FLOSSIE MOZELLE ALSTON
Flossie Mozelle Alston, 84, of Siler City, died Tuesday, (07-04-2006) at Universal health Care of Ramseur.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (07-08-2006) at Evans Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Alston was a native of Chatham County, a member of Evans Chapel Church where she was a deaconess, steward, leader of leaders, class leader, member of the senior choir, missionary department, Sunday school, and president of the stewardess board. She was also a member of Friendship Chapter #521, Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include daughters, Ella Martin, Betty Bowden, Georgia Lee, Alphia Creek, all of Siler City; six grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
JEWEL COTTON SEEGERS "GRANNY"
Mrs. Jewel Cotton "Granny" Seegers, 91, of Charlotte, died Monday, (07-03-07) at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (07-08-2006) at Sharon Memorial Park with Rev. Fleet Kirkpatrick and Rev. Albert Johnston officiating.
Mrs. Seegers was born in Merry Oaks, was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church and was currently a member of Northside Baptist Church. She had served as an organist at Maranatha Baptist Church.
Survivors include two children, Judith B. Strode, John R. Seegers, both of Charlotte; brothers, Roland W. Cotton of Chesapeake, Va., John Russell Cotton of West palm Beach, Florida; and a granddaughter.

PEARL SCHILLER WRIGHT
Mrs. Pearl Schiller Wright, 88, of Pittsboro died Wednesday (07-05-2006) at The Laurels of Chatham.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, (07-11-2006) at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. John Singletary officiating. Interment will be held in the Payson Pioneer Cemetery in Payson, Arizona.
Mrs. Wright was a native of Wallington, N.J. She was raised and schooled in the Philadelphia, Pa. area. She worked as a bank teller. After settling in Pittsboro, she organized and served in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees chapter in Chatham County. She was also a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Howard J. Tomlinson, III of Pittsboro, Michael James Wright of Raleigh; step-daughter, Linda Woodward of Payson, Az.; two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

ROBERT WILEY ARRANT
Mr. Robert Wiley Arrant, 78, of Siler City died Thursday, (07-06-2006) at his resident.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (07-09-2006) at the Siler City Church of God with Rev. Neal Kight and Rev. Reid Hughes officiating.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, (07-11-2006) at Prentiss Church of God in Franklin, with Rev. Don Moffitt, Rev. Neal Kight, and Rev. Steve Reeves officiating. Burial followed in Rush Cemetery in Otto.
Mr. Arrant was a native of Franklin, retired heavy equipment operator, a U.S. air Force veteran and a member of the Siler City Church of God.
Survivors include daughters Ann Byrd of Punta Gorda, FL., Cathy Phillips of Perry, GA., Pat Staley of Pittsboro; sons, Ruby Lujan of Sylva, Robert Arrant of Franklin; brother, Kenneth Arrant of Siler City; sister, Frances Womack of Chattanooga, TN., and twelve grandchildren.
BOBBY WAYNE CALLAHAN
Bobby Wayne Callahan, 69, of Robbins died Sunday, (07-09-2006) at SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (07-12-2006) at Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. John Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in the Acorn Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Callahan was a native of Moore County, and a former supervisor at Proctor-Silex with 35 years service.
Survivors include sisters, Peggy C. Kivett of Ramseur, Frances C. Lednum, and Faye C. Snyder, both of Asheboro.

NED BATTLE DIGGS, SR.
Ned Battle Diggs, Sr., 78, of Chapel Hill died Sunday (07-09-2006) at his residence.
Mr. Diggs was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in W.W. II, a former employee of the Chapel Hill Police Department, a former Animal Control Officer for Chatham County, and a lifetime farmer of Chatham County.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (07-12-2006) at Merritt’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard L. Farmer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Loreen Diggs; children, Charles Lewis Diggs II of Dallas, TX., Vicki Diggs Watkins of Durham, Ned Battle Diggs, Jr. of Greensboro; Frieda Hahn of CA., Penny McGee of Pittsboro, Robert Morris of Snow Camp, Charles Morris of CA.; brother, James Henry Diggs of Chapel Hill; sisters, Catherine Diggs Staunton, Edith Diggs Page, both of Chapel Hill; and seven grandchildren.

