JOHN LARRY BURKE
John Larry Burke, 68, of Siler City died Wednesday, (02-05-2014) at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (02-08-2014) at 3 p.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Mark Richardson and Ashley Wilkie officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.
Mr. Burke was born in Chatham County on March 26, 1945, the son of John Elwood and Edna (Dowd) Burke. He was a member of Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He had worked for 36 years at Kayser Roth in both Goldston and Pittsboro. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Ann Burke.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Fannie (Lopossay) Burke; sons, Michael Burke, Jeff Burke, both of Siler City; sisters, Mary Catherine Green of Pittsboro, Mamie Lee Hall, Bonnie Allen, both of Siler City, Flida Smith, Ellen Dixon, both of Silk Hope, Helen King of Alexandria, VA; brothers, Buddy Burke of Siler City, Roger Burke of Pittsboro; and eight grandchildren.

LINDA SUE HILL
Linda Sue Hill, 67, of Siler City, died Wednesday, (02-05-2014) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Sunday, (02-09-2014) at 2 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Womack Keck officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Ms. Hill was the daughter of the late Robert Millikan and Sarah Elizabeth Craven Millikan, was also a native of Randolph County, and a retired sewer. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Carol Moore, and brothers Talbert and Johnny Millikan.

She is survived by her husband, James R. Hill; daughter, Alesia Hill of the home; sisters, Nancy Stoker of Thomasville, Myrtle Carter of Cedar Falls, Elsie Gray of Randleman. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

ROBERT “Bob” EARL RUSSELL, SR.
Robert “Bob” Earl Russell, Sr. 74, of Siler City died Sunday, (02-09-2014) at his residence.
The funeral services were held Monday (02-10-2014) at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Wesleyan Church with Rev. Roger Coburn and Jack Cheek officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Russell was born in Richmond, Virginia on July 7, 1939, the son of the late John W. and Myrtle Keith Russell. Bob was a Navy veteran, and attended Bethlehem Wesleyan Church. He was a retired owner-operator, long distance truck driver. Bob was preceded in death by daughters, Terri Lynn and Cindy Russell.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Andrews Russell of the home; daughters, Elizabeth Jean Perrington of Moorsebury, TN, Tina R. Hagwood of Clayton, Susan Sherman of Fredericksburg, VA, Connie Wilkie of Apex; sons, Robbie Russell, Jr. of Pittsboro, Randy Rock of Burbank, CA; and twelve grandchildren.

ROGER BOYD
Roger Boyd, 65, of Sanford, died Saturday, (02-08-2014), at First Health Moore Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at Rocky Fork Christian Church, Tuesday, (02-11-2014) at 12 noon with Pastor Kevin McHarg presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mr. Boyd was born in Moore County, on May 12, 1948, to the late Joseph Boyd and Connie Davis Boyd. He worked for Static Control as a machinist.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Boyd of Cameron; sons, Joseph Frank Boyd of Cameron, Ernest Boyd of Greenville; daughters, Melody Oakley of Washington, Charlene Miller of Greenville, Nancy Jo Elks of High Point; brother, Donald Boyd of Bear Creek; sisters, Bonnie Blackmon of Sanford, Dot Bouldin of Sanford, Judy Grant of Cumnock, Frances Gillis of Broadway; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

DORIS H. CRUTCHFIELD
Doris “Dodie” Hagan Crutchfield, 90, of Siler City, died Friday, (02-07-2014) at Coventry House.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, (02-13-2014), at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with Rev. Randy Kelley officiating.

Doris was a native of Greenbush, MN and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by parents, Fred and Esther Oleson Hagen.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas Crutchfield of the home; sons, David Skeim of Bemidji, MN, Mitchell Skeim of Thief River Falls, MN; step-daughter, Sheila Perkins of Evansville, IN; step-son, Charles Crutchfield of Wilmington; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407; or to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 1005 Carthage Street, Sanford, NC 27330.

JAMES MELVIN RUSSELL
Mr. James Melvin Russell, 78, of Burlington, formerly of Siler City died Monday, (02-03-2014) at the Hospice Home.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (02-08-2014) at 1 p.m. at Unity Powerhouse Holiness Church with Bishop Williams Goins officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mr. Russell was a member of Bear Creek Lodge #324 in Robbins. He served in the US Army and was owner of Russell Funeral Home in Siler City.

Survivors include a daughter, Ms. Charlotte Bradsher of Cedar Grove; step-sons, Mr. William Patterson and Mr. Farrar Patterson, TX; brothers, Mr. Gaddis Russell of Cedar Grove, Mr. Herman Russell of Reidsville, Mr. Benny Russell of Philadelphia, PA; sisters, Mrs. Magaline Anthony of Washington, DC and Mrs. Macie Flythe of Charlotte.

DR. EDWARD THOMAS
Dr. Edward Thomas, age 90, of Bear Creek died Sunday, February 9, 2014 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Dr. Thomas was born December 25, 1923 in London, England to Emrys and Sarah Thomas. He served with the British Navy as a ship’s doctor. Dr. Thomas enjoyed horse farming, reading Sherlock Holmes novels and listing to Opera. In addition to his parents, Dr. Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Thomas and great granddaughter, Anna Belle Horton.

Dr. Thomas is survived by daughters, Josephine Ungewitter and husband Werner of Bear Creek, Lindsay Chamberlin and her former husband Keith of Mill Valley, CA; son, Simon Thomas and wife Nancy of Roscommon, MI; grandchildren, Erica Hawley and husband Jeffrey, Lindsay Horton and husband Bryan, Gregory Ungewitter, Allison Harris and husband Joshua, Sara Chamberlin, Zach Chamberlin and wife Lisa, Emma Chamberlin, Brian Thomas, Sarah Thomas; great grandchildren, Charlie Hawley, Edward Horton; sisters, Marie Driver of London, England, Hetty Bardsley of London, England.

