Mr. Lloyd Paul Gordon of Greensboro died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held in the chapel at Forbis and Dick on North Elm Street on Saturday, January 17, 2004 at 11:00AM. Doctor Earl Taylor of the Northwest Church of Christ will officiate.
Burial will be at Harmony Grove Church in Yadkinville with a simple Graveside service at 2:30PM Saturday, January 17,2 004.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00PM Friday evening at the funeral home.
Gordon is survived by one brother, Robert Lee Gordon and his wife, Sue of Cary, NC; niece, Laura Gordon Stark and her husband, Chris and daughter Claire, all of Cary; nephew, Lee Gordon and his wife, Judy and their two children, Randall and Molly live at East Bend, NC; nephew, Paul Gordon of East Bend and several cousins and an extended family of friends.
Mr. Harold Lee Bettis

Mr. Harold Lee Bettis, Sr., died on Friday, January 9th, 2004 at Moses Cone Extended Care Center. Dr. David Melton and Dr. Craven Williams will conduct a memorial service at 11:00AM on Monday, January 12th, 2004 at West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, January 11th from 4:30-6:00PM at Forbis & Dick funeral service on 1118 North Elm Street in Greensboro.
Harold was a native of Shelby, North Carolina. He taught Social Studies at Lindley Junior High School in Greensboro after graduating from Lenoir Rhyne College. Following graduate studies at the University of Chicago in 1942, Harold became the manager of the Shelby Hospital, now Cleveland Memorial Regional Hospital, and then moved to the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte as the assistant manager. When construction began on the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in 1951, he became its Assistant Director, and then Director in 1957 until his retirement in 1980.
He served as a Preceptor at Duke University School of Hospital Administration and helped establish The School of Nursing at UNC-G and North Carolina A& T School of Nursing in conjunction with Cone Hospital.
Harold was a life member of the North Carolina Hospital Association and a fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives. He enjoyed his membership in the Tarheel Seniors Golf Association, the Longview Seniors Golf Association, and the Sedgefield Country Club, his interest in photography, and his more than 50 years as a member of the Greensboro Civitan Club. An avid fisherman, he alsoenjoyed his association with the Painter’s Lake Fishermen’s Club.
Mr. Bettis was an active member of the West Market Street United Methodist Church where he served on the administration board and as the president of the Men’s Fellowship Class.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh and Epsie Lowery Bettis, his step mother Mattie Beam Bettis of Shelby, his sister Louise Bettis Long of Charlotte, his brothers Alan Lowery Bettis of Lake Norman and Eugene Wriley Bettis of Greer, South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife Margaret Ford Bettis, his sons Robert Edwin Bettis of New York and Harold Lee Bettis, Jr. and his wife Linda Glenn of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren-Christopher Hutchins Bettis and his wife Emery of Hendersonville, William Sands Bettis and his wife Marie-Jose of Winston Salem, Katherine Glenn McConnell and her husband, Johnny of Raleigh, Lindsay Paige Truluck of Richmond, VA, and one great grandchild, John Daniel McConnell IV of Raleigh.

MRS. WALTHER WAS A NATIVE OF CHARLOTTE, NC, BUT HAD LIVED IN GREENSBORO SINCE 1966. BEFORE MOVING TO GREENSBORO, SHE HAD LIVED IN WINSTON-SALEM, STATESVILLE, & SOUTH CAROLINA.
SHE WAS A LONGTIME MEMBER OF THE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, SERVING THE CHURCH WITH HER TIME AND ENGERY. SHE WAS THE PAST PRESIDENT OF THE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN, PAST PRESIDENT AND PAST CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD OF THE FRIENDSHIP DAY GROUP, PAST PRESIDENT OF THE COMMUNITY SERVICE GROUP & MEMBER OF THE FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS. WHEN MRS. WALTHER WAS LIVING IN CHARLOTTE, SHE BECAME A FOUNDING MEMBER OF COVENANT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER SONS, WILLIAM “PETE” WALTHER, III AND DR. ERSKINE S. WALTHER, BOTH OF GREENSBORO , AND A BROTHER & SISTER IN LAW, STEWART & GURT SMITH OF CHARLOTTE, NC. SHE IS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND WILLIAM PETER WALTHER, JR WHO PASSED AWAY IN 1990.

