J. RAY FIELDS
Mr. James Ray Fields, 61, of Asheboro, died Tuesday, (01-04-2005) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, (01-07-2005) at Flag Springs United Methodist Church with Rev. Billy Jarrett officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Fields was born in Chatham County, was owner and operator of Master Chimney, Furnace and Duct Cleaning Company and an avid bowler.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Susan Fields of the home; daughters, Lise York of Asheboro, Robin Allen of Siler City; son, Billy Fields of Bear Creek; father, Henry Fields of Siler City; brothers, Lynn Fields of Ramseur; sisters, Becky Jones and Brenda McDaniel of Bennett; and nine grandchildren.

ARTIS JUNIOR FRENCH, SR.
Artis Junior French, Sr., 65, ot Pittsboro died Thursday (12-31-04) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, (01-04-2005) at St. Matthews AME Zion Church with Rev. Gloria Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. French was a graduate of Horton High School who served in the U.S. Army. He owned his own logging business, and was a member of St. Matthews Church where he was on the Trustee Board.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae Griffin French; sons, Kenneth A. Griffin, Artis J. French, II, both of Pittsboro, Patrick L. French of Sanford; brothers, Preston Page of Chapel Hill, Wade French of Pittsboro; sisters, Carolyn Watson, Mary Clark, Deborah Louis all of Pittsboro, Johnnie Mae Goldston of Siler City; and eleven grandchildren.
ESSIE IOLA BURGESS WILDER
Ms. Essie Iola Burgess Wilder, 64, of Sanford died Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Laurels of Chatham in Pittsboro.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, (01-08-2005) at Jones Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mike Oldham officiating.
Ms. Wilder was a native of Wake County.
Survivors include a son, James Wilder, Jr. of Sanford; daughters, Faye Guin of Sanford, Lorraine David of Siler City; brothers, Steven M. Burgess of Olive Branch, Ill., David L. Burgess of Corinth; sisters, Martha Catlette of Apex, Dorothy Tucker of Sanford, Rebecca Greer of Byron, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
KENNETH WAYNE POE, SR.
Kenneth Wayne Poe, Sr., 57, of Siler City, died Tuesday, (01-04-2005).
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Survivors include daughters, Kendra P. Oldham of Bear Creek, Kim P. Smith of Jamestown; son, Kenneth W. Poe, Jr. of Siler City; sister, Margie P. Davis of Siler City; brothers, Howard Glenn (Junnie) Poe and Gene G. Poe, both of Siler City; and four grandchildren.

SANDRA JANET RAMSEUR BROWN
Sandra Janet Ramseur Brown, 49, of Pittsboro died Monday (01-03-2005) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, (01-08-2005) with Rev. Lewis Gray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Brown was a native of Chicago, Ill. a former resident of Maiden and employed as a cook.
Survivors include her husband, Clarence J. Brown, Jr. of Charlotte; sons, Clarence J. Brown, III and DaKarai J. Brown, both of Pittsboro; daughters, Tarina Ramseur, DaLila J. Ramseur, both of Charlotte, Pamela C. Ramseur of Baltimore, Md.; sisters, Nettie Taylor of Maiden, Pamila Maddox of Lincolnton; and nine grandchildren.
RALPH FOXX
Ralph Foxx, 75, of Bear Creek died Tuesday (01-04-2005) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, (01-08-2005) at Gees Grove AME Zion Church with Dr. Mattie M. Walden and Elder Cora Lee McIver officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Foxx was a native of Chatham County and was employed by Joan Fabrics. He was formerly employed at Siler City Mills for 33 years.
Survivors include daughters, Shelia Ann Foxx and Glennis Foxx, both of Asheboro, Melanie Banks of Raleigh, Cynthia Cole and Denise Foxx, both of Asheboro; son, Tony Foxx of Rockville, Md.; sisters, Mattie Lee Miller of Bear Creek, Lucille Foxx McQueen of Level Cross; brother, Ray Foxx of Richland, S.C.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
IRENE MOODY MURPHY
Irene Moody Murphy, 73 of Siler City died Friday, (01-07-2005) at Chatham Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday (01-11-2005) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Rev. Darrell Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Rives Chapel Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Murphy was a native of Chatham County, retired from Klopman’s with 30 years of service, and a member of Rives Chapel Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Billy Wayne Murphy of Coleridge, Glenn Ray Murphy of Siler City; brother, Clyde Moody of Burlington; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

FRED RAEFORD ELKINS
Fred R. Elkins, 77 of Bear Creek, died Tuesday, (01-11-2005) at SunBridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday (01-13-2005) at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Elkins was a native of Chatham County, of the Baptist faith and was retired from Collins & Aikman, Siler City Plant.
Survivors include sons, Jackie S. Elkins of Coleridge, Carl Wayne Godwin of the home, George Godwin of High Point; daughter, Faye G. Gaines of Siler City; brothers, Carl Elkins of Broadway, Worth Elkins of Pittsboro; sister, Annabel E. Hudson of Silk Hope; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was scheduled from 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday, (01-12-2005) at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City, other times at the family home.

