Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Friday, February 13, 2004 at Bethel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

MOCKSVILLE – Mrs. Ola Summers Poplin, 82, of Frank Short Road died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Davie County Hospital. Funeral services will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. Edward Carter and Rev. Jack Luther officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Thursday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. They request memorials be considered for Bethel United Methodist Church, 322 Bethel Church Road, Mocksville, NC 27208. Mrs. Poplin was born December 23, 1921 in Rowan County to the late C. P. and Lundie Lowder Summers and was a homemaker. She had worked part time at Fran Ray Nursing Home and also at Lynn Haven as a nursing assistant. She was a graduate of Mocksville High School, enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and canning. She was a long time member of Bethel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and former director of the Youth Choir. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Earl Poplin in 1984; two daughters, Fay Roberson and Josephine Poplin; one brother, Adam Summers. Survivors include a daughter, Lucille Matthews of Mocksville; four sons, T. C. (Donna) Poplin of Statesville, Earl (Carla) Poplin, Gene (Cathy) Poplin, Tim Poplin all of Mocksville; fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a special close friend, Mattie Lowery of Cleveland.

Mr. Clarence Odell Robertson
SERVICE DETAILS: When: February 13, 2004 11:00 AM
Funeral services will be held 11:00AM Friday, February 13, 2004 at Forbis & Dick, North Elm Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park.

GREENSBORO – Clarence Odell Robertson went to be with the Lord, Tuesday February 10, 2004 at Wesley Long Hospital after a struggle with cancer. Odell was surrounded by his loving wife, children, and many other family members and friends at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Chapel on N. Elm St. Internment will immediately follow at Lakeview Memorial Park.

Odell Robertson was a Summerfield native and a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mr. Robertson retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company after 41 years of dedicated service.

Odell is survived by is wife Doris Robertson of Greensboro, and two children, Anna Isley of South Carolina, and Tony Robertson of Greensboro. He is also survived by three sisters, Marie Pou of High Point, Lee Hodges of Winston-Salem, and Ruby Edmunston of Houston Texas, two grandchildren Farrah Darnell and husband Richie, and Shane Johnson, and one great-grandchild, Kinley Darnell all of Eden NC.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on Thursday February 12, at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home on N. Elm St.

Mr. William Charles Gorrod

Mr. William Charles Gorrod, Jr., 79, of Greensboro, NC died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

funeral service will be held Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Bill was born in 1924 in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from the High School of Commerce. Then with the onset of WW II, Bill volunteered for Service with the Navy where he served as a Radioman First Class on the island of Guam until the close of the war. Bill then obtained employment with Gilbert and Barker Mfg. Co. (Gilbarco) in West Springfield, MA and Greensboro as a business treasurer and a business comptroller until his retirement in 1980. Bill and his wife Anna were members of The United Congregational Church and also attended Muir’s Chapel United Methodist Church.

Bill is survived by his beloved family members; wife Anna; son Alan C. Gorrod; daughter Janet G. Emmett and husband David N. ; two grandsons William H. Gorrod and John C. Gorrod; and Barbara K. Gorrod.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel.

Mr. Salvatore Pelligra

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:00PM Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. Interment will follow in New Garden Cemetery.

Mr. Salvatore Pelligra age 84 of Greensboro died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Wesley Long Hospital. He lived most of his life in Long Beach, NY and NY City. Mr. Pelligra was a retired restaurant owner-operator in NY City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church. Burial will follow in New Garden Cemetery.

Mr. Pelligra is survived by his wife, Jennie Pelligra of the home; Son, Emanuel Pelligra and his wife Pat Carey Pelligra of Oneonta, NY; Daughter, Joanne Pelligra and her dear friend, Teri Beckman of Winston-Salem, NC; Son, Dr. Sam Pelligra and his wife, Edie Gilmore of Greensboro; Sister, Giovanna Bocchieri of Cicily, Italy; Brother-in-law, Dr. Ralph Pelligra and his wife, Olivia of San Francisco, California and three grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher of Oneonta, NY and Kyle of Greensboro.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm Monday, February 9, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on W. Friendly Ave.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

