomas and Tim Thomas, both of Sanford; one sister, Clarissa Griffin Johnson of Sanford; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Hospice, 1005 Carthage Street, Sanford, NC 27330.

FAYDINE OPAL ELLIS TISDALE
Faydine Opal Ellis Tisdale, 71, of Siler City died Thursday, (11-07-2013).

The graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday (11-10-2013) at Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mary Ellen Bender officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Tisdale was born June 4, 1942, the daughter of John M. and Mary Edna Johnson Ellis. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and member of Hickory Mountain United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by husband, Garland Tisdale; brothers, Willie Ellis, George Ellis, Buck Ellis, Gilbert Ellis; sisters, Margaret Oakley and Etta Mae Mann.

She is survived by daughter, Linda Faye Moody; sons, Thomas Edward Foushee, Clarence “Peanut” Foushee, Kenneth Ray Foushee; sister, Annie Ring; brothers, James Ellis, Grady Ellis, and Bernice Ellis,.

KENNETH WAYNE SIMMONS

Mr. Kenneth Wayne Simmons, 56, formerly of Bennett, passed away Thursday, (11-07-2013), at Randolph Health and Rehabilitation in Asheboro.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, (11-11-2013), at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he was a member with Jimmy Hill officiating.

Mr. Simmons was a native of Chatham County, and the son of Reid J. and Flossie Mae Cox Simmons. He was a self-employed farmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Jill Simmons of Bennett; son, Jeff Simmons of Bennett; sisters, Rama Maness, Linda Allred, Sharon Simmons, all of Bennett, Betty Asbill of Asheboro; and two granddaughters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Brain Aneurysm Foundation, 269 Hanover Street, Building 3, Hanover, MA02339.

ELAINE ZIMMERMAN STEPHENS
Elaine Zimmerman Stephens, 83, of Carthage died Thursday, (11-07-2013) at the VA Medical Center in Durham.

Services were held Tuesday, (11-12-2013) at 2 p.m. at St. Julia Catholic Parish, with Father Jim Fukes officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mrs. Stephens was born October 6, 1930 in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Lisle and Marion (Wood) Zimmerman. She was a homemaker, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinehurst and St. Julia’s Catholic Parish of Siler City. Elaine had worked at the Pentagon while serving in the Navy from 1952 – 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Sherry Rose.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, James Stephens of Carthage; three sons, two daughters; brother, Curtis Zimmerman of Canada; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation or a Veteran’s Charity of choice.
