CURTIS MARLEY
James Curtis Marley, 95, of 410 North Third Court, Siler City died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Sunbridge Care Facilities.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating.
Mr. Marley was a native of Lee County and operated Marley's Cleaners for many years. He was an avid quail hunter and loved people. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Peace Marley, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his son, D. Reid Marley and wife, Lynne of Siler City; three grandchildren, Rita Rene, Carolyn, Jim and four great-grandchildren.
OMER (BUD) SUITS
Omer (Bud) Suits, 82, of 2128 Stockyard Road, Staley died Monday, January 23, 2006 in VA Medical Center in Durham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Brookdale Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Randy Queen and Rev. Walter Jones, officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City with military honors.
Mr. Suits was a native of Guilford County, a farmer and was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest A. and Floy Kidd Suits, sister, Margaret S. Reddick, and granddaughter, Ashley Suits.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Foy Suits of Staley; sons, Eddie Suits and wife Shirley of Siler City, Norman Suits and wife, Lezlie of Bear Creek, Johnny Suits and wife Denise of Staley; sisters, Opal S. Johnson of Jamestown, Grace S. Lewis of Archdale, Margie S. Cox and husband Darrell of Trinity; brother-in-law, James Reddick of Archdale; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

LOREE T. HANCOCK
Loree Teague Hancock, 87, of 449 Wedgewood Drive, Woodruff, S.C. died Monday, January 23, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare.
Born in Cocke County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Robert Harrison and Ethel Burke Teague, Sr., and the widow of Lewis Hancock.
She was a member of Cavins Baptist Church, a homemaker, loving wife and mother.
Mrs. Hancock is survived by three daughters, Barbara Hancock White and her husband Jerry of Bear Creek, their daughter, Jodie Phillips and husband Shane and their son Carter; Brenda H. Verdell of Inman, S.C., her children, Dr. Jamie Rentz Jr., Jon Rentz and Kim Miller; Betty Jo H. Taylor of Woodruff, S.C., her children, Jason L. Taylor, Jamie P. Taylor, Robin Schrader and Lori Casey; a son, Benjamin L. Hancock of Cayce, S.C., his sons, Christopher T. Hancock of Lexington and Matthew L. Hancock of Columbia; two brothers, Frank Teague of Laurens and Curtis O’Dell Teague of Decatur, Alabama; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hancock was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Julie White, daughter of Barbara and Jerry White.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 26th at Lanford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2005 at Lanford Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Doug Huntsinger and Rev. Carrol Caldwell. Interment will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.

DR. MARY FRANCIS GYLES
Services for Dr. Mary Francis Gyles, 87, were held at two p.m. Friday, January 20, 2006 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Denmark, S.C. with burial at the Blackville, S.C. Cemetery.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Clubs of S.C. Scholarship Fund, % JoAnn Johnson, 9859 Highway 90, Little River, S.C. 2956; or to Christ Episcopal Church, Scraps Garden, P.O. Box 237, Denmark, S.C. 29042.
Dr. Gyles died Tuesday at her home, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Blackville, S.C. she was a daughter of the late Dr. Ronald C. and Valeria Still Gyles. She was a graduate of Siler City High School, , the University of N.C., Greensboro, and the University of Chicago. She received her Masters from the University of Illinois, her Doctorate Degree (PhD) from the University of N.C., Chapel Hill and studied Ancient History in Belgium. She was head of the History Dept. and taught for 23 years at Brooklyn College. She also taught at Memphis State and USC Aiken. She retired as a professor of Ancient History.
She was an active and life member of the Blackville Garden Club, the S.C. Garden Clubs, Inc., served on the State Board for a number of years, was National Life member, Regional Life member, served as a National Accredited Master Judge for the Garden Clubs, Inc., and edited a book, Public Gardens of S.C.
She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, Denmark, S.C. where she landscaped and designed, Scraps Garden that was dedicated by the Bishop.
She was a breeder of champion English bulldogs and was a world traveler.
Survivors include her sister, Elsie G. Pettebone of Blackville; niece and nephews, John E. Pettebone, Jr. and Bonnie D. Pettebone, Kathleen E. Long and Eugene Long, Jr., Ronnie Gyles and Dixon P. Gyles.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald C. Gyles, Jr., grandparents, Dr. Ryan A. and Francis Pollard Gyles.

