CATHERINE ALSTON
Mrs. Catherine Alston, 74, of Siler City passes away on Saturday, (12-06-2014) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (12-11-2014) at Glovers Grove AME Zion Church with burial following in Chatham Memorial Park.
Surviving is a daughter, Caterina Alston and one sister, Hazel Headen.
WALTER EDWARD SHUE
Walter Edward Shue, 88, was welcomed home into the arms of his savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, December 3, 2014. His parents, Harvey Leslie Shue, Sr. and Lizzie Dale Smith Shue, who preceded him in death, passed away when he was a child and he spent his early childhood at the Junior Home Orphanage in Tiffin, Ohio. When he grew older he lived with his brothers and sisters. He served in the Merchant Marines and later moved to Sile City. He retired as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in Siler City.
He is survived by his wife: Cristina (Cimino) Shue of Siler City; daughters, Brenda Brady and husband, Donnie of Jamestown, NC, Gloria A. Terry and husband, Joe of Asheboro; step-daughter, Monica Goodwin and husband, Douglas of Siler City, NC; seven grandchildren, Brian Brady, Carrie Thurman, Alyssa Gaetani, Brandon and Jackson Goodwin, Wendy Holland and Joey Terry; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who called him “Uncle E”.
He was a faithful member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church which he loved and supported throughout his life.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
The family received friends Friday, December 5, 2014 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City with Dr. Tripp Foltz officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

GERRY ALAN PHILLIPS
Gerry Alan Phillips, 64, of NC Hwy 42, Bear Creek died Friday, December 5, 2014 at First Health Hospital, Pinehurst.
Gerry was born in Chatham County on August 21, 1950, the son of Wade Herman and Lois Smith Phillips. Gerry was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday School, was a former member of the choir and will be remembered for his beautiful singing voice. He was a 1968 graduate of Chatham Central High School and attended Elon College. He was employed by Ramtex for 37 years, was an avid hunter and fisherman and was known for his athletic abilities. He attended Karate Class and was proud of being recognized as a 1st Dan Black Belt. His greatest joys were times spent with his family, and he will be remembered as a loving, giving person.
Gerry was preceded in death by an infant son, Gregory Alan Phillips and a daughter, Crystal Lynne Phillips.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy King Phillips; his parents, Herman and Lois Smith Phillips; sister, Cheryl Baldwin; a host of nieces and nephews and his best buddy, canine companion, Jack.
The family received friends Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.
The funeral was held Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church, 1745 Fall Creek Church Road, Bennett, NC 27208 with Rev. Scott Allmon and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

VIRGINIA LAMBERT WOOD
Virginia Lambert Wood was born on February 4, 1916 and died on December 5, 2014. She was the wife of Harry DuPrey Wood, Jr, deceased. Her children are Harry DuPrey Wood, III, Edwin Lambert Wood, deceased, and Sue Wood McLendon. Her grandchildren are Edwin Lambert Wood, Jr, Harry DuPrey Wood, IV, Raymond Tyler Wood, Elizabeth Wood McLendon, Emily Lambert McLendon; and her great grandchildren are Jessica, Sammy, Lindsey, and Lilly.
Born on February 4, 1916 in Asheboro, NC to Wiley Fisher Lambert and Sue Brooks Lambert, Mrs. Wood graduated High School and then she graduated in 1936 from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She sat as a Member of the Board of Trustees in later years. In 1940 she married the Reverend Harry DuPrey Wood Jr. Together they served, Angier Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Eden, NC. While in Eden, Mrs. Wood taught elementary school, served as president of WMU, Rockingham County as well as the executive board of WMU in Raleigh, NC.
In 1980, the Rev and Mrs. Wood moved to Frankfurt, Germany for almost ten years. While he served as pastor of Bethel International Baptist Church, Mrs. Wood was elected president of the Women’s Missionary of Europe.
Virginia Wood lived in Chester for ten years. As a member of Chester Baptist Church, she played the piano for Sunday School and the bi-monthly Companion Dinners. The Woman’s Club benefited from her musical talent as she was the pianist for the annual fashion show. She was an avid bridge player and played at two times a week.
As a world traveler and an active lover of mankind, Virginia Lambert Wood served God enthusiastically, leaving her footprint of the love of Christ wherever she went.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Chester Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Chester Baptist Church with Dr. Lloyd Braswell officiating. Interment followed at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, December 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. where Virginia will be buried beside Rev. Harry D. Wood Jr., her husband.

