OLLIE L. HOLDER
Ollie Loflin Holder, 86, of Siler City, died Sunday, (06-08-2014) at Siler City Center.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, (06-10-2014), at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with Billy Hussey officiating. Burial was held at Farmer U.M.C. in Denton.

Ollie was a native of Randolph County, formerly employed with Klopman Mills and retired from Collins and Aikman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lillie Laughlin Loflin, son, Marty Kennedy and grandson, Harry Wade Staley, Jr.

Survivors include daughters, Sabrina Kennedy Black of Siler City, Rhonda Mashburn of Sanford; sons, Harry Staley of Asheboro, Greg Kennedy, of Siler City; sister, Virginia Foley of Asheboro; 13 grandchildren, and several great- grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Farmer U.M.C. Cemetery Fund, 6232 Old NC Hwy 49, Denton, NC 27239.

GARRY WAYNE WHEELER
Mr. Garry Wayne Wheeler, (06-01-2014), at the Hospice Home of Alamance in Burlington.

A graveside service was held Wednesday (06-11-2014), at 4 p.m. at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. The family received friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

He was a native of Chatham County, the son of the late Nelson Delbert Wheeler and Fannie Elizabeth Eubanks Wheeler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Screws and a brother, Charlie Wheeler. He was retired from law enforcement having served as a policeman and as a security officer for Chatham and Wake Counties.

Survivors include sisters, Esther Shirey of Siler City, Ava Lee Brower of Staley, and Ann Wright of Pittsboro.

MARY GERTRUDE HARRIS RAY
Mary Gertrude Harris Ray, 93, of Siler City died Friday, (06-06-2014) at Siler City Center.

The funeral was held Sunday, (06-08-2014) at 3 p.m. at Mt.Vernon United Methodist Church with Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ray was born in Chatham County in the Silk Hope community on October 28, 1920, the daughter of Dewitt and Letitia (Woody) Harris. She was a member of Mt.Vernon United Methodist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Van Ray and a daughter, Faye Dorsett McLaughlin.

Survivors include a daughter, Brenda R. Moore of Pittsboro; five grandchildren, several great–grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

BRENDA F. BURNETTE
Brenda F. Burnette, 64, of Siler City died Thursday, (06-05-2014) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.

Funeral services were held Tuesday (06-10-2014) at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Terrell's Chapel Church.

Mrs. Burnette was a native of Chatham County and a member of Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Burnette; son, Gary L. Burnette of Cooperstown, NY; sisters, Robin Farris, Betsy Dark; brother, Issacc Farris, Steve Farris, Odell Farris, Reese Farris, all of Siler City; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

JOHN THOMAS CLOUSE

John Thomas Clouse, 82, passed away in the early morning of Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro, North Carolina.

John was born to George and Elsie Clouse in Murdock, Kansason August 24, 1932. He served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957 and spent time stationed in Japan. In the 1960s and early 70s he worked for Bendix Corporation at NASA satellite tracking stations in Kano (Nigeria), Madagascar, Antigua (British West Indies), Ascension Island, Alaska, and California. While in Kano, Nigeria, he married Mary Smith, a Peace Corps volunteer from Gasport, NY, on March 30, 1964.

From 1974 to 1977, John and Mary Clouse joined the Lay Mission Helpers organization of Los Angeles and taught shop and English at the Ponape Agriculture and Trade School (PATS), a Jesuit-run high school for boys on the island of Pohnpei, Micronesia. At the time, Pohnpei was a United States Trust Territory and the high school was accessible only by boat, mail, and telegram.

Upon their return to the United States, the Clouses settled on a layer chicken farm south of Pittsboro and raised chickens into the 1980s. After ceasing chicken farming, John worked at Carolina Meadows retirement community, Governors Club, and the Sanford Municipal Golf Course.

John loved animals and besides chickens raised cattle, pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, and two pet deer, Gus and Gigi. With the help of the American Minor Breeds Conservancy (now the Livestock Conservancy) in Pittsboro, the Clouses built a small herd of Dexter cattle, at the time a rare breed. John had sheared sheep in his youth and revived this work in his later years. He sheared sheep at many small farms around North Carolina and also sheared the UNC Chapel Hill school mascot, a horned Dorset ram named Rameses.

Survivors include his wife Mary Clouse of Pittsboro; son David Clouse and spouse Rachel Clouse of Moncure, NC, son Doug Clouse of New York City, and son Ronald Clouse of Charlotte, NC. John has two grandchildren, Meredith and Marissa, daughters of David and Rachel. In Kansas, John is survived by his brother Gilbert Clouse and spouse Pat Clouse of Hutchinson, as well as sister-in-law Ruth Clouse of Kingman, brother-in-law John Green of Murdock, and many nieces and nephews. John’s niece Kathy Spitz and family, of Chapel Hill, NC, shared many good times at the farm in North Carolina.

The Clouse family is grateful to the generous caregivers and neighbors who helped John at the end of his life.

John attended St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, NC, and was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. A funeral mass was held at St. Thomas More at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, followed by placement of his ashes into the St. Thomas More columbarium.

JUDITH ANNE BLAKE “JUDY” LUCKADO
Judith Anne Blake “Judy” Luckado, age 66, of Siler City died Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at her home.

