MILDRED McLEMORE CHAMBERS

Mildred McLemore Chambers, 82, of Siler city died Thursday, (07-13-2006) at her home.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (07-15-2006) at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Gyles Saunders officiating.

Mrs. Chambers was a native of Virginia.

Survivors include sons, Timothy Edward Chambers of Norfolk, VA, Mark Anthony Chambers of the home; daughters, Josephine Lester of Siler City, Shelby Strope of Princeton, WV; brothers, Robert McLemore of Wytheville, VA, Dennis McLemore of Tazewell, VA; sisters, Phyllis M. Skeens of Lansing, MI, Nina M. Mitchem of Iaeger, WV; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

RAYFORD RAYMOND ALSTON

Rayford Raymond Alston of Washington, D.C. died Saturday, (07-15-2006).

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Mr. Alston was a native of Pittsboro.

Survivors include his wife, Peral Alston of the home; daughters, Demita Calloway, Donna Ford, Rafetta Alston, all of Maryland, Pamela Holman of Chapel Hill; sons, Shown Alston of Concord, Darrel Alston of Washington, D.C.; sisters, Patricia Marsh, Linda Alston Scurlock, both of Pittsboro; and brother, James Earl Alston of Siler City.

CHARLES FRANKLIN "CHUCK" GLOSSON

Charles Franklin "Chuck" Glosson, 33, of Pittsboro, died as a result of an accident, Saturday morning, (07-15-2006) at Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, (07-18-2006) at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Shelby Stephens officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Alamance County, he was co-owner of Glosson Farms, a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he was a deacon, pianist, and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the board of directors of the Chatham County Farm Bureau and on the Advisory Council for Agriculture in Chatham County.

Survivors include his wife, Dorlos Guthrie "Dee" Glosson; sons, Coley James Glosson, Thomas Luke Glosson, all of the home; parents, John S. and Anne Beaver Glosson of Pittsboro; sisters, Mrs. Donna Glosson Rezen of Augusta, GA., Mrs. Darlene Glosson Marsh of Holly Springs, and Ms. Dawn Glosson of Merritt Island, FL.

The family received friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening and other times at the residence of the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Glosson.

Memorials may be made to the Education Trust for Coley James and Thomas Luke Glosson, 9435 N. NC87, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

DONALD "DON" WRENN OLDHAM

Donald "Don" Wrenn Oldham, 65, of Goldston died Saturday, (07-15-2006) at U.N.C. Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, (07-18-2006) at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery in Gulf, with Rev. Del Parkerson officiating.

Mr. Oldham was a native of Chatham County and a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was a retired welder with General Timber of Gulf.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Oldham of Sanford; daughter, Brandy Wrenn Oldham of Bear Creek; brothers, Douglas Oldham of Goldston, Earl Oldham of Bear Creek, Bill Oldham of Tramway; sisters, Mable O. Cole of Birmingham, AL, Joyce O. Martin of Bonlee, Evon O. Gilliam of Sanford; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 503 Alton King Road, Gulf, N.C. 27256.

RUBY ROSSER WELCH

Mrs. Ruby Hazel Rosser Welch, 82, of Bear Creek died Monday, (07-17-2006) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, (07-20-2006) at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Tyson, Rev. Ira Smith, and Rev. Holly Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Welch was born in Chatham County, and a graduate of Goldston High School. She helped raise funds to begin the Cumnock Fire Department, and was a CNA at Keller’s, Oak Haven Rest Home in Sanford for 36 years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Leonard Gunter Sunday school class, and the Young at Heart Club.

Survivors include a son, Lee Welch of Bear Creek; daughters, Jane Terrell of Bear Creek, Debby Brafford of Sanford; half-brother, Robert Willigman of Bear Creek; four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held Wednesday, (07-19-2006) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Griffin funeral service and Cremation in Pittsboro. The family was at Mrs. Welch’s residence at other times.

Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church in Sanford.

JERRY W. PICKARD

Jerry W. Pickard, 71 of Asheboro died peacefully Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at Beacon Place in Greensboro. Jerry was born on July 28, 1934, the son of Carl and Sallie (Lowe) Pickard.

Jerry was raised in Siler City and was a stellar athlete playing baseball and football. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball in Asheboro for many years and was a true-blue Duke fan. Jerry proudly served in the armed forces in the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 45 of Asheboro. He attended Pfeiffer College and before his retirement worked for Everready Battery Company for 33 years, where he had many special friends.

Jerry’s unyielding faith during his sudden illness, comforted and inspired his family and friends. He continued to bless every new day that the Lord gave him, and to share his wisdom, love, and wonderful life stories. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and endearing friend, Jerry was a kind and patient man who shared his love and faith gererously, and uncon-ditionally.