HERMAN RAY PHILLIPS
Mr. Herman Ray Phillips, 71, of Bennett, N.C. died Monday, December 8, 2014 at Hospice of Randolph County in Asheboro, N.C.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Pine Mountain Friends Church with Rev. Joey Green officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at Joyce Brady Chapel in Bennett, and at other times at the farm house at 920 Calvin Phillips Road, Bennett, N.C.
Herman (Ray) was born December 4, 1943, son of the late Randall Edison Phillips and Estie Ellen Maness.
Herman (Ray) worked for Lancer Corporation and Comfort Tech Inc. for 44 years serving as Vice President.
He was a Master wood craftsman and carpenter and spent many years restoring the family farmhouse. He collected old toys, loved to hunt, restore old tractors and was an avid, passionate golfer. Herman was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Cheryl Green.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol Lee Phillips of the home; one son, Ritchie Ray Phillips and one sister, Jenny Yow of Bennett, two grandchildren, Katie and Jacob Phillips, both of Bennett.
ESTHER RICH BRADY
Esther Rich Brady, 81, of Bennett, died Monday, (11-24-2014) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, (11-29-2014), at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, with Rev. Mark Strickland and Rev. Shelley Dial officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Esther was a native of Randolph County, retired from Randolph Hospital and a member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mattie Taylor Rich.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Brady; daughters, Jane Caviness of Siler City, Elizabeth Chrisco of Bennett; sons, Thomas Leon Brady, Jr., of Bennett, Keith Brady of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM REGINALD “REGGIE” WILSON
Mr. William Reginald “Reggie” Wilson, 55, of Bennett, died Tuesday, (11-25-2014) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
He is the son of William D. and Mozelle Wilson of Bennett. A Chatham County native, he worked at Bennett Farm Supply for several years.
Reggie is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patsy English Wilson of the home; and sister, Regina Laton of West End.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Chatham County Animal Services, 725 Renaissance Drive, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

WILBUR LEE BAKER
Wilbur Lee Baker, 75, of Sanford, died Sunday, (11-30-2014), at his home.
A funeral was held at Euphronia Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, (12-03-2014), 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Keith Miller presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Baker was born May 20, 1939, in Harnett County, to the late Weaver Cleveland and Essie Ashworth Baker. He was preceded in death by his brother James Calvin “JC” Baker and sisters, Clara Baker Betts, Callie Baker Cotten and Berlina Baker Seagroves. He served in the US Army. He was retired as a master carpenter in construction of residential homes. Mr. Baker was a member of Euphronia Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder.
Surviving relatives include his wife Bobbie Castleberry Baker of Sanford; a son, Joseph Lee Baker of Sanford; a daughter Patricia Baker Coleman of Sanford; and five grandchildren.
SHIRLEY J. PITT
Mrs. Shirley J. Pitt, 74, of Sanford, died Saturday, (11-29-2014) at her home.
A graveside service was held Tuesday, (12-02-2014), at 1 p.m. at Cameron Grove Cemetery with Chaplain Wayne Lamb officiating.
Mrs. Pitt was born in Harnett County, on January 27, 1940, to the late William Edward and Nora Brown Thomasson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Pitt; a son, Barry Becker, and by sisters, Sue T. Kelly and Blanche Kruse. Mrs. Pitt was a retired caregiver.
She is survived by sons, Kevin Becker and Richard Keith Becker, both of Margate, FL; a daughter, Deborah Becker Abernathy of Sanford; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
JANICE MAY BROOKS
Pittsboro: Mrs. Janice May Brooks, 62, died Tuesday, (11-25-2014), at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro. She was the daughter of the late George Howard Fields and Elma Caddell Fields. She worked as a secretary in the furniture business. She attended Brush Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Eli Brooks of the home in Bear Creek; daughter, Brandy Brooks of the home; sister, Ann Fields Brooks of Siler City; brother, Robert DeWayne Fields of Carthage.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Joyce-Brady Chapel is serving the Brooks family.
DONA B. HENNEY KING
Dona B. Henney King, 86, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (11-25-2014).
Visitation will be held Sunday, (12-07-2014) from 12 to 2 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Griffin Chapel.
Ms. King is survived by a son, Matthew Elon Henney of Charlotte.
Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel is serving the King Family.
