NANCY ARTHURS GRIFFIN
Nancy Arthurs Griffin, 73, of Pittsboro died Sunday, (01-22-2012), at Cambridge Hills of Pittsboro.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, (01-26-2012), in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Ray Gooch. Burial will follow in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Chatham County, she was the daughter of G. Floyd and Vera Karriker Arthurs. Nancy began her career with First Federal Savings and Loan in Pittsboro and later retired from Raleigh Federal Savings after more than 20 years of service.

Surviving relatives include daughters, Darlene Flaherty of Asheville, Kathy Thompson of Pittsboro; sons, Daryl and Brian Griffin both of Pittsboro; sister, Libby Hoyle of Burlington; brother, William Ray Arthurs of Pittsboro; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service and at other times at the home of Brian Griffin, 283 L&W Lane, Pittsboro.

Memorials may be made to Ebenezer UMC, 724 Beaver Creek Rd., Apex, NC 27502.

CHARLIE ROBERT MOFFITT
Charlie Robert Moffitt, 82, of Greensboro died Sunday, (01-22-2012) at Beacon Place Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro.

The funeral will be Friday, (01-27-2012) at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in Chatham Memorial Park.

Mr. Moffitt was born in Randolph County on February 8, 1929, the son of Ernest and Dovie (Craven) Moffitt. He was a graduate of Siler City High School where he played football. He had been a driver for Roadway Express and a member of the West Market Street United Methodist Church in Greensboro. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Kerley Moffitt; his parents and brothers, Samuel and Haywood Moffitt.

Survivors include sons, Charlie R. Moffitt II of Stafford, VA, Richard A. Moffitt of Greensboro; daughters, Yvonne Ore of Burlington, Jennifer Moffitt of Pleasant Garden, Sylvia Ann “Sam” Moffitt of Greensboro; sisters, Clara Mae Lackey of Greensboro, Norva Fisher of Bear Creek; six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, (01-26-2012) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

PENNY LURAY WRIGHT
Penny Luray Wright, 46, of Siler City died Sunday, (01-22-2012) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A graveside service was held Wednesday, (01-25-2012) at 11 a.m. at South Fork Friends Meeting with Andrew Needham officiating. The family received friends at the church following the graveside service.

Ms. Wright was born July 16, 1965 in Chatham County the daughter of Joseph Moore Wright, Jr. and Brenda Tucker Wright. She was a graduate of Jordan Matthews High and a member of South Fork Friends Meeting. She had worked for National Pen, Inc. in Nashville, TN as a commercial artist, and in recent years she had been a child care provider. Penny was preceded in death by her father, Joseph M. Wright, her grandparents, Naomi Johnson, Joseph and Inez Wright.

Survivors include her mother, Brenda Tucker Wright; and grandfather, Nat Johnson of Staley.

Memorials may be made to South Fork Friends Meeting Cemetery Fund, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp, NC 27349.

BEN RAY MOODY
Ben Ray Moody, 87, a life-long resident of Siler City, died January 19, 2012, and was reunited with his loving wife of 54 years, the late Polly Darden Moody.
Mr. Moody was born July 24, 1924 in Western North Carolina, the son of the late Noah Ben and Elisa Roberts Moody. In a life devoted to helping others, he served his country as a World War II Navy Veteran and his community through his dedicated service as an Honorary Lifelong Member of the Siler City Lion’s Club, Masonic Lodge #403 and as an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Siler City.

He is survived by his daughter, Lucinda Rae Moody Chreitzberg, and son-in-law, Mike Chreitzberg of Lake Norman. He is also survived by a special nephew, Alan Lane of Florida and sister-in-law, Jean Lambert Darden of Clemmons, NC, along with several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Betty Moody Phillips, and a sister, Charlotte Moody Lane.

He was retired after over 30 years of service to Chatham Insurance & Realty. His years in the Navy sparked a lifelong love for airplanes. He loved dogs, especially his boxers, Ladybug and Cindy Lu, and cooking for the Methodist Men’s breakfasts at his church. Mr. Moody’s real passion, however, was helping others. He worked tirelessly to benefit the blind through the Lion’s Club, to help homebound members of his church, and would help anyone in his community who called on him, whatever the hour of the day or night.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1101 West Raleigh Street, Siler City, with the Rev. Clyde Denny and the Rev. Chan Shaver of Jamestown, a nephew by marriage.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P O Box 212, Siler City, NC 27344.

LOUISE SCOTT ALBRIGHT
Louise Scott Albright, 86, of 2520 Staley-Snow Camp Road, Siler City died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell in Burlington.

Mrs. Albright was born in Randolph County on June 5, 1925, the daughter of Fletcher Lee and Emma (Bray) Scott. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Louise was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Younger and a brother, Claude Scott.

She is survived by her husband, Francis “New Ground” Albright of Siler City; one son, Mitchell Lutterloh and wife, Judy of Graham; one brother, Jack Scott and wife, Mary of Siler City; grandsons, Justin Lutterloh and wife Holli of Mebane, Aaron Lutterloh and wife Jessica of Graham; great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Lutterloh; nieces, Linda Moody, Shirley Johnson, Tina Oldham, Sarah Deluca, Cynthia Brown and nephew, Ronald Scott.

The family received friends Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Keith Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery, Liberty.

VIRGINIA SHOE ROGERS GEORGE
Virginia Shoe Rogers George, 78, of 349 Southern High School Road, Lot 2, Graham passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 7:50 a.m. at the Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Burlington.

Mrs. George was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all. She loved flowers and enjoyed working in her garden. She was a member of Victory Chapel Wesleyan Church. A people person, she always said he had never met a stranger.

