GEORGE MATTHEW MASHBURN

George Matthew Mashburn, 79, of Carbonton died Friday, (04-15-2005) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

Funeral services were held Monday, (04-18-2005) at 2 pm at Carbonton United Methodist Church with Rev. Frank Lloyd officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mashburn was a native of Montgomery County, a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Seven Seas, VFW, and Carbonton United Methodist Church. He worked for Coca-Cola for 35 years as a truck driver and floor manager.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Joyce Mashburn of Carbonton; daughters, Hope M. Lockamy , Janet M. Holt, both of Sanford, Sue M. Griffith of Goldston; son, Tony Mashburn of Carbonton; sisters, Ruth Parnell of Greensboro, Polly Lewis of High Point, Shirley Smith of Eastover, S.C., Jean Beal of Siler City; brothers, David Mashburn of High Falls, Joseph Mashburn of Smithfield, VA; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Jamie Lockamy Smith Memorial Park Fund, c/o Carbonton United Methodist Church, 5442 Carbonton Road, Sanford, NC 27330.

ALICE J. SIMMONS

Alice J. Simmons, 88, of 5776 Sam Leonard Road, Bennett died Monday, (04-18-2005) at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, (04-20-2005) at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Austin officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Randolph County, retired from Burlington Industries, and a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.

Survivors include son Jerry and Simmons of Asheboro; daughters, Johnsie Hahn of Greensboro, Emily Brown of Bear Creek; brothers, Eli Jones of Bennett, Henry Jones of Asheboro; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. .

CLEO LORRAINE BENINGHOVE

Cleo Lorraine Beninghove, age 66, passed away at her home in Murfreesboro, TN on Wednesday, April 13, 2005.

Services were held in the Chapel at Crawford Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 2930 Murfreesboro Pike, Antioch, TN (615-399-1115) at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005.

Mrs. Beninghove was a former resident of Pittsboro. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas H. Beninghove; brothers, Edgar (Bud), Joseph, Lawrence; sisters, Pauline, Ann and Leona.

Survivors include a son, Douglas R. (Kathy) Vanatta, LaVergne, TN; daughters, Ede (Tony) Silva, New Kent, VA, Dell Kasen, North Miami, FL; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas; sisters Kaye, Nancy and Margaret; and nieces and nephews.

JOHN JOSEPH ROACH

John Joseph Roach, 33, of Bear Creek died Tuesday (04-05-2005).

Funeral mass was held at 11 am, Saturday (04-09-2005) at St. Julia Catholic Parrish, Siler City, with Father Michael Lorentsen officiating.

Mr. Roach was a native of Gloucester County, N.J., a graduate of Deptford High School, Deptford, N.J., a Marine veteran of Desert Storm and a 2002 graduate of High Point Police Academy. He was a deputy with Alamance County Sheriff’s Department, a meat cutter for Shop Rite and worked in the Dairy Department at WalMart in Siler City.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Cuthbert Roach and son, Hunter Matthew Tanyer Roach, both of the home; parents, Bob and Dottie Roach of Siler City; brothers, Robert James Roach, Williamstown, N.J., James Mitchell Roach, Austin, Texas; sister, Christina “Tina” Roach of Siler City; and maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Hough of Siler City.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

LUCILLE S. SINGLETARY WILLIGMAN

Lucille S. Singletary Willigman, 73 of Bear Creek died Tuesday, (04-05-2005) at her home.

Graveside services were held at 11 am Saturday, (04-09-2005) at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.

She was a native of Lixington County of West Columbia, S.C. and worked for Convalescent Nursing Home until her health failed.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Glen Willigman; daughters, Donna Patterson, Carolyn Batchelor; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials made be made to the Chatham County Council on Aging or UNC Hospice.

EDWARD RANDY MILLS

Edward Randy Mills, 37 of Pittsboro died Sunday, (04-03-2005).

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Sunday, (04-10-2005) at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church and burial followed in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his parents, Otis Johnson and Alta Belle Mills.

VIRGIL PERRY BURROWS

Virgil Perry Burrows, 66, of Randleman died Friday, (04-08-2005) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral services were held Monday, (04-11-04) at 2 pm at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Asheboro with Rev. Terry Kersey officiating. Burial followed in Randolph Park.

Mr. Burrows was a native of Asheboro where he attended Asheboro High School. He was formerly employed with Pomona Pipe in Greensboro and retired as a truck driver with Cone Mills.