Ms. Luckado was born September 14, 1947 the daughter of T. R. and Sue M. Powell Blake. Judy was a native of Newport News, VA and a patriotic American. She enjoyed all things US. She was a prolific talker and “never met a stranger.” Judy loved Elvis; Westerns and cats; longing to work with big cats. She worked many years as a waitress and also at Stanley Furniture in Waynesville, VA.

She adored her family and her happiest times were with them. She enjoyed dancing and family members envision her dancing across heaven with her daughter, Susie, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Darden of Fayetteville, NC and two sons, Edward Luckado, III of New Orleans, LA and John Luckado and his partner, Mark Sutphin of Holly Springs, NC; grandchildren, Brandon, Ashley, Megan, Christopher, Fallon, Blake, Tyler and Amanda Sue; and one brother, Bob Blake of Winchester, VA.

The family received friends Sunday, June 8, 2014 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Chaplain Randy Hickman officiating.

IRENE JOHNSON
Irene Johnson, 87, of Siler City died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.

She was born November 21, 1926, the daughter of Folger B. and Callie (Haith) Johnson. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, enjoyed working in the garden, her flowers and was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by per parents and husband, J. R. Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her son, Randall Johnson and wife Kathy of Siler City; brother, Otis Johnson of Baden Lake; and several special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Big Meadows Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. David Crowther officiating. The family received friends at Irene’s home.

Memorials may be made to the Big Meadows Primitive Baptist Church or to the donor’s choice.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

EDITH CULBERSON SIMPSON
Greensboro — Mrs. Edith Culberson Simpson, 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Wesley Long Community Hospital.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Hinshaw United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with Rev. Donna Smith officiating. Interment followed in Westminster Gardens.

Mrs. Simpson was born on July 7, 1929 in Chatham County, a daughter of the late Erie and Ruby Siler Culberson. As a member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church, she was an active member of Disciples Bible Sunday School Class, and served as Community Steward, United Methodist Women and Church Council. An accomplished baker, she had a motivational and encouragement Ministry sending cards, notes, cakes and pies. She was an active peacemaker, always helping people resolve conflicts. She loved to read her Bible and had an active and vibrant prayer ministry.

She worked at Sears Mail Order plant and retired from Jefferson Pilot Insurance Company in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Jim H. Simpson, Jr. and wife Sherrie of Greensboro; two brothers, Frank Culberson of Dallas, TX, Hal Culberson of Laurinburg; two sisters, Jean McNeese of Siler City, Becky Oldham of Bear Creek; and three grandchildren, Jake, Hallie and Ashley Simpson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Binford Simpson, and her brother, Calvin Culberson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hinshaw United Methodist Church, 4501 High Point Road, Greensboro, N.C.27407.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, N. Elm Street and an hour prior to the service at the church.

BEATRICE WILSON BREWER
Mrs. Beatrice Wilson Brewer, 88, of 9245 Highway 42, Bear Creek passed Saturday, June 07, 2014 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Bennett with Rev. Scott Allmon and Rev. Joe Drum officiating.

Mrs. Brewer was a retired homemaker, who loved the LORD, her church, and all her family. She also liked to cook and work in her yard. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she had perfect attendance for many years. Had she lived until June 17, she would have been married to her husband Pete for 69 years. Mrs. Brewer was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Etta Wilson; sisters, Myrtle Cromer, Ruth Wilson, Katie Mae Oldham, Betty Wilson; brothers, Hank and Daniel Wilson.

She is survived by her husband, Pete Brewer of the home; daughters, Carol Lee Phillips and husband Herman Ray of Bennett, Patsy S. Bray and husband Gregory of Bennett; sons, Sammy Brewer and wife Cathy of Bear Creek, Alan Brewer and wife Beckie of Bennett. She was blessed with six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Monday, June 9, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, Bennett, and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Community Homecare and Hospice, 108 Village Lake Road, Siler City, NC 27344.

Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett is serving the Brewer family.

LEONA LYNCH MORGAN
Leona Lynch Morgan, 71, of Bear Creek, died Monday, June 9, 2014 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Mrs. Morgan was born in Chatham County on May 14, 1943, the daughter of Zeb and Ruth (Stevens) Lynch. Leona had been employed in textiles in the shipping department. Leona was a “baseball Mom, ” often shuttling her children to games. She enjoyed watching game shows, cooking and time spent with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Morgan; daughter, Janice Morgan; her parents; and a brother, Mike Lynch.

She is survived by two sons, Ricky Morgan (Samantha Morgan) of Bear Creek, Randy Morgan and wife Christa of Siler City; grandchildren, Austin, Dustin, Megan, Matthew and Christopher Morgan, and Ashley Krueger; sisters, Linda Faye Mote of Liberty, Judy Carol Mooneyhan and husband Gerald of Bear Creek; brothers, Jack Lynch and wife Lois of Staley, William Eugene Lynch of Burlington, Jimmy Leon Lynch and wife Linda of Asheboro and Bobby Wayne Lynch of San Diego, CA.

The family will receive friends Friday, June 13, 2014 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2343 Piney Grove Church Road, Siler City.

The funeral will follow Friday at 3 p.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Judith Drye and Rev. Jim Folks officiating. Burial will be in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.
