WILLIAM JENKINS VonCANNON, SR.
William Jenkins VonCannon, Sr., 83, of Siler City died Saturday, (09-16-2006) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, (09-20-2006), at Chatham Memorial Park with Rev. Travis Owen and Rev. Mike Sykes.
Mr. VonCannon was a native of Montgomery County and a retired house painter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines.
Survivors include sons, William J. (Billy) VonCannon, Jr. of Siler City, Tommy VonCannon of Clearwater, FL., Greg VonCannon of Talbott, TN.; daughters, Anne VonCannon of Dunedin, FL., Linda V. Swartout of Clearwater, Fl., Jean V. Phillips of Bear Creek; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
GLADYS PAULINE LAWSON HAIRE
Gladys Pauline Lawson Haire, 75, of Cameron died Sunday, (09-17-2006) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, (09-21-2006) at Miller-Boles Funeral Home with Rev. Curtis R. Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Haire was a native of Surrey County, attended Calvary Missionary Methodist Church, and retired from Magneti Marelli Powertrain.
Survivors include sons, Roy Haire, Milton Haire, both of Tacome, WA., Nelson Haire of Siler City, Marshall Haire of Cameron; daughters, Irene H. Thomas, Brenda Haire, both of Sanford, Patricia Haire of Sanford, Patricia Haire of Greensboro; brothers, Herman Lawson, Lonnie Lawson, both of Sanford. Hilmer Lawson of Milwaukee, WI.; sisters, Lethia Jamerson, Frances Baker, both of Sanford; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family received friends on Wednesday (09-20-2006) from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford.
BOBBY HOWE GRANNIS, JR.
Bobby Howe Grannis, Jr., 47, of Pittsboro, died Monday, (09-18-2006) at his home.
Mr. Grannis was a former resident of Key West, FL.
Survivors include his wife, Robin Dycus Grannis of Pittsboro; and one brother, Darren Grannis of Roseland.

DANIEL HARRY HARRINGTON
Daniel Harry Harrington, 88, of Siler City died Monday, (09-18-2006) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Mr Harrington was a native of London, England, and had served in the British Royal Navy. He was a retired machinist.
Survivors include a daughter, Joan Harrington Marino of Siler City; sons, John Eric Harrington of Greensboro, Daniel Arthur Harrington of Butner; and one grandson.
Services for Mr. Harrington will be held at a later date.
LAWRENCE THOMAS “Shad” SHADRACH
Lawrence Thomas Shadrach, 83, of 217 N. 18th Street died Monday, September 18, 2006, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
A native of Chatham County, N.C., Mr. Shadrach was the son of the late James and Belle Shadrach. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sallie Ford MacNider Shadrach; his brother, James Meekins Shadrach; and his sister, Elizabeth Shadrach Woods.
He is survived by his devoted daughter, Elizabeth “Bess” MacNider Shadrach of the home; his niece Kaye Woods Fuller and husband Crawford; his nephew Robert Woods and wife Lillian; and his great nephews Dean and Keith Woods.
A veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II, Mr. Shadrach attended North Carolina State University on a football scholarship and graduated from Wake Forest University with degrees in mathematics and education. He was a teacher and coach of championship football teams in Windsor, N.C.
Mr. Shadrach was employed by Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee and Washington, D.C., for many years prior to moving to Wilmington to work for Hanover Distributing Co. He was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he served several terms on the Vestry.
A poet at heart, Mr. Shadrach treasured the written word and enjoyed reading great books and spending many hours in his flower and vegetable gardens. Volunteer interests included the Cape Fear Area United Way and the Cape Fear Literacy Council.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 21, at St. James Episcopal Church, 25 S. Third Street, Wilmington, N.C., conducted by The Rev. James L. Pahl Jr. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 22, at the Chapel Hill Cemetery, Chapel Hill, N.C.

BRUCE STEWART JR.
Mr. Bruce Stewart, Jr., 88, died Saturday, (09-02-2006).
Burial will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, (09-09-2006).
Mr. Stewart is survived by two sons, Bruce III, Willard; and one daughter Selene.
ROBERT “BOBBY” PURVIS
Mr. Robert “Bobby” Purvis of High Falls died Wednesday, (09-06-2006) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, (09-08-2006) at High Falls United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Buckingham officiating. A private burial followed in Purvis Family Cemetery.
