CLYDIE ANN CLAYTON LEWTER
Clydie Ann Clayton Lewter passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at her home in Apex.
Mrs. Lewter was born February 1, 1937 to Henry Cornelius Clayton and Allie Sue Wagner Clayton in Person County, NC. She was a loving wife, aunt and sister. Mrs. Lewter was a member of Bell’s Baptist Church in Apex; a dedicated care-giver; and, always the first to assist those who were sick. She was a full-fledged character with a great sense of humor and loved to sing. Mrs. Lewter worked at Kaiser Roth prior to working at the University of North Carolina.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lewter was preceded in death by her husband, Genius Lewter and her brother, Henry Nathaniel Clayton.
She is survived by her sister, Alma Cash of Apex and her brother and sister-in-law, Kirby and Charlotte Adcock of Salisbury.
A Celebration of Mrs. Lewter’s life was held at Hall-Wynne Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro on Saturday, March 8 with visitation from 2 to 3 p.m. and the service beginning at 3. The Rev. Rick Washington officiated. Burial followed at Bells Baptist Church in Apex.
Arrangements were under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation, Pittsboro.
LUCY PHILLIPS PUGH
Bennett — Lucy Phillips Pugh, 91, on Monday March 10, 2014 returned home to her Savior Jesus Christ, to a joyous reunion with her husband Willard, parents Ella and George Phillips, and her ten brothers and sisters. Lucy passed away in Bennett, with her children by her side, in her home in which she was born and raised and where she married Willard. Lucy’s only regret was that she was leaving her family and friends whom she loved so much and wished to tell one last good-bye.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 1 p.m. at Bennett Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Webb and John Wayne Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
Lucy was a Chatham County native and was not only a member but also a granddaughter of the UDC. Lucy joined the Coast Guard during WW II, and was proud to serve her country. A country that she and Willard loved so much that they visited all 50 states, to which she always said that it’s a beautiful world we were blessed to live in. Lucy was a member of the old Bennett Christian Church that no longer stands today, it was the place where she was baptized as a young lady.
Left to mourn her loss are her sons Ronnie and Daryel Pugh of Bennett; her daughter Lili and her husband John Onufryk; her two grandsons, Jonathan and Sean Onufryk. Lucy is also survived by a multitude of nephews and nieces and great, and great-great nephews and nieces.
Visitation was held Wednesday, March 12, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, Bennett, NC 27208and other times at her home. You may.

CHARLES N. “Mickey” HILLIARD
Charles N. “Mickey” Hilliard, Jr., 85, of Surfside Beach, SC, passed away on Monday, (02-24-2014).
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, (02-28-2014) at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial followed at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Born April 3, 1928 in Durham, he was the son of the late Charles N., Sr. and Sally
Hilliard. He was a supervisor at the American Tobacco Company for 40 years before retirement. Mickey was a member of the Shriners.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary, of the home; a sister, Marie Castleberry-Kidle of Sanford; sons, Captain Larry Hilliard, Tony Hilliard, both of Surfside Beach, SC; daughter, Diane Cameron of Murrells Inlet, SC; five grandchildren and one great- grandchild.

BARBARA WILLIAMS LANGLEY
Barbara Williams Langley, 81, of Siler City died Wednesday, (02-26-2014) at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
The funeral was held Sunday (03-02-2014) at 3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Southern officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Langley was born in Richmond County on September 16, 1932, the daughter of Leo and Sarah (Gardner) Williams. She was retired from Hadley Peoples Manufacturing and attended the First Wesleyan Church. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Langley.
She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Currin of Greensboro, Amy Carter of Siler City; sons, Randy Thomas of Rockingham, Henry “Tank” Thomas of Tucson, AZ, Jeff Thomas of Spokane, WA., Kent Thomas of Raleigh; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
CHARLES ROBERT JONES
Mr. Charles Robert Jones, 65, of 2538 died Thursday, (02-27-2014) at his residence.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, (03-02-2014) at 3 p.m. at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Allmon and Rev. John Bryant officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Jones was a Chatham County native and had worked as a Project Inspector. He retired from the construction unit of the NC Department of Transportation after 31 years. In addition to being a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, he served as deacon, assistant Sunday school teacher, cemetery committee, past custodian, sound booth operator, and a RA Leader at church. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gordon Jones.
Survivors include his wife, Trudy Pearce Jones of the home; daughter, Nicole Jones Coates of Bennett; son, Aaron Jones of Bennett; mother, Doshie Maness Jones of Bennett; sister, Linda J. Brady of Bennett; and give grandchildren.

