Elaine Cress Carr

BLACK MOUNTAIN – Elaine Cress Carr entered into eternal rest on December 6, 2009 at the John F. Keever Solace Center.
She was the daughter of the late Ora and Cloe Cress, and predeceased by her sister, Genena Hale. Mrs. Carr was married to Leonard Carr in 1945 who died in 1980. She spent 45 years in Miami, FL having moved there in 1947. Mrs. Carr moved to Black Mountain in 1992.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Sandy Fleener, and her husband, Kent; granddaughter, Wendi Fleener; and grandson, Marshall Fleener; and several nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Black Mountain United Methodist Church with the Revs. Lynda Briggs, Rick Mills, and Gerald Collins officiating. Burial will be at the Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami, FL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Black Mountain United Methodist Church Building Fund.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brigman's funeral service in Black Mountain.
Albert Wilson Jr.

Swannanoa - Albert Wilson Jr. went to be with his Heavenly Father November, 28th at Grace Health Care after a long battle with Alzheimers.
Albert was the son of the late Albert and Ethel Wilson. He was predeceased by his wife Pauline of 58 years and a son Mike Wilson in 2005. Mr. Wilson was a 20 year Veteran of the Air Force where he was an instructor for pilots in bomb deployment and radar use during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the Military, Albert went to work for Orkin Pest Control as a manager and retired after 20 years of service. His love for the Lord lead him to become an ordained minister and serve Grovestone Baptist Church for many years. He was a great father and loved to dote over his grandchildren especially when it was ice cream time.
Albert is survived by a daughter Paula Hunsinger (Bruce), sons John Wilson (Bea), Hank Wilson (Kathy), and Jeff Wilson (Cynthia), sisters Lola Gary, Edith Charles, and Ruby Hunter, brothers James, Woodrow, John, and Frank Wilson. He leaves behind 9 grand children and 6 great grand children and a large church family.
The funeral service will be Tuesday, 7:00 pm at the Grovestone Baptist Church, the family will receive friends at 6:00 pm until the service hour at the church. Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain with full military honors.
The family would like to thank the staff of Grace Health Care for the care they provided Mr. Wilson. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the building fund of Grovestone Baptist Church in Swannanoa.
Howard A. Proctor, Sr.
Mr. Howard A. Proctor, Sr., 74, of 803 Vanderford Street, Burlington died at Moses Cone Hospital on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 8:25 a.m.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the husband of Ruth McAdams Proctor, who survives and the son of Ansel Pinkney Proctor and Ollie Mae McSwain Proctor, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, Airman 1st Class. Mr. Proctor was a member of Burlington Assembly of God, a Gideon and a Mason.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Mary Beth Dawson (Joe) of Kinston; his son, Mr. Howard Ansel “HAP” Proctor, Jr. (Melissa) of Wake Forest; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Rankin (Jim) and Mrs. Betty Hallman (David), all of Lincolnton; two brothers, Mr. Eugene Proctor (Becky) of Simpsonville, SC and Mr. Calvin Proctor (Deane) of Conover; and special family, Mrs. Judy Edwards (Danny), Mr. Bryan Edwards and Addison, Mrs. Carol Smith (Wayne) and Ms. Doris Balog, all of Burlington; Mrs. Becky Massey (Sam) of Virginia and Craig and Grace Mosteller of Lincolnton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Mosteller.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Burlington Assembly of God on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Howard Thompson.
The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 11:45 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Other times they will be at the residence.

Eulus Morgan

Eulus Morgan, 67, passed away after a lengthy illness Tuesday, November 17th, 2009, at the Charles George VA Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was the son of the late Russell and Nellie Morgan. Eulus was predeceased by brothers Louis Morgan, Wreston Morgan, and Kenneth Morgan. Eulus served his country from 1964 till 1966 in the Dominican Republic in the 503rd MP Battalion. After his military service he worked as a Truck Driver until his retirement.
He is survived by sisters Macy Watts of Alexandria, VA; Dottie Shoemaker (Bion) of Inman SC; and Jean Hull (Heyward) of Chapel Hill, NC; and brother, Ray Morgan of Houston Texas.
The burial service will be Friday at 10:00 am at the WNC State Veteran's Cemetery with Military honors. A memorial service led by first cousin Dr. Bob Morgan will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel of Brigman's funeral service in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Hospice unit at the Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
Wesley Herbert Rice

