DONNIE R. LEE
Donnie R. Lee, 47, of Siler City, died Monday, (05-15-2006) at Asheboro health & Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (05-20-2006) at Holy Trinity United Holy Church with Rev. Samuel B. Obie officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lee was a member of Holy Trinity United Holy Church, a U.S. Army veteran, and an employee of Wake and Company.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Atwater of Durham; daughters, Kim Lee, Latishia Atwater, both of Durham; son, Thomas Atwater of Durham; mother, Shirley Lee of Siler City; sisters, Shirelle Lee of Siler City, Sharlene Lee of Downington, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
DALE WAYNE STALEY
Dale Wayne Staley, 43, of Siler City died Monday, (05-22-2006) at Chatham Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, (05-25-2006), at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian, with Rev. Mark Walters, officiating.
Mr. Staley was a native of Chatham County and was employed with March Furniture of Ramseur. He was a member of Living Waters Baptist Church in Greensboro.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Lee Staley of Liberty; daughter, Erica Michelle Staley of Climax; parents, Arthur Eugene and Lillian Hathcox Staley of Siler City; brother, Larry Staley of Siler City; and sister, Tammy Staley of Roanoke, Va.
ROBERT EUGENE (CHALK) ANDREWS
Robert Eugene (Chalk) Andrews, 62, of 1040 Lee Emerson Road, Bear Creek died Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006 at Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Val Chadwick officiating.
Mr. Andrews was a native of Chatham County, retired from the Chatham County Sheriff's Department after 24 years service and was presently employed with Gold Kist, Bonlee Division. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertis and Edna Routh Andrews and a granddaughter, Lauren Andrews.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Kiser Andrews of the home; son, Bradley R. Andrews and wife, Amy of Bear Creek; brother, Glenn Andrews of Bennett; sisters, Hilda A. White, Mary Ruth A. Poe, both of Siler City, Peggy A. Weaver of Bennett, Linda A. Fesmire of Ramseur, Nancy A. Purvis of Bennett, Inez A. Hussey of Ramseur; and one granddaughter, Kelsey Andrews.

ERVIN L. "BUDDY" ROUTH, JR.
Ervin L. "Buddy" Routh, Jr., 71, of 3766 Chatham Street, Bennett, passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006 at his residence.
Graveside funeral service was held Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Patrick Fuller and Rev. Timothy Strider officiating.
Mr. Routh was a Chatham County native and attended Brush Creek Baptist Church. He was a retired loom fixer at Ramtex in Ramseur and owner and operator of Routh's Grocery in Bennett. He was also an associate member of Tri-County Ruritan Club.
Mr. Routh is survived by his wife, Rebecca Dixon Routh of the home.

ROBERT W. FOSTER
Robert W. Foster, age 87, of Croasdaile Village, Durham, died on May 20, 2006 of pneumonia.
He was born July 22, 1918 in Monticello, Ill, son of Agnes Nichol Foster and Thomas J. Foster. Mr. Foster was predeceased by his former wife, Mary Ellen Sturdevant Foster and is survived by his wife Marjanne Gmelin Foster; his son Dr. James R. Foster; and two daughters, Patricia Foster Haines, Nancy Elizabeth Foster; eight grandchildren, six great-granddaughters, and one great-grandson. Also, Mr. Foster has two step daughters, Deborah Walker Ridolfi and Mary-Elizabeth Walker Jackson, seven step-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Foster graduated from Swarthmore College, class of 1940. Before he retired, he was president and CEO of the Single Service Institute, a trade association. He also served as President of the New York Society of Trade Association Executives and Chairman of the trade association division of the National Association of Manufacturers. He was an Eagle Scout and served as a Boy Scout leader, and was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsboro. Mr. Foster spent four years of Naval Service in World War II, half of the time in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve as a Lt. Commander on September 1, 1955.
A memorial service to celebrate his life is to be held Thursday May 25, 2006 at 3 p.m. in St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Pittsboro.

JOYCE JOHNSON TERRY
Joyce Johnson Terry, formerly of Siler City, died May 18, 2006, after a brave battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Terry, a native of Siler City.
Surviving is one daughter, Janet White; grandchildren, Jennifer White, Patti Yawn and husband, David of Raleigh, Joshua Huttle of New York City; one sister, JoAnne Andrews and husband, Ike Andrews of Galloway Ridge, Pittsboro.
ADAM SMITH
Adam Smith, 66, of 623 Logan Lane, Liberty died Friday, May 19, 2006 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Oakley Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Sandifer, Rev. Greg Burris officiating. David Reeves presented the eulogy. Burial followed in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Siler City with military rites by the Randolph Honor Guard.
Mr. Smith was a native of Chatham County, a Navy veteran and a member of Oakley Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 35 years of service. He served as a Siler City Town Commissioners for 12 years, was a former member of Rocky River Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a former president of Silk Hope PTA and Treasurer of the Silk Hope Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard (Dick) Smith and Ella Hough Smith.The Adam Smith family extends their gracious gratitude to Dr. James Granfortuna and his team at the Wesley Long Cancer Center.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Quillen Smith of the home; daughters, Paige S. Butler and husband, Michael of Greensboro, Paula M. Reeves and husband, David of Siler City; sister, Joyce Stout of Siler City; grandsons, Caleb A. Reeves, Eli M. Butler, and Joshua Adam Butler.

