STEPHEN “STEVE” BYNUM
Funeral services for Mr. Stephen “Steve” Bynum were held Friday, (04-25-2014) at 3 p.m. at Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
EDWARD “ED” CAMERON
Edward “Ed” Cameron, 99, of Cameron, died Wednesday, (04-24-2014) at home.
Arrangements are pending with Bridges-Cameron at this time.
VERNON MONROE GILMORE
Vernon Monroe Gilmore, 79, of Sanford, died Tuesday, (04-22-2014) at his home.
The funeral was held Thursday (04-24-2014) at 3 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Davis presiding. Burial followed at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Gilmore was born in Lee County on June 7, 1934 to the late Marvin Gilmore and Clouis Cole Gilmore. He was preceded in death by his siblings Billy, Roy, Frankie, Junior and Johnnie Carol Gilmore.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Bessie Fore Gilmore of the home; daughters Judy Wilson, Bonnie Sloan, and Patty Freeman, all of Sanford; brothers, Donnie Gilmore of Asheboro, Roger Gilmore of Sanford; sisters, Marveline Corcaran, and Shirley Thompson, both of TN, Barbara Graham of Olivia, Brenda Denkins of Sanford, Debbie O’Quinn of Broadway and Faye Holiday of Ramseur; nine grandchildren, 19 great- grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.
EDWARD “ED” CAMERON
Edward “Ed” Cameron, 99, of Cameron, died Wednesday, (04-23-2014) at home.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Cameron was born in Harnett County, March 5, 1915, to the late Mack E Cameron and Margaret Swan Cameron. He was the owner/operator of heavy equipment. He served our country as a pilot and Captain in the Army Air Corps during WWII in the Philippines. Ed was a member at Cameron Hill Church where he served as an Elder and taught Sunday school. Ed served as President of Harnett County Historical Society and was a lifetime member of the Ruritan Club.
Mr. Cameron was preceded in death by brothers Dan, Neil, Clifton and Ray Cameron. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

DIANNA DENISE HONEA BOWDEN
Dianna Denise Honea Bowden, 52, of Angier, died Friday, (04-25-2014) at her home.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m., Tuesday at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel in Sanford.
Mrs. Bowden was born December 20, 1961, in Ft. Worth, TX, to the late Walter Dwane Honea and Naomi Suiter Honea.
Survivors include her step-mother, Fran Honea of Broadway; a son, Wendell Overcash of Sanford; brothers, Rodney Luellin of Broadway, Randy Luellin of Aberdeen, Tim Honea of South Carolina and one grandchild.
HAZEL MARLENE FARRELL
Miss Hazel Marlene Farrell, 81, died Wednesday, (04-16-2014) at The Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (04-19-2014) at Hanks Chapel UCC. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Marlene was born August 28, 1932 in Chatham County to the late Dewitt Henry Farrell and Hazel Burns Farrell. She made her home at the Murdock Center for 54 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William Ray Farrell. ]
Survivors include a brother, Larry Farrell of Pittsboro; and a sister, Nancy Farrell of Murdock Center, Butner.

ANNE HALUSKA
Anne gave up her battle with ALS in the manner she desired on March 26, 2014, surrounded with her mother and friends.
She continued for as long as possible to volunteer at Duke Hospital to assist in ALS research. After death, she continued by donating her body for research. Anne faced this challenge with grace and dignity.
She left behind her mother, Betty Jackson and her sisters, Diane Hain, Barbara Bedard, and brother Michael Jackson. The children of her siblings were also very special to her. She had so much love in her heart and freely shared that love with all who crossed her path in her life. A close-knit group of her friends will go on without her and cherish the memories of her friendship.
Anne graduated from St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in 1977 and worked many years at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. She will be missed by many friends and associates.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Meroney United Methodist Church located on Hwy 902 West, Pittsboro.

ERNEST DAVIS McLAWHORN
Ernest Davis McLawhorn, 79, of North Glenn Avenue, Siler City died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his residence.
Mr. McLawhorn was born in Pitt County on September 29, 1934, the son of Harry and Lottie (Fornes) McLawhorn. Ernie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Siler City, Siler City Masonic Lodge #403 and Siler City Chapter #9 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a veteran of the US Coast Guard with 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty (Gilliard) McLawhorn; daughter, Ellen “Beth” Boner and husband Gene of Fuquay Varina; son, Ernest McLawhorn, Jr. and wife Jeanine of Glennburnie, MD; sister, Linda Hall; brothers, Bobby McLawhorn, Clifton McLawhorn; and one grandson, Christopher Jason McLawhorn.
The family received friends Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Avenue, Siler City. A memorial service followed Sunday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating.