MOCKSVILLE – Mr. Tom Bailey Woodruff, 97, of Wilkesboro Street and formerly of Yadkinville Road died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Somerset Court of Mocksville. A funeral service will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Eaton Funeral Chapel with Rev. Neal Carter officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Rose Cemetery. Mr. Woodruff was born July 3, 1906 in Davie County to the late Charles Gaither and Ella Mae McMahan Woodruff and was a retired farmer. He attended Catawba College, was a Forman at the Ice Plant in the Spencer Shops, later NC Wildlife Department Game Protection as an overseer of several counties for nearly 30 years, served on Board of Directors of CCB, and Energy United Board for over 30 years and was the oldest attending member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include three sisters, Jane Dwiggins of Winston-Salem, Sadie Hall Taylor and Eleanor Woodruff Frye, a brother Charles Woodruff all of Mocksville; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Rebecca Charles Woodruff, Aug. 30 2001, a brother, Sanford Woodruff and two sisters, Elizabeth Patterson and Mildred Cherryholm.

Mrs. Margie N. Kellar

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Liberty Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.

Mrs. Margie Nuckols Kellar, 76, died Saturday February 7, 2004 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Funeral for Mrs. Kellar will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 10, 2004 at Liberty Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow at Westminster Gardens.

A native of Chatham, Virginia, Mrs. Kellar was born on March 9, 1927 the daughter of Jesse and Ada Powell Nuckols. She was a member of Liberty Wesleyan Church and the Women’s Fellowship there. On February 25, 1960 she married Mr. James W. Kellar, and worked in the family business, J.W. Kellar, Inc., as secretary/treasurer. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Reidsville, NC.

Surviving are her husband, James W. Kellar of the home, step-daughter Pamela Ann Rolfe of High Wycombe, England, sister Geraldine H, Wilkinson and brother Billy Nuckols, both of Danville, Va., and two grandchildren Hudson and Samuel Rolfe.

The family will receive friends this evening, Monday February 9, 2004 from 7 until 9 p.m. at Brooke Funeral Home, 8320 Highway 158, Stokesdale, NC, and other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Unit c/o Moses Cone Hospital, 1200 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.

Mrs. Margaret Stanley Owens, 67, of Mocksville died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at her residence.

Mr. Quinton B. Lee, Jr.

Mr. Q. B. Lee, Jr. age 77 and a Greensboro, NC resident for forty six years, passed away Friday, February 6, 2004 after a short illness.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 9, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel with the Reverend Doug West officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Lee was a native of Shelby County, Alabama and a graduate of Thompson High School Class of 1945 in Alabaster, Alabama. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Armored Division in Germany. He was an active member of Guilford Baptist Church and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was retired from Plantation Pipe Line Company after forty three and a half years of service as Area Manager.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Martha Hudson Lee of Greensboro; daughter, Jean Elder and her husband, John of High Point, NC; sons, Phillip Lee of High Point, NC, Timothy Lee of South Riding, Virginia; sister, Edna Earl Goodwin of Alabaster, Alabama; nieces, Sherry Contorno of Calera, Alabama and Renee Austin of Hueytown, Alabama.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Sunday, February 8, 2004 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 1207 West Friendly Ave. Greensboro, NC 27403.

Mrs. Rosa Mae Crumpler

Graveside services will be held 2:00PM Monday, February 9, 2004 at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Rosa Mae Kirkman Crumpler, 92, formerly of Pleasant Garden, NC, passed away on Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 in Wilmington, NC. A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, Feb. 9 at Pleasant Garden United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Crumpler was born in Guilford County on May 13, 1911 to the late W. Charles and Georgia Kirkman. She was the youngest of eight children. She graduated from nursing school at High Point College and spent most of her life caring for others. Rosa retired from Wesley Long Hospital in 1979 and moved to Wilmington to be closer to her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Claude O. Crumpler.

Mrs. Crumpler is survived by her son, Kirk Crumpler and wife Carol of Wilmington; her much loved grandsons, Kirk, Jr. and Brad; and many nieces and nephews whom she always felt a special love for.

The Crumpler family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 at Forbis & Dick Funeral Home in Pleasant Garden,NC

Greensboro, NC – Alvis Christian Downs, 79, of 1003 Surry Drive, died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be Monday, February 9, 2004 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of First Baptist Church for 62 years.

Mr. Downs was born in Charlotte. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, and was a retired Industrial Engineer for AT&T. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Olivia Downs; daughter, Carolyn Sheffey and her husband Steve, of Greensboro; son, Randy Downs, of Greensboro; brother, Earl Downs, of Port Orchard, Washington; grandchildren, Randy Downs, Jr., , and Michelle Slater; 5 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends in the church parlor after the memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 24701, or to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405.
