Lucille Butler
LATTIMORE - Mrs. Lucille Goode Butler, 73, of 933 Crawley Gin Road, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born July 5, 1928, a daughter of the late Jim and Estell McCraw Goode. She retired as a weaver from the textile industry. She was a member of Heaven Bound Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Loyd Odel Butler, and a daughter, Linda Holland.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Linda Clayton of Mooresville; a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Richard LaPage of Lattimore; one brother; three sisters; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Heaven Bound Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Bowen officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Pete Holland, 933A Crawley Gin Road.

Ruth Duncan
SPRUCE PINE - Mrs. Ruth Grindstaff Duncan, 84, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Home and Hopson Road in Grover, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late John and Ada Huskins Grindstaff.
She was a former member of Pine Branch Baptist Church and was presented with a plaque in recognition of 35 years of working with the children in Junior Memory Work. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Earl and a member of Spruce Pine Chapter No. 27 Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Duncan, who died in 1993; two brothers, Charles Grindstaff and Arnold Grindstaff; a sister, Belle Duncan; and a granddaughter, Nell Sparks.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shirley Duncan of Altamont; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Joe Hopson of Grover and Sharon and Harold Bess of Shelby; a sister, Edna Fox of Weaverville; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Pine Branch Baptist Church with the Revs. David Gordon and Larry Sprinkle officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by Spruce Pine Chapter No. 27 Order of the Eastern Star.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Webb Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, Pat Hopson, 118 Hopson Drive, Grover.

GASTONIA - Mrs. Estelle Frazier Thompson, 96, of 511 W. Eighth Ave., died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at the White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
Graveside services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at El Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain with the Rev. Richard Cole officiating.

ELLENBORO - Mrs. Gertrude Queen Callahan, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Marcus and Dovie Willis Queen. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Callahan.
She is survived by a son, Bobby Callahan of Ellenboro; a sister, Ellen Romines of Hickory; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were Friday at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Deviney officiating.

BOSTIC - Mr. Bobby Joe Hendrix, 59, of 455 Gun Club Road, died Friday, Feb.1, 2002, at Rutherford Hospital.

SHELBY - Mrs. Mildred Holland Tessner Peck, 82, of 1029 Brookwood Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Gifton and Cora Davis Holland.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow Tessner; her second husband, C.H. Peck; and a brother, Max Holland.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann Tessner and Joel Mauney of Shelby; a brother, C.O. Holland of Mooresboro; a sister, Valerie Short of Shelby; and a grandson, Duane Mauney of Washington, D.C.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Lail officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the funeral home.

David Propst Jr.
DALLAS - Mr. David Henry Propst Jr., 66, of 325 Springs Road, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Alexandria Place.
Born in Gaston County, he was a son of the late David Henry Propst Sr. and Irene Burton Propst. He retired from Carolina Freight with 30 years' service. He belonged to Gaston Masonic Lodge No. 263 in Dallas and was a lifelong member of Hardin Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Propst and sister, Marjorie Leigh Propst.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jean Jenkins Propst; three sons, Tommy Duncan of Shelby and Mack Propst and Tim Propst of Dallas; a daughter, Frances "Cookie" Propst of Dallas; six brothers, Frank Propst, Darrel Propst, Larry Propst, Roger Propst and Curt Propst, all of Dallas, and Bill Propst of Ware Shoals, S.C.; four sisters, Mae Proctor, Betty Atkins, Edna Stiles and Linda Lewallen, all of Dallas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Hardin Baptist Church, with the Revs. Fain Farmer and Nathan May officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers are Clyde Smith, Chuck Burrill, Foy Goad, Frank Steelman, Troy Ledford and Leonard Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Carolina Freight Retirees, Costner Dairy Drivers and Senior Love Group of Hardin Baptist Church.
The family received friends Sunday.