Survivors include sons, Dale Edward Burrows, Tony Burrows, both of Randleman; daughters, Sherry Grubb, Debbie Presnell, both of Asheboro; sister, Elaine Cox of Asheboro; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Randolph Unit, PO Box 515, Asheboro NC 27204 or Victory Junction Gang, 4500 Adams Way, Randleman, NC 27317.

PAUL HOWARD SMITH

Paul Howard Smith, 59, of St. Petersburg died Thursday, (04-07-2005) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital in South Pasadena.

Born in Siler City, he was the desk clerk at MLF Towers in St. Petersburg.

Survivors include his mother, Etta Hedrick of Siler City; brother, Harold Smith of St. Petersburg; and one sister, Rachel Holt of Siler City.

There are no services being held at this time.

BETTYE BROOKS BEEKER

Betty Brooks Beeker, 80, of Victoria Court, Greenville died Friday, April 8, 2005 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 10, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the Mausoleum in Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro.

Mrs. Beeker was born in Siler City on January 7, 1925 to the late Ava Edwards Brooks and Robert Alston Brooks. Mrs. Beeker attended Pheiffer College. She worked in government with the IRS and the Greensboro Housing Authority for many years. She attended Peace Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Beeker was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Oscar Beeker and two brothers, Clyde Brooks and Ernest Brooks.

She is survived by her sons, David C. Beeker and wife, Debbie of Gastonia, Robert T. Beeker and wife, Frankie of Greenville; daughter, Jan B. Brown and husband, John of Walnut Cove; seven grandchildren, Suzanne B. Perdue, Jennifer B. Trauberman, Robbie Beeker, Amanda Beeker, Timothy Lemons, Adam Brown and Andrew Brown; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Lois Burkhalter of Columbia, S.C.

GARY LANE JOHNSON

Gary Lane Johnson, 56, of 155 Dave McCracken Road, Siler City died Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his home.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hickory Mountain Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. J.R. Bouldin, Rev. Steve Moore, and Rev. Rodney Hellard officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was a native of Chatham County and a member of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church. He was self-employed in the landscaping business. He was preceded in death by a grandson Hayden Bradley Clews.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Ferrell Johnson of Siler City; sons, Shannon Johnson and wife, Michele of Bear Creek, Dean Johnson and fiancee, Penny Cody of Siler City, Derek Johnson and fiancee, Crystal Rayle of Pleasant Garden; daughters, Michelle Mace and husband, Scott of Siler City, Maura Blalock and fiancee, Jerry Clews of Framingham, MA; brothers, Don Johnson of Bear Creek, Hugh Johnson of Siler City, Billy Howell of Graham, Bruce Johnson of Tampa, FL, Warren Johnson of Greensboro; sisters, Doris Ellington, Siler City, Linda Sipe, Bear Creek, Kathryn Frazier of Liberty; grandchildren, Autumn, Holden, Christopher, Kimberly, Pandora Layne, Anna and Daniel.

JACKSON TODD DIXON

Master Jackson Todd Dixon, infant son of Charity Hope and Jack Dixon, Jr. died Sunday, (04-10-2005) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

A private, graveside service will be conducted by Rev. Steve Moore, at Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family at their home at 709 Buckner Clark Road, Pittsboro.

BILLY JOE JOHNSON

Billy Joe Johnson, 47, died Sunday, (04-10-2005) at his home in Hillsborough.

Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Johnson of the home; a daughter, Allison Perkins; one granddaughter; mother, Cora Lee Johnson; brother, Thomas Johnson; and a sister, Ann Groves.

VERA FIELDS HARDEN ELLINGTON

Vera Fields Harden Ellington, 96, of Siler City died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at SunBridge Care Facilities.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2005 at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Scott Faw officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Cemetery in Siler City.

Mrs. Ellington was a lifetime resident of Siler City, a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher, choir member and member of Vera Ellington Circle. She was also a member of the Peacock Circle at First Baptist Church and Siler City O.E.S. #9. She was a former owner/operator of Fields Service Station and was retired from the Siler City Police Department as the first woman in that department. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrison Ellington, brothers, Norton Fields, Roy Fields, Graham Fields and sisters, Mrs. Inez F. Clemmons, Mrs. Nellie F. Allred, Mrs. Lonnie F. Capps Mrs. Clyde F. Dickerson, Mrs. Berta F. Councilman, and Ms. Rena Fields.

Survivors include several nieces, nephews and beloved friends, Barbara and Charles Hicks of Siler City.