EDITH FRANCES BURROW COLE
Edith Frances Burrow Cole, 89, of Sophia, passed away Friday, (02-28-2014).
A celebration of Edith’s life was held Monday, (03-03-2014) at 2 p.m. at Cumby Family funeral service, Archdale. Interment followed at Randolph Memorial Park.
Edith was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Elsie Moser Burrow; husband, Ray Howard Cole; and brother, Johnnie Lee Burrow.
Edith is survived by daughters, Carolyn Cole Mabe of Wilmington, Charlotte Cole Graham of Randleman; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
JAMES HURLEY ASHWORTH
James Hurley Ashworth, 94, of Sanford died Friday, (02-28-2014) at Westfield Nursing and Rehab. Center in Sanford.
Arrangements are pending with Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home at this time and will be announced later.
VEATRICE MILLER FOXX
Veatrice Miller Foxx, 98, of Bear Creek died Monday, (02-24-2014 at her home.
Funeral services were scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs Foxx was a homemaker, a member of Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and a member of the missionary department. She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Sylvester Foxx and children, Michael Anthony Foxx, Sylvester Roosevelt Foxx and Jessie Carol Davis.
Survivors include a son, Carl Louis Foxx of Siler City; daughters, Dorothy F. Shamburg, Eva Louise Siler, Pauline F. Hall, all of Bear Creek, Mary Ann Williams of Siler City, Hattie F. Hanner, Gwendolyn F. Hanner, both of Bear Creek; 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
HURLEY GLOVER
Mr. Hurley Glover, 73, of Siler City died Monday, (03-03-2014) at his home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, (03-06-2014) at 2 p.m. a Unity Powerhouse Church. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.
There are no immediate survivors.
WILLIAM GORRIS CHEEK
William Gorris Cheek, 92, of Siler City died Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
Mr. Cheek was born in Alamance County on August 8, 1921, the son of George Dewey and Nancy Myrtle (Ellington) Cheek. He was an Army veteran of WW II and retired from Perfection Equipment after 50 years of service. He was preceded by his wife, Ola Lynn Cheek; his parents and brothers, Cletus and Robert Cheek.
Mr. Cheek is survived by three daughters, Nancy C. Wilson and husband Phillip of Siler City, Kathy C. Chappell of Siler City, Kim Cheek of Bonlee; sons, Chester C. Craven of Georgia, Billy Cheek of Bear Creek; sister, Mary Hedrick of Graham; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

KELLY JO WRIGHT ELMORE
Kelly Jo Wright Elmore, 51, of Broadway, died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mrs. Elmore was born in Chatham County on December 2, 1962, the daughter of Joseph and Nadine (Scott) Wright. Kelly was employed with the Chatham County Department of Social Services. She enjoyed working with all electronic devices, gardening, taking pictures of nature scenes and all football activities.
She is survived by her husband of 13 years, Robert “Rob” Elmore of the home; her mother, Nadine Scott Wright; father, Joseph Wright, both of Siler City; sister, Lorie W. Warren and husband Mark of Randleman; brother, Benjie Wright and wife Carolyn of Siler City; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Tyson’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 10891 Siler City-Glendon Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Robert Thomas officiating.
The family was at the home of Janice Loy, 5 Country Club Lane, Siler City.

HAROLD BOYD WILLETT
Durham – Harold Willett, 64, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 with his family and friends by his side.
Mr. Willett was born July 22, 1949 in Siler City. He was the son of the late Evans and Estie Willett. He graduated from Chatham Central High School in 1967. He was a champion pork BBQ cook, winning many events including Hog Day in Hillsborough. He was also a huge Carolina fan who loved gospel and bluegrass music. Among many, one of his favorite artists was Bill Monroe. He attended Bible Baptist Church of Creedmoor. What brought him the most joy was the love he shared with his family.
Mr. Willett is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sue Willett of Durham; children, Darrin Willett and wife Wanda of Bennett, Mandy Willett Sanders and husband Ronnie of Creedmoor, Wendy Willett Howell and husband Phillip of Oxford; sibling, Leroy Willett of Bonlee; sister-in-law, Joyce Gooch of Creedmoor; three grandchildren, Ashley and husband Luke, Cooper and Liam; along with many nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church of Creedmoor, officiated by Pastor Greg Allison and Pastor Jimmy Hall.
He will be remembered by all as a caring husband, daddy, father-in-law, papa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He cared more about the welfare of others than himself. He will truly be missed.
MARTHA RACHEL WHITEHEAD
Martha Rachel Whitehead, 84, of Siler City, lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 26, 2014.
She was born in Chatham County, the daughter of Henry and Buena (Ferguson) Whitehead. Rachel was a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church for over 70 years and was employed as a paralegal. She was a volunteer for over 20 years with the Chatham County Historical Society. Rachel also volunteered with the West Chatham County Relay for Life for 10 years. She will long be remembered for her talents in calligraphy with many of her works framed and displayed in homes far and near. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ina Mae Whitehead and a niece, Martha Troutman Warwick.
Survivors include one sister, Maxine W. Wallace of Colfax; great-nephew, Christopher Wrenn Cox of Richmond, VA; and a host of treasured friends.
A graveside service was held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, 5016 Silk Hope-Gum Spring Road, Pittsboro.
