DOUG HARRIS, SR.
Doug Harris, Sr., 70, of Silk Hope died Friday, (03-28-2014).
The funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday (03-31-2014) at Browns Chapel UMC, with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Carl Belcher officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Harris was a native of Chatham County. He was a self employed concrete worker. He was preceded in death by his parents, John B. Harris and Mary Johnson Harris.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula Ray of Chapel Hill; son, Gregg Harris, Jr. of Burlington; sister: Linda Kester of Graham; and five grandchildren.

ALICE FAYE DICKENS
Ms. Alice Faye Dickens, 63, of Broadway passed away Saturday, (03-29-2014) at Tara Plantation in Carthage.
She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late William Winfield and Nellie Rose McCauley Dickens. She was a real estate agent in Sanford and surrounding areas.
Funeral services were held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, (04-01-2014) at Cool Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Ramon Atkins and Rev. Tom Welborn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are sons, Don Batten of Bear Creek, Jonathan Batten of Sanford; and two granddaughters.
JOSIE B. WALDEN
Josie B. Walden, 88, of Siler City died Thursday (03-27-2014) at Westfield Nursing Center in Tramway.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. at Glovers United Church of Christ. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Walden was a native of Chatham County, a retired homemaker and a member of Glovers United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Dowdy of Carthage; sisters, Clara Carver of New Carrolton, MD, Ruth Massey of Washington, DC, Johnsie Spinks of Bennett; brother, Mordecai Brower of Mitchellville, MD; seven grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
ELIZABETH “LIB” BRADY TERRY
Elizabeth”Lib” Brady Terry, 84, of Siler City died Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Barn, Woodlake Meadows, 3809 McLaurin Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

PEGGY ELIZABETH JONES
Peggy Elizabeth Jones, 78, of West Third Street, Siler City died Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at her residence.
Ms. Jones was born in Chatham County on May 10, 1935, the daughter of Herbert R. and Irene (Wilson) Jones. She was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church and the Women’s # 1 Sunday School class. She enjoyed watching television, working cross word puzzles and word search. She loved her cats. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Louise Dorsett, Margaret Pike, Hazel Hough, Beatrice Burgess, Doris Gasque, Ruth Wilson; and brother, Herbert Jones, Jr.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Loves Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Alan Harrison officiating. The family received friends after the service at the church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

OTIS FRED LASHLEY
Fred Lashley, 78, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 25, 2014 in his home surrounded by his family.
A native of Chatham County, Fred was born to the late Mike and Mabel Hester Lashley. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Ward Lashley.
Survivors include his daughters, Wanda Lucas and Connie McClamroch (Jim), both of Chapel Hill; his grandson, Sandy McClamroch; his sisters, Jeanette Edwards of Chapel Hill, Linda Williamson of Norwood, and Doris Snipes of Pittsboro.
A funeral service for Mr. Lashley was held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2014 at Orange Chapel UMC. The family received friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial was private.

ROBERT JACKSON (JACK) WILKIE
Robert Jackson (Jack) Wilkie, 83, of3078 Roberts Chapel Road, Goldston, died Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. Wilkie was born in Chatham County on October 25, 1930, the son of General Jackson (Jim) Wilkie and Clara (Hancock) Wilkie. He was a graduate of Bonlee High school. Jack was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and a long time member of the American Legion. He made his career in the textile industry, serving as Vice-President of Manufacturing for Whitin Roberts Company in Sanford for over 40 years.
Jack was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Besides a loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was most proud of his public service to the educators, administrators, and children of Chatham County during 34 years of service on the Chatham County Board of Education, including 32 consecutive years as Chairman. He also received the prestigious ORDER of the LONG LEAF PINE for outstanding citizenship.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Faye Wilkie, a son Jimmy Wilkie, a grandson Kenny Lester, and
one brother, Raymond Wilkie.
Survivors include his son, Robert Dean Wilkie and wife Phyllis of Liberty; daughter, Diane Wilkie Lester and husband Lynn of Goldston; one grandson, Brad Wilkie and wife Dana of Asheboro; one granddaughter, Lindy Lester of Chapel Hill; great-granddaughter Peyton Wilkie; two great-grandsons Kenny Lester and Kobe Flynn; one sister, Carol Sloan and spouse Bobby of Goldston, and brother Harry Dean Wilkie and spouse Lee of Cherry Grove, SC.
The family received friends Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.
The funeral service was held Sunday, March 30, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 3835 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Goldston, NC 27252 conducted by pastor Mike Garner and pastor Ken Harris.