Survivors include daughters, Carolyn R. Poe and husband Larry of Siler City, Rita R. Williams and husband Eugene of Snow Camp, Kathy R. Younger and husband Randy of Graham, Rose R. Daniels and husband Chuck of Graham; son, Carson “Doc” Rogers, Jr. and wife Deborah of Graham; grandchildren, Candy Poe Thomas, Jenny Poe Lineberry, Larry Poe, Jr., Roger Williams, Tabitha F. Williams, Matthew Younger, Jonathan Younger, Brandi Rogers-Garner; great-grandchildren, Parker Poe, Jake Poe, Lilly Mae Poe, Jessica Thomas, Makayla Thomas, Trey Lineberry, Morgan Lineberry, Logan Younger; sisters, Marybelle Davis of Graham, Lula Rogers of Graham, Shirley Petty and husband JC of Graham; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Mr. George was preceded in death by her parents, William Harlen Shoe and Lilly Herron Shoe; husband, Jessie T. George; brothers, Winfred Shoe, Jim Shoe and Ross Shoe.

The funeral services were held Monday, January 23, 2012 at Victory Chapel Wesleyan Church with burial in Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Ray Brim officiating.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 22, 2012 at McClure Funeral Home in Graham. At other times, the family was at the home of the daughter Rose at 7116 Rogers Farm Lane, Graham.

JAMES ALLEN JORDAN
Pittsboro – James Allen Jordan, 82, of Siler City died on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro. His previous residences included a group home in Durham and Hill Forest Rest Home in Goldston.

James was born in Siler City on July 3, 1929 to Tom and Cara Wrenn Jordan of Siler City.

He is survived by his oldest brother, Rev. Robert Harry Jordan and wife Frances Weaver Jordan of Wilson, brother, Wrenn Jordan of Siler City; nephew, Thomas Mark Jordan of Durham; and niece, Charlotte Frances Jordan of Raleigh.

James was known for enjoying people, singing hymns, special friends and pets. He worked at the Orange Person Chatham workshop.

A committal graveside service will be held for family and friends on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the Siler City Oakwood Cemetery.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home is assisting the family.

HAZEL STANLEY BRADY
Hazel Stanley Brady made her heavenly flight Monday, January 16, 2012 at the age of 95.

She was the daughter of Rev. George and Ida Laura (Pickett) Stanley. Grandma Brady, as she was called by most, loved her flowers and was a seamstress of exceptional caliber. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, J. David Brady, her parents, thirteen brothers and sisters, three sons-in-law.

She is survived by three daughters, Rebecca B. “Becky” Brooks of Siler City, Carole B. Langley of Staley, Brenda B. Ward and husband, Paul of Siler City; and one son, Rev. Hank Brady and wife, Dianne of Sparta; grandchildren, Rhonda B. Wilkie and husband, Barry of Siler City, Alan Brooks and wife, Carole of Kernersville, Tahia Langley of Staley, Rev. Brad Gaines and wife, Cheryl of Greensboro, Chad Gaines of Siler City, Sandon Brady of Los Angeles, CA, Misty Brady of Fuquay-Varina; step-granddaughters, Jan Cheek and husband, Ronnie of Liberty, Sandy Coletta and husband, Ugo of Siler City; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Drew and Lance Wilkie, Bridgette, Skye and Monika Brooks; step-great-grandchildren, Jason Cheek, Lauren Brewer, Nathan and Michael Coletta; great-great-grandchildren, Olivia and Emma Wilkie and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Wednesday, January 18, 2012 following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. The funeral was held Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church, 17475 US 64 W, Siler City. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 1005 Carthage Street, Sanford, NC 27330 or to the scholarship fund at the Siler City Pentecostal Holiness Church.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Charlotte and Angela of Liberty Hospice and to Donna Matthews.

ETHEL MURRAY HICKS
Ethel Murray Hicks, 90, of Staley, died Wednesday, (01-04-2012) at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, (01-06-2012), at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with Rev. Todd Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hicks was a Randolph County native, retired from Burlington Industries, Liberty Chair, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Florence Pugh Murray, brother, Max Murray, and sisters, Blanche Thompson and Beulah Williams.

Survivors include her husband, June Brady Hicks of the home; daughter, Barbara H. Farrington of the home; son, Larry W. Hicks, Sr. of Staley, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

GOLDA KIMREY JOHNSON
Golda Kimrey Johnson, 85, of Ramseur, formerly of Siler City, died Wednesday, (01-04-2012) at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, (01-07-2012), at First Baptist Church of Siler City, with Rev. James Wall, officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

A native of Randolph County she retired from Siler City Hosiery and was a member of the ‘Joy in the Morning’ club. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Barrow Missions Group in Siler City. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edward Johnson, her parents, Fleming and Pearl Williams Kimrey, sisters, Areline Curtis and Ruhedell Gunter.

Survivors include sisters, Gertrude Kimrey, of Liberty, Marie Allred of Asheboro; and a brother, Vernon Kimrey, of Ramseur.

Memorials may be made to, First Baptist Church of Siler City, Barrow Mission Group, c/o Elma Kelly, 314 N 2nd Ave., Siler City, NC 27344.

JESSE FRANKLIN GLOSSON
Jesse Franklin Glosson died Saturday, (01-07-2012) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, (01-10-2012) at Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure.

Mr. Glosson was born in Chatham County to Spurgeon and Martha Harward Glosson on August 25, 1931.He was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure, and served in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Frankie Mae Campbell Glosson; children, Kenneth Triplett, Ronald Triplett, Timothy Glosson, Carol Paisley, Lynn Rich; sister, Callie Flinchum; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