Swannanoa-Wesley Herbert Rice entered into eternal rest Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at his home.
He was the son of the late Lawson and Texana Rice. Wesley was predeceased by a sister Vera Carson, brothers Perry Rice, Joe Rice, and Wiley Rice. Mr. Rice loved to work in the garden, play music, and to work his sawmill. Wesley loved to talk to everyone about the Bible. Many people will say that his ability to speak of God's word was a gift. He was a great husband, dad, and grandfather. Wesley had many recipes that his family and friends loved for him to prepare. He worked for the Black Mountain Center for 23 years as a kitchen supervisor.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Berniece Rice, daughters Joyce Jarvis (Mark), Vickie Rice (John) sons Michael Rice (Jan) and Leslie Bowens, brothers Dallas Rice and Zeke Rice and a sister Harriet Ledford. His grandchildren are Shane, Shannon, Donna, Megan, Selina, and Tanya. The great grandchildren are Bridgett Caleb, Ezra, Solomon, Payton, Serenity, Brandy, Devin Anthony, Colby, and Berielle.
The funeral service will be Friday, 1:00 pm at Peek's Chapel in Mars Hill, burial will follow at the Rice Cemetery on East Fork. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6pm till 8 pm at Brigman's funeral service in Black Mountain. Reverend's Mark Jarvis and Billy Murray will be conducting the services.
Mae Buckner Fox

Fairview - Mae Buckner Fox entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November. 8th 2009 with her family by her side.
She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Matilda Buckner. Mae was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Gilbert Fox, by two daughters, two sons, and all of her brothers and sisters. Mrs. Fox was an avid gardener who loved flowers. This was the first year that she did not put her garden out. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters Louise Sales of St Augustine FL, Janice Wright of Fletcher, Charlotte Foley (Jim) of Candler, and Darlene Maynor (Ronnie) of Fairview and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday in the Chapel of Brigman's funeral service in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm till the service hour at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery.
MABEL TALLY PHILLIPS
Mabel Tally Phillips, 92, formerly of Bear Creek, died Thursday, (09-29-2011) at Universal Health Care of Ramseur.
The funeral was held Saturday, (10-01-2011) at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Phillips; daughters, Marie Gaines, Clara Mae Phillips; parents and siblings, Victor Tally, Marjorie Gaines and Alene Beck.
Survivors include daughters, Betty P. Ruggiero of Fort Pierce, FL, Nancy P. Fields of Chesapeake, VA, Judy P. Councilman of Bear Creek; sister, Nellie Gaines of Siler City; ten grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
TIMOTHY BRUCE SAUNDERS
Timothy Bruce Saunders, 48, of Robbins, passed away Friday (09-30-2011) at his home.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Monday (10-03-2011) at the Saunders Family Cemetery with Rev. Gary Melchin officiating.
Mr. Saunders was a Randolph County native and a sawyer for Brady Sawmill in Coleridge. He attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Carthage.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Parks Saunders of the home; sons, Douglas Saunders of Bennett, John Saunders of the home; parents, Clyde and Clara B. Saunders of Robbins; brothers, Randy Saunders, Steve Saunders, both of High Falls, Billy Saunders of Robbins; sisters, Sandra Hall of High Falls, Becky Medlin of Waynesville; and one granddaughter.
FRANCES DELANO PRESSLEY HESS
Mrs. Frances Delano Pressley Hess, 77, formerly of the Bear Creek community died Saturday, (10-01-2011) at the Laurels of Chatham.
A memorial gathering was held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, (10-05-2011) at Hall - Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro with Pastor Bob Wachs presiding.
A native of Yazoo, MS., Mrs. Hess was born February 3, 1934, the daughter of Charlie Franklin Pressley and Ethel Mae Butler Pressley. Mrs. Hess was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Louis W. Hess, Jr.; sons, Donald Blaine Hart of Pittsboro and Charles Muril Hart of Hillsborough.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association of NC, 2418 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
WILLIAM ALBERT PIGGIE
Mr. William Albert Piggie, 76, of Pittsboro died Monday (09-26-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Thursday (09-29-2011) at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Chalmers officiating.
Mr. Piggie served his country during the Korean Conflict and worked 30 years for Safeway.
JOHN DAVID BROWN
Mr. John David Brown, 68, of Chapel Hill died Monday (09-05-2011) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday (09-10-2011) at Staunton Memorial CME Church, with Rev. Albert S. Williams officiating. Burial followed at Pittsboro Cemetery.
Mr. Brown was a member of Staunton Memorial Church and a graduate of Chatham County Schools. He had worked at Belk Leggett and Horton Insurance Company.
Surviving is his mother, Nannie Brown Boldin of the home; one son, Christopher David Brown of Cedar Grove, sister, Claire Boldin; brother, Elonzo Boldin of Chapel Hill; and three grandchildren.