DIANA LEE FILLEBROWN FARR
Diana Lee Fillebrown Farr, 52 of Chapel Hill died Monday, (05-08-2006) at UNC Hospitals.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, (05-10-2006) at Bynum United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Winner, officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, April Williams of Siler City; son, Lance Beaudoin of Chapel Hill; mother, Audrey Johnson and step-father, Christopher Johnson of Grand Haven, Michigan; and three grandchildren.
BARBARA NORWOOD CLARK
Mrs. Barbara Norwood Clark, 67, of Durham, formerly of Pittsboro, died at her home, Thursday, (05-11-2006).
Services were conducted, by Rev. Jim Greenlee, Rev. Rex Brooks, and Dr. Johnny Ross, at 3 p.m., Sunday (05-14-2006) at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was a Chatham County native, a graduate of Pittsboro High School, and attended UNC-Greensboro. She worked at Bank of Chapel Hill, which later became NCNB, for 17 years.
Survivors include her daughters, Helen Clark of Durham, Janet Walker of Roxboro; parents, Max and Helen Norwood of Pittsboro; sisters, Ruth Norwood Meeks of Sanford, Maxine M. Norwood of Durham; two grandsons.
Memorials may be given to either the church or a charity of one's choice.
HELEN KLEVEN
Miss Helen Kleven, 90 of Pittsboro died Sunday, (05-14-2006), at Pittsboro Christian Village.
A private interment was held at Chatham Memorial Park, and a memorial service will be held at a later date in the worship center at Pittsboro Christian Village.
A native of LaGrange Park, Il., Miss Kleven was a retired rate clerk from the stockyards in the Chicago area.
There are no immediate survivors.
ETHEL BOONE STROWD
Ethel Boone Strowd, 88, of Pittsboro died Saturday, (05-13-2006) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (05-17-2006) at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Edwards officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Strowd was a life-long resident of Chatham County, a retired homemaker, and a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Ellen Sharpe of Baltimore, Md.; son, Jimmy Strowd of Mt. Pleasant; sisters, Helen Norwood of Pittsboro, Annie Mathes of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Ernest Boone of Burlington, George Goone of Kansas City, Ks.; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Chatham County or to East Chatham Rescue Squad in Pittsboro.
MILDRED CURTIS SCOTT
Mrs. Mildred Curtis Scott of 2267 Ed Clapp Rd., Siler City, left her earthly home on Friday, May 12, 2006.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 15, at 2 p.m. at Piney Grove United Methodist Church in Siler City, where she was an active member until her health began to decline. Burial was in the church cemetery.
She was the oldest daughter of Jack and Mattie Wicker Curtis, born on August 22, 1918. Mildred was a native of Liberty, and graduated from Liberty High School on May 5, 1935.
She served her country with honor and pride after enlisting in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp. on February 14, 1943. She had her basic training at Daytona Beach, Florida. After Military Police training, she was transferred to the Boston Port of Embarkation, Boston, Mass. While stationed in Boston, she was selected as soldier of the Month. She received a $50.00 War Bond, a framed certificate and a three day pass. After VE Day in Europe, she was assigned to the Seattle Port of Embarkation, Seattle, Washington as a clerk in the Intelligence division. After the war was over she was discharged on February 22, 1946 at Fort Bragg, as a T/Sgt. Mildred attended Kings Business College in 1946 and married Claude A. Scott of Siler City, who preceded her in death in 1994 after 47 years of marriage.
She is survived by a son, Ronald C. Scott of Siler City; two daughters, Ms. Cynthia S. Brown of Siler City, and Sarah S. DeLuca and husband Joseph of McLeansville; six grandchildren, Kelly Daniel Elkins, Erik Brown, Blake Brown, Klaudia Brown, Brittany Scott and Ronald C. Scott II; one great-grandchild, Tristin Elkins; two sisters, Mrs. Winifred C. Humble of Liberty, and Mrs. Ruth C. Butler of Burlington; one niece, Annette Clarke; and one nephew, Harold Humble. These along with many cousins and friends will miss her very much.

RUTH LOUISE WILKIE BROWN
Ruth Louise Wilkie Brown, 78, of 2055 Siler City-Glendon Road, Siler City died Friday, May 12, 2006 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2006 with Rev. Brian Sandifer and Rev. J. R. Bouldin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Goldston High School, a retired homemaker and a member of Oakley Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Howard Brown, her parents, Charlie and Nettie Gerry Wilkie, three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Brown Pyrtle of Siler City; sons, Dwight H. Brown and wife, Brenda of Bear Creek, C. Michael Brown and wife, Kay of Siler City, Benjamin H. Brown, Jr. of Siler City: grandchildren, Christie B. Pike, Brandi B. Pugh, Wesley Brown, Hannah Brown, Matthew Pyrtle, Michelle Pyrtle, Lindsey Pyrtle, Alanna Pyrtle, Bethany Pyrtle; great-grandchildren, Jessica Pike, Caitlin Pike, Makayla Pugh, Skylar Pugh; sister, Mozelle W. Steele of Stokesdale; brothers, Lacy Wilkie, and Billy Wilkie, both of Siler City.
