HERBERT NEWTON BEAVERS, III
Herbert Newton Beavers, III, of Bear Creek, died peacefully at home on April 14, 2011. He was born January 30, 1946 to Herbert Newton Beavers, Jr. and Melba Stinson Beavers, who preceded him in death.
He was the former President of Carolina Feed Industry Association, owner of Carolina Analytical Services and an AOCS Chemist for 37 years.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Peggy Pickard Beavers; sons, Newton Derrick and wife, Amy of Siler City, Brad Newton and wife, Jaime of Bear Creek, Thomas Newton and wife, Kristen of Southern Pines; daughters, Lindsey B. and Brannon Glover of Atlanta, GA., and P. Jeanine of the home; brother, H. Chester Beavers and wife, Cathy of Raleigh; sister, Jennie Mae B. and husband, Duncan Stewart of Siler City; five grandchildren, Shawn Beavers, Sierra Beavers, Sawyer Beavers, Macy Beavers and Addison Beavers.
The family received friends Saturday, April 16, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home and other times at the home. A graveside service was held Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating.

ESTELLE MARSH GATEWOOD
Estelle Marsh Gatewood, age 84, of Siler City, formerly of Carthage, died Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Siler City Care and Rehabilitation.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church conducted by her brother, the Rev. Bobby Marsh and the Rev. Eugene Ussery. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Moore County, she was a daughter of the late Howard and Lucy Dennis Marsh. She and her husband, the late Daniel Gatewood were farmers. She was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Ashburn.
Survivors include children, Roger (Jenny) Whitaker of Siler City, Carolyn (Calvin) Frazier of Foxfire Village, Larry Whitaker of Carthage, Evelyn (Rod) Tidy of Siler City; sister, Betty (Jack) Yow of Cameron; brother, Bobby (Dean) Marsh of Asheboro; grandchildren, Sandy Thomas of Foxfire Village, Tammy Mitchell of Siler City, Kristie (Brad) Randall of Gilbert, AZ, Bobby (Lynn) Whitaker of Robbins, Karen (Michael) McLaurin of Siler City, Angela (Ernest) Williams of Jackson Springs, Cathy (Eric) Stanley of Foxfire Village, Emily Tidy of Siler City; great-grandchildren, Megan and Jonathan Randall of Gilbert, AZ, Sabrina and Lisa Marie Whitaker of Robbins, Brandy and Jay Thomas of Foxfire Village, Kendall and Jake Mitchell of Siler City, Jeana and Tyler Ray Williams of Jackson Springs, Caleb and Corinne McLaurin of Siler City and Lily Stanley of Foxfire Village.
The family received friends at Fry and Prickett Funeral Home on Monday from 6:30- 8:30 p.m..
IRIS McNEILL THOMPSON
Iris McNeill Thompson, 88, of Siler City, died Thursday, (04-07-2011) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
The funeral was held Saturday, (04-09-2011) at 1 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church, with Rev. Brian Sandifer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson was born December 21, 1922, the daughter of Zenas and Annie Kennedy McNeill. A native of Sampson County she worked as a registered nurse for over 30 years at Chatham Hospital. She was a member of Oakley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winfred P. Thompson; two brothers, Levis and Dalton McNeill and sister, Alma Stewart.
Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Palmer of Tobaccoville; son; Phillip Thompson of Siler City; sisters, Daisy Jordan of Kernersville, Faye Campbell of Newport News, VA, Edna Parsons of Troy; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
GRACE NADINE LOUISE FOWLER
Miss Grace Nadine Louise Fowler of Pittsboro, 4 month old daughter of Paul Alan “Mackie” Fowler, II and Staci Renee Kimball died (04-08-2011).
The service to celebrate her life was held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, (04-11-2011) at New Salem Church. Interment was private.
In addition to her parents, Grace is survived by her grandparents, Paul and Winnie Fowler of Pittsboro; half-brother, Thomas Riley Smith of Hillsborough; and half-sister, Lily Catherine Fowler of Pittsboro; She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Teresa Moore Kimball, and grandfather, Jeffrey Thomas Kimball.
BLANCH MANESS HILL
Mrs. Blanch Maness Hill, 96, of Carthage died Thursday (04-07-2011).
Funeral services were held Saturday (04-09-2011) at 2 p.m. from the Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe and Rev. Dale Upchurch officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hill was a Moore county native and retired from Robbins Mill. She was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, where she was a choir member.
Survivors include a son, Willie Lewis Hill of Vass; sister, Clara Lowe of Greensboro; brother, Grover Maness of Carthage; four grandchildren and four great-grand-children.
OTELIER ELLEN JONES McKENZIE
Mrs. Otelier Ellen Jones McKenzie, 75, of Pittsboro, died in her home on Friday, (04-08-2011).
A memorial service and private burial will take place at a later date.
Born in Alamance County on February 2, 1936, she was a daughter of Jasper Jones and Mettie Johnson Jones. She was a retired textile employee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Ivey Mc-Kenzie, three children, two brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.
Survivors include her son, Shawn McKenzie of Siler City; daughter, Nancy Davis of Siler City; brother, David Jones of Sanford; and seven grandchildren.

