MRS. DAISY BROOKS PRICE

Mrs. Daisy Brooks Price of 606 Siler Street, Siler City, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at Moses H. Cone Hospital.

Born in Chatham County, she was the daughter of Mr. Edgar H. Brooks and Mrs. Lizzie Harris Brooks, both deceased. Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Sylvester Price, son, Wallace Edward Price, and brother, George Brooks.

She was a member of Mitchell's Chapel AME Zion Church. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 27, 2006, at Gee's Grove AME Zion Church, Siler City. Presiding Elder Franklin Rush and the church pastor, Rev. Allen Moore officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Judy Price-Sessoms and her husband, Arnold R. Sessoms of Jamestown; two sons, John Terry (Venna) Price and Bobby Sylvester (Sandra) Price, both of Siler City; three sisters, Mrs. Patty L. Richardson, Mrs. Maggie Lake and Mrs. Bernice Perry, all of Pittsboro, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives.

WILLIAM (BILL) FORREST LADD

William (Bill) Forrest Ladd, of Siler City died Thursday (08-17-2006) at his home.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, (08-20-2006) at Loves Creek Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Bob Boyd and Rev. Neal Kight officiating. Burial with military honors will follow.

Mr. Ladd was a WWII and Korean War Veteran, a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Division. He was recipient of the Master Parachutist Badge, and Marksman (Carbine), Sharpshooter Badge (rifle).He was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, VFW Post 7313 life member, DAV life member of Sanford #5, and a 50 year -mason, lodge #181 of Carthage.

Survivors include his wife, Lynda Webster Ladd of the home; sons, William N. Ladd, Jr. of Fayetteville, Richard Golden of Siler City; daughters, Shae Rye of Clarksville, TN, Ladena Roberson of Lenexa, KS, Recketta Henrick of Indian Mound, TN, Zoann Tichenor of Owensboro, KY; sisters, Lois Chandler of Henderson, KY, Geri Vick of Evansville, IN; fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Maintenance Fund, 14680 Hwy. 64 West, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

CHARLIE BURKE THOMAS

Charlie Burke Thomas, 95, of Siler City died Friday (08-18-2006) at SunBridge Care Facilities.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday (08-21-2006) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial followed at Rives Chapel Baptist Cemetery, Siler City.

Mr. Thomas was a native of Chatham County, a member of the First Baptist Church, and was a farmer. He had worked for Gilmore Farms and Gilmore Plant and Bulb, was a member of Chatham County Cattleman’s Association and the Sedgefield Hunt.

Surviving are his sisters, Alice Thomas Harris of Raleigh and Thedie Thomas Campbell of Evanston, Illinois.

Memorials may be made to Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 4338 Rives Chapel Church Road, Siler City, N.C. 27344.

WILLARD “MIKE” MICHAEL SCOTT

Willard “Mike” Michael Scott, 63, of Siler City died Saturday (08-19-2006) at his home.

Memorial services were held during visitation on Wednesday evening (08-23-2006) at Hanes-Lineberry, Van-story Chapel.

A native of Guilford County, Mr. Scott graduated from Ragsdale High School. He retired from Southern Paint Company after 14 years.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy Creed Scott of the home; mother, Lucille Nall of Greensboro; daughters, Michelle Isley of Belews Creek, Lynn Greeson of Julian, Melinda May of Morehead City, Kim Greeson of Liberty; sons, Mike Scott, Jr. of McLeansville, Shannon Scott of Julian, Shea Kendrick of Archdale, Brad Kendrick of Greensboro, and Brandon Scott of the home; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the family c/o Cindy Scott, 5625 Piney Grove Church Road, Siler City, NC 27344; or to Hospice of Chatham County.

LEROY ARLIE SELF

Leroy Arlie Self, 80, of 1620 Clark-Self Road, Pittsboro, died Thursday, August 17, 2006, in UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

He was a native of Chatham County, a veteran of the US Army during World War II and a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church. Mr. Self was Postmaster of Pittsboro Post Office for many years.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph C. and Lucy Elmore Self, a daughter, Pamela Ann Self and a sister, Luta White.

Graveside services were held at 2 pm Sunday in Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Jim Murphy, Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Steve Moore.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Clark Self; a son, Martyne Self and wife Leslie of Pittsboro; two brothers, Dwight Self and wife Mary of Siler City, Ralph Self and wife Joann of Raleigh; two grandchildren, Ryan Self and wife Sara, and Leslie Lind.