Mr. Purvis was a native of Moore County, a WW II Army veteran. He had worked at Carthage Fabrics and was retired from Riverside Country Club. For 18 years, he was a Sing-Along Volunteer at St. Joseph of the Pines Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Upchurch Purvis of the home; daughters, Susan P. Tyson of Blowing Rock, Cindy R. Purvis of Durham, Sharron L. Purvis of Carthage; and three grandchildren.
NELLIE BARNHILL ANGE
Nellie Barnhill Ange, 88, of Ramseur died Friday, (09-08-2006) at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, (09-11-2006) at Landmark Baptist Church with Rev. Frank Barrett officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro.
Mrs. Ange was a native of Dillon S.C., retired from Jockey International, and a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Johnny Ange of Cedar Falls, Thomas Ange of Hickory; daughters, Wanda Cooke of Ramseur, Geraldine Bray of Sophia; seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
RAYMOND FRANCIS “RAY” O’BRIEN, JR.
Raymond Francis “Ray” O’Brien, Jr., 56, of Siler City died Sunday, (09-10-2006) at his residence.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (09-16-2006) at Rocky River Baptist Church and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. O’Brien was a native of Queens, N.Y. and attended Grace Church in Chapel Hill. He was owner/operator of Cross Road Vending Company.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Teague O’Brien of Siler City; daughter, Kari O’Brien Baumann of Randleman; son, Joseph Michael O’Brien of Siler City; sisters, Margaret O’Brien Holder of Sanford, and Barbara O’Brien Wilson of High Point.
Visitation will be held after the memorial service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
MURIEL LOWE MOODY
Annie Muriel Lowe Moody, 73, of Stuarts Draft, Va., died Saturday, (09-09-2006) at the Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, (09-12-2006) at the Waynesboro Chapel of Reynolds funeral service with Pastor Don McClure officiating. Burial followed in Augusta Memorial Park.
She was a native of Siler City, a member of Shenandoah Heights Baptist Church and retired from the Deli Department from the former IGA of Waynesboro.
Survivors include daughters, Dawn Lawrence, Denise VanFossen, both of Waynesboro, Va., Rosie Beard of Stuarts Draft, Va.; sister, Dot Dunn of Lenoir City, Tenn.; and two granddaughters.
ARDELIA BROWER GOINS
Ardelia Brower Goins, 88, of Bennett, died Sunday, (09-10-2006) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation of Siler City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, (09-15-2006) at Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Goins was a native of Moore County, a member of Lambert chapel Baptist Church where she was a member of the Deaconess Board and Missionary Circle #1.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Shamberger, Stella Brown, Shirley Totten, Judy Headen; sons, James Goins, Larry Goins, all of Bennett; sisters, Nellie Ray of Raleigh, Margaret Allmond of Asheboro; brother, Lenzy Brower, Washington, D.C.; 29 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Lambert Chapel Church.
MARY ELIZABETH OVERMAN GOODWIN
Mary Elizabeth Overman Goodwin, 75 of Apex died Thursday, (08-31-2006) at her home.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Goodwin was a native of Portsmouth, VA., and a graduates of Woodrow Wilson High School. She was retired from the Federal Government.
Survivors include her husband, S.J. (Jack) Goodwin of Apex; daughter, Sheryl Dupont of Pittsboro; sons, Jack Brian Goodwin, Joel Dallas Goodwin of Apex; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Willie Clayton
Mr. Willie Clayton, 83, of 617 Delaware Avenue, Burlington died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 12:40 p.m.
A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Hazel Huff Clayton and the son of Archie Willie Clayton and Annie Frances Clayton, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from Clayton Heating and Air Conditioning.
Survivors include his daughter, Ms. Sue Handy of Graham; three sons, Mr. Tom Clayton and wife, Gail, Mr. Donald Clayton and Mr. Steve Clayton, all of Burlington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Davis and husband, Aubrey of Hurdle Mills and Mrs. Belle Moore and husband, Nelson of Mebane; and one brother, Mr. Pete Clayton and wife, Peggy of Roxboro.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad Clayton; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Walker and Mrs. Lorena McCullough; and one brother, Mr. James Clayton.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Garland Simmons. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence.