RUBY GLADYS SMITH ANDREW
Ruby Gladys Smith Andrew, 88, of Siler City, died Monday, March 31, 2014.
She was predeceased by her husband, Van Clark Andrew; her father, Frank A. Smith, Sr.; her mother, Gladys Teague Smith; and an infant sister.
She was born July 15, 1925 in Silk Hope. She was the 1942 valedictorian of Silk Hope School where she played basketball, a 1946 graduate of UNCG, and a member of Rocky River Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. She was an elementary school teacher at SilkHope School for a short period but spent most of her life as a homemaker, farm wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Donald Andrew of Walkertown, his wife, Cynthia, his sons, Craig (Penny) and Tim; daughter, Betty Andrew Marsh of Raleigh, her husband, Paul, their daughter, Molly; daughter, Beth Andrew Taylor of Carthage, her husband, Norwood, their daughters, Mary (Jonathan) and Janice; niece, Serena Smith of Franklinton and her husband, Russell Fristoe; niece, Amy Smith Olsen of Bonlee, her children, Andrew, Christina and Joshua; brother, Frank A. Smith, Jr. and his fiancée, Joanne; sister, Janette Smith Teague; sister-in-law, Ruby Willette Andrew; four great grandchildren; step grandchildren; and nephews and nieces in the Smith, Teague, Andrew and Fogleman families.
The family thanks the staff at Coventry House of Siler City for their dedication in caring for Ruby and for their many kindnesses to the family.
The funeral and burial will be held 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Rocky River Baptist Church, 4436 Siler City-Snow Camp Road, Siler City, NC 27344 with Rev. Greg Burriss officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 2, 2014 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and at the church following the service until 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014.

JOSEPH STEVEN “STEVE” MOORE
Joseph Steven Moore (Steve) passed away February 16, 2014, in Woodland Hills, California.
Steve was a native of Siler City, where he attended public schools and graduated from Jordan-Matthews High School in 1967. He graduated fromWake Forest in 1971 with a B.A. in History and obtained a Masters degree in Counseling from Appalachian State University in 1976. Steve was a professional counselor, having founded Life Skills Counseling in Lexington, where he worked from 1991-2003. He headed Steve Moore Counseling in Woodland Hills, California, from 2003 until the time of his death. He was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Lawrence Moore.
Survivors include his wife, Beth of Woodland Hills; two brothers, Donald L. Moore of Winston–Salem and George W. Moore of Asheville.
LAURA BLAIR JOHNSON
Mrs. Laura Blair Johnson, 94, of Pittsboro, peacefully passed away in her home in the early morning of Tuesday, April 1, 2014, while surrounded by her family.
A native of Scotland County, Laura was born July 25, 1919 in Laurinburg, NC to the late John Brantley Muse and Annie Laura Gilchrist. She was a graduate of Peace College and UNC-Greensboro. After graduation, she taught 4th grade in Chatham County Public Schools. Laura met and married Henry K. Blair, Sr. and became a homemaker. She was very active in the Pittsboro United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Pittsboro community for many years. She was a faithful servant of God.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husbands, Henry K. Blair, Sr. and James M. Johnson; and her siblings, Maggie Hines Muse Reagan, Charlie Gilchrist Muse and John Brantley Muse, Jr. She is survived by her children, Henry K. Blair, Jr. (Bengie), John W. Blair, and Laura Blair Spivey; her grandchildren, Laura Blair Butler, Henry K. Blair, III (Danielle), Laura Marie Spivey McSweeney (Barney), Travis L. Spivey, and Erin Spivey Librach (Dan); five great-grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held at her home at366 W. Salisbury St., Pittsboro, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014.
A Memorial Service will be held at Pittsboro United Methodist Church, at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2014.