He is survived by his wife Thelma Ann Holt Pickard of the home; best friend, son and his wife, Mark and Missy Pickard and grandchildren, Mallory and Chase of Raleigh; step-daughters and their husbands, Gloria and Joe Terry of Asheboro, Brenda and Donnie Brady of Jamestown and their families; sisters, Ruby Blair, Frances Robbins, Cloyce Poe, all of Siler City, Aliene Lambert of Charleston, S.C.; brother and his wife, Jack and Josie Pickard of Bonlee; and eight special nieces whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Howard, Doug, and Butch Pickard and a sister, Edith Moore.

Jerry’s family would like to thank all of the wonderful staff and volunteers at Beacon Place for their special care, support, and hospitality.

Memorials may be made in Jerry’s name to Beacon Place, 2502 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

ALETA BROOKS TALLEY

Aleta Brooks Talley, 90, of 125 Merritt Brooks Road, Bear Creek died Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the home of her niece, Judy Scott, following 18 months of failing health.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 14, 2006, at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. David Hicks, Rev. Michael Fulp, and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Talley was a native of Chatham County and retired from Kellwood in Siler City. She was a very active member of Bear Creek Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for the youth, member of the Women’s Missionary Society, Floral Committee, Sandy Branch Association attendee, church choir and tape ministry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe J. Talley and brother, Ray Brooks.

Survivors include a sister, Ella Brooks Stinson of Bear Creek and nieces and nephews.

LEON D. HUSSEY

Leon Davis Hussey, 68, of Ramseur, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 17, 2006 at Ramseur Wesleyan Church with Rev. Tommy Smith and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hussey was a Chatham county native, a 1955 graduate of Bennett High School, retired from E.T.I., Inc. and faithfully attended Ramseur Wesleyan Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Crawford and Alma Hussey; sisters, Isabelle Brady, Rachel Caviness; brothers, Bill and Jerry Hussey. Leon enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Leon leaves behind treasured memories and a legacy of kindness and love.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Andrews Hussey of the home; son, Mark R. Hussey and wife, Nicole of Cary; daughter, Terrie Hussey Litzenberger and husband Harold of Cary; brothers, Dwight Hussey of Bennett, Harold Hussey of Robbins; sisters, Linda Camp, Charlotte, Joann Chilton, Bennett, Matilda Cockman, Lauder Hills, Fl.; and grandchildren, Hannah, Davis, Allison, and Logan.

The family received friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Sunday evening at the Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur, other times at the residence.

THOMAS CARNELL ALSTON

Thomas Carnell Alston, 16, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (06-26-2006) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, (06-29-2006) at Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Shoron Martin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Alston was born in Chatham County, attended Horton Middle School, and was a member of Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

Survivors include father, Thomas E. Alston; mother, Jennifer Alston; sisters, Crystal Larkin of Harnett Co, Decie and Leighia Alston of the home.

DARRELL LESHAWN CRUMP

Darrell Leshawm Crump, 17, of Moncure died Monday, (06-26-2006).

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, (07-01-2006) at Northwood High School in Pittsboro with Rev. Zenahia Crump officiating. Burial followed at Christ Church of Deliverance in Sanford.

Mr. Crump was a member of Christ Church of Deliverance, the Z.C. Youth Ensemble, and Praisezetts Dance Team. He was a 2006 graduate of Northwood High School.

Survivors include his parents, Dywanne and Sharon Crump; brothers, Courtland and Michael Crump; grandmothers, Shirley Crump, Marion Williams, and Linda Thomas.

W. C. "SKIP" HUDSON

Mr. W. C. "Skip" Hudson, 61, of Pittsboro died at his home on Friday, (06-30-2006).

A private celebration of his life was held on Monday, (07-03-2006) at the Hudson residence.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; sons, Eric of Park City, Utah, Randy of Nantucket, MA.; sister, Katie Wood of Pittsboro; and mother, Dodie Nelson, and step-father, John Wood of Wolcott, Vt.; and three grandchildren.

JESSIE LEE CHAVIS BREWER

Jessie Lee Chavis Brewer, 90, of Siler City died Thursday, (06-29-2006) at Chatham Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, (07-02-2006) at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Brewer was a native of Chatham County, a member of Lambert Chapel Church and a retired employee of Brian Center in Siler City.

Survivors include daughters, Helen Siler of Asheboro, Shirley Clark of the home; sons, Joe C. Siler, Sterling Brewer, both of Siler City; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

ELBERT KEATH SMITH

Mr. Elbert Keath Smith, 57, of Little Rock, Arkansas died Sunday, (07-02-2006) in the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock.

Funeral services were held Friday, (07-07-2006) at Royal-Hall funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sherrill Boykin officiating. Burial followed in the Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Sampson County, and a carpenter.

Survivors include brother, Kenneth Ray Smith of Little Rock, Ark., Claybert Delano Lewis of Bear Creek; and a sister, Jo Nell Gann of Little Rock, Ark.
