DAVID REID HARRIS

David Reid Harris, 64, of Southport, died Sunday, (01-01-2006).

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Trish Harris of Shallotte Point; daughter, Kimberly Choate of Mocksville; son, Mark Harris of Asheboro; sister, Pat Watts of Siler City; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Harris was born in Mebane, but grew up in Siler City, was a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School. and was employed by Shallotte Rent-All.

Memorials may be directed to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 10 Doctor’s Circle, Suite 4, Supply, N.C. 28462.

QUEEN ESTHER PRICE

Mrs. Queen Esther Price, 95, of Siler City died Sunday, (01-01-2006).

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Thursday, (01-05-2006) at Gees Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Allen Moore, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Gee’s Grove U.M.C. where she taught Sunday school, was a member of the senior choir, the stewardess board, and the community circle. She was last employed at Chatham Novelties.

Survivors include daughters, Christine Price Williams of the home, Alberta Price Henderson of Morris Plains, N.J.; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

PATRICIA MARTIN BROOKS

Patricia Martin Brooks, 54, of Harrisonburg, Va., died Thursday, (01-05-2006) at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (01-08-2006) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City with Brother Clyde Lewis Headen officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Brooks was a native of Chatham County. She was employed with Quality Veneer of Liberty.

Survivors include her husband, Thomas C. Brooks, Sr. of Harrisonburg, Va.; daughters, Patricia “Dawn” King, Tamika Brooks; sons, William “Butch” King, Thomas Brooks, Jr., all of Harrisonburg, Va.; brother, Calvin Martin of Siler City; sister, Elaine Mowery of Asheboro; and six grandchildren.

Donations for the family at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

JOANN GOODWIN

JoAnn Goodwin, 65 of Cedar Point died Thursday, (01-05-2006) at her home.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (01-08-2006) at her home in Cedar Point.

Survivors include sons, Ronnie Phillips of Cedar Point, Neal Phillips of Greensboro, Keith Phillips of Lucust Grove, Ga.; sister, Ila Albright of Rockingham; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 1114 Magnolia Street, Greensboro, N.C. 27401 or to the Hospice of ones choice.

NETTA FAYE DOOLIN

Netta Faye Doolin, 30, of Bear Creek, died Saturday, (01-07-2006) at her home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, (01-09-2006) at Holly Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church in Ramseur with Rev. Mark Ainsworth, officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Danny E. Doolin, II of Bear Creek; daughters, Hallie Dudley, Savannah Dudley, Bethanie Dudley; and her mother, Oma Hess Anderson, all of Alta Vista, Va.

EDITH GRIFFIN PASCHAL MOORE

Edith Griffin Paschal Moore, 83, of Robbins, died Saturday, (01-07-2006) at Pine Lake Health & Rehab in Carthage.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (01-10-2006) at the First Baptist Church in Robbins, with Dr. Zeb Moss and Rev. Arnold Comer officiating. Burial followed in Pine Rest cemetery.

Mrs. Moore was a native of Chatham County, and a member of the First Baptist Church in Robbins. She was owner and operator of Seagrove Broiler, Inc.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Paschal Comer of Robbins; step-daughter, Judith Moore Jarman of Robbins; brothers, Jerry Pickard of Asheboro, Jack Pickard of Bonlee; sisters, Frances Robbins, Cloyce Poe, Ruby Blair, all of Siler City, Aline Lambert of Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Robbins First Baptist Church, PO Box 400, Robbins, N.C. 27325; or Community Home Care and Hospice, 185 W. Illinois Avenue, Southern Pines, N.C. 28387.

CHARLES BROWER SMITH

Charles Brower Smith, 77, of Siler City died Saturday, (01-07-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (01-09-2006) at Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Ramseur with Rev. Bob Dowling and Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Randolph County, and a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church and the men’s Sunday school class.

Survivors include his wife, Della Mae Gilliland Smith of Siler City; sons, Glenn Ray Smith, Charles Wayne Smith, both of Siler City; sisters, Cornelia S. Buckner of Siler City, Helen S. Slaughter of High Point; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery, cfo Nina Burgess, 6705 Burgess-Kivett Road, Ramseur, N.C. 27316.

ROBERT EDMOND HOLT

Robert Edmond Holt, 71, of Siler City died Monday, (01-09-2006) at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, (01-14-2006) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Dr. Harold M. Stone officiating.

Mr. Holt was a native of Greenville, S.C. and owner-operator of Tri-City Transmission for over 30 years. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Church of God, Greensboro.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Moody Holt of Siler City; daughter, Diane Holt of Henderson, NV; step-son, Larry Worden of Henderson, MD; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday, (01-14-2006) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.

LUCILLE CLARK WILLIAMS

Lucille Clark Williams, 83, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (01-09-2006) in Laurels of Chatham.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (01-12-2006) at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Wesley Thomas, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She was a native of Chatham County and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Peggy Shepherd of Sanford, Helen Klass of Kinston; sons, Charles “Buddy” Williams, Forrest Williams, both of Pittsboro; sisters, Maxine Morris of Pittsboro, Glennie Smith of Raleigh; brother, L.C. Clark of Sanford; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, (01-12-2006) at Rock Springs Baptist Church.

GRACE ELIZABETH PICKETT STOUT

Grace Elizabeth Pickett Stout, 86, of Pleasant Garden, formerly of Wrenn-Culberson Road, Siler City died Saturday, January 7, 2006 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2006, at Rocky River Friends Meeting, Siler City with David Hobson, Wallace Sills and Thomas Butt, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stout was a native of Randolph County, retired from Hardins Florist, Liberty and a member of Rocky River Friends Meeting. She was preceded in death by her husband, M. Edgar Stout, Sr., and a son, Maurice Edgar Stout, Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Carol Stout of Pleasant Garden; sister, Dorothy May of Alamance; grandchildren, Daniel Stout and wife, Jennifer, Jennifer Stout, Amy Stout; special friends, Alice Carroll, Cleatus Wicker; and former daughter-in-law, Rebecca Langley.

Memorials may be made to Rocky River Friends Meeting, 8217 Silk Hope-Liberty Road, Siler City, N.C. 27344-4467.

ETTIE MAE WELCH HEDRICK

Ettie Mae Welch Hedrick, 85, of Siler City died Sunday, January 8, 2006 at SunBridge Care Facilities.

Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Oakwood Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Whittaker, officiating.

Mrs. Hedrick was a native of Moore County and retired from Hadley-Peoples Manufacturing Company.

Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Holt and husband, Earl of Siler City; son, Harold Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Lacy Welch of Bennett; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

RUTH HESTER HOUSTON

Ruth Hester Houston, 88, of Hickory died Saturday, (12-31-05) at the Lutheran Home East.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (01-03-2006) at Bass-Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Birner and Rev. Paul Sundbom officiating. Burial followed at Eastview Cemetery in Newton.

Mrs. Houston was a homemaker, and a member of Abernethy Memorial Methodist Church in Newton, where she was a life member of the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include sons, Melford Houston, Phil Houston, both of Conover; daughters, Dixie Ingram, Sherry Kenworthy, both of Hickory, Jill Gunter of Bear Creek; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Palliative Care Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.

JANET FOX MATNEY

Janet Fox Matney, of Greensboro, died Saturday, (12-31-05) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.

Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (01-02-05) at Loves Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Matney was a native of Chatham County, retired secretary with Electric Supply Company and was of the Baptist faith.

No immediate survivors.
