Charles Austin Prucha
MOORESVILLE — Charles Austin Prucha, 88, 231 W. Statesville Ave., died Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1911, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mr. Prucha was a son of the late Velma Tong and William Prucha. He had been a jewelry mold maker.
His wife, Josephine Greco Prucha, died Feb. 3, 1992.
Survivors include sons William Prucha, Gloucester, Va., Carlo Prucha, Etowah, Charles Prucha Jr., Mooresville, and Bernard Prucha, New York City; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: 7 tonight, Neill Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carlo Greco. The body will be cremated.
Visitation: Following the service at the funeral home.
Maude Johnston Webster
MOORESVILLE — Maude Johnston Webster, 77, 212 Oak Tree Road, died Saturday (Sept. 25, 1999) at Genesis ElderCare.
Born Feb. 24, 1922, in Mecklenburg County, Mrs. Webster was a daughter of the late Lula Alexander and John Johnston. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include husband John Webster; sons Ray and James Webster, both of Mooresville; daughters Nancy Moore and Shirley Nichols, both of Mooresville; brother Alfred Johnston, Elkin; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Community Baptist Church, Mount Mourne, conducted by the Rev. J.R. Speace and the Rev. Lawrence Ownbey. Burial, church cemetery.

Edith Neel Gardner
A graveside service will be held Tuesday for Edith Neel Gardner, 83, 820 Klumac Road, formerly of North Fulton Street, who died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.
Born Dec. 21, 1915, in Salisbury, Mrs. Gardner was a daughter of the late Dr. John Malcolm and Minnie Glenn Neel. She was educated in the Salisbury schools and at Salisbury Business College. She had been employed by Rustin Furniture in Greensboro.
She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Maupin Avenue Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, Joseph Allen Gardner, died Oct. 27, 1984.
Survivors include daughter Josephine Gardner Phillips, Raleigh, and one granddaughter.
Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday graveside service, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Fred H. Crisco, pastor of Maupin Avenue ARPChurch.

Mildred Lyons
The funeral will be Wednesday for Mildred Ann Weddington Lyons, 72, Salisbury, who died Friday (Sept. 24, 1999) at Lancaster Community Hospital, Lancaster, Calif., after six weeks of serious illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Rowan County, Mrs. Lyons was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Geneva Lorene Hess Weddington. Educated in the Concord schools, she had retired from A&P. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Concord, and an associate member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury.
Her husband, William Roddie Lyons, preceded her in death.
Survivors include son Richard Lyons, with whom she made her home; a brother, the Rev. Guion Thomas Weddington, Taylorsville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Marcus B. Hovis III. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-8: 30 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.

Ruby Green Burris
OAKBORO — Ruby Lydiabell Green Burris, 78, 16067 Big Lick Road, died Sunday (Sept. 26, 1999) at Stanly Manor, Albemarle.
Born July 15, 1921, in Albemarle, Mrs. Burris was a daughter of the late Silas and Lula Huneycutt Green. Educated at Oakboro School, she had retired from Allison Manufacturing. She was a member of Big Lick Baptist Church.
Survivors include husband Sam Felix Burris; son Donny Joe Burris, Oakboro; daughter Linda B. Clontz, Albemarle; brothers Melvin Green, Troutman, Olin Green, Stanfield, and Paul Green, New London; sister Doris Green, Oakboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Big Lick Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Larry Linker. The body will be placed in the church prior to the service. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times the family will be at the home of grandson Jeremy Efird, 16063 Big Lick Road.
Miriam ‘Midge’ Beck Fox
GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Wednesday for Miriam “Midge” Beck Fox, 69, Ellenwood, Ga., formerly of Granite Quarry, who died Thursday (Sept. 23, 1999) in Las Vegas while on a bus trip with her family.
Born March 27, 1930, in Rowan County, Mrs. Fox was a daughter of the late Luther Bruce and Lillie Brown Beck. A 1948 graduate of Granite Quarry High School, she was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Forest Park, Ga., and a former member of Christiana Lutheran Church.
Survivors include husband Harry Judd Fox, whom she married Jan. 30, 1949; sons Harry J. Fox Jr., Macon, Ga., Jeffrey Lane Fox, Breman, Ga., and Jonathon Bryan Fox, Ellenwood, Ga.; sisters Doris Ritchie and Mrs. Carr (Frances) Peeler, both of Salisbury; and two grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Wednesday, Christiana Lutheran Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Carl Haynes.

Katherine G. Jenkins
KANNAPOLIS — Katherine Gentle Jenkins, 85, formerly of 421 S. Bostian Ave., died Tuesday (Sept. 28, 1999) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after seven years of declining health and two weeks of serious illness.
Born Dec. 25, 1913, in Rowan County, Mrs. Jenkins was a daughter of the late William Gaston and Ella Jane Donahue Gentle.
Her husband, the Rev. Henry Jenkins, died Feb. 14, 1979.
Survivors include daughters Betty Jo Livengood and Ruby Lee Wagoner, both of Kannapolis; sons Billy and Pernell Jenkins, both of Kannapolis, and Richard P. Jenkins, Rocky Mount; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Elwood Lane Original Free Will Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Parrish. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation: Noon-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Juanita Cox Leonard
BADIN — Juanita Cox Leonard, 86, 52 Maple St., died Monday (Sept. 27, 1999) at Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
Born Jan. 4, 1913, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Leonard was a daughter of the late Jessie and Martha Rinehardt Cox. Formerly employed by Concord Telephone Co., she was a member of Badin United Methodist Church and a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary.
A son, Mike Leonard, died in 1998.
Survivors include husband C. Nesbitt Leonard; son Perry Leonard, Badin; daughters Diane L. Waggoner, Gastonia, and Kay L. Deese, Badin; sister Breta Jones, Muskogee, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Paul Lamont Rusher
Paul Lamont Rusher, 81, 1703 Grove St., Maitland, Fla., a Rowan County native, died Friday (Sept. 17, 1999) at the VAMedical Center in Tampa, Fla., after a period of declining health.
Born Jan. 29, 1918, Mr. Rusher was a son of the late Walter and Essie Mahaley Rusher. Educated in the Rowan County schools, he had retired from the real estate business.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Winter Park, Fla.
Survivors include wife Della Holshouser Rusher, whom he married Oct. 18, 1949; sons Ronald Rusher, Valdosta, Ga., Phil Rusher, Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Keith Rusher, Maitland, Fla.; brothers Robert, Worth, Floyd and Jay Rusher, all of Salisbury; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 1 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Hollar, pastor, Messiah Lutheran Church. military rites by Rowan County Veterans Council.
