KENNETH DELANO DUNLAP
Kenneth Delano Dunlap, 63 of Olivia died Tuesday (06-14-2005) at his home.
Funeral services were held at Lee Memory Gardens Masoleum Chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday, (06-17-2005) with Rev. Eugene Powers officiating.
Mr. Dunlap was a native of Moore and a machinist.
Survivors include his wife, Mae Elizabeth Dunlap; sons, Donnie Dunlap, Kevin Dunlap, both of Broadway, Ronnie Dunlap of Moncure; step-sons, Royce Young of Asheboro, Mitchell Young of Hoffman; step-daughters, Robin Thompson of Laurinburg, Dawn Morton of Anderson, S.C.; mother, Esther Dunlap of Olivia; brother, James Dunlap of Olivia; sisters, Sarah Hussey of Robbins, Rachel Moore of Seagrove, Dorothy Wright of Asheboro, Shelby Fallin of Pinnacle; and four grandchildren.

ERITH LEROY HOPP
Erith Leroy Hopp, 87 of Pittsboro passed away Monday, June 20, 2005 at his home
Born March 31, 1918 at New Boston, Iowa, he was the son of Frank Avris and Lessia Smith Hopp.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Kathryn McMurren Hopp of Pittsboro; one son, James Richard and his wife, Kathleen Ernst-Hopp; one daughter, Judith Ann Hopp-Gangle of Sitka, Alaska; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one step-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and his son-in-law, Larry Gangle.
Mr. Hopp was a graduate of Iowa State University with honors, a veteran of World War II serving as a Captain in the Army in the European Theater, for which he received the Bronze Star. Erith was a 35-year employee of Owens-Illinois, a member of the Society of American Foresters for 57 years and the Texas Forestry Association for 35 years.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2005 at the Charleston Cemetery near Charleston, Iowa with Rev. Richard Bentzinger officiating.

LEOLA KAYE McNEILL
Leola Kaye McNeill, 47, passed away peacefully with her mother by her side on Thursday, June 16, 2005 after a long illness.
Kaye, a loving member of the community, grew up in Pittsboro, the daughter of Alexander and Viola McNeill. Always greeting frineds and stranger with hugw, kisses and a bright smile, Kaye was a lifelong member of the Pittsboro Baptist church. She worked for 23 years at Chatham Trades and was recognized with a special ceremony in 2003 honoring her years of dedicated service.
Kaye lived happily in Siler City as part of a group home for a number of years, where she enjoyed weekly dance outings, trips to the beach, and bowling. She also participated in the Special Olympics for several years.
Kaye leaves behind a family and friends that will fondly remember her warm smile and enduring love. A special thanks to the staff at the Laurels and Hospice for their assistance in caring for Kaye, along with the friends that have continually shown their support over the years.
The funeral service was conducted by Pastor Tripp Harmon and Pastor Ray Gooch at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Pittsboro Baptist Church, with interment to follow at 5 p.m. at Cross Hill Cemetery in Carthage.
Memorial gifts may be made to Chatham Trades, the Chatham County Group Homes and UNC Hospice.
PAULINE "POLLY" LEMONS McLAURIN
Pauline "Polly" Lemons McLaurin, 86 of 3500 Silk Hope Road, Siler City died Thursday, June 16, 2005 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2005 at Calvary Faith Baptist Church, Siler City. Burial followed at Rives Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. McLaurin was a native of Chatham County and a homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Faith Baptist Church, and was in the Adult Class. Polly was a volunteer at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation for 20 years. She was preceded in death by parents, Mack and Lillie Dowdy Lemons, sisters, Mary Bryant, Lela Hanner, Ella Mae Clark and brothers, Lonnie O. Lemons and Garland Lemons.
Survivors include her husband, Howard C. McLaurin, Sr.; sons, Clinton McLaurin and wife Shelby, Manley McLaurin and wife Betty, Jeff McLaurin and wife Tammy; daughter, Sheila M. McDowell and husband Terry, all of Siler City; sister, Eva L. Poe of Carthage; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

WILLIE PHILLIPS SEAWELL
Willie Phillips Seawell, 98, of 1907 North Centennial Street, High Point, formerly of White Oak Drive, Siler City died Friday, June 17, 2005 at High Point Regional Hospital in High Point.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2005 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City with Rev. Johnny Vernon and Rev. Chris Vernon officiating. Burial followed in Loves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Siler City.
Mrs. Seawell was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Church. She taught the Ladies Bible Class for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.A. Seawell.
Survivors include daughters, Mary Florence Gamble, of the home, Lois S. Vernon and husband, Leroy of High Point, Dottie S. Gaines and husband Bill of Siler City; eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

IRENE MARLEY SHARPE
Irene Marley Sharpe, 93, died Saturday, June 18, 2005 at Convalescent Center of Lee County, Sanford.
She was born on June 10, 1912 in Staley to the late Tom Marley and Lillie Ausley Marley. She was a graduate of Staley High School and Jones Business College of High Point.
Mrs. Sharpe was the oldest living member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carson Sharpe and her sisters, Clara Marley, Mae M. Fitts, Flora M. Smith; brothers, Clarence Marley and Frank Marley.
She is survived by nephews and a niece, Earl Fitts and wife Jenny, Bill Fitts and wife Faye, Pearl Fitts, all of Siler City, Frances Fitts Rhodes and husband Larry of Gastonia; and Mary Fitts, widow of nephew Russell Fitts of Shelby.
Graveside service was held on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church with her pastor, Rev. Scott Faw officiating.