DR. GLEN LEWIS HUNT
Dr. Glen Lewis Hunt, 65, of 55 Pecan Trail, Siler City, died on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Duke Medical Center.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Christ United Methodist Church, Greensboro.
Dr. Hunt was born in Burton, West Virginia where he graduated from Hundred High School. He was a graduate of West Virginia University where he received his D.D.S. Degree and received his specialty degree in Periodontics from the University of Iowa. Dr. Hunt was a veteran of the Navy where he served as a dentist.
Dr. Hunt was survived by his wife, Betty Jo Hunt of Siler City; daughters, Allison Pickard of Apex, Merikay Tillman of Greensboro; son, Geoff Hunt of Greensboro; sister, Jane Duncan of Abilene, Tx; five grandchildren, Melinda Pulido, Harrison Tillman, Ema Freda Tillman, Ashley Pickard and Owen Pickard. Dr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents, Garold and Freda Hunt; one brother, George Richard Hunt and one sister Jane Duncan.
The family will receive friends after the Celebration of Life Service Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Christ United Methodist Church.

ATHALENE DELPHA RIVES PALMER
Athalene Delpha Rives Palmer, 83, of 1515 Pittsboro-Goldston Road, Pittsboro died Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at her home.
Funeral services are being held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 13, 2005 at Meroney United Methodist Church, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Palmer was a native of Chatham County and a member of Meroney United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husbands, H.B. Glosson, Jr., W. Gordon Burns and O.D. Palmer, II.
Survivors include daughter, Renald Glosson Clark, of Pittsboro; special nephew, Errol D. Roper of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Vonda Caldwell of NC, "Cissy" Holder of AZ, Roderick W. Parker of NC; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to service, Thursday, January 13, 2005 at the church.

WILLIAM JACKSON "JACK" DAVIS
William Jackson "Jack" Davis, 84, of Siler City died Monday, January 10, 2005 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Loves Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Helms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Davis was a native of Chatham County, retired from C&A and had worked for Siler City Mills. He was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church, the Clyde Dorsett #3 Sunday school class and an Usher. He served as secretary and treasurer for many years to the Brotherhood at Loves Creek. He was a WW II Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Malda Andrew Davis of Siler City; sons, Ronnie Davis and wife, Pam of Cameron, Kenny Davis and wife, Sherri of Siler City; grandson, Keith Davis of Sanford; step-grandsons, Tracy Gautier and Danny Gautier, both of Sanford; brothers, Atlas Davis and Clyde Davis, both of Siler City; sisters, Maxine D. Langley of Staley and Dot D. McPherson of Siler City.

ROBERT ANDREW LOY
Robert Andrew Loy, 52, died on Thursday, January 6, 2005 at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Siler City after several years of failing health.
He was born in Alamance County, son of the late Harmon Lee Loy and Lila Gentry Loy. He went to Williams High School and was a retired auto mechanic. Robert was a member of Harvest Baptist Church and he enjoyed working with children's ministries, especially Vacation Bible School.
He is survived by his son, John Loy of Chapel Hill; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Amy Loy of Asheville, and David and Patricia Loy of Gibsonville.
The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Lamberth officiating. Interment followed at Alamance Memorial Park.

RICHARD H. SAILEY
Richard Hackney Sailey, 58, died Monday, January 3, 2005 at home. A native of Charlotte, he was a Hampton Roads resident for more than 20 years, spending most of his time in Virginia Beach and Newport News. Richard was a former member of Thalia Lynn Baptist Church. He was a member of the Society for the Preservation of the 26th North Carolina Troops and the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond. Richard was a drum major for field maneuvers of the 26th Registered North Carolina Troops, Reactivated, was a charter member and historian for the Col. J.R. Lane Society, and an avid genealogist and historian.
Preceded in death by his father, Raymond John Sailey, Sr. and brother, Raymond John Sailey, Jr.; he is survived by his mother, Jane H. Sailey of Virginia Beach, VA.; nephew, Raymond John Sailey, III and his children, Devlin Ray Sailey and Ava Christine Sailey, all of Melfa, VA; cousins, Dennis, Diane, Jeb and Denise Brooks of Siler City, Dan Hackney of Orlando, FL, Mr. & Mrs. Tim Hackney of Weddington, Mr. & Mrs. Hal Owens of Matthews Co., VA, Mr. & Mrs. Bill Hackney of Marietta, and Rachel Whitehead of Siler City; special friends, John Blelloch, Jim Meyers, Pat Okrasinski, and Dale Clarke.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 15, 2005 at the Weymouth Funeral Home Chapel in Newport News, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Florence Jones Rowan, 72, of Siler City died Wednesday, (01-05-2005) at her home.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, (01-09-2005) at Powhatan Community Cemetery in Pawhatan, Va. with Ken Filiben officiating.
Mrs. Rowan was a native of Cook County, OK., a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include sons, Roy V. Rowan and Richard B. Rowan, both of Richmond, Va., David R. Rowan of Powhatan, Va., Gary Michael Rowan of Bonlee, Timothy W. Rowan of High Point; daughter; Katherine V. Gordon of Emporia, Va.; brothers, Alvin Jones of Amarillo, Tx., sisters, Dorothy Riddle of Lawton, OK, Wanda Bartlett of Cyril, OK.; fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