JESSE EARL JUSTICE
Jesse Earl Justice, 74, of Joe Brown Road, Bear Creek died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Mr. Justice was born in Chatham County on September 17, 1939, the son of Jesse Allen and Ola Ellen (Jones) Justice. He was a member of the Siler City Chapel, retired from Collins & Aikman and had been a member of the National Guard. Earl was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Wilbur, Hoyt and Edward.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sarah (Brooks) Justice; two daughters, Lisa Justice Riggs and husband Jeff of Siler City, Christina Justice and significant other, Steven Campbell of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Rebecca and Matthew Riggs; sisters, Betty Justice of Siler City, Frances Arnold of Trinity; brothers, Bobby Justice and wife Linda, Franklin Justice and wife Doris, and Bill Justice, all of Siler City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends Monday, April 28, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Steven Harrell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

LUCILLE STREET DILLING
Lucille Street Dilling, age 69 died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at her home in Glendon.
A memorial service was held at 12 p.m. Saturday at Glendon Independent Christian Church conducted by the Rev. Robert Yandle. Following the service, the family gathered at the home for a time of fellowship.
A native of Moore County, she was born April 26, 1944 to Mrs. Jeanne Hayes Street and the late Dr. M. Eugene Street, Jr. She enjoyed studying and was a graduate of Carthage School. She also attended, over the years, Bryan College, the University of Tennessee and Purdue University. She worked alongside her husband doing silk screening for their family business, Twin River Farms in Monticello, IN. Lucy and her husband moved back to Moore County when they retired, living in her parents old home place in Glendon.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Floyd Dilling; daughter, Theresa Komizar and husband Joe of Glendon; son, Scott Dilling and wife Tammy of Oak Island; sisters, Rose Ellen Hancock and husband William of Burlington, Nancy Pierceall and husband Dave of Glendon, Carol Caggiano and husband John of West End; grandchildren, Nathan and Jacob Meyers, Kyle Dilling, Abby Konizar, Jami Kile; great grandchildren, Eli and Ethan Meyers and Noah Kile.

ORRELL MOODY CLARK
Orrell Moody Clark, 88, of Sun City Center, FL, formerly of Wheaton, IL, Middletown, NJ and Siler City, NC, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Lee and Lucy Baldwin Moody. She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Carl H. Clark of Sun City Center; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Gregory Smith of Berkeley Heights, NJ, Nancy and Ted Veazey of East Greenwich, RI; four grandchildren, Carl and Claire Smith, Scott and Barrett Veazey; sister, Marsha and husband, Wiley F. Mitchell of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Jack Moody and wife Mary Helen of Siler City. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Orrell was born in North Carolina in 1925. She graduated from University of North Carolina at Greensboro at age 20. In 1946, she married Carl Clark and they spent 68 wonderful years together. Orrell and Carl enjoyed traveling internationally and were dedicated grandparents, bridge players, and active members in the United Community Church, where Orrell led Women’s Fellowship for several years.

RHEUMEL THRAILKILL MARKHAM
Rheumel Thrailkill Markham (born July 1, 1920) peacefully passed away on April 15, 2014. A graveside service was held at Pittsboro United Methodist Church on April 18, 2014.
Rheumel was the daughter of L. Frank and Berta Horton Thrailkill and was a lifelong resident of Chatham County, having lived on a farm in the Seaforth community before moving to Pittsboro. She was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband, William Commie (Billy) Markham, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joette Markham and Jack McDaniel, and her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Ruth Markham.

BESSIE ELIZABETH BROWN MIZELL
Mrs. Bessie Mizell, 91, a resident of Fearrington Village, Pittsboro, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Duke Hock Pavilion Hospice in Durham.
She was born in Tyrrell County, NC. Mrs. Mizell graduated from Tyrrell County Training High School in 1941. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard in 1998. Mrs. Mizell relocated to Fearrington Village in 2005 due to failing health, to live with her daughter Marva Laverne Price and family.
Mrs. Mizell was a School Food Service Child Nutrition Director at Tyrrell County Elementary School for 26 years until she retired in 1984. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of Tyrrell County families. She founded and grew the Church Road Emergency Food Closet in 1986 to make groceries available to individuals and families, and was honored with the Governor’s Volunteer of the Year Award by Governors Martin and Hunt. Mrs. Mizell was tireless in serving her community; over her lifetime she was involved in dozens of programs for the benefit of the residents, and was a delegate to the North Carolina Democratic Party.
Mrs. Mizell was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Columbia, North Carolina where she actively served for over 40 years on the usher board, church choir, and other organizations. Also, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star where she served in leadership as Worthy Matron. Mrs. Mizell was an avid writer; she loved writing poetry and wrote about the memories of her youth in an unpublished autobiography entitled “Thanks for the Memories.”
Mrs. Mizell is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law: Dr. Marva Laverne and Lawrence “Eddie” Price of Pittsboro; two brothers, Dr. George Walter Brown of Norfolk, VA and Robert Brown of Newark, NJ; one sister, Dr. Christina Brown of Chapel Hill; two granddaughters, Dr. LeShawndra Price (Edgar Freeman) of Gaithersburg, MD; and Lebbonee Price Kittredge (Tad Kittredge) of Chapel Hill. She also is survived by one great-grandson Jonah Kittredge of Chapel Hill and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
