BRONNA CHEEK FIELDS
Mary Bronna Cheek Fields, 87, of Bear Creek died Thursday, (03-01-2012) at her home.
The funeral was held Monday, (03-05-2012) at 3 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Kirk Parrish and Rev. David Hicks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Fields was born in Chatham County on August 3, 1924, the daughter of John Wesley and Maude (Tally) Cheek. She was a homemaker and a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church where she served as custodian for more than twenty years. Bronna was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Jackson “Orb” Fields; and brother, Coy Cheek.
Survivors include daughters, Jane F. Owens of Goldston, Audrey F. Holt of Bear Creek; son, Eddie J. Fields of Bear Creek; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

HUBERT GRANVILLE OAKLEY, JR.
Chapel Hill – Hubert Oakley, 81, died at his home in northern Chatham County on Wednesday, (02-29-2012).
Funeral services were held Sunday, (03-03-2012) at Lystra Baptist Church at 3 p.m. with Reverends Virginia Taylor and Tim Williford presiding.
Mr. Oakley was born August 5, 1930 to Hubert, Sr. and Willie Jones Oakley. Hubert is survived by his wife, Marjorie Lunsford Oakley; children, Pam, Gary, Mike Oakley and two grandchildren.
Mr. Oakley attended the local Bell’s School and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from UNC and Memorial Hospital, and helped on the family farm, participating in the Carrboro Farmers Market since its inception. Hubert was a member of Lystra Baptist Church, American Legion Post 6 in Chapel Hill, and Columbus (Masonic) Lodge 102 in Pittsboro. He was a founding member of the North Chatham Volunteer Fire Department, and a dedicated member of Chatham County Democratic Party..

KAREN BURNETT KILBURN
Mrs. Karen Burnett Kilburn, 54, of Pittsboro died Sunday, (03-04-2012) at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, (03-09-2012) from Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. The graveside service of committal will be held at 10:30 Saturday morning in Buffalo Cemetery in Sanford.
Mrs. Kilburn attended Campbell University in Buies Creek, and was a legal assistant with Glaxo Smith Kline. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and step-son, Joshua Kilburn.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis F. Kilburn; daughter, Kristen Hinson of Raleigh; and a step-son, Jeremiah Kilburn of Pittsboro.
Friends may visit with the family from 7 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.
RUBY JOHNSON
Born on July 19, 1949 in Hamlet, N.C., Ruby Johnson has now gone to be with the Lord on February 29, 2012 at 12:15 p.m. She leaves behind a husband, Jessie Earl Johnson; two kids, Misty Thomas and Dwayn Johnson; one grandson, Dalton Thomas; her mom, Nettie Barnes; five sisters and five brothers.
Ruby always made life fun and she was always trying to take care of someone else. You never left Ruby’s house hungry and she would take in anyone to help them out. If she could throw a party for fun she would do it, she was always trying to get people together.
We love you Ruby we will never forget your smile or personality! We will see you one day in heaven.

HENRY LEE FIELDS
Henry Lee Fields, 93, of Siler City died Saturday, March 3, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was born November 18, 1918 in Siler City, the son of the late Dave and Bessie Fields. Henry was a World War II veteran and retired as a supervisor of Selig Manufacturing Company. He was a loving husband and father that also had a great love for gardening. He was a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church.
Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruby Martin Fields; sons Ray and Bobby Fields. He was born to a family with ten sisters and brothers that also preceded him in death.
Mr. Fields is survived by his son Lynn Fields and wife Erma of Ramseur; daughters, Becky and Denson Jones and Brenda and Jay McDaniel of Bennett; daughter-in-law Susan Fields of Asheboro; grandchildren, Robin Allen, Bill Fields, Tonya Dunlap, Sandy Fields, Jay McDaniel II, Christopher McDaniel and Lisa York.
The family received friends Monday March 5, 2012 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at Rives Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

MARIE SHELTON BRAY
Marie Shelton Bray, 100, of 187 Pine Forest Drive, Siler City died Sunday, March 4, 2012 at her residence.
Mrs. Bray was born May 16, 1911 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Charles Anderson and Sadie (Bush) Shelton. In 1936 she married Bun Benton Bray, Jr. and they enjoyed 59 years together. She owned and operated Marie’s School Of Dance. Marie led an active life that was full of many wonderful blessings. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Bray Hilton of Fredericksburg, VA, and Bonnie Bray Griffin of Atlantic Beach, NC; grandchildren, Amanda W. Thomasson of Fredericksburg, VA, Shannon L. Clapp of Siler City, Alison W. Diehl of Fort Rucker, AL, James Benton Gregory Williams of Fredericksburg, VA and six great-grandchildren.
The family received friends Tuesday, March 6, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City.
The funeral was held Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Avenue, Siler City with Rev. Tony Capehart officiating. A private family committal service followed.