EVA HELEN ISRAEL DUCKETT
Eva Helen Israel Duckett, 83, of Asheville died on Friday, January 20, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital Campus following an extended illness.
Mrs. Duckett was born on June 18, 1922 in Rosman, NC, the daughter of George Meyer and Hassie Whitmire Israel. She graduated from Rosman High School in 1939 as Salutatorian of her class and was a member of the varsity basketball team. She graduated from Asheville College, formerly Asheville Normal and Teachers College, with a BS Degree in Elementary Education and from the University of Virginia with a Masters Degree in Supervision and Administration.
Mrs. Duckett spent 35 years in public school education and retired as Supervisor of Elementary Education for the Frederick County Virginia Schools. She was a former member and officer of Delta Kappa Gamma, an international organization for Key Women Educators. She was a member of Asheville Normal and Teachers College Alumnae where she served as President and in other offices. She was also a member and officer in music clubs and Quota Clubs in Virginia and North Carolina as well as Colonial Literary Club.
Mrs. Duckett was married to Fred A. Duckett for 62 happy years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter; Joyce Duckett Gibson, and her husband, Bob, of Siler City, grandsons; Gregory, of Kauhajoki, Finland; David, and his wife Melissa, of Waxhaw, NC; Michael, of Hickam AFB Hawaii; two great granddaughters; Elizabeth and Kathryn Gibson, of Waxhaw, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother; Albert Meyer Israel.
She has been a member of the First Baptist Church, Asheville since 1985 where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for 20 years, Deacon, Jubilee Choir member and on numerous committees and mission organizations.
A Celebration of Life was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church of Asheville with the Reverend Dr. Guy Sayles, Pastor, and staff officiating.
Committal service was held at 2 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Music Dept., First Baptist Church of Asheville, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, N.C. 28801 or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 5779, Asheville, N.C. 28813.

DAVID RAY HACKNEY
David Ray Hackney, 61, of Pittsboro, died Wednesday (01-11-2006) at his residence.
Services were private.
Hackney, a native of Chatham County, served in the National Guard for a number of years and retired from AA&T (at “The Big Hole”).He was last employed with Pittsboro Appliance Sales.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracee H. Whitaker; mother, Ernestine C. Hackney; brother, Archie Hackney, all of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of one’s choice.
OLA S. COWARD
Ola Stuart Coward, 87, of Ramseur died Sunday, (01-15-2006) at Universal Health Care.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m, Tuesday (01-17-2006) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. A. J. Kendrick officiating. Burial followed in Parks Crossroads Christian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Coward was a native of Randolph County, a homemaker, retired from Coward Plumbing and attended Mt. Olivet Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include Thomas Coward of Ramseur; and brother, Jesse Stuart.

ANNIE RUTH PERRY FOX
Annie Ruth Perry Fox, 84, of 2455 Silk Hope-Liberty Road, Siler City died Monday, January 16, 2006 at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 3631 Mt. Vernon-Hickory Mountain Road, Siler City with Rev. Lamont Hemminger, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Fox was a native of Chatham County, a member of Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, Methodist youth, UMW, in the church choir, and retired from Chatham Foods. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Fox.
Survivors include a daughter, Becky Ann Fox Baldwin of Pinehurst; son, Richard E. Fox of Siler City; grandchildren, Michael Fox, Debra Fields, Angela Baldwin Keith, Ashley Baldwin Prince; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, William Clay Perry of Siler City.
Visitation was scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 Wednesday, January 18 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. At other times, the family will be at the home of Doris Perry Thomas, 2349 Epps Clark Road in Siler City.

WINFRED WAYNE BRADY
Winfred Wayne Brady, 83 of Myrtle Beach, S.C. died Sunday, (01-15-2006).
Memorial service arrangements are incomplete.
Mr. Brady was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Siler City High School, and attended the University of North Carolina before joining the US Navy during World War II. He was a Lincoln-Mercury dealer in Siler City at one time, but retired with the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Sutton Brady; sons, Wayne Brady, Barry Brady, Alan Brady; daughters, Tina Whatley, Terri Barksdale, Kathy Boehling; sister, Sarah B. Husband of Siler City; fourteen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
RALPH RUSSELL JONES
Ralph Russell Jones, 80 of Bear Creek died Saturday, (01-14-2006) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, (01-16-2006) at Fall Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jesse Brady, Winfred Brady, Aaron Jones, Phil Wilson, Gerry Phillips and Johnny Sullivan. Members of the Adult Men’s Sunday school class served as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Jones was a native of Chatham County, a WW II Army veteran, a retired poultry and cattle farmer. He was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church, the Adult Men’s Sunday school class, and had served as caretaker for the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Honeycutt Jones of the home; daughters, Jenny Jones Burns of Bear Creek, Donna Jones DelaCourt of Raleigh; sister, Mrs. Willa Horner of Robbins; and four grandchildren.