Mr. William Warren of Abbotswood at Irving Park died Thursday, January 8, 2004.
Funeral services for Mr. Warren will be held at 1:00 o'clock Sunday, January 10, 2004 at the Chapel of Patterson & Son, Spring Hill and Tenth Street in Atlanta, GA. Interment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Park. A Memorial service will be held at Temple Emanuel at 5:45PM on Jefferson Road on Tuesday, January 13, 2004.
Mr. Warren was a career attorney with the Federal Government. He retired in 1972.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Joyce W. Wainer and husband, Dr. Howard Wainer; grandson, Dr. Robert Wainer and wife, Kim; two sisters, Nettie Rifas of Miami Beach and Claire Felson of Jacksonville, FLA; granddaughters, Lisa and Cathy Wainer and three great granddaughters, Ashley, Jayme and Annie Wainer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Bach and his daughter, Loretta Warren.
The family is being served by Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel.

Mr. Robert “Ted” Davison 73, of 1712 Three Meadows Road died Thursday, January 08, 2004 at Beacon Place of Hospice.
A Celebration of Life for Friends will be held at Ted’s home on Saturday January 17, 2004 from 1 – 3 PM.
Ted Davison was born in Tampa, Florida on December 3, 1930 to the late Robert and Ouida Duke Davison. He was retired from AT &T Federal Systems as an illustrator and a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his daughter Deirdre Davison and her husband, Richard Latta of Tega Cay, SC; and a step-son Robert Brandon of Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.

Mr. Grover Cleveland Kirkman, Jr., 75, died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Moses Cone Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Kirkman was born on December 7, 1929. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and retired as a computer programming manager from Liberty Life Ins. Co., formerly Southern Life. Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Ethel Kirkman; his wife, Roberta Cole Kirkman; son, Ronny Kirkman; brother, Conrad Kirkman; sisters, Peggy Bowman, Linda Vaughan Myers, Virginia K. Smith, and infant sister, Melrose Kirkman.
Surviving Mr. Kirkman are his son, Greg Kirkman of Greensboro and his fiancée, Debbie Henderson; sisters, Nancy K. Gardner and husband Clayton of Greensboro, and Isabelle K. Bradley of Greensboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home in Pleasant Garden.

Mrs. Dokie Purcell Smith, 94, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Moses Cone Hospital. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Guilford Memorial Park. Rev. David Horton will officiate.
Mrs. Smith was born in Roanoke, Va., on January 27, 1911. She was a retired seamstress with Southland Drapery, and a member of Gate City Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, George and Clara Purcell; her husband, William Osborne Smith; daughter, Betty Lou Smith and granddaughter, Kelly Marie Smith.
Surviving Mrs. Smith are her son, Bill Smith and wife Nancy, of Pleasant Garden; sister, Frances P. Laney of Griffin, Ga.; brother, L.W. Purcell and wife Nell, of Greensboro; eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home in Pleasant Garden.

Mrs. Jo Ellen Carter

Mrs. Jo Ellen Carter, 70, died Friday, April 1, 2005 at Beacon Place Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church on N. Holden Road in Greensboro.
Mrs. Carter was born April 26, 1934 to the late Orvil and Ersie Dodrill in Charleston, West Virginia. She graduated from the University of Charleston (West Va.) with a Bachelor of Music degree in 194 and a Master of Music degree from Winthrop University in 1972. She taught public school music for 35 years, mostly in Mecklenburg and Forsyth Counties. Her career as a gifted church musician included: Organist, St. Stephen United Methodist in Charlotte; Organist-Choir Master at Grace UMC in Charlotte, First UMC in China Grove, First UMC in Salisbury, and Choirmaster at First UMC in Lexington. In the early 1960’s she served as the accompanist for the Cleveland County Choral Society in Shelby, NC.
Jo Ellen is survived by her husband, The Rev. Dr. Robert L. Carter, retired and former Senior Minister at Christ UMC Greensboro. They were married August 21, 1953 and blessed with three children: daughter, Mrs. Kim Carter Wrightenberry of Asheville with husband Mac Wrightenberry and children Ashley, Stephen, and Chandler; daughter, Mrs. Beth Borchert Thomas of Las Cruces, New Mexico with husband Dennis Thomas and children Jessica, Joshua, Jeremy, Matthew, and Nicky; and son, Dr. Scott Carter of Greenville, NC with wife Joy Carter and children Laura and Mallory.
The family will receive friends at the church after the service.