GARY ALLEN FIELDS (CMPD-retired)
Mr. Fields, 61, of Charlotte passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at his home. Gary, the son of the late Richard W. Fields and Nina Elaine Gaines Fields was born in Chatham County, North Carolina on August 14, 1950. He served with the US Army during the Vietnam War and earned the Bronze Star as well as several other medals and commendations.
Mr. Fields started his career in law enforcement as a game warden for the North Carolina Wildlife Enforcement Agency. He moved to Charlotte in 1975 and joined the Mecklenburg County Police. Following the merger of the county and city police departments, Gary served in several positions before becoming a homicide detective. He retired in 2002 after 30 years of service.
Surviving family members include his wife, Patricia Brady Fields; sons, Aaron (Tracy) Fields of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Jason (Cassandra) Fields of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; sisters, Kay (Dennis) Willett of Bonlee, North Carolina and Margaret Barth of Siler City, North Carolina. Gary is also survived by his four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
SHULAR F. DAVIS
Burlington – Mrs. Shular F. Davis, 86, of 401 Harden Street, Burlington died at Ashton Place Health and Rehabilitation, McLeansville on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at 12 noon.
A native of Orange County, she was the daughter of Herman L. Farrell and Pauline Ray Farrell, both deceased. She retired from Duncan and Floyd, C.P.A. in Surfside Beach, SC. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of the ABWA. Mrs. Davis was the founder of TOPS, Chapter 53.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Cindy D. Thompson and husband Jeff of Haw River, Mrs. Lisa D. Jenkins and husband Johnny of Elon; two sons, Mr. Jimmie W. Davis, Sr. (Tillie) and daughter-in-law Faye Davis, all of Burlington, Mr. Jack M. Davis, Sr. and wife Barbara, of Goldsboro; former husband, Percy J. Davis, Jr.; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Von Davis.
The funeral service will be conducted at Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Ernest Beck. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
The family received friends at Rich & Thompson Funeral Home and Crematory in Graham on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Other times they will be at the residence of a daughter, Cindy Thompson, 3473 Phillips Chapel Road, Haw River.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Staff at Ashton Place and Hospice for the kind and loving care shown to their mother.
JUANITA HUNT SMITH
Juanita Hunt Smith passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. She was born August 23, 1949.
A memorial service was held at Hospice of Asheboro by friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Hunt, in-laws, Harvey and Fleda Smith, and father, Nathan Hunt.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Smith of Justice Drive, Siler City; brother, Larry Hunt of Burlington; children, Tina Smith, Michael Smith of the home, Tony Hunt of Asheboro, Tammy Macon of Bennett; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Asheboro.
ALICE SCOTT BROWN
Alice Scott Brown, 86, of Bennett, died Saturday, (02-25-2012) at her home.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, (02-28-2012) at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Strider officiating.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Randolph County, retired from Weiman Furniture Mfg. in Ramseur, and a member of the Mt Zion United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin F. and Naomi Moore Scott, husband, Paul James Brown, son, Wayne Brown and brothers and sisters.
Survivors include daughter, Patsey Sanders of Seagrove, Nancy Noyes of Siler City; son, Donald Brown of Bennett; brother, Graham Scott of Seagrove; three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

CLARA L. BROOKS
Mrs. Clara L. Brooks, 65, of Cameron died Sunday (02-26-2012) at Hospice House in Pinehurst.
Memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (02-29-2012) at Cameron Grove AME Zion Church in Broadway.
Survivors include her husband, Rev. Kenneth Brooks; son, Daryl Leake of Lawton, OK; daughters, Kimberly Harris of Pittsboro, Karen Brqaswell of Greensboro, Kendra Powell of Washington, DC; brothers, Leo Leake of Roanoke, VA, Ernest Leake, Billy Joe leake of Chapel Hill, Eugene Leake of Raleigh, Rev. Larry Leade of Monroe; sister, Carol Morgan of Seven Lakes; and three grandchildren.

Lurline McKinney Bennett
Mrs. Lurline McKinney Bennett, 88, of The Village at Brookwood, Burlington, died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at 11:18 p.m. following several years of declining health.
A native of Caswell County, she was the wife of Robert G. Bennett, who survives, and the daughter of William Andrew McKinney and Maude Ellen Boswell McKinney, both deceased. Active civically, she was a registrar for the Board of Elections and a member of the Board of Adjustments at Kure Beach, N.C. She was past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Battle of Alamance Chapter. Mrs. Bennett was former member of the First Baptist Church of Graham, where she had been head of the Women’s Missionary Union at the church, Sunday School teacher, and pianist for children’s activities. She was a member of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, where she was awarded a lifetime membership in the Presbyterian Women.
In addition to her husband of the home, survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Bennett Byrd and husband, Robert, of Burlington; her son, Mr. John A. Bennett of Durham; a sister, Mrs. Florine McKinney Dixon of Burlington; and two grandchildren, Jonathon S. Bennett and Kristine M. Bennett, both of Wilson, NC.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mrs. Marilynn Bennett Brooks and five brothers, Mr. G. T. Burton McKinney, Mr. William Clyde McKinney, Mr. Sylvester O. McKinney, Mr. Howard W. McKinney and Mr. Samuel Floyd McKinney.
The funeral service will be conducted at Graham Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Steve Braswell. Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington on Monday from 6 until 8 p.m., and also in the church parlor from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service Tuesday.

ZELMA ANDERSON LORBACHER
Mrs. Zelma Lorbacher, 95, died Friday (02-24-2012) at The Laurels.
funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday, (02-26-2012) at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Jones and Rev. Jim Cochran officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lorbacher was born to John and Lula Anderson in Durham County. She spent most of her life farming, with her late husband, Ervin Lorbacher. She was also preceded in death by brother, Wesley Anderson, sister, Thelma A. Mendenhall.
Survivors include a son, Johnnie Alvin Lorbacher, Sr. of Angier; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