ELIZABETH "TOOKIE" LIGHT FERGUSON
Elizabeth "Tookie" Light Ferguson, 79, of Siler City died Sunday, (07-09-2006) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
Graveside services and burial were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, (07-12-2006) at Chatham Memorial Park in Siler City.
Mrs. Ferguson was a native of Chatham County and retired from Kellwood Company. She was a member of Piney Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include husband, Isaac Minter Ferguson, Jr. of Siler City; sons, Murphy Ferguson of Bear Creek, Jack Ferguson, Ike Ferguson, III, both of Siler City; sisters, Dixie L. Self of Harriman, TN., June Carol Kelly of Siler City, Sarah L. Pike of Richmond, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Mary Carter Fields, 83, of Wallace died Sunday, (07-09-2006) at Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, (07-11-2006) at Padgett Funeral Chapel in Wallace. Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (07-12-2006) at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Goldston.
FRED DOYLE LEMONS
Fred Doyle Lemons, 81, of Siler City died Monday, (07-10-2006).
Graveside services and burial were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (07-12-2006) at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating.
Mr. Lemons was a native of Chatham County, retired from Siler City Mills, and a member of Pleasant Hill U.M.C. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Dean Lemons of Siler City; sons, Johnny Lemons of Siler City, Donald Lemons of Staley; daughters, Carolyn L. Johnson of Pittsboro, Debbie L. Siler Of Siler City; twin brother, Hoyle Lemons of Siler City; brother, Wilson Lemons of Siler City; sister, Barbara L. Elmore of Siler City, Mozelle L. Clark of Burlington; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

ELMAR B. TYSOR TAYLOR
Elmar B. Tysor Taylor of Goldston died Wednesday, (06-07-2006) at her home.
Services were held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, (06-10-2006), at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Sanford, with Brother Nathaniel Rhames and Brother Donald Davidson, officiating.
Mrs. Taylor was born in Chatham County, and attended J.S. Waters School in Goldston.
Immediate survivors include sons, Calvin of Greensboro, James of Bear Creek, John of Goldston, Ronald of Sanford, Terry of Sanford; daughters, Shirley Bess and Scottie Rogers of Sanford, Evelyn Graham of Cameron, Yvonne Hanner of Bear Creek, Vickie Cheek of Goldston; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
JOSEPH KIRKMAN (KIRK) MINOR, SR.
Joseph Kirkman (Kirk) Minor, Sr., 82, of 722 Everette Street, Ahoskie died Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at Chatham Hospital.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2006 at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie.
Mr. Minor was a native of Guilford County, a former resident of Siler City, an Army veteran of WW II, and retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture after 33 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Perry Minor of the home; son, Jody Minor and partner, Scott Ford of Siler City; daughter, Missy M. Cherry and husband, Mike of Ahoskie; brothers, Fred Minor, Bart Minor, both of Greensboro; sister, Margaret Vaughn of Greensboro; granddaughters, Amanda Phillips, Hannah Cherry and great-granddaughter, Sheridan Phillips.
CHARLES STEPHEN SCOTT
Charles Stephen Scott, 68, of 906 Woodland Drive, Siler City died Friday, July 7, 2006 at his home.
Mr. Scott was a native of Chatham County and employed with Hickory Mountain Farms and Charles Craft. Charlie will be remembered on one who cherished his family and friends and was loved by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ann Thames Scott of the home; daughter, Tracey S. Thomas Siler City; mother, Madie Beal Scott of Siler City; sister, Betty Jean S. Pendergrass of High Point; and one grandson, Charles Alexander (Alex) Moody.
Memorial service was held Sunday, July 9, 2006 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home.

JAMES VICTOR MURCHISON
James Victor Murchison, 90, a Friends (Quaker) minister for over 67 years, died Sunday, July 2, 2006 at Friends Homes at Guilford.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at High Point Friends Meeting, where he was a member, on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. by ministers David Millikan, David Hobson, Billy Britt, and Leslie Winslow. Visitation will follow the service in the fellowship hall. Inurnment will be at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church cemetery, Liberty, NC.
Mr. Murchison was the third son of William David and Dora Pike Murchison of Liberty, NC.
He received his formal education at Sylvan High School and Elon College, with post graduate study at High Point College and Emory University Divinity School.
He was recorded (ordained) as a Friends minister by the Western Quarterly Meeting of North Carolina Yearly Meeting in 1938.
He began a dual career as teacher at the Providence High School of Climax, NC and as pastoral minister at the Science Hill and Bethel Friends Meetings in Randolph County and Chatham and Spring Friends Meetings, Snow Camp, NC. Following his service as associate pastor of the Suffolk, Virginia Christian Church, he continued his effective and inspiring pastoral ministry for twenty-two years at the Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. This was followed by three years as the Executive Secretary of the North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends. He continued his caring pastoral ministry with the Friends Meetings of New Hope in Goldsboro, NC, Asheboro, Forsyth in Winston-Salem, and High Point.
His preaching ministry was complemented by his singing ministry and his service through the Quaker Men’s organization.
He was an active member of the Exchange Club.
He and his wife of 59 years, Marian Kirkman Murchison, have lived at Friends Homes at Guilford, New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC since 2000.
Survivors include his devoted wife Marian, a sister Josephine M. Painter and husband James Painter; sister-in-law Mary Kirkman Routh and husband Charles Routh; several nieces and nephews, and special friend, David Millikan of Archdale, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Glenn and Samuel Murchison.