LESTER C. OAKES
Lester C. Oakes, 91, of Elgin, Il., died Friday, June 3, 2005 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 10, 1914, the son of the late Lester T. and Cora Bell (Sampson) Oakes in Noroton, Ct.
On August 17, 1940 in Wallingford, Ct., he married Ruth S. Sawtell.
Lester received his Bachelor of Education degree from the Teacher's College of Connecticut; a Master of Arts degree from New York University; a Professional Diploma in Geography from Teacher's College of Columbia University; a Master of Science degree from Union College, where he had received three National Science Foundation fellowships to study.
His first teaching position was at Laurel College in Meriden, Ct. He then taught at Meriden High School 1939-1946 and Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ct. from 1946-1961.
From 1961 through his retirement in 1980, Mr. Oakes was a Geography Professor and Golf team coach at Clarion State College in Clarion, PA.
Mr. Oakes retired to Fearrington Village, Chapel Hill, moved to St. Barnabas, Gibsonia, PA in 2001, and then to Elgin in 2004.
Lester is survived by his wife of 64 years; three children: Judy Canevari Nocera of North Kingstown, RI, Nanci Shirrell of Northfield, IL, James (Kathy) Oakes of Shippenville, PA; three granddaughters, Amy Long of Taunton, MA, Jill Emerick of Cazenovia, NY, Emily Kaplowitz of Elgin, IL. and three great-grandchildren, Katie Long, Jackson Kaplowitz and Graham Kaplowitz.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St., West Dundee, Il., 60118 on Saturday, June 11, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Bob Stewart, celebrant.

REV. J. EARLE REEVES
Rev. J. Earle Reeves, 78, of 104 White Oak Drive, Siler City died Friday, June 3, 2005 at Universal Healthcare in Ramseur.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 6, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Siler City with Rev. Jim Wall, Rev. Dave Pierceall and Rev. Harvey Criminger officiating. Burial followed at 3 p.m. in Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte.
Mr. Reeves was a native of Heath Springs, S.C., and a member of The First Baptist Church of Siler City, where he was an Organist and Choir Director for over 24 years and was in the ministry for over 56 years. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor or Arts Degree, a Masters of Sacred Music Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained into the ministry in 1980 and received the Minister of Music Emeritus from the First Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Oscar and Mary Gertrude Criminger Reeves; brothers, William, Lewis, Hazel, Fletcher, Stanley, Clayton, Wilson Reeves; sisters, Annie Bell Reeves, Gladys Robinson and Connie Holden.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Perry Reeves of Siler City; sons, David Mark Reeves and wife Paula, Todd Brandon Reeves, all of Siler City; grandson, Caleb Reeves; and sister Beatrice Threatt of Lancaster, SC.

LOUISE FIELDS MOON
Louise Fields Moon, 70, 1323 J. Cook Road, Goldston died Sunday, June 5, 2005.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Faith Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Bobby Shutt, Rev. Harold Fletcher, Rev. Bob Gelsthorpe, and Rev. Don Daniel officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, Goldston.
Mrs. Moon was a native of Chatham County, a member of Faith Baptist Church and retired from Townsend, Inc.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Warren Fields, Joe Moon, son, Tommy Fields; sister, Beulah Gwyn; and brother, James Calicutt.
Survivors include daughter, Becky Gunter and husband, Wayne of Goldston; sons, Buddy Fields and wife Angie, Mike Fields and wife Cheryl, both of Goldston; step-son, Joe Moon of Lemon Springs; foster daughter, Carol Childress of Lemon Springs; sisters, Lou Carter of Greensboro, Emma Jean Burke of Bear Creek; brothers, Lester Calicutt of Pittsboro, Frank Crutchfield of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren, Chris Gunter, Dawn Davis, Amber Fields, Terrie Fields, Mickey Fields; great-grand-children, Michael Davis, Andrew Davis; step-great-grandchildren, Crystal Davis, Caitlin Davis, Madison Davis; and special sister-in-laws, Hazel Calicutt and Leola Moon.

SUSAN REBECCA RHODES EDWARDS
Susan Rebecca Rhodes Edwards, 65, of Moneta, Virginia passed away Friday, June 3, 2005 at her home after an extended illness
Born December 2, 1939 in Windsor, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Revah Minton Rhodes. She is survived by her husband of forty-four years, Phil S. Edwards.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Camille Hicks and her husband, Randy of Siler City, Gaye Peele of Chatham County; son, Charles Edwards and his wife, Dianne of Siler City; granddaughter, Rebecca Claire Austin of Siler City; brothers, Dr. Donald G. Rhodes of Melbourne, FL and Lowell M. Rhodes of Washington, NC.