BISHOP DORA D. LEE
Bishop Dora D. Lee, 58, of Pittsboro died Monday (04-04-2011) at U.N.C. Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held Friday (04-08-2011) at Alston Chapel Church with Bishop Georgia Riley officiating. Burial followed in Deliverance Tabernacle Memorial Garden.
Mrs. Lee was a native of Chatham County.
Survivors include her husband, Elder Lawrence Lee of the home; daughter, Sarina P. Lee, also of the home; son, Gray Lee of Greensboro; mother, Sarah Cotton of Pittsboro; brothers, Jerry Cotton and Charles Cotton, both of Pittsboro; and five grandchildren.
FRANKIE C. STONE
Mr. Frankie C. Stone, 61, of Pittsboro died Tuesday (04-05-2011) at his home.
funeral service was held Saturday (04-09-2011) at Mt. Sinai Church with Rev. Phillip Lynch officiating. Burial followed in Pittsboro Cemetery.
Mr. Stone was a graduate of Horton High School and Livingston College. He worked at U.N.C. Hospital in Chapel Hill for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mildretta M. Stone of the home; daughter, Brittney Stone of Pittsboro; son, William DeGraffenreidt of Sanford; and sister, Bettie Watson of Fort Washington, MD.
RUTH ELIZABETH ROBERSON CLARK
Ruth Elizabeth Roberson Clark, 96, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital, Huntersville.
Mrs. Clark was born November 1, 1914, the daughter of Will and Maude (Dowdy) Roberson. She was a native of Chatham County, one of ten children of a tobacco farmer. She was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church for 78 years where she was former treasurer of her Sunday school class, and worked with the vacation Bible school and nursery. She was also an election poll worker. Ruth enjoyed frying chicken, making chocolate cakes, quilting, mowing her yard and gardening to fill her freezer. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Volner Clark; two step-sons, John Clinton (Dee) Clark and William Joseph (Joe) Clark and son-in-law, Darvin Camp.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Ann Camp of Mooresville; step-son, Curtis M. "Mack" Clark and wife, Mildred of Garner; daughters-in-law, Joyce Clark of Greensboro, Linda Clark of Pittsboro, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Friday, April 9, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, 2430 Silk Hope Gum Springs Road, Pittsboro with Pastor Steve Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

L. HOWARD MOSS III, Ph. D.
L. Howard Moss III, Ph. D., passed away March 24, 2011, following
A native of New York, he also lived for extended periods in Tennessee, Ohio, North Carolina, and Florida. Dr. Moss received his academic degrees at the University of Tennessee and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. After a teaching career in medical schools, he established the first independent full-service diagnostic virology laboratory in the country. He also served in the armed forces as a naval aviator, reaching the rank
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca Moss of Florida; daughter Kristin Moss, her husband Bob King, and grandson, August Moss King of California; and daughter Susan Moss and husband David Herman of Ohio.
No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
JASON KEITH MAYNOR
Jason Keith Maynor, 39, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at UNC Memorial Hospital. Jason was born in Durham County but grew up in Northern Chatham County and attended Pittsboro Schools, graduating in 1990 from Northwood High School.
Mr. Maynor was born September 26, 1971, the son of Pearl Thomas Maynor and the late Homer Wilson Maynor of Chapel Hill. In addition to his mother, survivors include his sister, Robin Maynor May and husband, Brian, of Pittsboro; brothers, Bart Maynor and wife, Su, of Chapel Hill, Jeff Maynor and wife, Terri, of Chapel Hill; and six nieces and nephews.
Jason was an automobile paint finisher for several years before entering the Army in 2003 where he served his country honorably for four years. He received the Combat Action Badge for serving under direct hostile fire during combat operation in Iraq while serving with the 172d Stryker Brigade Combat Team. Sergeant Maynor was honorably discharged in May, 2007. Jason was proud to have served his country in the U. S. Army. Following his military service, he was active in the American Legion, Post 6, and was a member of the VFW Post 9100, both of Chapel Hill.
Jason loved nature and was an avid fisherman. He once wrote that we needed to respect nature because we were a part of it; to live life to the fullest, love it, and be thankful you have one to live.
Visitation was held Saturday, April 9, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro. The Funeral was held Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m., at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, Pittsboro, followed by interment in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery with a full military service. Pastor Dan Robinson and Rev. Wesley Thomas conducted the service. Friends fellowshipped with the family in the church fellowship hall following the service.