No services are planned at this time.

LELAND REID JONES
Mr. Leland Reid Jones, 92, formerly of Bennett, died at Carolina House in Asheboro on Thursday (01-30-2014).

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (02-01-2014) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Jones was a native of Chatham County. He was a former Deacon and a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Carol Jones Brady of Bennett; a half-brother, Reid Jones of Siler City; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

ALBERT LEWIS HALL
Albert Lewis Hall, 63, of Cameron, died Wednesday, (01-29-2014) at his home.

Funeral services were held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday, (02-01-2014, 2 p.m. with Pastor John Brown presiding. Burial followed in the Cameron Town Cemetery.

Mr. Hall was born in Lee County, on May 13, 1950, to the late Sandy Weldon Hall and Mary Margaret Cameron Hall. He worked for Lines Construction Company as a lineman. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Weldon Hall, John Franklin Hall and a sister Mae Godwin.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Deborah Shaw Hall of the home; sons, Billy Hall and Wade Hall, both of Cameron; brothers Alton Hall of Cameron, Lester Hall of Lemon Springs; sisters, Ruby Hall of Carthage, Liza Cummings of Sanford, Betty McGehee of Olivia, Edna Cummings of Sanford; and three grandchildren.

SHIRLEY LEE SMITH MURPHY
Mrs. Shirley Lee Smith Murphy, 72, of Sanford, died Thursday, (01-30-2014) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Sunday, (02-02-2014) at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.

Mrs. Murphy was born in Brunswick County on May 8, 1941 to her late mother Beulah Lee Smith. She was raised by her parents, the late Yancy and Linnie Little Simmons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kendall Murphy; sisters, Myrtle Blackmon, Alma Dubois; brothers Horace Ray Simmons and Frank Simmons.

Survivors include a son, Leo Smith; daughters, Debbie Coleman and Tammie Lynch, all of Sanford; sisters, Linnie Bell Braswell of Morehead City, Mary Stevens and Caroline Hinson, both of Whiteville; four grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and six step-great-grandchildren.

JOYCE NORRIS CATHEY
Joyce Norris Cathey, 77, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away in her residence in Bear Creek, on Tuesday, (01-28-2014).
A funeral was held on Monday, (02-03-2014) at 11 a.m. in Antioch Church of God in Fayetteville followed by entombment in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by daughters, Wanda Cook and Deborah Dollinger; sons, Jeffrey Cathey, Heath Cathey; sisters, Joan Church, Janice Harrison, Barbara Norris; brother, Gary Norris; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

TRAVIS WAYNE MOFIELD
Mr. Travis Wayne Mofield, 36, of Aberdeen, passed away Friday, (01-31-2014) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

funeral service were held Tuesday, (02-04-2014) at 2 p.m. at Brown’s Chapel Christian Church in Robbins, with Rev. Michael Parenti officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.

Travis was a Moore County native and a carpenter in the construction business. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Marvin and Margie Moore, paternal grandparents, Dallas and Bertha Mofield.

Survivors include his parents, Dallas “Buck” Mofield, and Virginia “Ann” Moore Mofield of the home; brothers, Michael Mofield of Riverview, Florida, and Keith Mofield, of the home.

IRENE BRADY COVERT
Irene Brady Covert, 70, died Saturday, (02-01-2014) at home in Bennett.

A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, (02-08-2014).

She was born on June 12, 1943 in Chatham County to Ruby Brady and the late Harvey Brady. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Dean Brady. Irene was member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her daughters, Sharon Freeman, Sherry Cook, both of Eagle Springs; sons, AJ Covert of Cameron, Brian Covert of Bennett; sister Sylvia Brown; brothers, Harold Brady, Wayne Brady, Michael Brady, as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church or Hospice of Randolph County.

LT. CMDR. ROY EVERETT CLAYTON, USCG, Retired
Lt. Cmdr. Roy Everett Clayton, USCG, Ret., 84, of Pittsboro, died Saturday, (02-01-2014) at Hospice of Wake County.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, (02-08-2014) at the Cremation Society of the Carolinas, 2205 E. Millbrook Road, Raleigh, with Pastor Will Aleshire presiding. Military honors will follow.

Born, September 24, 1929, he was a native of Poteau, Oklahoma. Lt. Cmdr. Clayton retired from the US Coast Guard after a career of over 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Ford Jones Clayton; sons, Mike Clayton, Berry Clayton, Robert Clayton; step-daughters, JoAnn Meade of Louisburg Jackie Davis of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to Hospice of Wake County.

JENNIE RUTH UNDERWOOD VOGEL
Jennie Ruth Underwood Vogel, 71, of Cameron died Monday, (02-03-2014), at First Health Hospice House in Moore County.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the funeral hour on Thursday, (02-06-2014), at Faith Baptist Church and other times at the home of Linda and Ray Marks. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. with Pastor Willie Bryant officiating at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Vogel was born in Lee County, on May 2, 1942, to the late Nelson Underwood and Ethel Helms Underwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Vogel, Sr. She retired as an associate with K-Mart.

Surviving relatives include her sons, Ronald Vogel, Jr of Sanford, Bobby Womack of Sanford; daughters, Barbara Page and Tina Barker of Sanford, Linda Marks of Cameron; brother Cecil Ray Underwood of Sanford; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
