Daniel ‘Dan’ Sigmon
MOORESVILLE — Daniel “Dan” McCaul Sigmon, 81, Charlotte Highway, died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born March 25, 1918, in Catawba County, Mr. Sigmon was a son of the late Leroy Page and Vassie Robinson Sigmon. He had retired from Fiber Industries, now KoSa, in Salisbury.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Mooresville.
His first wife, Lucy Sherrill Sigmon, preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Joyce Hinson Sigmon; sons Charles D. “Danny” Sigmon, Thomas N. “Tom” Sigmon and Spencer A. Sigmon, all of Denver, N.C., and Steven L. “Steve” Sigmon, Hendersonville; stepdaughter Judy Proctor, Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Calvin Sigmon, Sherrills Ford; sisters Helen White, Sherrills Ford, and Christine Sherrill, Denver, N.C.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Cavin Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Dr. D. Steven Gouge, the Rev. Hal D. Greene and the Rev. John E. Brown. Burial, Thompson Memorial Evangelical Methodist Church Cemetery, Denver, N.C.

Edna Coggins Wells
KANNAPOLIS — Edna Louise Coggins Wells, 76, Morganton, formerly of Kannapolis, died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Asheville, after years of declining health.
Born July 8, 1923, in Iredell County, Mrs. Wells was a daughter of the late Jay and Margaret Miller Coggins. She had retired in 1964 from Cannon Mills, Plant 1, sewing room. A Baptist, she had lived in Morganton since 1989.
Her husband, Joseph P. Wells, died in 1986. A son, Robert Earl Beaver, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughter Margaret Beaver McInnis, Harmony; brothers Howard and Banks Coggins, both of Mooresville; and sisters Hazel McKay and Mildred Carver, both of Mooresville.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Rick Miller.
Visitation: 12: 30-1: 30 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home.
Fred Alvin Young
MOCKSVILLE — Fred Alvin Young, 51, Spillman Road, died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem.
Born July 27, 1948, in Guilford County, Mr. Young is a son of Beulah Frazier Young and the late Alvin Young. He was employed at Ingersol-Rand. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of Green Meadows Baptist Church.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Helen Sparks Young; daughters Penny Ann Young, Mocksville, and Elizabeth Koontz, Blacksburg, Va.; brother Charles Ray Young, Advance; and sister Judy Petticord, Mocksville.
Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. Tuesday, Green Meadows Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Greg Little.

Lucy Norton Belk
STONY POINT -- Lucy Norton Belk, 85, 8370 Highway 90 E., died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at her home after an extended illness.
Born Feb. 18, 1914, in Alexander County, Mrs. Belk was a daughter of the late William Stamey and Cora Burgess Norton. She was a member of Stony Point United Methodist Church and a life member of the United Methodist Women. Retired, she taught in the Alexander County school system and was a graduate of Mitchell Community College and Lenoir-Rhyne College. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Teachers Society.
Her husband, Robert Gray Belk, preceded her in death.
Survivors include daughters Nan Campbell, Taylorsville, and Beth Safer, Salisbury; caregiver and companion Johnnie Parker, Stony Point; brother Hulette Norton, Stony Point; sisters Arlene Murph, Kannapolis, Sadie Marlin, Statesville, Myrtle Brandon, Concord, Barbara Grey Hoke, York, S.C., Margaret Eckerd, Mocksville, and Julia Deanne Fegley, Chevy Chase, Md.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Julia Ruth Flagler
LAKELAND, Fla. -- Julia Ruth Flagler, 91, Lakeland, died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
Born Sept. 26, 1907, in Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Flagler was a resident of Bartow for 49 years. She was a homemaker and member of College Heights United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband Dudley W. Flagler; son Dudley C. Flagler, Lakeland; daughter Geraldine "Gerry" Oltz, Lakeland; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Mark Anthony Partee
The funeral will be Friday for Mark Anthony Partee, 35, 119 Knox St., who died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after six and a half years of declining health.
Born Dec. 8, 1963, in Heidelberg, Germany, he was a son of John Leroy Partee Sr. and Susie Bell Nicks Partee. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he was a construction worker and a member of Northside Church of God of Prophecy, East Spencer.
Survivors include brothers John Leroy Partee Jr. and Lyndon A Partee, both of Salisbury, and Herbert Partee of the home.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Northside Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by Bishop James Lott, pastor. Burial, Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Bennie Frank Sponaugle
ROCKWELL -- Bennie Frank Sponaugle, 83, Gold Hill, died Tuesday (Sept. 28, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born June 6, 1916, in Hunting Ground, W.Va., he was a son of the late Gilbert and Annie Mallow Sponaugle. Educated in Circleville High School, he was a heavy equipment operator. A Baptist, he sang in choirs. He was a member of Pendleton County Masonic Lodge 144.
Survivors include daughter Sharon Gagnon, Gold Hill; brother Gilbert Sponaugle, Hunting Ground, W.Va.; sister Mary Bennett, Olm Sted Township, Ohio; half sister Halene Ogden, Bowden, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Northfork Baptist Church, Franklin, W.Va., conducted by the Rev. Mark McAllister. Burial, North Fork Memorial Cemetery.

Viola Earnhardt Eller
ROCKWELL -- The funeral will be Thursday for Viola Earnhardt Eller, 97, who died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at Salisbury Lutheran Home after a period of declining health.
Born July 6, 1902, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late John Calvin and Ida Mahaley Earnhardt. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the WELCA, Arthur Shipton Sunday School Class, and was a charter member of the Rockwell Young at Hearts Club.
Her husband, Travis Littleton Eller Sr., died on July 19, 1982; a son, Travis L. Eller Jr., died July 3, 1961.
Survivors include son John Calvin Eller Sr., Rockwell; daughters Doris E. Jordon and Betty Tutherow, both of Rockwell, Lucille E. Cook, Kannapolis, Elva Rae Huneycutt, Albemarle, and Judy E. Hoffner, Gold Hill; sister Rose Lyerly, Salisbury; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 4 p.m. Thursday, Immanual Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks, pastor, the Rev. Glenn Yount, and the Rev. Johnny Daniels, pastor of East Corinth Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 3: 30. Burial, church cemetery. The Rockwell Young Hearts Club will be seated as a group in the church.

Ruth Deal Feimster
MOUNT ULLA -- The funeral will be Thursday for Ruth Deal Feimster, 73, 9120 Fannie Sloan Road, Mount Ulla, who died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at her home after five years of declining health.
Born June 21, 1926, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde O. and Myrtle Freize Deal. A graduate of China Grove High School, she retired from Cannon Mills Company in 1995. She was a member of Thyatira Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include husband William "Bill" Richard Feimster; son Gary Feimster, Mount Ulla; daughters Karen Townsend and Gwen Davis, both of Mount Ulla; brothers Frank Deal, Millbridge; Billy Mac Deal, China Grove, and Alvin Deal, Denver; sisters Margaret Ridenhour and Faye Sutton, both of Salisbury, and Sue Gallman, Columbus, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Thursday, Thyatira Presbyterian Church, conducted by Dr. Stephen Moss. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: Following the service at the church on Thursday. The body may be viewed at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home from 3 to 6 p.m. today and 9a.m.-12 noon on Thursday. At other times the family will be at the home on Fannie Sloan Road.