BETTE EASTON MERCER GILMORE

Bette Easton Mercer Gilmore, 87, of 706 South Second Avenue, Siler City died Wednesday, August 16, 2006, at the Rehabilitation and HealthCare Center of Alamance in Graham.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church, Siler City, with Rev. Travis Owen officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Born March 26, 1919, Elizabeth Easton Mercer Gilmore was the daughter of the late Heber Farley and Janet Easton Mercer. Born in New York City, lived in Siler City, and most recently at 1151 Challenge Drive, Graham, NC 27253. She died at Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Alamance. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn Gilmore, Sr., and an infant son.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Gilmore Justice of Graham; a son, Robert Glenn (Bobby) Gilmore, Jr. of Chapel Hill; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

LONNIE L. SANDERS

Lonnie L. Sanders, 67, died August 13, 2006 after many years of declining health.

After graduating from Massey Hill High School in Fayetteville, Lonnie enjoyed a successful career as a U.S. Navy SEAL. He spent 12 years defending the country he deeply loved and felt honored to serve. After being medically discharged from the Navy, he entered law enforcement where he passionately served for 22 years before medical retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and their precious gift from God, their son, Brandyn.

Per his request, following a private memorial service, his remains will be taken to Norfolk, Virginia, where the U.S. Navy will conduct a burial at sea.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 332 N. Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.

STANLEY TRAVIS CHAMBERS

Stanley Travis “Stan” Chambers, 69, of Goldston, died Wednesday, (08-09-2006) at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Merritt’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Richard Farmer officiating.

Mr. Chambers was born in the New Hope community of Chatham County. He retired from Advance Security Company in Raleigh.

Survivors include his wife, Gayle Evans Chambers; son, Travis; daughters, Melissa, Debra, Sheila, Tammy, Cindy, Lisa, Teresa; brothers, Tony Chambers of Durham, Leonard Chambers of TN, Edgar Chambers of Shallotte; and two sisters, Lyla McGee of Chapel Hill and Faye Stafford of Clinton.

Memorials may be made to Community Homecare and Hospice, 1414 E. Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

DEVON JEAN ANDREWS

Mr. Devon Jean Andrews, 24, of Lawndale Drive, Greensboro, formerly of Pittsboro, died Sunday, (08-13-2006).

Memorial service plans will be announced at a later date.

Arrangements are under the care of Griffin funeral service and Cremation in Pittsboro.

DR. KIRK BUDD, JR.

Dr. Joel Kirk Budd, Jr., 41, of Morehead City, died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Budd was a graduate of N.C. State's College of Veterinary Medicine. He was born and raised in Sanford, but had brought his family to Morehead City twelve years ago. He was the owner of Arendell Animal Hospital.

A gathering of friends and family was held Wednesday, August 9 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Budd; two sons, Joel Kirk Budd, III (Trey), and Perry Stone Budd, all of the home; parents, Joel and Judy Perry Budd of Wrightsville Beach; and a brother, Taylor Budd of Pittsboro.

Dr. Budd was the grandson of the late Nancy G. Perry of Siler City and the late Stacy and Clara Budd of Sanford.

LLOYD NOOE

Mr. Lloyd Nooe, 93, of Fuquay Varina, formerly of Pittsboro, died Tuesday, (07-11-2006) in Fuquay Varina.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, (07-15-2006) at Pittsboro Presbyterian Church with Rev. Troy Lesher-Thomas officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Nooe was a native of Pittsboro and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked for the N.C. Employment Security Commission for over 30 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge #500.

Surviving is a son, Lloyd Nooe, Jr. of Four Oaks.

HENRY EARL WHITE

Mr. Henry Earl White, 53 of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (07-11-2006) at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ with Rev. Ray Gooch and Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. White was a native of Chatham County, a member of Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ in Pittsboro, and was retired from the Chatham County school system.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cotten White; sisters, Susan White of Siler City, and Diane White Winstead of Durham.

Memorials may be directed to either Community Hospice, 1414 East 11th Street, Siler City, N.C. 27344; or to Hanks Chapel United Church of Christ Building Fund, 190 Hanks Loop Road, Pittsboro, N.C. 27312.

DARRLE JERON HARRIS

Darrle Jeron Harris, 38, of Siler City died Monday, (07-03-2006) at U.N.C. Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (07-08-2006) at Alston Chapel United Holy Church in Pittsboro, with Bishop William Goins, officiating. Burial followed at Unity Powerhouse Cemetery in Siler City.

Mr. Harris was born in Chatham County.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly C. Spinks; daughters, Kaneesha Harris, Dacia Harris, of the home, Dandra Alston of Sanford; father, James Harris; mother, Erma Farrington of Pittsboro; sister, Carolyn R. Boone of Pittsboro, Chelsey Mason of Siler City; step-sister, Wendy Alston of Pittsboro, and step-brother, Anthony Alston of Chapel Hill.
